Is the RN7 the exact same size/layout as any other phone [case search] - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I am not happy with the current case offerings and want something much more heavy duty. What I have done before with other phones I have had is search for a phone that is almost identical as far as size and layout and just get a case for that phone.
Does anyone know if the layout and size of the Redmi Note 7 is almost identical to any other phones?

Sorry but why don't you just order a case specifically designed for RN7? I can find lots of these cases in my country's online stores. Most if not all of them are made in China though.
It's not recommended to use other phones' cases for your RN7 as they may seem fit the phone but how about buttons and holes? :silly:

That was the question; as long as the buttons and stuff match up. All of the cases I found for the RN7 are either a really lightweight metal or just a thin plastic. I am looking for something that's a heavy metal with an actual thick glass as a cover. Something like this;

There are a lot of these from china cheap, but not for the RN7 yet. I have this for my Note 4. It does add 3x the weight and increase the size, but its very well protected.

Well, that case is kinda hardcore and expensive. I'm using cheap ones (3-4 USD) for RN7 and RN4X like these.

They're cheap but sturdy enough and have saved my phones on many occasions when I tripped while jogging and when phones fell from pockets.
Sorry I can't help with your question. May someone else help you. :fingers-crossed:

Need a nice leather pouch case - 8525 ?

Is it safe to assume that an 8525 case will fit the Tilt the same ?
I'm looking for a pouch-type case.
Thanks,
DLD
I have alot of experience with Gizmoskin.com i have had 4 of their cases for different phones.
I got the treo 750 case, which is within a mm on each side.
its awesome. I love their cases, secure, slim and ratcheting clip - the leather is TOP quality.
there is a little play at at the top of the case as far as fit, but it doesn't bother me and there is no worry of the phone falling out or anything, but it has some freedom to shift in the case.
FYI, the standard shipping is REALLY slow - to florida it can take like a good 2 weeks, cause they ship from canada. On the other hand, with overnight, ordered on thurs, shipped friday, at my house monday before 9 am. Pricey, but, it was there.
Good Luck!
fyi, with the case set horizontally, the phone feels like it weighs nothing. I wear alot of gym/ basketball shorts that have no strong waist support and it does not pull it out at all. i'm super happy.

Thread moved to Kaiser accessories.
nobody knows if the 8525 cases fit the kaiser properly ?
dld
It fits, but the TYTN2 is smaller. I use a SP6 Pouch Case and its fine.
I'm using a leather pouch case with a strong, rotating, belt clip I got at Best Buy that is intended for the Treo 650. Since the 650 is no longer available the case was reduced from $29.99 to $8.99 and it's a perfect fit.
yes, it fits. I'm using my TyTN case with my Kaiser (Tilt). the Kaiser is a bit narrower so not as tight a fit but it works.
I am also looking for a horizontal case with a belt clip for the Kaiser. Most of what I have seen so far are generics that fit 'most devices'.

Body actually thinner than 11mm?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if the device body is actually even thinner than 11mm. Why? Because the size is usually measured by the thickest part of the device, which in this case is the popping out camera. Think I already mentioned that somewhere...or maybe in another forum, never mind.
You can clearly see on the "Specification" part at the HTC website (picture of side of device) that the camera is the popping out. Just zoom in the picture.
What I just saw and what strenghtens my thought: The website includes the camera in the 11mm! So the "body" could be 10mm or even less.
Here is a zoomed in picture of what I mean. It's from HTC's website, I just added the red line. What do you think?
I'm also wondering why nobody actualy measured the size in any of those previews...

As mentioned somewhere else......it´s not so much the size, that matters....it´s the performance......

(Yeah, saw that ^^)
Yeah, with emphasis on "so much" ^^
If that device was 18mm thick nobody would've be that much interested. Even with 14mm it would still be unattractive because of its total size.
And even now, people are wondering if the device isn't too big for them. Making it even thinner could resolve those manners.
And maybe there are more people like me who try to imagine what it could feel like to hold that device in the hand, maybe also with building a paper model of it ^^ So 1-2mm thinner device feels a lot more comfortable =)
AND almost every preview compares the thickness, so it IS somehow important. ^^
Agree with Kabakara,
I already built a model from paper
gotta love the thin slim look... I wouldn't have gone HD2 if it was 14mm or thicker..

Dust under back of frosted glass - Yet another QC error.

After being happy for a few days with my second Z5 (First one had backlight uneveness, changed out next day), I stumbled upon yet another QC error by Sony. This time around there is dust stuck beneath the frosted glass. Now you might say "Oh it's just a scratch!" I looked at it from multiple angles, under bright light and also with an electronic microscope. There are no indentations to the surface, which leaves me just as baffled as most of you on how this happened . This is a REV4 model, everything else works wonderfully though, barely any camera fringing and no uneven backlight, haven't tested water proofness yet, but that wasn't important to me. Needless to say I'll be exchanging it tomorrow because the shops that have it in stock have closed for the night.
So just a warning on another thing to look out after buying your new Xperia Z5!
Why do you do this to us Sony, we only want your products :crying:.
PS: Here's the unresized images if you want to peep: Image 1, Image 2.
You bought it that way for sure. This ''thing'' can not go almost to the middle of the phone by itself.Just one more thing that we need to look closer before buying. And Sony is not doing this intentionally, bro. ( : Just bad luck.
No disrespect intended but the absolute last thing I am worried about is a piece of dust under the back glass. In my opinion, trivial.
return it. if you're spending $400+ usd on a phone it should be pretty darn near perfect.

See I fully agree it is trivial. But the fact that is there will drive me crazy. Considering cheaper phone manufacturers can deliver better QC, I expect cream of the crop from Sony. Call me picky or pedantic, but for a price of the phone there is no excuse.

How's the rear camera housing holding up to scratches/chips?

I'm looking to purchase a OnePlus 5. And in my research I've discovered that its pretty common knowledge that all OnePlus 5's come with a "scratch" in the top center of the camera housing and that this is meant for the NFC Antenna. However, some have commented about the black paint on their OnePlus 5's rear camera housing chipping/scratching easily in other areas. Some even mentioned that their camera housing was severely scratched up, right out of the box.
Take this instance, for example:

I plan on using a case, either way. But I am curious to get a better idea from current OnePlus 5 owners to see how many people have additional paint chipping issues.
1. He needs a manicure
2. Use a case
3. Find a new job that doesnt involve using your phone as a sanding block.
If you go bare back its bound to get raw.

Yeah, that dude's hands are pretty messed up.
I've always been a case/screen protector person. My concern is that people in the above linked thread and a couple other threads on the OnePlus forums are reporting their camera housing gettings chipped up, even with a case. It seems that the black coating on the camera housing is poorly applied and is extremely easy to damage.
I simply created this poll to get an idea of the average percentage of OP5 owners on this thread that have experienced this issue, in relation to the total number of votes received.
The poll is getting votes but no comments, so I'm bumping this thread to keep it near the top to accrue more data.
Mine has this problem out of the box and it's getting worse. 6gb / 64gb version. I bought it at launch
The edge of the rear camera paint has scratched off and it's only been on a soft wooden table
Mine has been in a case since day one so zero scratches

Waterproof case

Has anyone been able to find a Waterproof case for the Tab S7? I have been searching everywhere and cant find one. I really dont want to put the whole thing in a waterproof "bag" type case but i will if I have to. I would think they would have them out by now.
Thanks,
Well I think water proof bag might be the only choice for devices like this. Model-specific water-proof case for phones is kind of niche, and even more so for tablets, let alone an Android tablet... Bag should work fine for occasional use just not as convenient or elegant

Never count on a device or case to be waterproof unless designed for diving. Even then you need to keep an eye on it.
Yeah I knew it would be slim pickings. It would never be submerged and its mostly for heavy rain/dust (Mounting in a Polaris RZR) for navigation and music.
I was hoping there would be one for a flagship device.
We've got a heat sealer at work so I just heat sealed some polypro bags to the right size to try out this weekend. HOpefully someone comes out with one but I have what seems to be a decent bump case on it for now.
