I just got the phone and noticed when I called someone - that then they talked where was some background noise (white noise) which might be quite normal. But when they paused - it was like the background noise disappeared. I have not noticed it with my old phone - a Huawei. Is this normal or?
Update:
I returned the phone for replacement. The new phone had the same issue – it was however better than the old one – but still not satisfying for a phone with a price label of € 1,200. So, I have returned the phone asking for a refund. I had my brother trying the phone just to make sure that it was not me who was the problem

Call quality is really good for me, I find the oppo has better antenna design compared to my last phone (Samsung note 9) and as such have better signal strength indoors.
It also supports HD voice and WiFi calling here in the UK (Vodafone).

Only issue on speaker people struggle to hear me unless I keep top microphone next to my mouth.

Works great. No issues. Plenty loud.
I have to add the noise cancelling on this thing is incredible. I was at a playground full of screaming kids and my mate called. He couldn't hear the kids. I didn't believe him at first but he could only hear me.
It would help if folks add their location and carrier. Thanks.
I am using only 1 SIM.
I'm from Brazil, and I'm using Vivo carrier.
Reception is good, but not perfect. I need to keep phone on the upright position or it can lose quality, specially in medium to low signal reception areas.
The call quality is great. However sometimes my audio starts getting choppy regardless of signal strength. The person on the other end hears me just fine but they are hard to understand.

So far that I can tell this is probably its greatest weakness. I really do not like that crackling hum or noise when waiting for line to come through. My previous androids (that is htc desire s and lg nexus 5) did not make that noise.
No problems with that so far.
so far so good
No ability to call on T-Mobile USA except with spotty GSM. VoLTE appears broken on the two phones I have.
So far no problems yet.

Call quality heavily relies on the service provider you're using.
I am currently using Vodafone D2 with HD-Calling option enabled.
Its (compared to Axon 7) pretty good.
The only negative thing I have to add: Because of the small screen-border, the earpiece is pretty small too - which makes finding the right angle for a call difficult.
A little bit too low: no sound - a little bit too high - no sound either. You really need to hold the phone exactly at the right spot in order to hear the sound clearly.
But nevertheless, the overall quality of calls is excellent.

I have taken new M31 6GB/128GB varient and started using last week.
Call quality in this is very poor and frequently voice is cracking and not able to understand whatever other person is telling.
Other person is also complaining same issue.
Same SIM I was using earlier with other hand set without any issues.
I checked on Internet and found that many people are facing this issue.

Yah it it is a major issue whenever my mom calls me i have to clearly hear the words. The main speaker is not good enough not too loud but ok. There is no background noise but the main voice from the speaker is low as we used to talk at the time of 2g and 3g era hello hello speak loudly i can't hear. Just kidding the voice is not toooo low neither high but it is managable.
Poor call quality
Great Call Quality.
Loudness of both Earpiece and Speaker is superb.
Just little bit of disturbance occurred in 2 calls but rest were ok.

Today was the day, I moved all the data, set up all the apps, did some finetuning, charged the battery and left the house. A little later I received my first call on the U20, and: Fantastic! Really! I've never had a call with such a clear connection!
No clicks, no noise, no short-term loss of connection. Absolutely clear, even though I was out and about in town, I understood everything because it was loud enough. As if the caller was standing next to me! Even on the landline with IP telephony, I would like to have such good quality! I am very thrilled!
Incredible what I was satisfied with before ...
very clear phone calls and strong voice, strong signal even in areas where my previous htc m9 didn't pick up.
