It's a new feature they claimed to clean the speaker...

Hi,
I want to buy this phone but I heard some people being annoyed by the fact that the vibration intensity is too low and when the volume is over the mid level the vibration is too loud and the phone seems like a big noisy speaker.
What's your feedback about that?
Thanks

I bought the phone on day one and I can confirm all you wrote: vibration intensity is weak and volume over the mid level make the back of the phone to pulse like a bass speaker.
I'm interested in other opinions about that two "problems" before take a decision and ask for a refund.
Except for all (and MIUI, I don't like it too much) is a pretty good phone (I paid mine 169€).

Hi!
Yes it's true, vibration is a bit weak and the back cover vibrate quite a lot when volume is loud.
For me those two "problems" are not problems when compare with all features and price but, for some people, they may be annoying.
Regards

i think there is some sort of bassspeaker (subwoofer) inside the phone leting it vibrate at the back. whene i place my ear at the back cover i can hear alot of base.
all in all, the sound is very good with the stereo system. the earpeace sounds very loud and clear like. (its a real speaker, not like other xiaomis only treble)

Yes guys, i think that the vibrations on the back isnt an issue, is normal in a phone with glass/plastica back. It helps with bass.

Hi, I recorded the vibration in this video. For me it's not annoying but it feels strange. https://youtu.be/vhPxVEXVfnQ?t=56

I really like the dual speakers and overall quality. Although yes you can "feel it roar"
Doesn't even need to be very loud.
This video per example
is very low and you can feel the phone vibrate alot
I think it's the z-axis vibration thingy that they advertise

The vibration is caused by the top speaker, turn that off vibration stops.
Go to setting, accessibility, mono speaker on and then slide the slider far right.

Can anyone else please try and confirm this. I was intending to buy this, but was hesitant cz of this issue of vibration. Also the phone weight.

Yes...switching to Mono and firing down speaker will stop the vibration...if you wanna use as regular ones than stereo mode, tested on my Device

I actually like the vibration, I don't find the issue with it. Speakers quality is amazing with nice bass + balanced mids & treble. There is almost no distortion when listening to max sound levels. It's even better than speakers from my past phone ZTE Axon 7.
I find that the best sound level for playing music is at 2 levels down from max volume as it has less distortion and it is still loud and clear. That's 87% of max volume.

But then how will we hear others when we're in a call?

I still have HTC m8 and it also have loud speakers and they also vibrating all the phone on highest loudness. For me its naturally normal. Speakers are made for higher power thats why are better heared, more power consuming due to more power, and vibrating all phone. I love it

Modding Call Volume

So I think everyone knows how awesome these speakers are with how loud they can get. Though you would think that would carry over to the in call volume when NOT on speaker mode. In some outdoor situations its really frustrating being barely able to hear someone especially since I know its a software limit. I understand that mixer_paths.xml under system/etc/ holds all the min and max's for volume though I can't figure out which controls the earpiece while in a call. Any ideas?
I would also like to know this, as well as if its possible go use both speakers in speaker instead of just the bottom one. Hope we can get some feedback.

Bottom Firing Speaker

So I was thinking about all these people complaining and whining about the pixel not having a front firing speaker or dual front speakers for stereo and I got to thinking how would that sound while the phone is inside the DayDream VR with the speakers facing your eyes? Perhaps the bottom firing is better after all?
I for one hold, and semi cup the top/bottom while holding the phone horizontally watching video, so the sound reflects back at me anyways. Coming from an LG v10 I am used to this. Compared both phones watching the same music video on youtube at best buy and they were pretty much equal in volume..
What ya think?
Agreed..... You'd have those speakers firing right into your eyes. Google is really pushing Daydream so I'm sure that played a roll.
In all honesty compared to my 6P the only time I miss the stereo speakers is when the phone is in landscape. I much prefer the sound signature of the Pixel in comparison for everything else but don't like the sound coming out of one side in landscape.
It's the best single speaker I've had on a device. Loud and clear sound. With the phone face down in my pocket I can actually hear my notifications because of the speaker placement.

This is true as well. Can't tell you how many important emails I replied to late because in a noisy warehouse environment I did not hear the notification because the speakers were pressed into my leg.
I'm guessing most people will use headphones when using the headset, otherwise you won't be able to get a sense of location from the sound. I doubt VR was part of the decision.

Ditto, I have a really loud DING type notification sound just because of this same reason. When I have the phone out, people freak out literally.. Yelling at me, wtf why don't you change that tone or put it on vibrate.. I'm like it's also set to vibrate, but just like I miss the tones, in a loud environment (outside), while walking I can not really differentiate the vibration on my leg..
The LG G4 has the speaker on the back. Nice looking phone but you can't hear much.

Anyone else think earpiece is too quiet?

Maybe my nexus 6 was just that good but it feels like the v20's earpiece speaker isnt very clear or loud....I can live with lower quality but the sound level is kind of low (hard to hear people in noisy places)

Yeah its low (with my over the ear cans), went all in on a descent amp that can usb of my pc and/or directly off my phone. Like my cans to rattle sometimes. With my IEMs though it gets loud after 50-60. Id make sure you have enabled Hi-Fi sound on the phone first and found this app to be very useful in adding some punch and volume to my tracks. ----> Equalizer (by Smart Android Apps)

Lol!! Oh. No not at all, that's way better than the last phone I had the lgg3.

Check your phone call settings. There may be an option in there that was enabled by accident.
And/or tell your correspondence to speak up. Lol.
yeah idk, my s7 sounded like crap for phone calls. could never understand the person on the other line. but my V20 sounds amazing. clear, loud etc. kills the s7

I'm experiencing the same. Extremely clear, no issues whatsoever.
Speaking of the Nexus 6. That phone was hands down the best Android phone ever made. If they re-released it with a fingerprint sensor, I would buy it again. Best speakers and sound of any phone. It could have used a better camera, but other than that, 9 out of 10.
As for the speaker sound in the V20. I think it could be a a bit louder. Clarity isn't an issue for me. But it's def not very loud.
On the T-Mobile variant this thing is loud and clear. If I turn it all the way up I can hold it away from my ear in front of me and still hear the other person clear enough to understand them. definitely no issues so far involving that

What settings are you talking about?
And people calling me didnt magically decide to speak quietly just because I bought a new phone.

Yes loudness is the issue. Its too quiet if you are anywhere with noise like the grocery store.
Nexus 6 was a good phone but had issues (guess all phones do). The camera was pretty bad and buggy at times. Speakers were great but if you had lower battery they would automatically decrease the volume like 50% (even at max volume) that was insanely annoying. And lastly it throttled speed pretty badly when battery got low. Oh and it was pretty big, alittle smaller screen with the v20 but much smaller in the hand.

Pull up your phone app. Make sure it's on the dial menu and hit the 3 vertical dots in the upper right hand corner. Go to call settings. The last option should be one that reads "more" . Peruse that and see what may help. Good luck.

Only thing I can think of would be to try turning on hearing aid compatibility or maybe messing with the call clarity and noise suppression options and see if that affects anything for ya.
I have both voice clarity and noise suppression turned on and have no problems with low volume at all. I remember reading somewhere on a different phone e that the hearing aid option made it noticeably louder on that specific phone so you could try that and see if it works for this phone.

Am finding the same too, this time i have the voice clarity option enabled, lets see if it makes a difference. I find it soft in a quiet room, no idea how this will work out on the street. Might be forced to get a headset in that case.
Which would be a pity becaue this phone is all about audio. My speakers are perfectly fine. Why does the earpiece have to be so quiet

Volume on this phone is fairly good. My ringtones are loud. I keep below maximum. The vibrating earpiece when on a call is excellent. Out of all past cell phone earpiece speakers, this is the best so far. Very clear with no muddy sound.
Curious when u play music using bottom firing speakers, does the vibrating screen work in conjunction as dual speakers or no. Probably not.
Also during a call and u choose speakerphone, I take it that it's the bottom speaker that activates? If so, is it plenty loud and full?

I find this speaker to be loud and audibly clear for a single speaker. I keep my volume at 13. Setting it to 14-15 and it distorts.
The earpiece sounds better than any cell phone earpiece I've heard. The piezo screen vibration adds a touch of clarity.

Cool. Thanks mate!
The 3.5mm jack work also very well. The dedicated DAC make a great job with his HiFi mode on my headphones. I didn't try the provided earphones.

Unlike my previous phone the Mi 9, the 10 Ultra has proper stereo speakers.
They sound great for a phone. The high end is decently represented. There is bass but nothing crazy. Music just sounds full, perhaps comporable to a cheap small set of Bluetooth speakers.
One thing to note. There is one speaker on the bottom and one on the top (the design is like a small grill of tiny holes). I like this as it adds to the stereo separation in landscape. I can see how it would be better this way for games and videos. It just confused me at first!
I feel like the volume is as good as you can expect. Quality is average, not bad at all but many flagship phones I've heard just sound more clear. I'd give it 8/10 comparing it to the best of the best flagship speakers.
how does it feel holding the device in landscape for games or video viewing since the top speaker is on the edge of the phone as seen in photo below
i feel like my hands will be blocking the audio output from top speaker??

Top speaker seems a little quiet but no worse balanced than any other stereo phone has been.
does your hand block the top speaker in landscape mode? as the top speaker (not talking about the speaker grill) is actually on the frame/edge of the device

The top speaker is in the middle of the frame more or less, so when I'm holding it landscape it is visible over my hands, the bottom corners are on my palms
If you hold it so the bottom speaker is on the left, nothing is covered at all! (because the bottom speaker is off-centre)
It's really can not say good. Speaker sound not “transparent” enough and rough. iPhone 11 pro max sounds way more better than XiaoMi 10 ultra.
I have an issue with Mi 10 ultra.
During the call connecting, or during the call(be it normal voice calls or Video calls in whatsapp/duo), if the speaker gets activated on the phone, a strange noise comes out from the ear piece/ear speaker. This noise is more noticiable when i put the phone near my ear.
Have anyone experienced the issue? what shall i do, please suggest
Is it getting feedback from the mic / top speaker? As you get it closer, the mic will pick up the speaker more as the doing bounces off you being so close. I have not noticed it on mine but I will try to use speaker phone on a call to see.

Hi,
i am not sure about the bouncing thing, but i have not noticed the same in OnePlus 5t or samsung note plus, both on the same network.
Its noticiable more clearly, when you bring it near the ear.
you need not be to be an actual call, just dial a valid number and switch the speaker on , so that you can hear the ring and then bring the phone near your ear.
