How to update unlocked at&t to pie outside the us - LG V35 Questions & Answers

Title says it all
I got an at&t unlocked v35 on android 8.0
I've read the way to go is to use the LG up software and flash a pie kdz, but there is currently one thread about the same matter, and the guy seems to have soft bricked his phone
What steps should i take?
Any kdz in specific i need to flash?

If it were me I'd flash over to Google Fi 8.0, and then it's a simple upgrade through LGUP to Google Fi Pie. Of course back up your data and such before first flash. Everything should be golden.

My phone model is LM-V350AWM, can i just flash any google fi 8.0 firmware?
Also, can i perform an lg backup and then restore it after the flashing process?

Are you in the US? If so then you should be able to flash pretty much any of them. I have flashed Google Fi, Amazon, as well as US unlocked version. Yes you can backup with LG. I used Air Drive. Worked flawlessly for me.
Use this version of LGUP found here:
https://www.lanzous.com/i3y5ocd

I also flashed the Korean variant, and all worked well but you probably don't need to do that unless you are in Korea. I guess.

I live in Europe, hence why i cannot just update through at&t
I don't think there should be a problem with flashing a gfi kdz over the wma firmware though. I have found plenty of reports of peoplebdoing the exact same thing

Yeah I'm on Google Fi Pie. Bloat sucks and carriers are terrible about it. Glad you got it sorted.

I might be the guy that soft bricked his AT&T V35 and I still haven't updated to Pie yet. The guy that flashed my phone to get me back up and running used V350ULM10i_00_NAO_US_OP_0221.kdz
So even though the Software model of my phone still says V350AWM10i, I can now upgrade with the Pie version of the same KDZ that was used to flash to phone? ie V350ULM20d_00_NAO_US_OP_0612.kdz
And are there different drivers to install for the phone on windows for the AT&T phone or do I use different ones since the phone is flashed using a ULM version of Oreo? Will that mess up the upgrade process in LGUP?

So, with my locked AT&T LG V35, I can flash the ULM firmware with LGUP?

Yes, you can. Just flash an open market (ULM) kdz I recommend that you carrier unlock it beforehand!

It probably didn't work due to the following:
Wrong model, this will only work for the regular Galaxy S8 G950U T-Mobile version, not the S8 Plus.
Wrong software version, you have to be on G950USQS2BQL to be able to update the Oreo Beta file.
Do these need renamed to "update.zip"
Also thanks!

Thanks for that information. Now before I flash this build. Are there any bugs or glitches that I should be concerned about? If need be how do I go back to stock?

Well, I mean these are beta versions, getting bugs & glitches is kind of expected lol As of right now in this version, I've experienced very minimal problems. It runs very smooth, it's one of the best beta versions yet. I do experience some lag after a week or so, but that's expected. If for whatever reason, you run into problems, you want to or need to go back to stock, I do have the ODIN files to flash back to stock, if needed. Just let me know.
Unfortunately, as of right now, there's no method or version to avoid your device from being wiped. You can back up your data with smart switch.

Can you check if it incremented ARB?
If you update and they have incremented ARB, you will probably never get root.
Someone that has updated needs to dump about for me.

Pretty much none. You put it in download mode do the dump with lgup and nothing gets changed on your phone
Im your man then, just get me a link to download the LGup and tell me how to get in download mode
Yea, there is zero risk.
Grab the patched LG UP (I'll post a link if you can't find it), and use the DUMP option, choose aboot (uncheck everything else if it is checked), and click OK, GO, START (sorry -- I don't use LG UP anymore).
zip up the file, it will be called aboot_COMXX where XX was the COM port that was was assigned, and post a link. It has no private info, so you can post it publicly.

That was my thinking also. Thanks for clearing up. Not updating unless I'm sure
It is ARB1 still, this is great!: https://imgur.com/a/fBlRxN7
A friend from Reddit Lumix1 said that ARB is 1.
ARB 1.. does that mean its safe to upgrade and still have a chance at root?

I think since they have the same ARB 1, it shouldn't be a problem.

T-Mo BL Unlock Problem

Recently decided I wanted to run a custom rom. Was on stock T-Mo OOS before, then used the patched MSM tool to flash international OOS. Got through setup, enabled dev options, and BL unlock was grayed out. Tried to flash again and the same thing happened, still grayed out. Any ideas on what happened or what I missed?

Only OOS version 9.0.11 or older is bootloader unlockable.

Not that I know of. The other user mentioned 9.0.12 version is also supported but I never tried!

I believe someone mentioned doing the removing of the modemst 1 and 2
or what ever that thing was to SIM unlock, takes care of it so that you can do it with later versions.
But i have not tried that myself, i saw a couple people saying it worked though.
The actual problem is not the version of the software. I was able to unlock my T-Mo on the latest 9.0.16.
The problem lies in that you need to flash it with the hacked MSM tool. You can copy the exe from 9.0.11 to the 9.016 folder and flash and it will work fine.

Differences between AMZ and GFI firmware?

USA and GFI seem to be the same firmware (same md5 checksum for the ones I've tried) but what's the difference between the one from Amazon and GFI? I assumed the one from Amazon was just an unlocked version of the phone, not that it came from Amazon and with customizations and stuff but maybe it does? Would like to know.

No difference right now, but best to stick with the NAO version. No difference there, either, but at least it promises it's the North American Open Market variant.
On V30 all the way through Nougat and Oreo there were no differences between the various US998 variant KDZ, but now with Pie there is a difference with US998 Pie US998 KDZ. So it can happen.
NAO firmware is the safest.

But the Amazon firmware, unlike GFI and USA, is a couple hundred MB bigger in size so what accounts for that difference?
Can I flash the US unlocked on AT&T model?

Will I be able to get updates?

Where are the Alpha Omega ROM threads? I wanted to search them for GPS help.

Does anyone know where the Alpha Omega ROM threads are?
I'm on AO Oreo on both the US996 and VS995.
I was going to search in them for GPS issues (on the VS995), but I can't find the threads.
Anyone know where I can find some GPS help and/or AO Rom thread?
Unfortunately, it seems that the dev requested the threads to be removed, probably after being bothered too much by users, even though it was clearly stated that the work was discontinued long ago. I've only been able to find archived versions of the first pages for AO Nougat and AO Oreo. And you can still find the ROM files on AndroidFileHost here.
And FWIW, although it's not my main V20, I never had GPS issues on my US996 on AO Oreo.

Thanks on both acounts.
It is unfortunate the dev choose to drop his rom and no longer provide support. I still run it as my daily.
Yeah, the only problem I have with it is since Verizon rolled out a new update I lost WiFi calling on a clean install. Does anyone know a trick to make it work? Mis also considering performing the update. But I don't know what the consequences could be. I want to at least get my second v20 up and running.

I think the hybrid Oreo variant is based on the VS995 and was released before official Oreo existed for the US996. I don't own an F800, but you could probably just try the more updated VS995 version.

Yes, the latest 1.3.1 version. As always, make a backup of your current setup before trying this. And you may need to be a on a VS995 TWRP version to get the installer to work. I also heard that some users of other V20 models had problems installing Alpha Omega on TWRP versions higher than 3.2.3-4, so keep that in mind.

Yeah, look for the 3.2.3-4 for the VS995 under the old versions in that TWRP thread.

You can find it under the "Old versions" section and "3.2.3-4: 2018-10-18" in the first post of this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-unofficial-twrp-3-3-1-1-2019-10-25.3720239/
Sometimes, AndroidFileHost can't find a mirror for some old files, but if you keep refreshing and trying again, a mirror should eventually show up.

I think the constant vibration during boot-up is a side-effect for all VS995 ROMs, and there may not be any workaround for that. US996 ROMs don't have that problem, but I don't know how compatible they would be for the Korean models.
