About the mix 5G - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g Questions & Answers

Just wondering why there's literally no development for the mix 3 5G compared to the regular mix 3. It's been out for half a year now. No official twrp, not even miui 11, no Android 10. This is supposed to be the flagship of Xiaomi. Why is it being so neglected by everyone? I was expecting more development for it compared to the regular 3

Bump, I'm looking to buy this phone but the lack of support is scaring me

Try gsi rom

can you take any gsi rom and just flash it and it should work somewhat?

I'm guessing it has no development support because there's not much in the way of 5G support, so nobody is buying it. I've been wondering the same thing about the Mi 9 Pro, I don't care about 5G but I'd like to get one for the bigger battery and so far there's not much interest in that one either.
Where did you buy the Mix 3 5G from?

This sounds awesome, they're going all out with this, cant wait to see some hands-on/reviews. Hard to believe, 6GB RAM devices are already starting to surface, when 4GB is still really just begun to appear in the big flagships.

It doesn't have nfc, but still, it's a really impressive device. 5.5" screen and 3500mah battery and it would be my perfect phone!
I'm guessing there will be alot of development on here in terms of custom roms & kernels for this new bad boy ?
Official Site
It has good hardware at a very convincing price....I am definitely going for it...rest on our awesome xda developers who will anyways develop custom roms for the phone(hopefully it doesnot have bootloader unlocking restrictions like we have in mi 5)...my next phone for sure....

Again this will depend on whether our developers decide to buy this or not. It is without doubt the best specced phone for the price!!!
Just seen this device in an article earlier as well, this is the LITE version!!!?? It seems to be listed on oppomart for pre-order and is running a stock like rom, although the pictures may be just mockups and so I wouldnt rely on them. Theres some serious hardware on offer for a fraction of the money of the big brands. Obviously it probably wont have the same amount of development as the ZUK, but looks to be an impressive device nonetheless.

Yes sorry, I know its a different phone, meant to say its off-topic (while still on the topic of chinese brand devices!).
They are both packing 6GB of RAM as well.
Ah with you buddy! That's a good phone as well!! My only reservation on that one is the processor. Lack of Snapdragon means lack of mods, or so I'm led to believe.

Anyone knows the material of the lens on the backside?
I really don't hope a plastic type at least scratch resistant mineral glass. of course sapphire would be best but i doubt it.
And wondering durability. Saw a test of the Xiaomi Mi5. flimsy as f#*k.
Waiting for some more camera test for Z2 and Z2 pro. I am not convinced yet. Saw some pics and they looked a bit blurry..
Hello ZUK 2 PRO Fans..
Yes, I just got my ZUK 2 Pro 128GB version phone today.. This device was purchased from ZUK's official website in China.
It doesn't have google play store and services; how do I install all that safely? It has all the typical Chinese apps and it does not have multiple languages other than Chinese & English...
Please HELP!

Mi Mix EVO with Snapdragon 835 leaked on Geekbench

Looks like there is a higher-end variant of the Mi Mix in the horizon called the Mi Mix Evo. Leaked Geekbench screenshot shows Snapdragon 835 and 4GB of RAM.
I wonder whether it will have a better camera sensor.
I'm not worried about the Snapdragon 835. I knew there were many new devices from Samsung, LG and the like with better specs than the Mix, coming out soon.
I expected the Mix to be a "one of a kind" device for a while, like how the Xperia Z Ultra was, at one point of time.
If the rumors pan out to be true, the fact that it may change that, is a bit disappointing I guess.
Moreover, judging from Xiaomi's history with previous devices, it doesn't look like we may see a lot of development for the device. Add to the fact, a very small community of us here and an even smaller community of users at the MIUI forums.
Does anyone regret buying the Mix, considering the Mix Evo would be sold at a similar price?

No regrets
@vergilbt I agree..
Not at all.
Sent from my MIghty Mix.
This would be cool if it has something other than a ceramic or glass body.
It'd be refreshing to have a ruggedized shell/display,no need for a case.
Otherwise, I don't have regrets.
Worldwide 2G/3G/4G/LTE support would be the main spec to consider trading up.
An I-R Blaster & wireless charging would seal the deal.
There's a lot of nice phones hitting the market soon, most of us here will be experiencing some measure of buyers remorse, especially if you're strictly a one-phone-at-a-time user.
HTC's latest U Series devices look nice. The Ultra is tempting (for me),but, I'm passing.
Besides, they will likely introduce yet another flagship @ MWC.Ditto with Huawei (P10), Samsung & LG.
It's a vicious nonstop cycle that's a real Love/Hate experience for those of us who use little to no restraint in trying out virtually everything on the market. ?
With that said, I'm outta here for a bit,got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro that just delivered & a Huawei Mate 9 delivering tomorrow.
An intervention is definitely in order,LOL......?

Do you sell off all your old devices or keep them? I buy mine outright and mostly keep them. When my cycle hit 6 months I had to grab myself by the neck and slow it down. Can't let this consumerism consume me

Most of my phone deals have been leases via T-Mobile's JumpOnDemand.
I've sold a few,not many,but, the trio of Xiaomi Mi MIX/Redmi Note 3 Pro/Huawei Mate 9 look to be long-term keepers,having buying them outright.
If I do need to thin the herd,I'll list 'em on Swappa,as other sites/private sales net only a fraction of their worth.

My phone came with an unlocked bootloader.
As soon as I realized that, I installed TWRP,made a backup of whatever was on my phone & jumped to the EU ROM,switched seamlessly to GlobeROM (very similar).
I have most MIUI/Xiaomi apps disabled, using SD Maid Pro.
Using Nova Launcher Pro & MIUI Xposed,I believe there's a thread here somewhere with the links for the proper version of Xposed for MIUI 8.
If not, just ping me & I'll post/PM 'em to you.......
In photography we call that Gear Acquisition Syndrome (gas).
The way I fixed it is to use the older generation for a while. I had a pretty serious issue with phones before but was forced to use my original xperia z1 after g4 had bootloop issue.
Turns out the z1 is so lovable that I didn't even bother fixing the g4. I only got the mix since it's one of a kind phone.
The hardware upgrade is getting insignificant. Even with a 50% battery improvement on the mix, it wouldn't be that important since the original mix is already pretty damn good.

Got this device just a few weeks back. I knew there were next gen phones with next gen specs coming out around Feb- March, which didn't bother me much. I bought the Mix, knowing this is a unique device. If an upgraded version hits the market too soon,, it will significantly diminish the value of the Original Mix. Moreover, we may not see much in terms of development if the interest for this device goes down too soon. And considering Xiaomi isn't very good at releasing kernel sources, we may even be on Marshmallow for a long long time. And that kinda sucks, especially for people who don't switch phones too often!
Before people start getting too pissed off, bear in mind the sheer volume of fake rumours that surface in relation to Xiaomi handsets - probably more even than for Samsung or Apple.
There's already been the debunked news about the Mi Mix Nano, not to mention the rumoured SD821-toting Mi S that never materialised, the rumours about a Mi 5C that have so far come to naught and a lot of Mi Note 2 rumours that turned out to be incorrect.
For all we know, that's just a test unit for the SD835 Xiaomi are using that's been given some random name - or even a completely faked benchmark.

Good call all around. :good:
Most of the angst is tongue-in-cheek,most here know how the life cycle of the smartphone scene is in constant change.
Those truly upset would do better to find a hobby that's just as consuming, but, easier on the wallet,or,focus on finding the best in the low-to-midrange segment (Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro,OnePlus,etc.....)

Just hoping Xiaomi releases Kernel source for this device. As long as we see some real development for this device, I don't have any problems even if they bring one with Snapdragon 840.
The oneplus 3/3T has some really good ROMs, is based on the same chipset and if we have the source for the Mix, guess we can port a few ROMs. AOSP or CM anyone?

Nothing like forced perspective to appreciate the MIX:
1) Just finished setting up my Redmi Note3 Pro & while it's definitely a great device, arguably the best bang for the buck available,it can't hold a candle to the Mix.
2) Same with my Samsung Galaxy Note4,is still a great phone, but, even with its S-Pen/I-R Blaster/expandable storage & removable battery, I'd pick the MIX without any hesitation. The performance/display/battery life are outstanding, exceeding expectations big time.

Don't get me wrong, I completely get how frustrating it is to shell out for something and have it be superceded shortly after, even when you know it's likely to happen.
And should Xiaomi turn around and announce a superior Mi Mix a couple of months after I got mine, I'd be first in line to whine about it.
But having spent something like 10 months last year waiting for a phone I wanted to splash out on, I've come to realise just how low the wheat-to-chaff ratio is with Xiaomi rumours. So I'll hold off on complaining until I know for a fact what's happening

Each to their own, of course, but for me a huge part of the appeal of the Mi Mix is MIUI - any other ROM would feel like know was losing part of what makes the Mix so great.

Looking to buy OP 2; couple questions

Hello.
I'm looking for a new phone, my budget is around 320 USD and therefore OnePlus 2 has really caught my eye. I've found a deal for 300 USD and I'd like to ask a couple questions.
1. The OnePlus 2 sports Snapdragon 810. I haven't heard much about it, but isn't SD 810 infamous for its issues with overheating? Is overheating an issue with OnePlus 2? Can it be completely resolved by flashing a different ROM/Kernel?
2. I plan to have this device for a longer period of time, around 3-4 years. Is OnePlus 2 a viable choice, despite the fact that almost 2 years passed from the release? Will it be able to hold off for that long, in terms of ROM support and general performance/usage?
3. How satisfied are you with your phone? Would you recommend it to me?
Thanks in advance.

1. Snapdragon 810: daily usage is good (I'm not a gamer at all): Messenger, Fenix (Twitter Client), WhatsApp, Facebook through Chrome Dev: everything is good. Yes, just good. Not awesome.
2. Long period of time ? Hell no. Look at OxygenOS update(s) for example. Well. we still don't have 7.x as OnePlus 3 / 3T already have 7.1.x. ROM support. Maybe custom ones yeah, but I think that's all.
Also, Grarak, which is one of the maintainer of LineageOS for the OnePlus 2, seems to stop build ROMs, as announced here. This might be an issue in future, even if there is some developers on this phone.
3. Satisfied ? Not at all. I bought this phone because I had an invite back in time there were still some, and I though hype would be the same as OnePlus One. But very disappointed with phone.
Just go for 3T, or if you have time, wait for OnePlus 4 | 5 , rumors say OnePlus might announced it soon.

Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
I'd like to look back on some questions:
2. Well, I was probably planning to use custom ROMs exclusively, I'll see about that. I didn't expect much from OygenOS to be honest. The thing about Garak seems worrying though.
3. I'd really like to go for the 3T, but I'm restricted by my budget which is around 330 USD. Do you have a better phone to propose?

You could search for the LG G4 for example, which as a Snapdragon 808, 3GB of RAM, Sdcard and QHD Screen, around 325-350$. Be sure, if you buy it, to check for an unlocked one (no locked bootloader for example).
If you search, you could be able to find a OnePlus 3 (just 3, not 3T), under 350$.

While G4 is certainly an interesting choice, I'm hesitant when going for it since I'm worried of all the bootloop issues that were reported to occur. I also think that I could use a little bumped-up specs.
Thank you for reminding me of OnePlus 3. Since there are small differences between 3 and 3T, I'll try and find a deal under 350$. If you have any online shops to propose, please do so.

Sadly there are no entries for my market (Europe). However, browsing Ebay, I found a listing claiming they have a new OP 3T 64 GB at $352 "in perfect condition". The seller states: "Bought as Anniversary present. To be honest it's a lovely phone if you like Android But I wanted an iPhone. My wife thought I'd like this instead. Used for 2 hrs around the house and that's all. "
How legit do you think this is?
Oh yess man! I've been using the device for quite awhile now and yes I won't recommend it to u now. It's good but not awesome, just good! Moreover, the software updates are kind of on a standstill now however Custom roms are abundant.
At this point of time, within your budget, I would rather recommend you to go with a device with a sd625! Excellent processor with an exceptional battery management, no heating no matter what you throw at it! Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, Lenovo P2 or the upcoming Moto G5 plus ( supposedly to come with Dual Pixel tech same as in Samsung S7) are a few to mention. Moreover, Xiaomi Mi 5 (comes with SD820) is a crazy good phone to consider if u can get your hands on one! Highly recommended!!

Agreed. I don't use camera that much so it's fine for me. I wish it had more software development than it, but even then, it seems to be extremely good out of the box (software-wise). So yeah, I'm in kind of a dilemma now, cause I need a device that will last 3 years or more. Also I can't go with Redmi Note 4 or Lenovo P2 because they don't have the required bands for my provider.

Then my opinion is that u must wait a week or two and buy yourself a Moto G5+ it will be having the same multipurpose fingerprint sensor (the one Lenovo uses), a class apart camera, much faster updates and vast dev community and this time they are even implementing moto voice feature which was earlier enjoyed only by the moto x users! Seems reasonable. I might as well wait for G5+ and buy it when it becomes available. Thank you once again.
Take my advice and don't buy it.
So did you go for the OP2?
The G5 looks like a good alternative!
no save your hard earned money and buy a better phone, this is already a 2 year old phone and its not worth buying anymore, otherwise if you find a new one for just $50 bucks go for it otherwise forget this phone even existed.

Is anyone concerned about optimization?

So as I'm sure everyone here is aware given XDA's articles on it, Samsung phones with the Snapdragon 820 (well, really ALL Samsung phones, but the 820 ones in particular) had some serious performance issues compared to both the Exynos version, as well as other phones with similar Snapdragon processors.
Does anyone have any info or inkling or just general thoughts on whether the S8 series will have similar problems?
Personally, I'm kind of turn, as I was more or less pleased with the performance of my Note 5, but downright can't stand the S7's performance, so I'm kind of torn on what direction I'm going to go with buying the S8 or not.
I always worry Samsung and Qualcomm will screw it up. I wouldn't be surprised if my OnePlus 3T outperforms the Snapdragon S8's.
Yeah, that's pretty much the exact comparison I've been thinking about.
Of course, I don't think it's even possible for a phone to be faster than the 3T is in day-to-day use.

Oh please. I had zero complaints with my Mate 9 when I had it, and my Pixel XL is perfectly smooth as well. My 7 Plus is a hair smoother sometimes, and that is faster than the 3T.
HOPEFULLY Samsung has their **** together this time, especially with the 835.

From my EXTREMELY limited time using the device in store, it seems that Samsung has tightened things up a bit. It's a good bit smoother than last year's 7 and 7 Edge. Everything is noticeably more fluid and I didn't experience any hangs when opening apps.
Anyone else notice the speaker volume extremely low?

Haha, calm down there. I'm not trying to throw any other phones under the bus, I'm just saying the 3T's performance is impressive.
And, obviously, Apple is usually faster than Android in general.

Hopefully we can get some custom kernel and roms with good performance, I hope Samsung can put more effort on 835 S8.

Should I cancel the order and get a international version? Hard to decide when you can get free gear VR.

Did you just miss the last few years of Samsung development? You won't be getting custom roms or kernels unless you get a OnePlus.

Partially true, the S7 has plenty for the Exynos. It's the Snapdragon variant that won't see any support, if it's locked down again of course.

i think even the exynos get a lot of more support than the snapdragon one
assuming how the snap 820 was, the Xiaomi Mi5, One Plus 3, got really a lot lot of custom roms, meanwhile LG G5 and HTC 10 not much, meanwhile the S7 Edge, as i can see in the forum, has nothing for the 820
I assume now the Xiaomi Mi6 will have a lot of custom roms, with the Snapdragon 835, i don't know about other future phones with this besides the S8, but i'm sure the Exynos S8 will get more community support than the Snapdragon One

I'll never buy another Xiaomi. They violate Googles policy and take forever to release the kernel source. They won't even bother until the next model is out. Also, they have below par camera's and are slow with important updates. Their idea of a firmware update is to add something to the calculator, or improve their forum app. Lol. Downloading an entire ROM for that is a joke. Can't wait to sell my Mi 5s Plus.
Oneplus is the best way to go for custom ROM's. I wouldn't choose a phone just for that though, each to their own I guess.

i have a Xiaomi Mi 5 and i won't say that you are wrong lol, the camera is not the best in any means
anyways i'm guided to buy a phone by it performance and no other things, but that is just my case, so i'm good with the Mi5
the Mi 5s has Snap 821 if i'm not wrong? same as the OnePlus 3T, but it seems the 3T has a lot more roms than the Mi5S (and Mi Mix, this phone has Snap 821 too)

Two and a half years of Zuk2 plus and I'm planning to upgrade!

It's been two and a half years using zuk2 plus and I am mesmerized by the development support it has till now. I have used many budget xiaomi Redmi series phone in between but so far Zuk 2 plus beats them all in terms of Roms stability Developers made. A very big THANK YOU to all the developers for their hard work.
I'm planning to upgrade my phone which will have good developers support like this phone. ONE PLUS and Poco phones created so much hype but I want to try other phones running Qualcomm chipset.
My budget is between $350 - $500.
I'll still be using this phone till developers continue their support even if I get a new phone.
Your valuable opinion will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Confused with poco or one plus. One plus refresh their phone after ever six months and it becomes outdated quickly. Poco on the other hand is likely to release new phone this year anytime soon so If I am to go for Poco I think I should wait for the new update.
I wonder if there is any phone releasing flagship Qualcomm chipset in my budget this year ?.
Anyway, Thank you very much for recommending me.

I do agree on that.. however as of now I feel sd 845 is pretty good for next 2 years .. 855 would be too expensive with op as well.. rumors are quoting upwards of $600.. unless poco comes out with 855.. if you are ok to wait for that then go for 855.. otherwise 845 is the best as of now market..
Poco is with lcd where as op is with amoled meaning superior display .. poco has liquid cooling meaning less heat. Choose what goes for u
