Rooted that way (no TWRP needed) and everything works perfect.
Later flashed official davincie TWRP
(Mine is QFJEUXM v11.0.4.0 but for your it should work the same. Also I used latest Canary but some other prefer stable Magisk)

Did you patch boot.img with Preserve Verity and Preserve Encryption, but not with Randisk option - did you then flash it from fastboot (without using/having TWRP)

Rooting OOS 10.3.1 without patched img file

I have been trying to root my device several times now using the patched img method, and all of the time it has ended up soft bricking my device.
I would really like to know how to install Magisk the proper way with TWRP installed.
Please help me out
Thank you
Install Magisk from the zip file in TWRP - you have to do tethered TWRP boot ("fastboot boot twrp.img" - the UEFI bootloader on OxygenOS 10.3.0 and later are fixed so Fastboot tethered boot works correctly now), then install TWRP the usual way from zip installer, and finally reboot back into recovery then install Magisk (also from zip installer).

Does using official TWRP work?
You may want to use unofficial version as it works better than official ones (the one at twrp.me is already way outdated).

[GUIDE] Magisk for Android 11 Developer Preview 3 & 4 (NA, EU, IN)

As some may have noticed magisk is not working out of the box on the Android 11 Developer Preview on both the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.
This is due to a missing /apex folder in the ramdisk of the boot.img. See github bug report here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/issues/2994
I've patched the ramdisk with the missing /apex folder and latest magisk canary build for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. These images are unified for the North American, European, and Indian models.

Will update this with DP4 shortly. FWIW, SafteyNet will not pass on DP4 yet as it hasn't been certified by Google.

You have to use magiskhide propsconfig and it will pass safety net on dp4.. use the finger print file for op8 and all will be good..
Edit. Seems magiskhide breaks WiFi on dp4 on my phone though

can you explain step 3-4?? i got the patched img from above and clicked
magisk install
select and patch a file
choose the dp3_op8p img
then it says "unsupported/unknown image format, installation failed"
The images I've created are already patched with the latest magisk canary, no need to patch them again. Just flash in fastbootd.
When I fastboot flashed the patche image It gave error messages in the terminal window and the phone went into qualcomm crashdump mode :/
thanks dev can you add open beta 1

Is there any way to get Magisk Modules working on Android 11. I cannot flash any zip as a module from the Manager app.
This method did not work for me. I extracted my boot myself, patched it and installed it later by fastboot and it appears to me that it is not installed.

There are some modules like Looki75 Product Sans font, Google Dialer Framework and JoyPixels that are working on my phone. But some others like Swift Installer are not working. And I haven't figured out a fix yet.
Is this for the OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro?
Don't know if I'm doing something wrong:
Code:
[email protected]:~/Downloads$ fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
target reported max download size of 805306368 bytes
sending 'boot_a' (43504 KB)...
OKAY [ 1.354s]
writing 'boot_a'...
OKAY [ 0.133s]
finished. total time: 1.488s
I reboot and Magisk Manager says it is not installed.
I have the OnePlus 8 IN2013.
Flash to slot b

this method dont work
Any word if this works for TMO devices on the global ROM?
Sure it'll not work, apex folder wasn't created inside the ramdisk, there's a bug with it, just create empty apex folder and repatch it with magisk, it'll work.

Didn't work for me. Tried patching the patched boot then flashing, tried flashing to both slots separately, tried flashing to both slots altogether, ends up on bootloop every time. Mind posting your steps?
Are you using the Canary build of Magisk Manager to patch the boot.img? I got mine working now by extracting it from the payload manually and patching that file in Magisk.

Yes, I'm using the canary version of Magisk Manager. Extracted from the payload.bin as well, patched. Fastboot flashed boot_a magisk_patched.img, did the same for b. My active slot is b currently. Even tried booting the patched boot and still ended up in bootloop.
Had to manually patch with the newest canary to get root. Oddly, the manually patched boot.img is much smaller than other rooted OB1 boots floating around that don't work.
