Possible custom rom development? - Walmart Onn Tablets General

So this device shares the same processor as the Amazon Fire HD 8, which has GitHub repositories of kernels and Lineage 16.0, could we use these to develop a custom rom and maybe port Lineage 17 to the Onn tablets?
https://github.com/mt8163/android_vendor_amazon_mt8163?files=1

There's actually a Lineage 17 repository for the processor.

Theoretically any GSI rom that works on that tablet should at least boot on our devices. Idk if the radio chip (ex. wifi) is identical but i believe thats part of the vendor partition which isnt touched by the gsi.

That is true. There are more repositories. Maybe those could help assist getting Android 10 or other GSIs booting.

The PHH 9 arm64 ab gsi works good. It dosent seem to have any bugs currently. You need to flash vbmeta.img with the --disable- verification and --disable-verity options first followed by the system img. I used the img at this link: https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/releases/tag/v123

Would this work as a kernel source for building a custom rom?: https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/mediatek/+/android-mtk-3.18/arch/arm64/Kconfig
Our MT8163 chipset is included. Im looking to build kali nethunter for the 8" model.
Or at least the kernel with kali support.

I have had some strange luck with these tablets. 2 7 inch models from the Black Friday deal. One of them rooted and took a GSI just fine, tried the same exact setup (made sure they were identical even at android version) on the other and it failed, never booted. GSI's can be iffy for sure

Try taking a backup of stock on the that worked and restore it on the other. Maybe they changed something on the firmware side between when those 2 were made. Certainly strange.

I hear you. I have two 8" and they act differently also.

That's strange, does other Treble devices act like this too?

Where can I get CM13

Hi all, I just have a quick one for you guys. Does anyone have an archive of CM13 preferably the last release which should be the most stale, for our OP2. I need it to get Kali nethunter working on the OP2 for work. I can only get CM14.1 but nethunter doesn't work with that yet. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks :highfive:

Is there a codename for the OP2? I am seeing OP3 and OPO which is listed under bacon.
OP2 has a codename Oneplus2

In that case it isn't there
Please tell me that someone downloaded it and kept it?
I found these nightlies, dunno if they have bugs.

One last question guys, is it ok to straight up flash CM13 over OOS 3.5.6. Phone is fully stock but I'll be unlocking my bootloader and flashing twrp later today.
Uhh AFAIK you will need to rollback to 3.10 because the newer OOS has different modem firmware. So if you flash cm13 over the newer one I'm pretty sure you will lose sim2 and possibly have other network issues.

Thought so, thanks for confirming, looks like it will be a long revert, unlocking bootloader, getting the OOS revert edition then OOS 3.10 then CM13. Ah well such is the life of a flashaholic.
Indeed, good luck then

It's probably best to rebuild cm/lineage13 yourself (tell your company that you need a machine suitable for building android). Like that you can have the newest vendor blobs (by extracting them from official 3.6.1 zip/image) and even adjust the system specifically for your needs. Also, rom would be up to date (not sure if you have to implement newest security patches by yourself)
If you need an updated Lineage13 device tree/help for building (after you used google obviously) tell me.

Oxygen OS Beta 25 (Android 8.0 Oreo) image without firmware, without troubles ;)

ups wrong sub forum was meht for OP 3 not 3t
DavidXanatos said:
After browsing through the new Oreo threads, there were again a lot of users with issues related to new bootlaoder and firmware.
So to avoid that I tried installing the new Beta 25 without any firmware files only updating system and boot, and that seam to work just fine.
It was the same with back than fron android MM to N.
To install the image you need the new TWRP linked here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74154185&postcount=37
But its enough to boot the new TWRP with fastboot it does nto have to be flashed.
Here is the Oxygen OS Beta 25 zip without firmware: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=962021903579485163

OxygenOS without GApps

I am getting a 6T in a couple of days and I run my phones without any GApps or services. Is there a version of OxygenOS with this already stripped?
You can flash the Chinese firmware of oxygen os called hydrogen os. No gapps whatsoever

I think that's why huawei can't be sold in the us anymore but don't quote me on that but if OnePlus put that in there device I think it wouldn't be allowed to be sold in the us and hydrogenos and oxygenos are the same software just minus the Google stuff for the Chinese market

No. I didn't try cause I had just got done bricking my device. I was going to try this weekend but, since yours bricked.....
I have an idea. I think No Limits Mod can strip the OS down enough for NanoDroid to install.

Converted T-Mobile Unit Android 10

Recently, I converted my 6t to the international version of the device. Will my device support Android 10? I've read about issues with Play Store certification. Will I need to still wait until T-Mobile accepts A10 and then install it from them?
I thought this was the whole point of switching to the international version, to not have to wait for T-Mobile.
I have upgraded my TMobile OP6T a while ago and I'm using A10 and have zero issues.
I'm using the official 10.3.1 not any custom ROMs. Also using Magisk 20.3, latest TWRP and Omega kernel... Everything is fast and smooth.

A10 will work with your TMO converted device. The one issue is Play Store is Not certified, so Android Pay will not work. This is because TMO has not approved A10 as of yet.

If you root with magisk, and use safteypatch module g-pay works fine. Been using it since 10 was released on converted t-mo

Use TWRP 3.4.0-2 from twrp.me as it works just fine and it's strongly recommended to use the latest one for obvious security reasons due to the vulnerabilities in the old software as well as bugfix in general.

Thanks man I got it twrp to work. My phone is acting weird tho. I tried putting music on this morning and it said sum about the phone wasn't responding. This has nothing to do with the topic but root and custom kernel is not playing well with my phone. Should I make a separate topic for this?
