Is it really worth upgrading to the S20 Ultra from the S10+ - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

I know all about the new features and improvements: the crazy camera, beautiful 120Hz screen, huge battery and so on.
But I want to know what you guys really think?
They are offering good trade in values too ($600 for the S10+) and the preorder discount (~$200-235), which is only good at samsung.com. But I already own the Buds and the Galaxy Watch Active2...[emoji53]
So, with all that (including the S10+ trade in), we still have to pay ~$900 (with tax) cash for the S20 Ultra. Is it really worth it?

These threads are really pointless. If it makes sense for you, then make the change. If it doesn't make sense to you then don't. Only you know which differences matter to you.

That is only something you can decide. I upgraded from a note 10+5G (expensive) because I want the camera/screen upgraded and want of the Verizon version that can't even upgrade to other carrier software because it's a one off (with the mmWave antennas).
For you, maybe it's worth it, maybe it's not.

The answer is highly subjective - if you are asking the question, your personal answer is probably 'no', at least not 'day one'. Wait for prices to drop and then go for it.

It's entirety up to you my friend... For me, yes. I pre ordered the ultra upgrading from my S10+. Now is for you to decide if it's worth for you

[Q] Galaxy s2 vs galaxy note?

Hi dear,
I'm going to get either Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note.
The price difference between them is quite big..
GS2 is 730 NZD and Galaxy Note is 1199 NZD(as its just released?)
Do you think galaxy note has that much worthy?
What do think guys?
Hi,
I think it depends on what you want. I have my Note since todays morning and I can say its more of a small tablet than a mobile phone.
I like it relay much because I use it mainly as a internet device as I did with my nexus one before.
Try to get hands on both devices and decide after that.

Im just impressed the resolution of GNote.
Is it as clear as iPhone 4 on browser?
Or when you read some books?

I got the note for 550 euro (950~ nzd) so not sure where you get the huge price tag from. I have both the G2 and the Note and no matter what you use it for the Note is better. The huge screen is so pleasant for anything and if you do not own a tablet it is definitely worth it the extra 150~ euro.

Oh really?
There is only one shop selling note.
Probably I shouldn't purchase anytime soon..
And I own iPad 2 so.. Probably better wait until ppl review..
Also I saw the ICS will come to Note and S2 between in April and June next year.
It's my biggest concern... Should I get galaxy nexus?
Which is faster
I want to compare them from the performance point of view which is faster?

what about the performance which one is better
Note has a faster processor so in benchmarks it's faster. Thing is both are so fast I doubt it matters. Maybe ICS has higher hardware requirements and then the notes processor upgrade might help.

In fact, they use exactly the same processor, the only difference is that on note the voltage is higher so you can get a little more mhz at the cost of battery. The SII with any mod can have the same speed.

Welcome fellow Kiwi!
I assume you are looking at MobiCity for that $1200 ($1180 right this second) pricetag? For comparison, the Galaxy SII was $1120 on day one from MobiCity, so it's not that bad.
Buuut, you can order it from Expansys for NZ$1,074 shipped and save a hundred bucks.
Basically, if you like big screens and styli, the Note blows away the SII. If you really don't mind the screen size/res, then it's just a jumbo-sized SII with a CPU speed bump to match.

Hello mate!
But I'm not Kiwi. I'm Korean who is just studying in NZ
anyway, thank you for welcoming! haha
The shop I reserve for Galaxy Note is H2phone, not mobicity.
I saw that if I ordered it from mobicity, I might have to pay for tax to NZ custom.. so I would be around 1300!! Too expensive
Actually, yeah Note is more attractive to me than GS II due to the screen resolution and slightly different design!

Even if you're not born a Kiwi, I can still claim you for our country's forum representation.
Never heard of H2Phone, actually. It was $1199 on Mobicity a day or two ago, so I assumed that was where you got the price. You make a good point about GST though. Including GST, the Expansys price is about $1235 shipped, and Clove would be about $1160. Pity I'm based in Christchurch - I'd love to be able to grab one for an even $1200 from H2Phone.
And yes, the gigantic screen on the Note is a major factor - since it would effectively replace a tablet too, and has pen input, I'm willing to shell out a bit more for it, $1200 is about my limit though. Unless the 32GB Galaxy Nexus ends up being considerably cheaper.

Hey mate!
You are so sweet! Thanks for good info.
I found one auction on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/32078378918...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_500wt_1287
It is selling Galaxy Nexus 32gb for only 640 USD including shipping!!!
I think I'd better wait for it.. but one problem is that
I'm going back to my home country, Korea on the 8th of Nov so
If I can't get it before the 8th, I won't be able to get it this year...t.t
as I do not want my parents to know that I spent too much money for a phone haha
anyway.... I also think the S-pen is so unique and worthy with GNote but the price..... I guess it will be dramatically dropped once I will be back to NZ.
What do you think mate?
If you were me, what would you do?
Get galaxy note on Monday morning or order galaxy nexus to Korea?
one more option... getting iPhone 4S?
Please advice me fellow!

I'd get the Galaxy Note.
At the moment, no one really knows how much the 32GB (or even 16GB) Nexus will cost, but it will probably be about NZ$1100-1150 since the 16GB model is being pegged at $1040, and won't be out for at least 3 weeks.
The Note has a bigger screen, higher res, (probably) faster CPU+GPU, and pen input for about $50 more. Not to mention dedicated buttons on the Note so you have more usable screen space all of the time.
On the other hand, the Nexus has Ice Cream Sandwich now instead of 2-3 months from now, and faster updates, it has a faster camera and.. that's about it. Unless the price comes out significantly cheaper than the Note, the Note is the better buy to me.
As for the iPhone 4S, it has a 3.5" screen. You can't get anything done on such a tiny, girly screen.
Sjael: Cool!
I made my decision. Tomorrow morning I'm gonna get Note
Yeah in terms of the spec of the Note, 2-3months or even longer doesn't really matter for ICS. Anyway it'll be surely getting it and it will look gorgeous on Note!
I have purchased so many apps in AppStore that's why I was considering to get iPhone 4s but I have iPad 2 so it'll be okay.
Thank you for really helpful advice Sjael!
Hope we can see in NZ some time soon
irrespective of what crap all are saying,,you must try galaxy note yourself,,try it yourself first,,it's too big{and i mean too big} for me,hardware is great but it's not a thing you will like to be your daily phone,,its very big so try it yourself before comparing it with anything else

Hey, I have one question..
In the other thread, the owners of GNote said it's laggy compared to Galaxy S2, is it right?
And as I said before, i play Internet with my phone quite often so the size of the Note doesn't really matter to me.
Please just let me know if it's too buggy and slower than galaxy s2.

Unfortunately it's not so easy to try it first in New Zealand, where phones typically come out 9-12 months later (if at all) than in the US/Europe, unless you import them.

Help me im selling my note

HELP me guys, today i checked galaxy s3 in a store here and it was fast as hell compared to Note. i am literally so so worried to sell my note for S3 but the only reason is small hiccups that are there in Note! i am 1000000% satisfied with Note but the only reason i m selling is the small hiccups and thats it!
well, i just wanted to know what is the selling price of used Note in your country? i bought my 16Gb White Note on 24th March 2012 for US $605 or UK 392 Pounds, or Euros 456.
now this store here is ready take my Note for $ 410 or UK 266 Pounds or Euros 309.
what do u say is this price ok for my 2 months used Note? i know this is not a fair deal to sell Note, but Hell yes i will come back to Note 2 if it has Exynos 5250!
but for now i am selling my note. is this price ok for my 2 months note? pls guys do reply me soon and sincerely! i m really tensed!
thank u all in advance!
If you managed to get $450 then it will be good deal.
But if I were you then I should newer sell my 2 months old note.
.
I bought my Note brand new for $620 on eBay. Seems like to me, $410 is too low especially if it still looks brand new and you have never rooted or anything.

Satisfied with the note.......small hick-ups........ Sell because of them???
Ok, if i'm satisfied with something i don't want to sell it, about the small hick-ups we have to consider that these problems appeared with ICS they will be sorted out.
If you think the S3 is without problems (or hick-ups) think again, there aren't devices without flaws or problems. Take a look at htc's they have a lot of problems and people send them to be repaired and htc is releasing updates to solve the software problems. Samsung isn't that fast but i think there will be a major update sooner or later for the note's problems.
Ok, you want to sell, take up the offer from the store and buy a S3. Better deal you can't get.
And if you are talking about eMMc bug as the "small hiccups" just go to a safe kernel that our wonderful developers have made.

i bought Note for $ 604.751 exactly on March 24! now price has dropped to $497! thats too much man! isn't it??!! i am an ACCA student and i work on part time. i dont earn a lot, i know the price of Note would decrease even more. there are only 4 things that made me think of selling my Note:
1- i really dont know how to draw and i dont use S-pen!
2- The Note after ICS feels even more Slower especially in UI experience!
3- Note's price is falling like rocket and its marked resale value is even lesser!
4- the camera on Note is a bit slow.
pls some one tell me should i give my phone for $ 410???
The note is unique because of the S-pen. You just cannot do things the note can with another phone. If you don't use the pen, then the note is nothing special except for the large screen imho.

Don't be so dam impulsive. List your phone on Ebay or Amazon as mint condition. You can get 500 to 575 easy.
Once people start low balling the value of the note then everyone else gets screwed when we have to sell ours

Who cares if the price drops? I plan on keeping the Note a while. I have a bad habit of buying phones a lot and I spend way too much money. I had an Atrix and it's still considered somewhat new and still good and I bought a Note.
You have to remember there is always going to be something better. Technology is rapidly expanding. Go again, buy a s3. But, realize this, more than likely, you WILL lose money. Its just part of the business.
If you don't like ICS, go back to Gingerbread. Or go to a CM9 ROM. I have no problem with the Camera on the Note. I use stock Camera on CM9 and Camera Zoom FX and it's fine.

let me just say this ,samsung really screwed up the software side of things on the note ,if you want to compare then go and check an S2 ,you'll find it's also a lot faster than the note.
when I first got my note I hated it for this reason (previous S2 owner) ,then CM9 arrived ,oh boy was I in for a shock !! the phone seems to have gotten a hardware boost with it installed.
you don't care about the spen and even if you do ,you can find alternatives in the market like (free note) ,just install CM9 and feel the difference yourself ,all these small hiccups will be gone for good.
just make sure you read the instructions carefully and roll back to GB first via PC ODIN ,or else you could brick your shiny new phone.
also ,yes 420$ is **** low for a new phone , you remind me of the (sorry but has to be said for your own good) idiot who sold me his note for a similar price .
just read the instructions carefully and roll back to GB via pc odin then install cm9 ,and thank me later for saving you 400$ .

again ,install cm9 and you'll be wondering if it's the same phone in your hands.
I'd avoid ebay, they'll rob the life out of you.
im sure they take about 10-15% of the final fee, so if your planning on getting 400-500 or whatever it is for your note, ebay will suck a load of that from you.
if you going to sell it, do it privately, or just be smart and not sell it at all.

What kind of accountancy student are you? Have you never heard of incremental costs?
What will it cost you to change to an S3 v keeping the GNote?
Now what benefit will it bring? Is that worth it? Do a quick CBA. If you are as poor as you say you are, well, buying the S3 won't fix it, will it?
Lastly, buying most any smartphone is an object lesson in DEPRECIATION. If you don't want to suffer it, do not buy any FMCG item.

Exactly. Like I mentioned earlier, you WILL lose money on it if you buy a S3 and sell your Note. It's just fact of life. Just keep the freaking Note and save your money! Go buy something nice for your girlfriend, wife, whatever!

Sell S8+?

Should I sell My S8+ for the 8GB Ram Version of The Oneplus 5.... Pros and Cons?
I'm returning my S8+ that I have via JOD and getting the OP5 8GB model.
Pros.... you might get some of your money back even after buying it. The S8+ dropped in value recently its already down 120 or 150 dollars at my local carriers in my town. If you are thinking about selling it, then sell it. Its only going to go down. Samsung devices dont retain value that well. They sorta drop to the 200 dollar range and stay there forever. You can already get an S7 Edge for 240 dollars..... So..... i hope that alone speaks enough to you. OnePlus devices retain value very nicely. The oneplus one is still 220 dollars in most places. the 2 is like 240 the X is probably 200 somewhere i dont think many people care about that one. and the 3 is still in the mid 300 dollar range. Like 330-350. The 3t is still almost 400 dollars on places like swappa. Keep seeing 385 as the average number.
If you want my opinion rather than just some statements then I would say yes absolutely sell it now. The 835 is very underutilized on the S8+ anyway and most samsung phones are bloated messes. What even is bixby....?
Yeah, i'm concidering that also

I wouldn't.
I still have the oneplus 3, and I still wouldn't upgrade. The only this you're getting is an upgrade CPU and software support.
I'm in the same boat. With the price hike its no longer clear if this a good buy. Specially since the oneplus 5 comes with no IP rating and a 1080p screen. In Canada the oneplus 5 is going to be 680 dollars delivered. The S8 can be found for 700. The pixel XL which has a better camera and older chip is being sold for 600 here . So I cant really consider the oneplus 5 a no brainier.

I don't like the small screen but with 8GB of Ram I would be able to manage, offers a better camera sensor..... And honestly how many people actually use the water resistant to its full potential

What are you talking about dude? Galaxy S8 is $1035 CAD without tax, and with tax its $1169.55 (HST 13%). Pixel XL is $949.00 (sale price right now; regular $1049.00) CAD without tax, and with tax its $1072.37.
Lol, where did you get S8 to be $700 and Pixel XL $600 CAD? Tell me please. And I am asking outright price . Please post correct information.
Also, S8 can't be rooted. So much useless bloatware. Especially bixby button.
OP5 is better, op. If you can get the money back you spent on S8 or if its a bit low, then go for it.

Disabled, not deleted. Plus there is that Bixby button and its services. If you do disable it, it cases issues , i've experiened it before I returned S8+. You can't root Canadian S8 and S8+.

Why the heck would you want a OP5? A 1080 screen, no OIS and from the reviews so far an avarage camera, no SD card slot, no waterproofing etc. It's a mid range avarage and fairly ugly phone.

I also forgot the S8 has an HDR display. YouTube HDR looks stunning on it.
Less bezel is more, which is why I'd personally stick to the S8. Really hoped OP5 would go in a similar direction.

Anyone coming from s20 line of phones?

Using a Samsung galaxy s20 plus exynos version and very tempted by the oneplus 8 pro. My main concern though is the curved comers of the oneplus 8 pro as this is likely to make it difficult to hold the phone without accidental touch presses. Anyone else come from s20 line or considering coming from s20. What are your thoughts please especially now that the S20 line is coming down in price well second hand prices.

I preordered my OP8 pro 12/256 GB on April 15th, expected dispatch date is April 22nd (8/128 was sold out at the time I placed the preorder)
But now my Carrier has a special deal for S20 series, I can get S20+ (exynos) for around 715 euro on a 2 year contract. Ok, it is 8/128 GB version, but still it is 300 euro difference
My previous phone was S10+ (sold it last week) and I was pretty satisfied with it. I actually like OneUI and the possibility of rootless theming with Synergy
I'm undecided what to do now, whether to keep the preorder or to cancel it and take the S20+
important things for me as per priority order : camera, batt life, UI smoothness and theming..
how is your experience with S20+ ? camera, batt life etc ?

Phew that's a good deal buddy. My experience with my s20+ has been overall good. I don't really measure battery that much as I work from home so always have a charger. As for the camera I just take random pics and we all locked down in the UK so haven't been out to capture good pics. The experience overall has improved in terms of performance. I know they say the sd version is better compared to the exynos but have never used the sd so I cannot compare. The thing that worries me the most are the curved edges of the oneplus as they look really big and annoying. As I spend literally all day on my phone for work I would definitely find them hard to manage as most reviews keep on about them curves ?.
i have a s20u hk unlocked bootloader, probably going to return it once i get my op8 pro

Yeah it triggers Knox and you can't undo it.
I didn't go to Samsung any more because I am in the US and rootable Samsungs don't have newer US frequencies. My Tmo McLaren is rooted, so no more Samsungs over here.

ebay, and yeah i can return it, and don't care if the seller doesn't like it. he mislabeled the ad for the phone having 66\71 bands for LTE when it didn't.
I hate samsung, i should've never gone back, what a nightmare especially with their CSC bs !
I have S20 ultra and just got my OP8pro. I havent set it up yet but checked it littlebit and i already hate that it has more curved screen than S20 has. Especially when Samsung started to get rid of curved screens...
I've been a Samsung user for many years, upgraded my Note 9 to the S20 Ultra and didn't feel satisfied. Today I received my OP8Pro 12Gb version and so far I'm blown away. What a mighty device, it makes me smile from ear to ear.
Let's see how this will remain after using this beast as a daily driver for a longer period.
Ordered the ultra, didn't come, cancelled it. Ordered the 1+8pro on the 20th at 1530, came at 0950 on the 21st. Free bullets.
Phone is a beast

I'm in the UK.
I was very surprised tbh, impressive, three used DPD
I am, my S20+ is on eBay now and hopefully my 8 Pro arrives today, would have preferred the blue but not an option in the UK so green it is.
Exynos is a mess this year and the camera still cannot cope with any movement at all in a scene.
I come from a long line of curved screen phones with accidental touch input..
This phone is not like that... curves are not as drastic as are made to look like on reviews.. And palm rejection is excellent as well. . just my 2 cents Love my OP8P in blue.
Right, so, I had my P30 Pro, and wanted to change with something better. Well, it's not, yet. I' e ordered S20 ultra, mega disappointed (camera, battery life, everything), then sold it, and bought s20+, which is far better, but still, the camera is the worst I've ev9seen. Try this, with a tripod: night, no light at all, from nowhere, night mode on, Galaxy S10, Note10+, S20+. Well, the camera, from s10 is impressive! And I'll post images soon. P30 was, and still is an amazing phone, at least for camera.
Now, taking these info in fact, and bringing the advantages from op8 pro, you have the answer. Op8 pro is way better for less money.

Im considering this currently with a s20 ultra with SD processor, but consider OP 8 Pro just for the development capabilities as flashing kernels, roms, etc.
However with all the FP issue after unlock bootloader and doing all the customization options this phone would allow me to do it, im starting to doubt about making the change, im reading all the days this forum to see any updates regarding on those issues, because to keep it stock i would better stay with the s20 ultra.
Any thoughts?

No fingerprint issues that I've seen if you do everything correctly.
Even keeping it stock I would still go with the OP

What would be the correct steps in your thinking to just flash another kernel?
It would be my first OP so not able to compare between samsung vs OP, but if you do, what are the points that will make you go to the OP?

I had the s20 ultra snapdragon version briefly. It was ok, but not much different from my note 10 plus. The OnePlus 8 pro is waaaaay better to me. Especially for the amount your paying $1500 vs $1000... OnePlus all day

S10+ still worth buying?

Morning all,
I currently have a Galaxy A70 that seems to be slowing down quite a bit. It was never super fast to begin with. And the fingerprint scanner is terrible.
I'm considering a new phone and so far the logical choice seems to be the S10+. It still has decent specs, and the price is within my budget for a refurbished factory unlocked version. But I'd like to hear the opinions of actual owners. Do you guys feel that it would still be a good buy right now for around $300? Is day to day use still good?
If not, can you recommend any other phones that are better for around the same price?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, yes and yes. I bought one renewed from amazon and it was practically brand new. The S10+ is just as capable today as it was in mid 2019. I couldn't justify buying a S20 or S21. Even the S22 isn't looking like a worthy upgrade. I like my S10+ so much, I bought another one for a family member. It will get the Android 12 update and the cameras....oh boy. Amazing broski. I can't recommend it high enough. I paid $280 bucks and no one phone even comes close at that price range. There is also a ceramic version available if you want for $20 bucks more! Its a no-brainer. Just do it. Lord Willing, you'll thank me later!
On a quick note, I have an A70 as well. It is a huge upgrade, I can tell you that. The quality, is A+ on the S10+. However, the fingerprint reader is a little annoying. It isn't as fast other devices. Just a heads up. Its better than the A70, but it isn't perfect.

Thanks. I didn't see your response until now. But I ended up buying the S10+ and I'm very happy with it. It is so much faster than the A70. I sold the A70 too, so the S10+ only ended up costing me about $150. Definitely a great deal.
