What happens if I flash a ROM from a different region on my phone? Will it brick? - Samsung Galaxy A20 Questions & Answers

All regions have received Android 10 except the Samsung A205FXXS7ATD2. The ATD2 version is found in Africa and parts of Middle East. The ATD2 version may never receive Android 10 as its promised dates (April-May) have passed and it hasn't received the update.
However, quartely security patches are still made available with the latest being on May/April. All updates/patches are usually several months late though! We might get Android 10 earliest during the November/December patch. Or never at all.
Note that all other Samsung phones in this region have received Android 10 on their promised dates. Even the A30, A10 and A10s got android 10 very early on.
What would happen if I flashed Android 10 from say India (A205FXXU7BTD3)? Or Singapore?
Would my phone brick? Would I lose sim/call functionalities? I want to try out Android 10 no matter how buggy the experience maybe.

I'm also from Africa and I'm also very impatient for the Android 10 Update. I have read somewhere that we'll receive the update after the April 2020 Security Update. Last month I messaged Samsung about when I'll get the update and they said : -
"Kindly be advised that all devices are region based, please note that not all countries get the updates for devices at the same time. Please note that once the update is available for your device you should receive it via FOTA."
I think I'm going to flash a GSI this week . . .

Not really. It rolled out what seems to be a soak test in a couple of territories and has since seemingly pulled it. The german DBT / multi CSC version wasn't even rolled out via OTA only through Kies.
Now it's unavailable on kies leaving users like myself with unbranded German DBT (CSC model) devices completely unable to flash it without downloading it from external sources and using ODIN.
Lollipop 5.0.1 seems to have gone officially into 'limbo' and were all guessing what this means for us. Perpetual wait for 5.0.2 or 5.1 ? Why did they stop rolling it out ? Are they going to fix and update to newer material design contacts/dialer/messages in a new lollipop version ?
Basically we just don't know and as per usual - play the Android waiting game.

I'd rather wait for the 5.0.2 version that the S6 is shipping with than use the current version. Or even better jump straight to 5.1.

you're right. Actually it's getting pretty bizarre. Samsung was hinting a Lollipop release in October 2014 (I know....hinting is no date) That was FIVE MONTHS ago without any information from Samsung. I HAD to install the DBT lollipop rom because my device was working very bad on KK (out of the box lot's of lags/crashes - had it tested but no solution) It's a better now but i'm not happy i'm actually still running a beta.
Right now Samsung is more focused on the s6. We have to wait but it's a bit strange indeed.
I feel your pain bro. My device (N910U) received its last update 73+ days ago: http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=SM-N910U
And Sammy is pushing out Note 3 updates...
You know, I don't complain.... Much.
But yeah, I'm with you. You don't just leave people dangling. Samsung pissess me off so much sometimes.
Here we are, holding the Note 4, and I don't know about you but I feel very not proud of my flagship phone.
I'm a first time Samsung user but I'm going back to the Chinese. Huawei treats me like a God every time I buy a flagship from them. I bought the note on a drunken whim. I love the pen!
However, is too expensive and I hate feeling like a school-child waiting for goodies.
I can't wait for the P8.

The 5.0.1 Lollipop rom is apart from some small bugs fine. If it was a soak test, why have they released the sources for it?
What ticks me off so much is the freaking lack of device priority in this update nonsense, not one S5 or definitely any NOTE 3 should be getting this update before the Note 4, we paid the big bucks for it; we should have top priority since it's the newest device (apart from the s6, but still that's far off) . and apparently the Sprint Note 4 is getting the update roll out today when T-Mobile says they haven't even received the update from Samsung yet. This is really starting to tick me off. Next flagship Windows Phone rolls around I'll be out of this game, I didn't have to wait for carrier approval, I just got it plain and simple without wait.
2 us carriers have it now
Just flash German lollipop I did it yesterday and it works flawless

It has already been said a million times and confirmed by Oculus themselves...The delay of Lollipop has nothing to do with the gear VR...
Those of you who are so eager to get Lollipop while having the N910F variant, just flash the Polish firmware and there you have it...others with the N910G/H will have to wait though.
Still waiting! Anyone know the delay? Who have got it in Europe? Germany. Poland. Anyone else?
ive been using lollipop for a few weeks now.
IMO its crap.. it really is not better then kitkat.
if i could downgrade back to kitkat without loosing my apps settings and files i would do it right away

6.0.1 update

I got my new x style but the weired thing is after installing 2 or 3 updates , it's still on android 6.0 but it has may 2016 security patch,
Isn't it supposed to be on 6.0.1 as may 2016 patch was released after 6.0.1??? Anyway to get 6.0.1 without rooting...???
Here's a screenshot
Plug your phone in.
No, 6.0.1 will likely never come to the handset as an official release. There is speculation they aren't wasting their time on 6.0.1 and working on a 7 release for your phone, but that is rumor and hearsay.

My Moto G5 Plus won't update..

So as the title suggests. I bought my phone 2 months ago, and since I got it it hasn't updated once. Nothing, not so much as a security patch or anything.
I've tried googling this but nothing comes up. I obviously check via system update - and it says it's up to date.
My build number ends 137-33.
Android security patch 1st January 2017.
It's not rooted. And all stock.
Is this normal?
My phone came with same build and you're not alone. Twiddling thumbs may help with the long wait, or root and try some custom ROMs. I've got the June 5th security patch running CyberOS which is based on Android 7.1.2 and other custom ROMs are similar. There's a debloated stock ROM based on India's G5+ update (they got one already) with the March patch at least. That said, there are rumbles ours is finally coming soon if you do want to remain stock and get the OTA.
What does it say under Settings > About Phone> Software Channel?
There hasnt been an update for the UK Moto G5 Plus yet.

I asked a similar question in a separate thread and maybe you know, is the update 137-35-5 that is available as a zip able to be flashed over this same build, 137-33 I have now? I unlocked my bootloader but stopped short of flashing twrp or rooting. I think the 35-5 update only has the May security patch only but someone uploaded the full firmware. Any opinions are welcome.

Yeah, I cannot believe that some regions were being updated months ago to March and subsequently May security patches and the UK is still yet to receive any updates at all. Why do manufacturers make their lives so much more difficult by having such variances by region? A single software version for all regions seems to work just fine for Google and their Nexus/Pixel lines.

Stuck in V10M-SEA-XX

Hi guys,
This is the last version i have on my phone h870ds and havent received an update since november, but i've seen in other forums security updates in january and march, does anyone else have the same issue? Is this a region thing?
you not alone. TWN is the same version V10M - thought it says 1st October for me. Pretty much forgotten regions I think!
Just flash another Region, if you're able to handle this. I did it also by myself. I got the TWN v10m version like you, now i have v10v sea global 1st March Patch. LG left the China Market, maybe also the Updates.

I have considered that - just keeping an eye out if/when OREO gets released for the TWN region then saves me messing around flashing other regions. Ain't you might as well flash with a KOREAN version then you should get OREO straight away? Unless the SEA is KOREAN - if thats the case, haven't you got an opportunity to update to OREO?
Im on the same boat... SEA is south east asia, wich means Indonesia, Malasya, Singapur, Vietnam, Thailand among others, its a kinda big market to be left alone all things consider... Someone should ask LG about it, since my phone is from that region, and my LG support on my country at least sucks... otherwise i would do it myself...
Edit: From a quick search on lg firmwares site i found that many other LG products got updates on firmware for SEA versions as old as this past month.. so i dont think it stopped updating phones...
same here! just wating for oreo to flash another region...
So we should still receive Oreo even if the security patches stopped?

And if we flash to another region do we still receive OTA's or we need to keep flashing firmwares everytime?
My G6 is from the HKG region, is there a way to flash another region?
both HKG and SEA can get Oreo update now via LG bridge

How to check if the phone is actually a global version

I just got this phone.
I noticed 4g issues, as if it was missing the 800mhz band (which is a common thing among chinese versions).
Is there any way to check if the phone is actually a global version?
i tried https://www.mi.com/global/verify/#/en/tab/imei but it doesn't accept the imei but i suspect this site is only for xiaomi imeis (could someone double check and let me know?)
Thank you
Does your phone also have the update issue where it cannot update to the newest firmware?
Asking because mine and others do on there official forums and they all seemed to ship from Poland.

Mine shipped from Poland as well but I had no update problems. Came with security patch February 2019 and was easily upgradeable to patch level March 2019 via OTA
