ATOTO A6 2710SB No USB connection to Computer - Android Head-Units

I have tried searching the forums but have been unable to find anything that seems related to this issue. I have purchased an ATOTO A6 Android Head unit for my car. I have read a thread on here of successful rooting for prior versions (being able to connect via the USB "quick charge cable"). Seems as though just recently (Feb 2019) the company has managed to somehow lock out the ability to connect the head unit to a computer. It is equipped with 3 USB ports, one on the front face, one on the back, and one that is a wire "quick charge" cable. All are USB A connectors and all seem to work as OTG capable (have been able to get thumb drives, etc... to work). When connection with the computer (through USB A to USB A cable) there is no reaction from the computer or the head unit. I have emailed the company and that reply is below.
My ultimate question is, would there be any possible way to get to where this setting is to open up the USB ports for computer connection? I have not heard of this situation in the past. Thank you for any information a head of time.
Company E-Mail Reply
"The ATOTO A6 is not like a smartphone, it can not work with computer."

I have same issue... Any resolution?

So if I downgrade I can get it to recognize on a PC? I’m Kinda a noob to the android world. How will the test keys help? When I wrote ATOTO they said the head unit is programmed/ built like an android computer, thus the reason why PC’s don’t recognize it. Was that a deterrent response? I told them it would be beneficial to add that function back and they said they talked to there tech team and are considering it to make it more user friendly. Thank you for response!

Well, the OP says so. IDK, I don't have the device. ATOTO could have disabled connections number of ways...
If test keys have been used, modifying the update.zips or making of your own, if you like, is possible without custom recovery, etc.

I wish I knew how to modify the update.zip or make my own. Being new to the android scene I’m trying to decipher everything still. I know codes written with Linux. I guess I need to do some more research or keep asking around. I appreciate the insight and your time. Thank you

USB data input use on a non USB Host smartphone

Hy everyone,
First of all, thanks for this great forum which never fails to impress me.
I have a question which some of you might help answering: I'm wondering if it's possible to use the mini-usb port of my smartphone to get some data input.
Let me explain myself a bit more: I know that smartphones (HTC Touch for me) aren't USB hosts. However, the data connexions are still present.
Here's what I'd like to do: even though the smartphone can't control another peripheral, I'd like that external peripheral to send data to the smartphone, and the smartphone to use that data to control the screen. That would give an alternative way of controlling the screen.
The input would come from another touch surface, so my guess is that using the data to control the screen shouldn't be much of a problem.
So? Any idea if it's possible? What kind of platform/language would be nice to do that? C#?
(I have JAVA development experience, but I'm quite a newbie as far as Win Mobile devs are concerned. I'm willing to learn though
I think I searched this forum (and others) quite extensively before posting. If by any chance I missed a related post, I'd be glad to know about it
No ideas? Anyone?
Last up before I stop...
prob. not
i dont think that is technically possible. i think one has to be the host, and that host provides power. so to power the input device(im thinking keyboard) it would need the smartphone/ppc to be a host....
but i have no clue in this area...maybe someone could prove me wrong?
Hey, thanks for your answer.
The powering issues could be overcomed by cutting the cables and giving power from an external power source (I think several people have tried doing it, I need to find the links again). By the way, the peripheral itself is plugged on 110V, so there's plenty of available power
I'm not seeking here to "control" the device, just to aquire the signal it's sending... Does that seem feasible, or does the peripheral need to be somehow "activated" by a Host before sending anything?
Well, in order to get data, the host must ask the slave each time it needs some. Other things must be done by the host, like usb enumeration. That means there has to be a host or it won't work, unless you use usb on-the-go, but I do not know many devices that support it.
according to the qualcomm website, the msm chipsets support otg

Is the USB master? Can I connect external HDD etc?

I wonder if the USB on the Nexus One allows me to connect an external hard drive. I'm only talking about data transmission with externally powered USB-devices. The N1 doesn't need to power USB-devices for me to be satisfied.
And if not: could the deficiency possibly be mended software-wise, or is it a limitation of the hardware itself?
Thanks beforehand!
no it cannot be the host. Read this on a google forum, someone posted the link as an answer to a similar question yesterday.
Thank you for your answer, britoso!
But oh, what a pitty!!!
Can't it possibly be fixed by booting with another software driver or something?
What's the point of removing this ability? It seems completely ridiculous. It gains nothing at all to "un-specify" USB host capability:
"Now, I have my files on this USB memory stick and here's the Nexus One. Oh, what's the use. Google didn't care at all about this kind of scenaria..."
Well, let's see what can be done with bulky wireless adapters and stuff like that then, to mend this unnecessary fail of the N1... I probably need to use a PC running Windows and a cable internet in order to have any use at all of the N1. Was this the purpose of this deliberate design "feature"?!?
this feature was not removed, but simply never implemented into the Android OS (afaik). if USB was host that means anything connected to it would have to draw power from the Nexus One's battery. Im sure HTC does not want this, because some things connected to USB can put incredible stress on a battery.
I thought the inability was due to a USB design that will allow charging, but doesn't allow hosting.
(at least that what I gathered about the n900 and why it couldn't act as a host.)
edit: nevermind nokia opted to skip on the go support to get the product out faster.
I don't know if there's a hardware limitation in place, but even if there isn't, the software does not support it.
There's an app for the n900 to add host support in the maemo repository. Don't know if it works though. I've always thought host support was due to the software.

E-257AGNR Android 4.1 Double DIN Head Unit

Some of the other threads have become quite a mess. I want to start this one, pertaining specifically to this device.
Here is a link to the device on AliExpress:
aliexpress[dot]om/item/2-din-Android-4-1-car-pc-built-in-car-DVD-GPS-Wifi-Bluetooth-Dual-core/1505304660.html[/url]
These are the specs listed:
1.OS: Android 4.1.1 system
2.CPU: Dual Core 1GHz (whatever that means)
3.Memory: 1GB DDR3
4.Nand Flash :8GB
5.USB 2.0 OTG,HOST interface
I purchased this device today, and will update this thread upon it's arrival. I plan on installing it in my 2004 STI and running TorquePro gauges through a USB ELM257 OBDII cable I already own.
I purchased this device because it's apparently dual core and relatively cheap. I also like the button layout on this unit more than any of the other ones. In the description it claims to have a capacitive touch screen and OBD support built in.
Love to know how this works out for ya!
It''s the same as the unit I have - meaning hardware and software, just a different face
Looking at the listing, I think they have the wrong pictures as the buttons are slightly different compared to the one Peter Chan showed me, but we will see when your unit arrives.
This is the thread with relevant information, I agree that other threads are a mess so I have tried to keep the main post updated with important information. There is also a Wiki page.

KID52, I really impressed with your knowledge and understanding this products in good details. Thanks for all your sharing and input, its really useful for me in helping to make decision on which product and which shops to purchase, as i have been looking around for few days.
Back to this topic by mcskeezy, have you received the unit yet? i am also inquiring with the seller "EDO on the same product, because same reason as yours, i prefer the buttons layout, i am right hand driver country.
i am actually asking seller to send me a real picture thru chat in aliexpress, the seller is really helpful, and provided many details. So far the details seem like the unit is like the Peter Chan unit, except the face is different like KID52 mentioned. I ask seller is this unit rootable, he mentioned YES. KID52 - would u be able to comment this can be rooted as well?
I attached here the the real picture the seller just send me :

I would interested to know what the seller's instructions are for rooting it though. Perhaps you can ask them for how to root it?

yes, i have ask the seller to provide, he said he will send me the procedure via email after checking with his engineer, he is not familier but he know it can be done. i will share in this forum once i received the procedure.
I found some unit having a slightly different CPU. Could you comment on this : ?
Freescale MX535D vs CPU MST786
Both are having Dual Core Cortex A9
---------- Post added at 03:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------
More details.. i have been chatting with the seller, again i like to mentioned this seller is very responsive and helpful, answer all my specific questions in great details. Though he is from China Mandarin speaking native, but responses in English is clear and concise.
The back of the unit actually has 2 Female USB, so you could potentially connect a WIFI and 3G dongle at the same time, no USB hub needed.
He will provide root procedure once he has it from his engineer. I have not even order this unit yet !, that why i mentioned he is very helpful.
He even recorded a video in real time and send it to me, i am sharing this video in attachment.
He mentioned majority of these units are having same hardware and software, the variations are at the panel or face plate, so that why we see many different panel or face plate around. But underlying hardware, software, are from same manufacturer.
So i believe i might be pulling the trigger very soon on this unit. In my opinion the video is excellent, i mean the unit. As good as the perter chan video posting.
I think i could not attach video, its 200 MB big. oh this forum even prevented me to provide a link here

The Freescale MX535D came with the older 2.3 units, I think the sellers just did not update the listing. Some listings also state 1.2GHz instead of 1GHz, but really they all seem to come with 1GHz CPUs. Again, pretty much all of this has been discussed in the thread I linked to. It seems fairly pointless having this thread when the hardware and software is the same, just the face is different.
It's odd that unit has 2 USB ports on the rear, I would be interested to know where they are connected to, I thought maybe it didn't have the one on the front, but it does. I've opened up my unit, but cannot see where another USB port would connect to directly.
You can upload the video to YouTube.

Unit Received
The unit came in the mail today. I've only had time to unbox it, hook it up to a spare 12V adapter I had lying around and test it out.
The touchscreen is miles beyond the previous model I ordered. It is easily on par with any generic tablet/phone. I've included some photos. The unit backplate does have two female USB ports (on cable extenders). One is labeled "USB" while the other is labeled "3G/WIFI". I'm looking forward to getting more acquainted with this thing once I have some free time.
I accidentally deleted the stock button mappings and then did a factory reset. The normal bluetooth settings are not visible as of yet. Once I've got it rooted I'll be trying to run gauges through Torque pro using either a bluetooth or a wired ELM257 OBDII adapter. I'm leaning more towards the wired version as those bluetooth adapters draw a fair bit of power while the car is off. I've attached some photos.
If anybody had a screenshot of the default button maps on this thing I"d appreciate it.

Unit works with USB OBDII ELM357 Adapter
So I went ahead and tried the most obvious thing:
1. Installed Torque Pro from the Play store.
2. Plugged in my OBDII adapter to the back USB port on the unit.
3. Set the max baud rate in torque.
4. Voila, unit recognizes the adapter w/o any problems. Shows RMPs, boost, coolant temp, etc.
Attached are a few more pictures... I'll post a link the the OBDII adapter I used. I would highly recommend this method over using a Bluetooth OBDII adapter, much less hassle.
Unfortunately, I had planned on using Subsonic Music streamer to stream my music from my desktop (over wifi tethering to my phone), but it says in the app store that the App is not supported on this device. Not sure why...

One way to tell would be to compare the output of the System Info app, instructions below. In fact, the part about a picture of the homescreen would also be relevant if possible.

Also, for completeness, a log from the System Info app if you can (need to download from market, it is free). You can do that by clicking on System, menu, then export system info.
On top of that, if it's not too much trouble, a photo/screenshot of the default homescreen. I am curious to know if different sellers customize this at all. Roadmaster claim to do so, but so far I have only seen two different styles of homescreens. One that has four large buttons per page, which is present in the older system versions, and the newer one that is a bit more standard having four app icons at the bottom (which cannot be changed), and the rest of the screen left for your own widgets and icons.

This is the same thing with a lot of Chinese headunits. The issue is that the device's fingerprint is not officially supported by Google Play. So, there will be various filters, like Copy Protection, that prevent you to install or even list certain programs from Google Play directly. The easiest way around this is to use another Android Phone or Tablet and to download and install the APK to it then copy it over manually to the head unit to install it. You can use a program like ES File Explorer to click on the APK's icon to initiate the install.
Otherwise, if you do not have another Android device then you'll need to use a combination of Market Helper and AppBrain in order to find and install apps from Google Play. It is sort of a hack but it works.

I am wondering how you power up the unit at home, i wanted to try in out at home but i don't have a computer PSU lying around, would it be safe to use a AC/DC adapter to power the head unit up? if i could power this toy up, i will confirm the system info right away, and would be able to bring this unit discussion to your another tread, just need to confirm its a same system but different face unit, i can see the rear of the unit is also another different with an additional USB female.
Still searching on good way to power this unit up without the PSU or battery method.

Can someone with 1024x600 RK3188 Joying try backing up and uploading mirroring app?

Had to do a factory reset on my headunit because it wouldn't boot. After factory reset the mirroring app is gone. Contacted support and they let me know once it has been reset, it's too late. Can someone try backing the app up to an APK and uploading to see if I can use it?

The mirror app has not gone (only the shortcut from jeg desktop has gone) you just have to install it again from the OEM icon on the units desktop. Select the OEM icon, select APK and find the Easyconnect app in the listing. Push it to install it.

W.... Wow. I contacted the customer support and they said "Once the unit has been factory reset you will not be able to use the connect function anymore"
Thank you, gentleman and scholar! It does not want to see to want to connect to my phone but I'll chalk that up to the program being buggy and needing a different USB cable.

FWIW, the EasyConnected app doesn't work with iOS 9 AirPlay mirroring (same as most other third party mirroring apps).
If you are looking for an alternative, Splashtop's Mirroring 360 works well for me on my Joying HU.

Yes it is, and it is working:good:
Can you confirm either installing from the OEM folder, or the download worked? I want to install malaysk ROM, but I have the same issue, need the mirroring, and now joying have also responded "fac reset will erase license and you only get 1". I really dont get this approach, they shpuld give better info, but anyway, hoping you had an update on this.
Also, how well does it work overall? I am just getting started, so any heads up would be great.
I had the Easy Connect app working fine with my phone prior to installing Malaysk's ROM. After reinstalling Easy Connect, I had my phone connect once, then the HU told me that the cable was bad, and now I cannot connect at all (Keep getting 0x11 error).
Any suggestions on how to make it work again?
I can now state that installing Malaysk's ROM and reinstalling Easy Connect does work*. I am pleased to say that I have used the screen mirroring to my satisfaction. (But, I cannot say what happened to get it to work, it just kind of happened).
Unfortunately, the phone initially goes into "Drive Mode" which, aside from being annoying, does not allow use of the Head Unit's screen. So, I must fiddle with my phone even longer in order to get out of that mode so I can use the mirroring correctly.
I also have not found a good way to force the phone to be in landscape mode. The one app I found that put it into that mode correctly had issues that interfered with other phone features to such an extent that I decided removing the app was my best option.
*This assumes the phone and Head Unit paired in the first place. My first Head Unit (Single Core) would never pair at all (before or after root).
My phone (HTC M8) just updated to the latest ROM (Marshmallow, maybe), and now Easy Connected does not work. It goes through all the motions, but the Head Until stays dark. Hopefully something changes soon.

USB Synchronous and Asynchronous

Hi,
I am having a hard time trying to get a couple of USB devices to work properly on my headunit. One is a USB CarPlay dongle, and the other is an OTA tv tuner. Both USB devices get recognized by the headunit, however in the case of the first, it never gets passed a connection state where the dongle starts talking to the application. In case of the second, the OTA never finds TV stations after doing a complete scan.
USB devices like keyboards, mice, USB flash drives, even a webcam work fine. I contacted the manufacturer and they said they only support USB synchronous which may be the reason these devices can't work properly.
The unit is an Eonon GA7157 with the Allwinner R16 1.6GHz Cortex A7 Quad-Core CPU.
Questions:
Is it possible this is a valid claim?
My unit is rooted, can USB asynchronous be enabled via software?
I was also thinking this could be an OTG wiring issue, what do you think? I say so because the only way I could get the CarPlay dongle to work on my Samsung Tablet A, was with an OTG cable. A straight connector presented the same symptoms.
I am not too experienced with Android, so please be gentle
He was feeding you a load of horse manure.
Either that, or he meant something entirely different by "USB synchronous".
Precisely what do you mean by "get recognized by the headunit"?
What exactly *are* these two devices you are trying to use?
What *drivers* do they use?
Have you confirmed that the kernel is enumerating the devices?
Have you confirmed that the kernel is binding the proper drivers to them?
Have you confirmed that Android knows how to deal with the interfaces that the drivers are providing for these devices?
Have you confirmed that the interface permissions are such that a user application will be able to access it?
An OTG cable does two things;
1) It reverses the gender of the connector,
2) It sends a signal to the phone/tablet/whatever that it should switch its USB port from slave mode to host mode.
Nothing else.
Thanks for the tips. By recognize I mean that Android prompts me to confirm opening the accompanying apps when I plug in these devices to the USB port. E.g. I plug in the CarPlay dongle, Android prompts: do you want use Zbox (App) every time you use this device (Cancel or OK); I press OK and then the App stays in trying to connect mode forever.
The manufacturer has locked down USB debugging. Do you know of any apps (rooted or not) that will give me the information you pointed out?
thanks
It is unlikely that USB debugging is "locked down". More likely, its just because your USB device port is stuck perpetually in "host" mode on the wrong side of a USB hub, and therefore you can't connect to it. Try connecting to adb over IP instead.
I've never heard of any USB device on Android causing any kind of popup. That is very strange. Is it possible that the popup is being created by the program, i.e. "zbox"? Its possible that the system is sending a broadcast upon device enumeration, but the device access permissions are either wrong, or the kernel doesn't have the proper driver available.

Thanks again. I am including some pictures that may help explain the problem a little better. As far as the passcode, from what I can tell this unit has 3. One for the Advanced Car Settings, Developer Settings, and USB Debugging. The first 2 I found on another forum and are 123456 and the other 7890. The USB Debugging is an alphanumeric string which I haven't found anywhere, and the manufacturer refuses to release it. When I toggle the USB debugging on, I get prompted to input the passcode. I have tried a few codes but no go, the USB debugging switch goes back to the off position.
The other pictures show the USB port capabilities of the headunit. The unit has 3 USB ports: one is taken by the WiFi module, the other by a dashcam, and the remaining one is open and where I plugged in the CarPlay dongle. There is also another picture of the USB CarPlay dongle device plugged in and listed as Mass Storage Gadget. The dongle does have internal storage of a few MBs.
Finally, I include a picture of the application Zbox. This is the latest version and it starts automatically when I plug in the USB CarPlay dongle.
Well, I made some progress with the password for the USB debugging switch. To summarize:
Car Settings: 123456
Developer Options: 7890
USB Debugging: [email protected]
Now I just need to figure out how to make the USB port work properly. Any ideas? I have USB debugging access and the device is rooted.
Well according to your second-last picture, the device is being detected as UMS (Usb Mass Storage). I.e., like a usb flash disk.
VIDID of 0x0525:0xA4A5 looks to be an e-ink tablet called "Pocketbook Pro 903".
The problem may be that your "carplay dongle" is masquerading as something it isn't.
Well, the VIDID could be the problem; however, this same CarPlay dongle works fine on 2 other Android devices; moreover, a USB OTA tuner behaves the same way, meaning it does not work on the headunit but does on remix and a tablet.
Well guys, this unit is going back to the seller. After playing with it and not getting anywhere with customization and customer service, it’s out the door.
I am getting an xtron octacore px5 unit. It looks like these head units have better developer support.
Do you have the English version of 3.0 you can post?

My new Xtrons recognizes the Zbox dongle very quickly. I think it is now as quick as some of the dedicated Alpine and Pioneer units.
As far as software, crisper icons and bypassing the connection window would be nice option. It should only display when a problem occurs. One thing that is flimsy is the USB connector but no software upgrade will fix it. I am considering opening it up and soldering a better connector. Also, heat dissipation is an issue. It needs a heatsink. I may just add one when I crack it open.
I am looking forward to the next iteration with wireless CarPlay. Someday.

Yea the update definitely enhanced it a lot. I used to have a pioneer and it feels close to the same now.
