People Waiting for verizon nexus one causing slow sales?

So I keep reading how the nexus one is having mediocre sales (about 20,000 a month), and I can't help but think: would this be the case if it were offered on verizon wireless. I currently own a droid eris for verizon and and am patiently waiting to get updated to 2.1, but would pony up 500 bucks to simply jump right into a much better hand set, not that the eris is bad, the nexus one just kicks ass.
so my questions: How many people aren't buying nexus one's simply because their waiting for it on the verizon network?
I thought it was 20,000/week, either way, I think the slow sales have a multitude of factors, being online only is definitely the biggest I think. A lot of people go into stores and look at phones and end up buying one there, without this one on one experience a lot of people that don't really know much about phones will never be exposed to one. T-Mobile being the only carrier is definitely another factor, I think their sales will increase once it hits Verizon and Vodaphone, but probably nothing crazy from Verizon. Once again I think not being in stores will hurt them because none of the sales people in the store are going to tell people they should go online and look at the Nexus One when they have the chance to sell them something like the Droid right there in the store. Also, when a customer see's the Droid, is the average consumer going to notice the differences between the Nexus One and Droid? What's an extra 400mhz to the average joe. Maybe just my opinion, but if Google really want's to move these things to people aside from the technofiles they need them in stores in front of everyday customers. Who knows, maybe they'll gain more traction as more people start to hear about the Nexus and google.com/phone but I still think without putting them in peoples faces at stores they're not gonna throw up the legendary numbers they could with a phone of this quality.
Yeah...maybe if they give the N1 owners some bigger bullets. I mean...I don't mind sharing (I actually do)...but why give everyone 2.1? That gives the N1 owners nothing special. Unless GooG's got something special in store for us.
Plus I think Google didn't advertise the N1 because they just wanted to get their feet wet in the game. We da Guinea Pigs!
Anyway, when Verizon get the N1...they'll do more of those Bad Ass commercials they made for the Droid.
its gotten some pretty bad press during the release. Alot of issues and problems that couldnt be fixed with live help.
I remember the first release week i had about 10 or so calls a day into my tmobile store of very angry n1 owners saying this or that doesnt work.
And even more people comming in and asking if they could look at one or asking why they arent able to upgrade to an n1.
Even as a employee i felt kinda cheesed that i couldn't get the n1 for my normal employee tmobile phone discount.
I think people are waiting for few things.
Either for it to come to stores and for it to have live customer service, or for all the bugs be fixed.
i expect it to sell a lot better when its on more carriers and all the issues have been worked out

It was 20,000/week or 80,000/month. Really not bad & impressive considering how it was marketed. Once the N1 goes global, then I think the numbers will sky rocket!

Buying the EVO

So unless I'm mistaken, the hero came out less than a year ago, which means that anyone who bought a hero doesn't have their yearly upgrade yet. So my question is, how is everyone planning to buy the EVO without paying $500?
I'm fronting the cash. This means I'll be able to use my upgrade for the next sweet phone in another 6-8 months.
Others have multiple phones on family plans and are juggling the phones within their plan to get one.
i dont get upgdrades so im selling the hero for 300. i have a credit card for the rest

my parents are going to help me get mine. right now they are on t-mobile and they plan to come to sprint, open a new account get the upgrade price then i'm going to switch my mom out for my hero. me and my old man are planning on rocking the **** out of some evo's. he has the tp2 on t-mobile i'm bringing him to the dark side...
I have to wait until October ... very sad
I have five phones on my plan. I typically use one of my kids upgrades to get a new phone, then give them my old phone. Time to pass the Hero along.
$449 - $80 for hero trade in meaning $369 and no contract renewal

That's not true. I'm not really sure why, but I and my wife are both eligible for the full upgrade and we bought Heros on the early release day from best buy. I checked online and I called Sprint just to confirm and they assured me we both qualified.
i'll get mine free from friends.
i have 3 lines that get upgrades all at different times. still deciding wether to get the evo or not though. my main line is eligible for upgrade.
I have an everything data plan with six lines. Go figure.

Not to be rude but you will never get $300 for a hero even brand new. Maybe $200 if your lucky and i stress lucky. I got to play with an evo and im going to pass on it. Im already seeing alot of people complaining about the phone and slow downs after you install apps. Plus the fact there is a big issue with software & the shipped sd cards that come with the phone. Alot are talking about the possibility of sprint/htc releasing a fix for it but that could also mean they could patch root for those guys as well. So far they seem to have done a pretty solid job patching root on our hero's with the RUU.

Ive read some of your posts, you sure seem to have gone through alot of phones in less than a year. Must be nice to have money to burn on a phone that will be outdated in 4 months.
Im buying it from radioshack so hm my dad has his phone on the line and has not changed it since 2008 so ill use his DUH!!!
So yea....I've heard on here that the EVO (without contract) is 450-500.....when if fact it is going to sold for $549 without contract. Trying to keep my Hero, and buy the EVO outright.....but only so many things I can sell on ebay, lol.

Are you always this pessimistic? People have different situations, and different views on what's worth what. The Evo will become outdated just as EVERY other handset/PC/Laptop/Macbook/etc.... Your phone must be really outdated if you don't want to spend your money on anything that's not going to be top of the line half a year from its release. As for me, I've been through 4 phones in the last year, and will be getting an EVO. And when the next best thing comes out, I'll probably get that as well. Waste of money? Maybe, but you can't take it with you, and I've got it to spend.
I just came back to Sprint from T-Mobile today... going to dump the Hero I bought (this is my second Hero, and this one lags SOOO much it's hardly usable at all) within my 30-day window and grab the Evo which I ordered already.

just sold it today for $325.
believe me i had mine set up very well. no lag at all and the people wanted the roms on the sd card. their problem now

Anyone going to cancel their pre-order for a dev if they can get one now?

Seems as if quite a few AT&T stores are selling the One earlier.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one/268141-htc-one-available-purchase-store-today.html
Anyone who can't wait any longer considering canceling the dev edition pre-order and picking up an AT&T version? Personally, I can wait another week, but I know there are some impatient people out there
I would if I wasn't T-Mobile (Solavei actually). I'll wait a week to keep my $9/mo unlimited everything plan.
I can wait a week for the unbranded version. Always wanted an unbranded device.
I can wait as well. I mean AT&T version will probably be out before I get the dev edition (just ordered it today), but the way I look at it, I will probably be able to flash ROMs before AT&T ones can. :highfive:
I can wait for the unlocked version. Besides I still LOvE my One X and have that to get me by!

So looks like it's finally official. HTC One coming to Verizon later this summer.

Who is going to make the jump?
I have been on the Incredible for just over 3 years now and ready to make the jump. It has been a great ride but this seems like the perfect time and phone to make the switch.
Anyone else?
I should be getting One (see what I did there?). Hopefully they don't disable HTCdev, which is doubtful they won't based on past devices. That, or S-OFF tricks will still work. And hopefully they'll get a Google edition.
But there's still time for the next Nexus to be announced. So I'll end up getting one of the two.

This is what I have been waiting on... a friend is supposedly going to hand me (yep.. free) his GS3.. which of course I'll root and put AOSP on... then I will purchase the One (off contract of course.. they are going to pry that unlimited data from my cold dead hands) once I see that the Verizon version has been rooted.. unlocked.. and has some good roms going on.
At which point I'll pass the GS3 onto someone who needs it (who has already claimed it.. before I even have it!)
Yea I hope this new version for Verizon gets rooted soon but that still not going to have me hold out at launch. BTW I am in the same boat as you, buying off contract so I can keep unlimited data.
Do you know where I will be able to purchase (when the time comes) the phone from? Just use Amazon or Best Buy? They will sell the phone on it's own right?

You should be able to buy it from anyone outright. Though you won't really get a deal from anyone that way.. so may as well do it from Verizon directly.
HTC One shipping August 22nd. FINALLY.
Going to wait like a week make sure others can unlock and get it rooted and will probably be making the switch.

I think the only other things to consider are the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the LG G2.

And Key Lime Pie (I know its a pipe dream to think it will be announced by end of Sept)...
Would love to know the optimal specs for it before investing in a phone. Especially one that is already 4-6 months old before Verizon even sold it.

Who is to blame for this poor G2 launch on at&t, my experience..

So I go to my nearest local at&t store and when I ask for it they said I think we have it on display, but not in stock. Maybe will get stock later from delivery. I go to my next nearest store, and they have it on display as well. I ask him to get me one and he says they have none in the back. I have a definite contact that would hold one for me at his store but its an hour from me but I was about to take the road trip. As I left the 2nd at&t store, I get in my car and the 2nd at&t store rep calls me on my phone and says I found some in the back they were in my managers office. I go back and purchase it off contract. I dare ask for any available cases, he goes to the back again and says they cant find none but one pink one. I said no thanks, no offense to pink cases.
So with that being said, who's fault is this? I actually think it's LG's fault for not pushing for a bigger launch. They dont seem worried, oh well I got one and I'm liking it. Gonna root it and debloat this poor bloated G2. I just hope the battery life is better than my sgs4, I'm using whatever charge it came with today. It sort of reminds me of my nexus 4, the double tap to turn on/off is a stock feature I thought I would never see.
Anyone else with a similar experience? Maybe companies should not launch on Friday the 13th??

This is why I ordered on AT&T website. I placed the order 9/10 at 11pm and it was in my hands on 9/12. I hate dealing with local AT&T stores, at least in the DC/Metro area.
ordered the friday it came out on 9/6 was in my hands monday morning, have been in contact with the guys on IRC, hope we can get this thing cracked soon. =P
Same here. Premier order was even worse. I actually ended up getting one in store this morning. My premier order is still processing from the 11th. Will refuse it when it comes since I can't cancel according to them even though it hasn't shipped.

Bottom line is At&t employees are bunch of dummies. Kidding. Im sure people are quite smart going in but once theyve been in the cluster F ( that is At&t) they are screwed. At&t tells them what phones to push ( Iphones, S4's HTC's etc) and all the others are just fillers. Ive been into at&t stores before and educated the sales rep about the phones they have on display and in most cases they dont even care. This is your freggin job people!! Hello???!!! I ran into the same thing when I purchased the LG OGP - they were clueless and kept wanting me to take a look at the HTC One! Im sure its partly LG's fault but end of the day (IMO) its not just At&t employees that are clueless, Ive encountered the same thing at TMO and Verizon stores too. Never set foot in a Sprint store so I can comment on them.

I've experienced the same thing from AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon. Almost none of the reps that I've spoken with are knowledgeable on phones. I went to a Verizon store wanting to purchase an HTC Droid DNA and was directed to a Note II. I advised him of the reason I was interested in the DNA. Not interested in the Note for the same reasons.

Well I used to work for At&t and I can tell you that they do not really care which phones you buy (to an extent). They only really make money off of contracts. The problem is that they only educate workers on the more popular phones, so they tend to show you a Samsung so they don't look stupid since they know nothing about LG. The problem is that they are really pushing you to increase your MRC (Monthly Recurring Revenue). So they want things like Mobile Protection Pack and they encourage you to add a line or buy marked up accessories. It doesn't matter which phone you buy. They spend very little time teaching employees about a Snapdragon 800 and lots of time about the 5 key behaviors of sales. I just happen to be a hardcore phone enthusiast so would be able to talk with customers about every phone. So this is the real reason behind another terrible LG launch. Like the G Pro. At&t only cares about phones that will bring in more customers so they can increase sales, like iPhones. plus people who buy iPhones tend to buy more accessories and have multiple cases. And people like us tend to shop online and only buy store accessories when we're desperate and are waiting for our case from Amazon to arrive. So there you have it guys.
I agree.
