Moto Q7 need to get text messages off phone by PC HELP - Moto G7 Questions & Answers

I have a bone stock Motorola Q7. The screen is broken and I severely need to get my messages off of the phone. What is the best way to go about doing this. Also does anyone have recommendations on screen digitizer replacement...this phone doesn't have a removable back. Any tips, tricks, or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

I don't suppose bootloader is Unlocked?
ADB debugging turned on?
OEM unlocking toggled?

I dont mind where the thread is moved to as long as I can get my question answered. To answer the second part, nothing is unlocked and nothing is different about the phone at all. It is literally the exact same as it was when it came out of the box minus the screen being screwed up. With that said someone PLEASE help me figure out how to extract these messages!

I don't know of any way to get any user data like texts, without unlocking the lock screen so the data is unencrypted.

I'm a cellphone repair tech, best way would be replacing the screen to get the data. The back is removable, just not "user removable" because of the adhesive holding it on. Check with local repair shops if you have one.

Most major phone companies have web based sms and that can be accessed via web--Verizon does for sure as I've text my kids online all the time and old messages show up too

Htc Bricked?

Hello.....
My htc hd2 is bricked..At least i think it is.
When i try to turn it on then it vibrates 7 times and won't turn on. I sent it to some small shop repairing service but they couldn't fix it. Is there something special that needs to be done? Please could anybody help me?
Sounds like bricked. Did you check that none of the battery pins are bent and not making good contact with the battery?
If that's not it, then its probably bricked. Did you try flashing a new rom or radio and end up with it in its current state, or did it just start doing this on its own?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Im afraid once it vibrates a few times but the screen is blank during power on, the phone is bricked. Happened to my Touch HD once. However, im sure given your status, you would have tried to enter the boot loader or try a hard reset. Your best bet is to get a used HD2 with a broken screen(quite cheap) and salvage the mainboard. Alternatively, you can purchase a RIFF JTAG tool(http://www.gsm-technology.com/index...963?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b5d4b5d3), (http://www.ipmart.com/main/product/JTAG,Adapter,compatible,for,HTC,HD2,,LEO,277864.php?prod=277864). This should work if you follow this tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eoiuM9epp2o). A few HD2 users on this forum have tried this before, but it really depends on what damage your FLASH has undergone. If its data corruption,it should be salvaged via the tool, but if its some sort of hardware fault, im afraid it wont help. Hope this helps, and good luck!

And just to lighten up the situation a bit, youve made a good choice in getting a Galaxy S II. Not only is it a hell of a phone, but Samsung phones are unbrick-able. In the sense that if you brick it, theres a software that can unbrick it and especially for your Galaxy S II, theres this tiny tool (http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNBrick-Sam...686806?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f0d46da16) that you can plug into your micro USB and make it breath again. Thats one hack of a feature!...Hope some one can design something like that for Snapdragon/HTC devices.

Yeah, Isn't this jtag thing really hard? But I guess I have nothing to lose, right? :/
Thanks a lot for the responses
If you are looking for a cheap tool that is capable of JTAG, look here (I never said it was easy..) :
http://code.google.com/p/the-bus-pirate/wiki/Home
it might be a software problem. i think make a clean install of a stable rom. i solved my same problem by this way.
If you hold down the volume down button and power it on (continuing to hold down both the volume down and power button) does it go into download mode? If so you should be able to flash back to a stock ROM I believe.

[Q] Pattern Locked, No Touch & Need SDcard backup. - No digitizer, visible screen

Hello
Before you ask, I have searched high and low for a solution for this, trying different attempts, so here is my thread. If you find or know of another thread with the magic solution, please link me and I will thank you eternally
Me and my girlfriend have just got back from holiday and I broke the screen whilst we were away. I need to recover the data from the sdcard as it has all our holiday photos.
It is the LG Nexus 4, running the latest, STOCK, untouched Android 4.2.2.
Potential Problems
Mobile Data & WiFi is disabled - holiday so they were turned off
Screen touch / digitizer does not work
Stock Android 4.2.2
USB debugging is OFF
There's a daily alarm set which is p** me off!
Please, any suggestions?
Thanks, Josh.
As an update to this, Wi-Fi IS turned on, so I can use the online playstore to update an app, but cannot use the touchscreen and so access the app etc.

Untouched device with USB Debugging off. No way to crack this (as far as I know). A very similar issue, but still no solution. You may read this, or this.
To unlock, simply get your touchscreen fixed. No other way. Sorry mate.

Thanks. Great news - the phone is insured, but if I take the SD card out or do the touchscreen myself, it will invalidate the insurance. It's not just the front touchscreen which is broken, the back is shattered also.

[Q] Accidently installed rom for AT&T on D802. HELP!

Hey,
I've had my phone for a month or so, and I was changing the rom, and accidently installed the AEON v3 on my D208.
Now my phone is stuck on fastboot everytime I boot my phone, I've looked around and tried everything
The Back to stock thread doesnt work me for, I keep getting stuck at 49% and LG Support tool shows L02E
I've downloaded the latest, and the 3.9.1 drivers, all install except for LGE Phone Software.
I'm very frustrated and need help fast. I have no backup of the phone (which i forgot to take)
Can this be fixed? any ideas? - and or is it possible to push a new rom into my D802 from fastboot or through twrp.
I can access download mode and twrp.
Thank you.

It seems like you have wiped your baseband/modem. Go into settings and look at the baseband version. if it says unknown then its been wiped and you will need to flash back to stock or you may be able to flash a new modem.

Nope, Baseband shows as M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190036,
Also I flashed back to stock earlier and it made no difference, sometimes I also get a popup saying "phone not authorized. turn off and restart your phone. if network is unavailable, contact customer service"
My phone recognises I'm on talkmobile, and same with other different sims, also in network info it shows "In Service" but Mobile network state is disconnected. I cannot pick a network operator as said, and I've tried many roms, reseting my phone, and wiping the whole system and such while I was having the fastboot problem.
I'm really confused and afraid I've turned my phone into a hella expensive mp3. Is there anything I can do, or maybe I can show you so you could help? that would be really appreciated if you can.

Ahh i thought that. Some other guy posted the same sorta thing as you about signal completely dying He bought his online too. It turns out his device was reported stolen, so the carrier blocked it, the same way yours is (no signal) but don't worry it might not be that, ill go check the post and you can ask the guy how he found out.
EDIT: his post - "Well would you believe it. After much messing around, flashing modems, going back to stock, flashing with different recoveries etc, I took the plunge and paid for a checkmend.com report. It turns out that the device I bought on ebay 2 weeks ago has been reported as stolen and is barred on mobile networks in the UK. Paypal claim already done...
So just in case anyone else has a sudden problem with no signal, it might not be a bad flash!"

Might not have been stolen they may have sold it and then made an insurance claim on it to get a new one cheap. Thank you so much!
What I don't understand here is how can a stolen phone in a particular country can be blocked to be used all over the world. I see lot of ebay listings for BAD IMEI AT&T and T-Mobile phones being sold for international usage(outside US) & I know some people buy it for International usage and it should in a vice-versa situation. Is the OP from outside US & bought International version on ebay hence he can't used it in his country, because outside north-america, every country gets same model except for some Asian countries like South-Korea, Japan.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Broken LCD Screen (not the glass) - NEED DATA not screen fixed

Is there a way to do this?
Here's the thing... 1) The screen is total black... I can no longer even get a heptic response when trying to blindly unlock phone. 2) USB Debugging USED TO BE ON but when I connect via USB I only get that media player icon to show up in my computer. 3) ATT Warranty is trying to tell me they need the screen to be active or USB Debugging to be in order to access the internal memory. All I want to do is copy over the contents. Squaretrade already sent me the replacement. I don't care about repairing the hardware... just a way to salvage the data before I send the broken one back. Any help would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED>.. after this I will try to find a way to crack the new phone to make backups since that seems to be a major hangup of android, you need to hack the phone to backup the data.
Any questions, just ask. Thank you!

When I connect my new phone to my laptop I still get the Samsung Galaxy S4 media player popup but when I open the window, I get 2 folders: SD Card and Internal. When I go back to my old phone I open the media player and get NO FOLDERS. Now that said, I've removed the sim card and the external SD card so not sure if that would have any impact here.

I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get any replies mate. Because you have been posting in the wrong section!
Your device has a forum dedicated for it. That's where you would get faster answers.

Please remember that the Galaxy S 4G is a three-year-old phone at this point and there isn't anywhere near the traffic in the section as there is with the "popular" phones. I don't think that it is the "STUPID rules" (as this is probably as good a section as any), but more that there are only a handful of people that hang out here, and irregularly at that. You asked a question that isn't one that most readers here have ever had to deal with, further reducing your chances of an immediate answer.
If you do intend to hang around XDA, I think it would help your reputation here to post how you resolved the problem, so that someone else in your situation can benefit from your knowledge.
Probably actually started working on following directions for the Galaxy S4 rather than directions for the Galaxy S 4G.
Thread has been reported (a while ago). Not sure why it has been moved yet.

I don't see where you said it was a Galaxy S 4G, but either way, here's what I know:
When you plug the phone into your PC, they folders that are missing on your old phone are not showing up because the phone is not unlocked (lockscreen). Android only allows file transfers over MTP if the phone is currently unlocked as a security measure.
There are two things I would try. First, if your lockscreen is a PIN code, you could try attaching a keyboard via USB-OTG and use it to unlock the phone by typing in the PIN and <Enter>. If you cannot do that, then I would recommend trying to boot into recovery using the hardware keys and use adb from there.
Good luck

Recovering data from a broken screen Moto X

Last week a friend of mine decided it was time for my Moto X to retire and unwillingly broke its screen by putting a weight on it at the gym. I would now like to retrive the data it contained (especially the photos) but it's not that simple, since my phone was pin-protected and it was completely stock. As of right now neither the touchscreen nor the display are working.
Any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks in advance.
For starters, hopefully the PCB didn't get damaged, also, for the people that know how to work with this phone better than I, what is the model of the phone, was the bootloader locked or unlocked, did you have a custom recovery onboard

Yeah, sorry for lacking details. My phone is the XT1052, and I have no custom recovery nor root on my phone. Plus the boot loader is locked.
I wanted to solve this myself, but maybe the guys over at Motorola's assistance could help me?

They would tell you to send it in if it's still under warranty and give you a replacement, no data retrieval. There was another thread recently from someone who had a similar issue. I'd read that to see where it went (not that long of a read). Its not entirely clear what happened to the user, though you can pm him/her to see if the feedback given actually worked. Here's the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/headless-mobo-data-retrieval-t3125471
Yeah, it is still under warranty, however I believe the one time free replacement policy is only available in the US.
As far as my problem is concerned is there any way to control the input of the phone via an external input? (Maybe connecting it to a computer?)

You could use an OTG cable with mouse/keyboard
With nothing at all on the screen, I would be very concerned the PCB is broken. Do you get any vibrations when attempting to power on and off? How about when you call it, does it ring?
I honestly haven't tried to call myself since my SIM card now lives on another phone. However the phone does vibrate when turning on.
Plus, when I discovered it was broken one small part of the screen (upper right corner) still showed battery percentage and network connectivity. Now even that part doesn't seem to be working.
When you connect the phone to the computer, is it recognized?
As far as I remember, you don't need the screen to work in order to unlock the bootloader via the Motorola website (if you can get your serial elsewhere or already signed in Moto Care). You could do that and use adb pull, granted you know what exact files you want to retrieve.
What do you want to retrieve exactly? If it's totally stock, chances are that things like contacts, calendar and etc were already cloud synced to your google account. (Or even pictures if you activated that)
The Moto X will not illuminate the screen if the AMOLED display layer is cracked. If the phone acts like it's working (vibrates on boot etc) then you probably just have a broken screen. Have you tried to turn it on and plug it in to a computer and just copy the data off? You could also replace the display if you're so inclined with a refurbished display assembly. I've seen them as low as $40 on ebay. Disassembly is not overly difficult if you have an appropriate heat source and a T3 torx screwdriver.

I honestly haven't tried to call myself since my SIM card now lives on another phone. However the phone does vibrate when turning on.

I just replaced a shattered screen on the wife's moto x last night. The screen still works but looks like hell. I was about to throw it out but you can have it if you promise to reimburse my shipping costs. I can even give you a few tips based on my experience following the ifixit guide online and I'll even send along the cheap (but good enough) t3 & t5 torx screwdrivers that came with it. Let me know.
Hi guys, I apologize not having been here for a while, but I have been out of town for the last couple days.

When I connect the phone to the computer it does get recognized in the sense that Windows does recognize it as a periferial and makes its annoying sound, but it then isn't accessible nor it does show up as an external device.
Is this enough to unlock its bootloader via Motorola's website?
Also, the phone regularly powers on and vibrates while booting on. I guess this should be a good sign.

I guess it is! However I genuiely don't know if the X is supposed to be detected by default or if you need to install the Motorola Drive. I guess you should give it a try! Try installing the Motorola Device Manager (available directly from the Moto website, just google it and it should be the first result), it comes with drivers for the Moto X. Plus you'll need it to unlock the bootloader.
The bootloader unlock is also quite easy. To be honest it was my first contact with the Android SDK (the Moto X being my first cellphone ) and I had no real problem apart setting the drivers and stuff (there is a very detailed step-by-step guide in the Moto X General section btw, very useful! The one provided by Motorola isn't bad neither).
You didn't say what exactly you wanted to get back by the way!
PS: I'd put the links if I could, but I can't atm because I didn't reach 10 messages yet. I think this is my tenth, so I'll try editing the post afterwards and see if it works.
Edit: it works!

Thank you once more! However, as of right now, I'm not sure whether my phone is functinal or not. Here's what I can tell you:
After I hold the power button down for a while the phone vibrates as if it was turning on. Then after about a minute or so it does vibrate again but with lower intensity, as if there where unread notifications on the phone (which could be possible).
However, neither my MacBook nor my Windows PC seem to recognize the phone. Any idea?
In order for the Macbook to recognize it you need to download an app called Android File Transfer. It is not in the App Store, however Google is the author. I use it pretty regularly and it is awesome!

Have you installed the Motorola device drivers? You said your phone was pin-protected. I tried connecting my phone to the PC and my phone would not enable the media device connection to the PC until I entered the pin. I don't know if the touchscreen remains functional even if the display underneath is broken, but you could try it.

Another option you could try is to unlock your bootloader, flash TWRP recovery, and boot into TWRP. I believe TWRP will present an adb interface and that should allow you to pull your files.
I just tried it out. I didn't even need to use adb, TWRP showed up as a portable device and I was able to simply drag and drop files off the device.
Sorry if I hadn't been detailed enough: in my previous attempts I already had the Motorola drivers installed, and I also tried with the Android File Transfer App but nothing has worked so far.

I guess unlocking the bootloader seems like my best option as of right now, however I thought unlocking the boot loader erased all the data from the phone which would mean I'd lose the photos I'm trying to recover if I did.

That... is true. You don't want to unlock the bootloader.
Final offer on shipping you my busted but functional screen I just replaced. I kinda like the idea of paying it forward to the xda community which has been so helpful to me in the past. No strings, just reimburse my shipping once you get it.
kGospel, I would take his offer. He is offering to send you the screen and then have you pay for it.
That may be your only option to save you files outside of paying out the yingyang for a new screen
