Backup Everything - ZTE Trek 2 HD K88 Andriod 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Following Step? - ZTE Trek 2 Questions & Answers

Hello all!
I currently am using an ZTE Trek 2 HD K88, which is on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. I would like to be able to backup the tablet so that i can revert right back to where i left off sort of speak. Meaning apps installed, Paid for content, accounts setup, etc... Sort of an image i am guessing.
I am using Linux, but can access windows if it has to be.
I currently have adb installed and can boot the tablet into EDL and stock recovery which have no backup option. I have not found TWRP that is designated for this tablet and android 6.0 (Marshmallow). It looks as though it may only be available for android 7.
Questions. -------------
What do i have to do for complete backup my Marshmallow K88? Assuming it to be like a image of partition or similar?
After i get my tablet backed up do i have to upgrade my tablet ito android 7 n order to run Rom? Seems as if everything is aimed at assuming the tablet is on nougat 7.0, such as TWRP. Basically what is the next step?
Thanks for any help you may provide!

- i have flashed the recovery from canonical (recovery-turbo) with unlocked ADB
- i can access to fastboot and to adb trough recovery
- i have make a map of partitions (ls -al /dev/block/platform/*/by-name)

Hi,
I also got my Meizu Pro 5 Ubuntu Edition a couple of days ago, and even I expected it to be not-so-polished, I couldn't believe the number of features missing and the number of unresolved bugs. Being a long-term Linux/Ubuntu user I will (from now on) closely watch the development process, but meanwhile I would like to use my new phone.
If you make it to flash Flyme, please share the full process.
It would be great if we could go back-and-forth Android/Ubuntu to check the progress from time to time (as Nexus can)

In this thread there is a link:

http :// xep.8800.org/ pro5/
But also on the Canonical site:
https ://wiki.ubuntu. com/Touch/ Devices
(Sorry for the spaces the policy doesn't allow me to post urls yet.)
I somehow thought that we can use official Flyme download from the Meizu website and the official Ubuntu turbo image without the need of installing TWRP or anything - and flash both via USB.
Functionality with TWRP would be a plus.
Well I think you can. Press both Volume up + power button, that's the stock recovery where you can flash images from meizu. So you probably can get Flyme when you have Ubuntu, but when you want to go back I think you'll have to flash the ubuntu turbo recovery back through fastboot. I think you can go without TWRP.

Well the power + up gives (a kind of) recovery that shows a screen with the Ubuntu logo in the center - nothing else. I believe the android version has a different recovery?
Ah I never saw that screen. Yes Android/Flyme has a different screen: like this
You can try to to use the Ubuntu recovery to flash a Flyme Rom. I did it with TWRP, but never tried it with the Ubuntu recovery.
The Flyme Rom replaces the recovery and boots with both TWRP and the Flyme recovery, maybe even with a Ubuntu recovery (I can't image it to be that different.).
Edit:
You might want to back up your current recovery. I just flashed the recovery from Canonicals website, and its just the English/Chinese Flyme one.
just a moment... thank's Pleytos, but we need the TWRP backup folder... on yours link there are the CM rom and on the Canonica site there are only the update.zip....
Keep in mind, also the partitons are different on Pro 5 Ubuntu, for this the best is to have the entire backup of an android phone, both CM rom and Update.zip are not flashable by TWRP (i have try)
and Toroman the recovery that you see is the original recovery, if you flash the recovery on Canonical website you have the screen posted by Pleytos BUT with this recovery you obtain only the unlock of ADB in recovery and, as you can read from the screenshoot to make an update you have to put a "update.zip" on root directory of the phone that, unfortunally in ubuntu edition, is read-only file system... i have just unlock it from linux terminal with a "remount,rw" but if you try to copy update.zip (many versions) to root fonder there aren't space enough...
I've make lot of try in this day and i have find two possible solutions:
- flash a rom with MultiUpgrade 4.8.5 (official software used by Meizu, that not start because some token is missing)
as reported in a big russian forum
- make a total erase of internal memory and rewrite it with a image from android Pro 5 phone (TWRP Backup)
Pleytos, one answer, wich room have you flash via TWRP? (both Ciano and Flyme, wich version)
All done... guide in details:
- on windows install driver: Samsung_USB_Drivers_for_Mobile_Phones_1.5.9.0
- on linux: run from terminal "$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-sdk-team/ppa" and "$ sudo apt-get install phablet-tools"
- download from here (http://people.canonical.com/~plars/touch/recovery-turbo.img) the recovery image with unlocked ADB
- turn off the phone and turn on with volume down pressed to enter in fastboot mode
- in windows go to the folder where you have fastboot / in linux open the terminal and give "sudo -s"
- make a flash of recovery (fastboot flash recovery recovery-turbo.img)
- now download the TWRP recovery (i've used the 3.0.0 on this forum) and from terminal flash it (fastboot flash recovery "nomerecovery")
- now you have to copy first a CM rom on the phone or sd, before flash the CM rom erase completely the system partition, flash it whit TWRP and only after you are able to flash Flyme rom
keep in mind to make a full backup by TWRP and save it on external archive before operate. (it's less complicate for future restore and help you if something goes wrong)

Hi! I flashed CyanogenMod 12.1 from Faust93, AICP 12.1 Rom from Faust93, and Flyme 5.1.6.0G & Flyme 5.1.5.0G via TWRP, It worked for me. I haven't been able to go back to Ubuntu though. Ubuntu-device flash doesn't work for me.
I can also flash Flyme with the standard recovery/ Canonical recovery by putting it on /sdcard/

Yes I can help you, are you running Ubuntu on your PC or Windows?
Before flashing Android, could you maybe help me with getting some Ubuntu files back? I can also help you through a chat or something if that is easier. Never mind I finally did it!I can still help you though, if you need me
Hi , Am running Ubuntu over windows ( virtual box ) we can go with team viewer , or if you want i can install Ubuntu in separate machine , Please let me know how we can communicate

Hi,
I've been away for some time, and I can see some nice progress in making Android work on the Ubuntu edition.
I might be repeating myself but it would be ideal if we (who own the Ubuntu edition) can go back and forth seamlessly. Unfortunately my flashing skills are buried in the ancient time of the HTC HD2 so I need some assistance (as probably more of us do). Here are some questions, I appreciate the effort and the help (assume I'm using Ubuntu on the desktop) (if something is easier in windows - please note). This would be a full circle:
1 Is it possible and how to make a COMPLETE backup of the Ubuntu edition phone (including the recovery and everything) to be able to get back to the factory condition (and using what tools/steps). I think I have read somewhere that OTA updates does not work with custom recovery or something similar.
2 after making the backup from question 1 - assume flashing official flyme to make it like a factory android device. (orig.recovery, OTA and so)
3 flash ubuntu back using backup provided with one.
I guess the ubuntu edition has the bootloader unlocked factory default.
Info on flashing CM or similar can than be like flashing it on original android - assuming (2) is working
As already said, just a remainder - Ubuntu recovery screen that came with the original phone is just ubuntu logo on the center on the screen - I don't know if it is important for any feature (OTA or something)
Best regards!
Also, looking around I have found this - seems interesting also

Actually this is most interesting! I would love to buy this phone, ubuntu edition. But since it would be my primary device and ubuntu touch not quite there yet, I'm not. That page about dual boot seems outdated though. And it is about nexus devices
Being able to have dual boot with android or even as someone said above have a back up and every 2 months restore ubuntu and check the progress would be great.

Upgrade from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on A2017G stock

Hi, I am looking for help to get from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on my A2017G. I am currently on B10 with an unlocked bootloader.
This is what I have tried so far:
a. Route via OTAs and zips on sdcard:
a1. B10 with stock recovery. Android works. Got here from B9 with OTA B10 installed via stock recovery from sdcard (downloaded B10 OTA from German ZTE site).
a2. Updated from Android with the Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip OTA on my sdcard (downloaded from the German ZTE site). Miflash completes without any error message.
a3. Result: phone reboots, after Axon splash screen, phone switches to edl mode (in windows: Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008).
a4. When I reboot to recovery, I can see that the recovery is 7.0.
b. Route via OTAs and N zip via adb sideload:
b1. B10 with stock recovery.
b2. In stock recovery, "flash from adb".
b3. On windows 10 laptop: adb sideload Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip. Result: error message "* cannot read 'Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip' * ".. Zip opens fine on laptop.
c. Route via TWRP and leaked Nougat 7.0:
c1. B10 with TWRP recovery, version 3.1.0-0-ailsa_ii.
c2. Flash ZTE_A2017G.Nougat_leaked_09_03_2017 BootStack and StockSystem by Tron1.
c3. Result: phone reboots to Axon splash and then switches to edl mode, same as a3.
d. Route via TWRP and complete fota update fota_update_A2017GV1.2.0B01_complete.zip
d1. Same result as c.
I have experience flashing with my HTC m7 but on the A7, it seems there are many more ways to make things go wrong and I have no clue where I am going wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Some strange things:
1) my A2017G (bought in Germany via Amazon, it says A2017G on the back sticker) reports itself as a A2017U to my windows 10 laptop.
2) in stock recovery, when trying to flash from sdcard, I receive an error message that the A7 cannot mount the sdcard.
Replica - sorry
OK, it seems this thread finds lots of readers, so maybe someone can benefit from the solution that I finally found.
These were the steps I took:
a. Starting point was B10 stock (incl recovery) and unlocked bootloader, completely wiped.
b. Only way I could get the 7.0 update (downloaded from ZTE Germany) to work was by putting the .zip on a usb stick and using an OTG cable. Then, 'update' in settings found the zip and started to update. Result was v1.1.0B01
c. As soon as I booted into 7.0, it found the OTA for v1.2.0B02 and started to install that. So, I now finally have 7.1.1 stock with unlocked bootloader.
A big thank you to @raystef66 who provided lots of practical and moral support. Much appreciated.
How can I close the thread?
@piet8stevens Hi, I have a build number ZTE A2017G V1.0.0 B11, MIFavor UI 4.0, Android 6.0.1, Kernel 3.18.20 and I'd like to upgrade to more efficient less limitative version as I have battery drain and can't remove / change google main account with my version. Would you know what's the best version, Is the one you have now better? also do you know when you mess up the upgrade and your phone doesnt work can you still factory reset?

AFAIK, you can always do factory reset. There are some good threads with all the files you need such as https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/download-center-factory-images-ota-t3606547.
Not sure what you are looking for, but I had good experiences with RR and AEX Nougat. I am currently on RR (unofficial version) N. Am just waiting for O to stabilize a bit to make the switch - see AEX thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v4-3-t3618950 . I run nanodroid and microG in order to protect my privacy from google. So, no gapps, no google maps etc... .

Noob Fix - Android 8.1, TWPR 3.2.1 doesnt boot into System

I bought 2nd hand phone for app testing. I went ahead to use TWRP for rooting purpose. To my dismay, Reboot --> System never works. Each time, the phone keeps going into Recovery mode which showed me TWRP console. I followed all instructions here, reddit and others like but in vain.
Finally, I just flashed into Android 6 factory image for Nexus 6P. Then I booted again to TWRP and installed Magisk. This worked.
Hope it helps someone.
PS. I dont need latest Andriod for my purpose.
Yap looks like something went wrong with your operating system because of TWRP.
Oh well at least everything works fine now.
Gosh, I sure hope this works for me. My bootloader is unlocked and I can get into my twrp recovery. Just need to find a stock image that will flash and boot. Stuck on the Google screen and don't want to be running on only 4 cores if I can help it. Tried Nexus OS but says it only works for angler and my device is "____." I guess it can't identify it. First I'll flash magisk, then the factory 8, 7, or 6 image if available. What's a good link to those images? Anyone ?

8th Gen Fire 8 Stock Firmware issues

Hi team, I've been searching these forums all day and not able to find a good tutorial on how to return to Amazon Stock on my 8th Gen Fire 8" tablet.
I previously had Lineage 14 on it, but decided to go back to Stock and running into some issues:
- I have the 8th gen firmware downloaded
- When I set TWRP into "adb sideload" mode and run the command on my PC, I get "E1001: Failed to update system image."
- I tried to investigate the message in the update script, but not able to decipher the code
- I also tried Lineage 17, but it wouldn't get past the loading screen
- At this point, I just want to go back to stock
Can someone point me in the right direction? My goal is to get back to stock and use the Amazon Toolbox.
Thank you for your help!
Download the stock firmware (OS6, NOT OS7) change the file extension to '.zip' (from '.bin'), copy to a micro SD card and insert into the SD card slot on the tablet. Boot into TWRP and do an advanced wipe (clear system, data and cache/ dalvik). Use the 'install' option to flash the firmware zip. Reboot and follow the on-screen instructions.

I appreciate your response, MontysEvilTwin. You mentioned OS6, but I don't see OS6 on the Amazon Firmware site (https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=G2JXLC4L34GX73TE).
It shows Fire HD 8 (8th Generation) FireOS 7| FireOS 7.3.1.5. Previously I had Lineage (karnak) on there which would indicate the 8th gen... these tablets don't have an SD card slot, but I understand your point.
I spent 8+ hours yesterday googling and flashing, so I'm reluctant to go down this path unless it's proven. Let me know if you have a FireHD8 2018 model and got this to work successfully.
In the meanwhile, I was able to load Lineage 16 w/o issues.

The HD 8 (8th generation) does have a micro SD slot, it is on the right hand side, on the edge just below the camera. You can install the OS software from internal memory if you wish, now that you have an OS installed to copy the update to internal memory.
If you try and load OS 7 with TWRP/ unlocked bootloader you will get a bootloop that you can only get out of it you disconnect the battery or allow it to go flat. You can upgrade OS6 to OS7 but you will need to fully revert to stock first: i.e. standard Android recovery, locked bootloader and unpatched boot image.
I have three Karnak tablets, one running OS6, one running OS7 and one running Lineage 16.0.

You're right about the SD slot. I located it. We had it in a case which didn't have an opening over the slot, so I never knew it existed *face palm*
Okay, so I'll attempt to get back to Stock Firmware. Thank you for your detailed response. Will update with results.

I'm able to use OS6 successfully and also Amazon Toolbox. I noticed in the system update that it's ready to upgrade to OS7. Given your warnings of bootloops, it's not something that I want to do. Is there a way to disable auto-update? Or a guide to get it back to full stock? I mainly need this for my kids to be able to watch/download Netflix. What do you suggest?

Thank you for the simplified explanation - I'm trying to get back to a totally stock 2018 HD 8. I'm able to restore using the OS6 image file, but it gets stuck in a bootloop after doing an autoupdate to OS7. Removing the battery allows it to stop, but it simply jumps back into a bootloop once started. Is this because it has a modified bootloader/recovery? What is the easiest way to fix this so that It can update and run OS7

Help with newer edition ONN Tablets (Android 11 versions of Surf Gen 2)

Thanks to the resources in this forum, I've been able to successfully root an Android 10 Surf 8" Pro tablet. I, however, have noticed that all of the files here are for the android 10 versions, and that a new series with the same names and different model numbers, equipped with android 11, have surfaced. I tend to get confused with everything, but have figured out how to patch a boot.img with magisk, get it back on my pc, and flash it with ADB and Fastboot. My issue is, that I don't have TWRP or recovery options to get the stock firmware off my newer tablet, the 7" with the model number 100026191. I don't want to try and patch the provided image for the A10 Surf gen 2 7" and flash that for fear of boot loop, so I was curious if anyone in here had a successful method of getting this devices stock firmware or possibly hosting it in a GDrive like the previous edition.

Thanks to the resources in this forum, I've been able to successfully root an Android 10 Surf 8" Pro tablet. I, however, have noticed that all of the files here are for the android 10 versions, and that a new series with the same names and different model numbers, equipped with android 11, have surfaced.
