How is the screen uniformity on your S5E? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

I have a wifi US S5E a couple weeks now. I like dark mode and use it wherever it's available. But as you know, dark mode doesn't necessarily mean black background but dark gray backgrounds, and one noticed some uniformity problems. So I finally pulled up a gray test pattern and yep it's pretty ugly
Here's the S5E (right) next to my 6 year old original first gen tab S, displaying this video. Brightness is set to around 33% on both.

Like all OLEDs the S isn't perfect, but you can see the S5E is worse, almost like a gradient, grey on one side, black on the other side. Also, while the S is grey like it's supposed to, the 5e has a purple tint to it. The tint is exaggerated somewhat by the camera, but it's there in real life too. I never notice anything amiss with the S display on regular content, but the 5e uniformity definitely sticks out from time to time, especially in the evening.
So I'm wondering, do I have particularly bad uniformity or is this par for the course? Kind of disappointing that my spanky new tablet has in some ways a worse display than one that's ready to croak.

I suffer from poor uniformity too. Maybe not as bad as in your case, but clearly visible. I read that the bigger OLED screen is, the higher probability of suche issue. I was thinking about sending it back to get refund or exchange, but since I bought it abroad, I finally gave up on the idea. And you know what? After few months I almost forgot about it ? It's possible to get used to it

Weird Screen Issue

So here is the basic situation:
My friend and me bought a same i9000 from the same company at almost the same time. It's Telenor-Hungary.
We have been using it for over a year and I discovered an issue with the screens just yesterday.
I'll provide some screenshots:

as you see the only difference in the two screenshots is that I use 182 dpi and he uses 240.
But when we look at the phones with our eyes its not the same.
Mine , the lover dpi one is faded and greenish its blue is not really pure.
we tried to take photos of the difference:
so you can see the left one is more greenish and it's like missing some light blue or something i cant define. The best way to say it his phone has deeper colors.
also we discovered another difference
this is the 240 dpi (right one) with the better colors
and thiis is mine the sh*t greenish colored
you can notice the sim tray and the micro sd tray is different colored.
any idea why my screen is different than his?
By the way we use the same rom/kernel : teamhacksung b14 and devils latest with led2
thank you please just take a loook
Oled screens get worn out after time, especially the blue color is going to wear out fast. It could be that one of you two uses his phone more intense than the other...

Thats true mate!
I use 20 times more than him
This has nothing to do with usage.
It's just a difference in ur hardware. many users here on xda have this problem including me.
My girlfriends phone has so nice and deep colours but my phone just looks yellowish and wasted.
I installed chainfire3D and use nightmode to adjust colours manually which brought a really nice result and I also use voodoo color for adjusting gamma values.
This brought me a whole new display and now it looks like this of my gf. Feel free and try it.
and to your sim tray and sd card problem^^
Your friend has the protection stickers/foils still on and u don't - that's it!
greetz
Thats the same colour the Sim Tray. Thats plastic...

Yes, you can think that's the amoled technology that gives a strange tint until you see different devices.
Then you will notice some screens are quite OK, some are yellow and some are blue (and right out of the box).
I don't know if Samsung had several screen batches (they do that on PC monitors and TV without warning) or if the amoled panel is just not regular at the end of its production process.
Supercurio tried to investigate on some Galaxy S II models, asked people to give their screen identification serial and which problem/tint they noticed. I don't know if he came on a conclusion.
Anyway, for now you have this gamma adjustment tool included in Team hacksung ICS, you'll also have a new "Voodoo screen tuning app" with profiles and advanced options soon (Supercurio announced he will release it after he has sorted out some payment/market issues).
How can u tell me then, why i can see a bright ribbon on white screen where my status bar normally is? 5his is deffinitely a wear symptom...

Yeah, there's no denying screens get old too. I was just explaining this tint problem in particular.

"Yellowish" Tint on screen + Black line

Hello,
Bought my phone last thursday. Noticed just a few days ago that when the screen is really dark (pitch black), and the brightness is high , in a dark room (No lights), I could see a
long black line just slightly away from the Samsung Logo. I am unable to take a picture as the camera wouldn't be able to capture the line. Some googling revealed that it's a common issue with SAMOLED screens. It doesn't appear when the screen is filled with colors / normal operation.
Another thing is that there is a very strong "yellow" tint on my screen. I am not sure if it's just me since I am used to an IPS monitor or my screen is really defective.

Should I ask for a replacement?
I noticed this too when I got my device. But I got used to it really quickly. But looking at the screen now, I really don't think it has a yellowish hue at all anymore. I have had 2 updates on this device. The color calibration has always been on standard. Maybe it got adjusted, or something settled in. I'd like to hear more feedback from people for sure. I've owned my device for 5 weeks now.

I got used to it too but there was this slight "is this like how it's supposed to look like" feeling in me. This is my first AMOLED / SAMOLED device so I am not sure of what to expect.
I had a Galaxy S3 LTE before, which had a perfect color balance (no green/yellow hue, just fine). So I don't think this is ok.
Hopefully ColorControl (from Galaxy Nexus) will be ported to our Note 2, so that WE can fix Samsungs issues...
I did compare my Note 2 with a Galaxy S3. I couldn't believe just how exact the colors were for every brightness setting and every app, being so different when it comes to AMOLED technologies.

Are you currently facing the "yellowish" whites as well?

Screen Bleeding Advice

Hey,
First off, sorry if this thread is a common occurrence on here, but I am very disappointed and sad about what has happened.
Well, today I picked up my Nexus 7 from MicroCenter. First thing I did when I got back was install my screen protector and then put it in it's case. I started using it and was very impressed at the image quality and brightness of the screen, as well as the speed of tablet. I booted up some games and found them to run great and was also impressed. I then went back to the home screen, turned up my brightness to halfway and that is when I was shocked.
(pic taken at HALF brightness in the dark)
(also note that the one on the right side actually shows up as a greenish color, unlike what the pic shows)

What I noticed was a a green shade coming from the right side of the screen and it was bad! So bad to the point that it actually made things discolored (was not dark in house either). I later found out this was light-bleeding and decided to get a pixel test app. What I noticed is that I cannot see this bleeding on any color screen, besides on dark dark grey and black. Nonetheless, it still bothers me quite a bit! On the bright side, I found that it only has one dead pixel, which for a screen of this size isn't too bad.
Now I love this tablet and do not want to get another brand. So my question is, what should I do: Go back to the store and get a replacement or stick with this one? Are they all like this or did I get a bad apple?
Also I heard that tightening the screws on the lcd will work to fix light bleeding issues. Is that true that it will work in this case?
Thanks in advance,
Nate
Well, I am going to sleep on this.
But, I took it apart and adjusted the screw tightness. I actually managed to get rid of some light bleed, but that one side that is green (right side), still exists. And it is really annoying. As a result, I am leaning for exchanging it.
So, I am probably going to exchange it tomorrow. Worst part is that I just installed my new $25 Steinheil screen protector PERFECTLY (no dust at all). Not sure how I'm gonna get it off and re-apply without dust again
Update: Brang it back and exchanged it.
This one still has light bleeding issues in the same spots. Although, this time instead of one big spot of greenish, it's two smaller ones that are lighter colored. This makes it so it is barely noticeable and the best part, is that there is no dead pixels as of yet. As a result, I will will be keeping it.
Won't be able to get a perfect one, since this is just the nature of the beast, with LCDs and especially this tablets design.
Keep returning it until you do, it's not worth spending money on a faulty product. A few people had to return 3-4 Nexus 10's before finding the perfect one, don't settle or you'll wish you had exchanged it later.

I defy anyone to show me a backlit LCD that does not have some bleed when viewing a predominantly black image in the dark. Nature of the beast... you will never get one that is perfect. If it bugs you, go plasma or OLED.

Color convergence issues

Hi all,
I've had my 6p for almost two weeks and tomorrow is my last day to return it. They will not extend buyer's remorse to a replacement unit so before tomorrow I need to decide if the issue I have is specific to my unit (get a replacement) or related to the AMOLED panel used on this phone (cancel).
The issue is that colors seem not to converge correctly, just like old CRT screens would. This is most noticeable on high contrast borders such as black text on light backgrounds, which my brain interprets as embossed text rather than nice flat text. Below is a zoomed in example showing this issue, upper borders are reddish/darker and lower ones are greenish/bright.

Anyone else seeing this? my friend's S5 has a similar thing but way less noticeable and i could probably live with it, whereas my 6p is probably too much. Yes this is my first AMOLED.
Thoughts? thanks!

You are joking? Right?
That image is blown up how much??
400%. Otherwise you wouldn't see it on a forum, but real life you can see it with no need to zoom

Display/Video Issues

Anyone having any issues with the display on theirs? I'm coming from a Note 5 and I feel like the screen on the S7 Edge is worse. I really only notice it in games like Clash of Clans or Boom Beach. Even the quality on the loading screens looks much worse. Not sure if it's just mine or if there's something I'm doing wrong but it's driving me nuts. I don't know if I should reset to factory default and start over but I haven't done much to the phone and definitely nothing that should be affecting this. Has anyone else noticed this with theirs?
Downloaded clash just too test this. Everything looked crisp
Side by side with my s6 this is definitely an improvement. Especially at lower levels
I too am coming from a Note 5. Waiting on my order.. Would love more updates on this..
Cleared cache and it looks better but I still feel like the Note 5 looked better at least in CoC. The screen looks great otherwise.
I noticed the colors in CoC look much deeper and crisp. Almost to a point that it's distracting. I took a screenshot of the game and looked at it in the gallery and it looks more like the it does on all my other devices. I thought maybe game tools was doing something to it and turned that off. That didn't make a difference either. I'm sure there's something that's being done on the video processing level that's affecting the color.
And how about the color swift? The white turn into blue or green when you view in low angles?

It's just physics. There's going to be color shift with a curved screen. That being said I don't notice it.

Im not talking about the edge curves, I'm talking about the screen, I see the edge and note have a lot of this issues and not so much the s6 normal and s7 normal.
I noticed it too. It seems that if a game is detected, it changes the screen mode from basic to one of the more super saturated modes. I dug through the settings looking for a way to shut it off, but haven't found anything yet.

You put the phone in settings (white images) and if you see in a little angle you can see the whites turn in to green or blue, and I see it more in the edge variant than the normal. It's very annoying

I'm talking about this issues, I see a lot of videos in YouTube and the edge have this issues and the s7 normal won't. This is why some edge have a more visible edge curve with this color and other not so much. See the photo
