Taking photos with voice command no longer takes photos automatically (timer) - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Seems an update to the camera app has caused the timer feature for selfies and the auto snap feature for the camera to stop working. Probably one of the best one handed (squeeze) or no handed feature and now it's broken. We should upvote to bring attention to the thread.

Looks like they added it again with the Pixel 4 camera app. Downloaded the leaked APK, gave it a try, and worked.

g3 camera has very littles camera modes and options

got the g3 yesterday and i have the g2, looking at the g3 camera ui and settings and options. there are very little to none, the g2 camera had more options and modes. i feel like they didnt even try for the camera. theres only 4 modes, dual, panorama, magic focus, and auto... if u count that.
what happen to all the other shooting modes like night, beauty shot, shot & clear, they didnt even add filters.
i hate when companys make a upgraded product but they remove other features from the last.

Sorry... But have you been under a rock? This was a well-known "feature" about the camera. Pretty much EVERY review mentions it.

i did not look at much reviews, just seen a few unboxing. the camera isnt really a problem just dont get why they wouldnt add them features.
ill probably end up using a 3rd party camera app if really needed.

Yeah, that's what most people seem to be doing that want more manual features. Google camera seems to be a popular one.

The best app by far which has access to all manual controls is 'A Better Camera'.
Google Camera is fine but like the G3's default camera app has little in the way of control.

So what is exactly your complain about? Are you aware that when LG device rings home and sends statistics of its usage then LG engineers could look into it and see what is the most used features of their product. And they can clearly see that very minority of people do make shots with dual camera, filters and all other fancy settings, instead most people just POINT and SHOOT. So why bother. Why spend precious engineers' stuff time to optimize features that will sit in the corner forever unused when LG needs to update ROMs for old devices and programmers are in need?
And for those who needs more tweaks and filters in camera settings there already plenty of 3rd party camera apps in GPlay

As mentioned above, there are a myriad of different third party camera apps for those that want something more in depth. I'm glad LG spent more time on things like ergonomics and the skin rather than the camera.

I love how minimal the camera app is it truly is point and shoot which is what a phone camera should be, if you want to go deeper than that a phone camera is not what you're looking for
LG wanted to go minimal on this whole device, the whole new UI reflects minimal and that includes the camera.

Honestly, I can understand the OP's disappointment. You won't find shooting modes like the ones he listed on a DSLR camera, but you'll find it in a regular 'ole point and shoot. And since these were available in the previous version, one might expect to find it in the new version.
But again, this is the beauty of android. Download a camera application that has what you want! There are very few limitations, which is why most of us love android powered devices.

The whole reason why there is no more night mode, I think, is because there was "intelligent Auto" mode in G2 and now its gone, too. But now IA is THE default mode of camera instead of optional while being in G2, so the camera sets itself to HDR, or night mode when appropriate based on the measured exposures and lighting conditions and dynamic range of frame
Beauty shot is probably included in frontal camera in auto mode, too.
Didn't you do any research before getting the phone ? Because the simple . Camera ui shouldn't be a surprise at this point

I also agree that the camera is too basic, in a good way. However, manual exposure compensation needs to be available in every camera app.

not much just loved the g2 because of its ui and where the buttons are placed. its much better ui then the sluggish touch wiz on galaxy phones.
Somehow my touch to shoot has been turned off, i have to hit the shutter button now. Anyone know how to get it back to where i just touch the screen so it will focus and shoot?
Edit..
My bad, should have searched. Answer is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...amera: Tap to focus and snap no longer works
LG made this camera for idiots who only point and take photo
Samsung so far has the best camera software, other brands should learn from the master how to do good camera app.

I'm interested in manual setting for the camera apps. Anyone tried proshot on their 6p? How is it? any problems? limitation?
What camera apps are you using?
Thanks

Hi! I'm the dev of ProShot. Feel free to ask any questions
To answer yours:
1) No limitations (except for exposure compensation, Google sadly removed that from the Nexus line earlier this year)
2) Working on a bug fix for the upside-down-oriented image sensor. Hope to have that live by the end of the day
I've been using it since it was featured on phonearena. Its a nice full featured app. I just don't think the 6p camera has lived up to the hype for me.

i downloaded the demo, looks pretty neat. Much more easier to use than Manual Camera. Planning to buy soon!
Hi,
Is there a way to lock the white balance and the focus? Cause I found a little bit annoying when the app is changing the WB all the time during the capturing process.
Thanks!
I have it, but wish there was HDR. Without it I don't use it since it makes a big difference.
No, HDR on Proshot?
Well I hope not.
Leave HDR and any such post processing for Lightroom,CaptureOne,Darktable,Aftershot, (maybe even the not-so-optimal Photoshop) etc... the source file for those programs should be as clean as possible second to the data that went out from the camera sensor. Thats the whole point of any RAW format, that it leaves room for more post processing.
If you need to do instant HDR within there are plenty of apps that does all the "cooking" into a fine ready-to-go JPEG.
Anyway, would be nice to se a sale campaign on this, I just fell on this thread accidentally.
how to quick reset?

A better camera app?

First day with this fabulous device. Came from Note 7. The only disappointment so far is the camera, especially low light. I'm wondering if it's just the app itself. I downloaded LIGHTROOM and I'm getting better results but has anyone found another camera app that works well?

"A Better Camera" seems to take better quality pictures in low light (just testing it at my desk). It crashes on setting image size in the setting though (but not from the in app menu).
However, it's video function doesn't let you set resolution/rate and such like the built in app.

1) As a general point, low light photography is the weak point of the Axon 7 camera
2) You can try open camera. I have had good results. It is a free open source app
One thing i found just by mistake, was if you tap on where you would like to focus in low light conditions it will turn on nightmode and give slightly better picture.

Yes, Google camera works great... Not any improvement in quality, but works great. Not like it did on the Nexus 6P (not able to swipe to change from camera to video, have to use swipe-out menu).
If you have the ZTE camera open, then try to open Google camera (or any other), you'll get an error the camera is in use by another app.

You should be able to extract it from any of the stock system partition images -- either direct from ZTE's files or from DrakenFX TWRP backup versions.

The default camera app already has the best options for low light. It's just a trade-off between shutter speed and grain. You can use SUPER NIGHT mode or ISO100 mode in manual to get less grain but you have to hold still to avoid blur. SUPER NIGHT seems to make a composite to reduce blur though.
Any sample shots using super night mode?
Zte is not using the CameraApi2 so you won't get the same quality with a 3rd party camera app.
I've personally found that HDR works quite well in low light, sometimes making the shot look brighter than real life. The only annoying part is keeping the phone steady to avoid blur.

Surround Shot on Note 9?

I was using surround shot on my N8. Anybody know if they got it to work on the N9 and if so would they mind sharing the APK?

Maybe but I prefer to use the main app. I was using this on the N8. I don't know what I did with the APKs. Picture in picture and surround shot were two really useful features on my camera.
If anyone has it, please share!
Yes I also miss it.
I guess Samsung is trying to force people into buying the 360 cameras.
But that is a bulky separate device to carry around. I just wanna take the occasional surround shot when I see an unexpected opportunity, like I did with my Note 5, Galaxy S7, and, I believe also Galaxy S6 before that.
That is much more spontaneous, natural and fun than walking around with a 360 camera in hand trying to find an interesting spot.
I have the apks for both pip and surround shot. They do not appear in the camera app or app drawer.
I can shortcut to the apps but they do not open. I have been messing around with them but no luck so far.

OnePlus 6T Camera Application vs. Pixel Camera Application

I can 100% say it makes a difference. I'll try it out when it gets dark later but just a quick office shot of my Rockstar can and I can easily see the difference. The OnePlus 6T camera application makes the can "pop" more but it loses detail in the process. The GCam (Pixel) camera application makes it much more natural looking and restoring detail. Only con is it shoots 4K at 30 FPS so I'll toggle back to stock software for 4K 60 FPS.
I highly recommend it. It's posted elsewhere but for those who don't snoop around the threads...

Just wait till @Arnova8G2 adds the ability to control the jpg quality. I have a feeling this is just scratching the surface in terms of image quality. The OnePlus camera software makes images look oily up close. Severe detail loss. Google Camera pretty much reproduces what you see in the viewfinder. OnePlus needs to stop compressing the images so much. These phones have enough space for 100% quality .jpgs.

We're not talking sometimes. We're talking every single time I try to take a photo, it crashes right after I press the shutter button. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still the same. Even if it's just a matter of clearing the cache every so often, that's way more work than necessary for a camera to work that should "just be there". If I'm going to have to fuss about, I'll just take out my real camera and set it to full manual. It will still be faster and better. Until the app is stable, I see no point in using it. I'm not getting paid to beta test. (I do get paid to test new development software though.)

Not really sure, I've only used it a handful of times. I normally use my Pixel 3 XL for pictures. I've had my unlocked OnePlus version for four days and besides the photos I tested the portrait mode on that have been deleted I have four pictures in my gallery...lol
I will say this about 9.0.5, screen unlock is now almost instantaneous. The fingerprint reader is now as fast as a hardware one.

Here is a comparison of night modes on stock and pixel camera app on OP6T. the first photo is the pixel camera app and the second one is the stock OnePlus camera app. The stock camera app seems to really wash out the colors. I can definitely say that with my own eyes the Google pixel camera app took a much more true to life image of what I'm seeing out my window.

Yes I agree also abit more detail
I have been using gcam and it looks so much better, and of course that night mode is magical!
I still think a lot if detail is being left out as the file sizes are way too small compared to using past gcams with the 6p or even the other devices using the higher file size options/details that were in advanced options in the previous gcam ports. It's especially showing once you zoom in on the pics.

Why the difference in crop?
Still waiting for a version of GCAM that doesn't break in some way. So far, I'm not impressed with the 6T's camera. Tried taking a shot this morning that's a cakewalk for my LG V30 and the 6T just couldn't pull it off. Ended up having to get out my real camera to get the photo.

Well, so far the evidence is quite to the contrary. The V30 can nail the shot every single time, the 6T couldn't nail it even once. Not once. Something tells me you all need to do some wider ranging testing.
