4K 60 HDR on Shield Pro? - Nvidia Shield TV & Shield TV Pro (2019) Questions

I just switched to Shield TV Pro from Apple TV4k and I can't set resolution to 4K 60 HDR
I have up to 30 frames option but then UI is not smooth
Based on Nvidia website, the box supports 4k 60fps HDR but whats the problem ?

Maybe your Hdmi-cable is not compatible?

then why same cable works with apple tv 4k?

[Q] 4K output

I've asked Mad Catz but not had a reply. I'm looking for some info before I buy.
The MOJO is meant to be a 4K console, however I'm struggling to find any more info about this, does it do actual 4K or does it do like most cheap Android TV hardware and downscale 4K to 1080P internally before upscaling at 4k?
Can it play 4k HEVC (h.265) at 60fps? (the UHD standard)
Does it have HDMI 2.0?
cheers for any advice.

Hi,
Sorry, I don't have a 4k tv to tell you.
Why would any device (cheap or expensive) downscale from 4k and upscaling it back to 4k? doesn't sound right to me.
Do you mean just upscale 1080P to 4k?
Does it have HDMI 2.0?
I doubt it, as it come out only a month before the mojo's launch date.
But it does support 4k
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI
I know it supports 4k, but that doesn't mean anything, a lot of devices do but all they mean is that they output at 4k (upscale), I need to know if it renders a 4k video at 4k and output it at 4k, if all the mojo can do is output 4k then it plays a 4k video at 1080p as that's all it can handle (downscaling it) then output at 4k, there just seems to be no info and their web page isn't clear at all.

The page is pretty detailed with tech, It's native support at [email protected] fps, 100% no doubt for me.

They even give visual proof:

"We did some 4K tests at UCSD’s Qualcomm Institute, using their LG 84” 84LM9600.

Above, QI’s Todd Margolis shows Blender’s 4K CGI Demo Video Tears of Steel playing on M.O.J.O. Download it yourself from here and watch it in 4K. It’s free!
We used the MX Player app which supported .mov, .mp4 and more 4K file types. In our tests, we noticed some dropped frames only when bit-rates got higher than about 70Mbits/s."
You can use the controller as a remote, and it doesn't look fake to me, maybe his grin, lol.
I Imagine if a 1080p was upscaled to 4k it wouldn't look as clear as it does in that image (I can't see any pixelation, can you?) .
I doubt MadCatz would go to the trouble of testing it and make a page like that if it was just upscaled from 1080p.
Try asking on amazon, good luck
Edit, or ask Todd yourself: http://toddmargolis.net/about.php
His twitter, etc are at the bottom.
It does not have hdmi 2.0 so you will be limited to 30 fps.

Netflix 4K output from Note 4 via MHL 3.0 2160p @ 30Hz

Will it happen?
The 4K output works great with the samsung MHL 3.0 adapter. Truly impressed reviewing some of the 4K I've recorded with it at native res.
Which begs the question... Will Netflix android be updated to do 1440p & 2160p? If so the Note 4 could be a great little Netflix 4K streamer in a pinch!

There are only two shows (in Canada at least) that are in 4K on netflix... No real point.

Nvidia shield tv pro upscaling question

Hello there.
So I have a Nvidia shield tv pro which does a great job upscaling HD content to 4k. I currently use a 4k oled television so it works hand in hand.
This weekend I am upgrading to the 2019 model of Samsung QLED 8k television series.
So my question is. How will shield decide upscaling, will both the TV and shield work against each other, which device will have priority in upscaling. Would turning off upscaling on the shield make it better?
Also would things be clearer or better straight from the TV apps due to shield being made for 4k? Currently buying a 8k HDMI cable to put into the shield from the TV too if that helps.
Hopefully I can get some insight.
The Nvidia shield tv only supports HDMI 2.0b which supports 4k at 60hz and either doesn't support 8k or only supports it at 30hz. I doubt the shield supports 8k output atall. I would say to leave nvidias scaling on and see how it does it will upscale to a maximum of 4k on its own then the tv will do the rest.
Always let the TV do the upscaling. The processor and algorithms will be better than the Shield's as the manufacturer knows what to do with the pixels based on its design. All 8K TVs know how to upscale from 4K because there isn't any 8K content.

whats your thoughts on ai upscaling?

I buy 4k + 1080p + digital movies, rip the 1080p and 4k hdr content at its highest quality sometimets upto 70GB size for 4k hdr pure mkv files, disc on my hdd and stream through plex on shield tv pro 2019.
is ai scaling pointless if the files are pure mkv 4k and 1080p and direct play from pc to shield?
whats there to upscale?
1080p to 4k scaling?
I did demo test on avatar 1080p, it upscales it most definitely, wow.
4k hdr doesn't get upscaled says nothing to upscale. ofc. unless 8k streaming device.
makes me wonder if nvidia has more in the works since 2019 for a new device even better n more powerful.

AI upscaling supported apps on nvidia shield tv pro?

Does AI upscaling works for videos played in KODI app?
What are the apps in nvidia shield tv pro which support AI upscaling?

Not 100% sure but I'd guess probably any app that outputs 720p 30fps or 1080p 30fps while connected to a higher resolution screen.
Plex works, and i also assume kodi does too
