Wifi working fine - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

I put off buying the 5e due to all the supposed issues with wifi when using tab in landscape. Well I just bought a like new open box 128gb 5e at best buy for $369, and thankfully have no issues whatsoever. Just rooted, really enjoying it.

I haven't really had any WiFi issues with mine either.

Same for me. The whole thing was way overblown. Plus it's possible it might have been fixed by a software update. I believe some Samsung devices have multiple antennas, and they may switch antennas based on how the device is being held. Dunno if that's the case for the Tab S5e however, but it does have an "SX9330 Grip Sensor for wifi" according to Droid Info.
This being said, I'm disappointed that such an expensive tablet only has a single stream 433 Mbps wifi. My Nexus 9 was cheaper, older, and came with double stream 866 Mbps. Especially since the SDM670 is supposed to be 2x2 AND support 160 MHz channels:

I’ve purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e in May of 2019 as a replacement for my aging Sony Xperia Z4 tablet with a broken digitizer. I’ve just returned from 2 month-long trip throughout Europe and I must say that I’m extremely upset about my Samsung tablet due to constant Wi-Fi connection issues.
I’ve managed to get a screen replacement for my Xperia tablet before my vacation departure date and I’ve decided to bring both Sony and Samsung on a trip (my wife was using Sony tablet occasionally).
I’ve experienced numerous Wi-Fi connection issues with my Tab S5e and I’ve actually complained in a number of hotels about their crappy Wi-Fi, until I’ve realized the problem is with Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e only. On many occasions, my Tab S5e refused to connect to Wi-Fi, because signal appeared to be too weak.
I’ve returned home 2 days ago and unfortunately, the return window for a Samsung tablet is closed and I’m stuck with a tablet that is unable to connect to Wi-Fi and is therefore completely useless in many cases.
My Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e is Wi-Fi only model (SM-T720) and current software appears to be most up to date at the moment (PPR1.180610.011.T720XXU1ASG3).
I would like to hear from other users about their experiences and possible solutions.
I’m attaching a photo of both Sony Xperia Z4 tablet and Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e side by side in Saint Marcel's hotel room in Paris where my Tab S5e completely failed to connect to Wi-Fi. As you can see, SaintMarcel SSID is completely invisible to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e.
A second image is taken at home just now. The same issue, many Wi-Fi networks are invisible to Tab S5e

If laying down like this you can't get a signal stronger than -70 dB on the 2.4 GHz band then your tablet is defective. The reported issue had to do with holding the tablet with the hands covering the antenna locations - clearly not the case in your test. I recommend you have your tablet sent in for repair. Maybe the antennas aren't properly connected, for instance.

FWIW, I've had zero problems with wifi, at all.

Motorola Atrix 4G Laptop Dock Specs & Details ReviewSource Article: www.motorolaatrixforum.com
Today’s technology advances are the Sci-Fi gadgets on movies decades ago. Things like mobile phones smaller than the palm of your hand or laptops so thin that they fit in an envelope are becoming everyday gadgets. These advances are in the forefront of technology, some phones have fully functional applications that were only available in computers before. Only thing missing is a phone that you could connect to a device and magically transforms into a laptop. Folks, check out the Motorola Atrix 4G laptop dock.

Lapdock – Motorola Atrix 4G Laptop Dock
Lapdock – Motorola Atrix 4G Laptop Dock has an incredibly thin design with an 11.6-inch screen, full keyboard, stereo speakers, 36Wh three-cell battery that delivers up to eight hours of battery life and weighs just 2.4 pounds. Users simply dock their Motorola ATRIX 4G into the back of the Laptop Dock to turn it into an active, connected machine to experience true mobility at work, home and playing on-the-go in a form factor that’s lighter and smaller than most laptops on the market.
The ATRIX 4G features a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen display, and a dual-core Tegra 2 processor under the hood. It’s running Android 2.2, and while it may not be the latest build of Android, it has plenty of extra features. First and foremost, the laptop dock. The device isn’t a full-featured laptop in any sense of the word. Namely, it’s just a screen (measuring 11.6-inches), a keyboard, and a mouse. It won’t do anything if an ATRIX 4G isn’t plugged into it, at the back of the dock.
The best part, though, is the usage of Firefox. This isn’t a mobile version of Firefox. It’s the full desktop version. And from what we could see of its usage in the demo, it works really well. The display is crisp, and rendering webpages is quick. Even Flash video loads up quickly, and we watched it play through without interruption.
There are even small flourishes, like window transitions, that making the dock worthwhile. Simply put, we were blown away by the performance a dock of this sort has, especially considering that a smartphone is running the entire show.
As for the ATRIX, it is snappy. Considering that Android 2.2 is the Operating System (OS) of choice, it’s not a deterrent from purchasing this phone at all. As of right now, with this demo as evidence, Motorola’s statement that the ATRIX 4G is the world’s most powerful smartphone may be true. Other features like the fingerprint sensor, which works as both security and the method to power on the device from sleep mode

Of course, the real test will come when we have the first review unit, and we can run the device through all of the necessary benchmarks. Until that day, go ahead and check out the video below, and let us know how you think the ATRIX 4G stacks up.
i was just surfing for this info for few days i get this information by this forum thanks for sharing i like very much.......................

U.S. WiFi vs. UK 3G Comparison

So I said I’d post the differences between the U.S. Wi-Fi 32GB (7510) I got in August and the UK 3G 32GB (7500) I got last week. The U.S. G-Tab is running KME and the UK KG1.
Display
The 7500 was built in October and definitely has a different display than the 7510. When you look at it sideways you can see a very subtle texture under the glass. When you press the 7510’s display it makes an oil slick for a few seconds before returning to normal. That doesn’t happen with the 7500’s display. The contrast is better on the 7500 and the colors are more natural. It’s especially noticeable at higher brightness. I like the 7500’s display a lot better. I’ve attached some pics for comparison but the difference is more noticeable in person.
Hardware
The 7500’s back is matte black while the 7510’s is metallic grey faux-steel. The black looks more expensive and doesn’t show finger prints as badly. They also changed the connector port. The 7510 has two small steel circles on each side of the port and the 7500 doesn’t. I’ve attached pics.
Software
The only real difference is Polaris Office is substituted for QuickOffice. I have Polaris on my SGS2 and the other office suites are better. I have a Documents to Go license so I’m using that. The messaging app is a tablet version of the one on the SGS2. A lot of the Google apps like Reader and Video aren’t pre-loaded and you can’t use Media Hub on a device with a CSC outside the U.S. I was hoping it would have AllShare but it doesn’t. Other than that, they’re the same.
Performance
KG1 is a lot smoother than KME. There’s the occasional stutter but it’s noticeably more fluid when scrolling and in transitions. Wi-Fi is about 20% faster side-by-side using the same router. I don’t know if it’s KG1 or a different radio that combines Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G. I can connect my SGS2 via Bluetooth on the 7500 whereas I couldn’t on the 7510. I’m in an area that AT&T hasn’t upgraded and I get 3MB+ down consistently. I was in TX over the weekend and easily got 8MB down there. I leave 3G on all the time and it’s a negligible hit to battery life. Unlimited data and messaging is $20 a month.
On the subject of performance, I made a quick video of navigating around the screens, opening apps, and playing a YouTube HD video. There have been a lot of complaints about performance and I’d be interested to see if everyone else’s G-Tab performs like mine. Like I said, I only get the occasional stutter or lag so overall I’m satisfied with the performance.

From your photos there is nothing I could judge regarding the screen or colors. Basically they are totally crappy for this purpose.
Thanks for the comparison. But one thing to mention my uk 3g galaxy tab comes with polaris office not quick office. And is the wifi version back a real metal or a coated plastic

The U.S. Tabs get QuickOffice vs. Polaris. The back of the U.S. Tab is metallic grey plastic with a graining pressed in to it. It looks better from a distance than up close.

I want a 7.7 Note!

So I bought this new Camcorder and yesterday I have downloaded the 186 page manual before the thing arrives tomorrow. Been reading on 8.9 tab and on the 7.7 since.
The 8.9 works best for me at nightime when all lights are off. With lights on, the size/form factor of the 7.7 is better. The 7.7 screen even on minimal is TOO bright! However, this morning, I can't put the 7.7 down.
All I need now is a PDF annotator app. I have been using Documents to Go and PDF to go, but I want to set bookmarks and hightlight, circle stuff.
BTW, the only tablet for me that would better the 7.7 would be a 7.7 Note, with the pressure sensitive, hard small tipped pen. The flufly, blob pen we're forced to use doen't cut it.

my thoughts exactly... the 7.7 size is perfect....not too big, not too small... just needs an s-pen!
Agreed. I would go out and buy a 7.7 tomorrow but I am holding off because if there is a chance of a Note variant being released it would be my perfect tablet in terms of portability and features. It is more of a want than a need at present which is why I am holding off until Samsung chose to have their big press reveal in a few months for the GS3 in the hope that they slip a 7.7 Note in as well.
Yea a stylus is the only thing missing with the 7.7, hope we get ics soon and a capable stylus

With the rate at which Samsung is cranking out tabs, give it a week .... maybe two and you'll probably see one.

That doesn't mention anything about a Galaxy Note 7.7. Why should we have to check that? Why couldn't you just read it, determine on your own that it doesn't have anything to do with a possible Galaxy Note 7.7 and then not post a link to it?

The voice of reason, well done good sir.
I do hope this mystery Galaxy announcement for August 15th is going to be a Note 7.7. I'd pretty much drop some serious cash for something that great. Apple wouldn't have anything that could match it. Hopefully Samsung's powers it with the Exynos Quad rather than the older 4210. That should pretty much ensure the iPad mini would not be able to compete very well.
Yes dude, that's what we all want. I wonder if Samsung is waiting for the A15 soc to be ready. Or are they simply waiting for apple to launch their ipad mini and then present a better rival? I am surprised there are no rumors about such a great tablet, yet. Let's hope its due for this year yet.

Galaxy Note 7-inch just get the Wi-Fi certification? http://www.note2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=388
The trend for tablet screens is towards 1080p for viewing full HD media and I would not buy a tablet without a full HD screen even if it has an S-Pen.
The only Android tablets which have a full HD screen at the moment are the ASUS Transformer Infinity TF700KL with 4G/LTE and the Acer Iconica A700. with WIFI only and I would be tempted to get the TF700KL when it is available in the UK if Samsung hasn't produced an full HD tablet by then.
There is a rumour samsung and google are making a new high end tablet, but I doubt it would have this code.

GPS Issues - No indoor signal

I didn't notice this problem at first and I think it has gotten worse with time. I mostly noticed it while playing ingress. Sometimes it will be perfectly exact as far as location, grabs a gps link fast, etc. Lately, it does normal when I am near the portal, but if I ever have to go inside a building I lose signal. I compared my Nexus 4 to my wife's Samsung Galaxy Blaze 4g last night at home sitting on my couch next to a window and her phone smoked mine. I'm trying to decide if I should RMA the device and hope to get one with a better GPS, or if all of them have issues. I'm using the app GPS Test. Could anyone else try this and see what kind of results you get?

Hi. I understand your question and i don't have a strait answer but a few ideas.
First of all, the samsung device can have the same gps-"reception" but show that it has more... newer devices often show worse number because they don't exaggerate the results, as a precaution so i doesn't show wrong location.
Second, the Samsung can have a better A-GPS, GPS and so on, because it's allot of more other things that have to fit inside the Nexus 4.
Third, the samsung can "steal" the signal if they are close together and have "priority".
Fourth, do the phones have the same distributor? Here in Sweden the A-GPS is based on what serviceprovider you have and some of them are better than others.
We have good GPS-reception here in Stockholm but only get GPS-signal if you're lucky near the window. But outside or in a car it's great.
Hope i helped a little....
I work for a GPS module manufacturer in the finance department (I’m not an engineer by any means), however our marketing does indicate differences between GPS modules used in phones. With that said, it’s definitely possible to have better single strength on one device vs. another depending on the parts that are used. Some modules are geared toward power efficiency, while other modules are advertised for their performance and accuracy. In many circumstances, there are tradeoffs for efficiency and I’m sure this is the case with GPS modules. With that said, I compared my Nexus 4 to my Galaxy S2 and I found that the nexus took a little longer to lock onto a satellite when standing outside. I just tried my indoor performance but I couldn’t lock onto a location. As I’m sure you are aware, GPS isn’t designed for the indoors, so you should expect some issues. I’m confident that your phone is operating properly and swapping it out might be overkill. I’m not trying to talk you out of swapping your device, but you might receive a replacement device that has more issues than the one you are returning. Not to *****, but my RMA device has a bad USB port and an ugly yellow screen. The first device I received had a really sharp blue color and no light bleeding, however the vibrating function didn’t work. I would trade having no vibrating function for the ability to properly charge my phone.
The company I am employed by does not manufacture modules for LG and does not manfucture modules for Samsung, so i have no technical specs to pull for you.

WiFi problems? Potential easy solution

I've been having some issues with Wi-Fi, that as others have described manifest specifically when your hand is holding the device at the bottom in portrait mode (ie. Near the stylus).
My solution has been to hold the device "upside-down". Fortunately the shield tablet let's you have 180 degree rotation. Now that I use that as my default portrait orientation, i'm becoming more used to it. Additionally, the charging port is on the bottom, which I prefer. The button location I'm still getting used to, but I can deal.
Just wanted to share this simple change that for me has made this awesome tablet much more functional.
Heh, I've been doing this as well. No particular problems with WiFi here per se, but doing this I get better signal strength which offends my OCD less.
Oh please, that is not a solution at all. It's a ghetto ass workaround.
Just wait until you accidentally hold the tablet "the wrong way" after switching from landscape mode. It's totally ridiculous that you have to pay attention to what orientation you hold it, and actually have to hold the thing upside down to get it to work at all.
This tablet is total garbage that was never even tested. Companies that push this garbage on you don't deserve for users to put up with half assed workarounds. They deserve to have every single sale returned for a refund.
This tablet is a corvette motor inside a Ford pinto. But it's still just a powerful piece of crap that self destructs.
Seattle truth, This community, in the many years I have followed it, is generally polite and helpful. Your comment is the opposite of that. I wanted to share something that maybe is obvious or simple, but nonetheless effective for my needs.

I've never has any Wi-Fi issues related to the connection once I'm connected.. The issue with the Wi-Fi had to do with the k1 chip set and how it sleeps. I don't know what these guys are talking about with having signal issues while using it. I get great Wi-Fi signal on this tablet.

If it is the same seattletruth from the NVidia Forums he returned his tablet very early on, but is committed to educating folks about the shortcomings of the product.
Update: g1xx3r beat me to it...
Hm, just got my Shield Tablet. Yes, I have inconsistent Wi-Fi connection.
I haven't changed my router for quite some time and used it with Nexus 7, Note 8, Samsung Note 10.1 and iPad Air - no problem.
It's got to be this tablet, or a batch of it given some are not having this problem.
I have the same issues with mine and yes, the router connects to ALL my other devices fine. I go into the play store and I also can't watch the video up top for the app preview. Youtube app works fine. I have tried everything and even put the tablet to Static. I have had alot of tablets and this is the first one I am having this much problems with. I hope there is an update soon or at least a normal fix.
Thanks bro! This does work great!

Fixed it real quick by returning to Best Buy. Weak wifi on a wifi centric device IMO is asinine and holding upside down does not fix all of the issue. Silly to have to do as well.
My 3DS has stronger 2.4 wifi. That is beyond sad. Also have the Shield 1 that has much better wifi.
The crack issue and 95C core temp also is a concern. The device has a hotter running chip the Shield 1, but no ventilation or fan.
I posted this in the Nvidia forum as well.
I've tested the wifi on my tablet in a bunch of different ways using ookla speed test and general chrome browsing. I have come to pretty much the same conclusion most people in here have. The wifi is weaker than most other wifi devices but this will not be noticed in an ideal wifi setup. For folks with less than ideal wifi setups, they are affected more.
There are a few caveats to my test: I am not using gamestream, so I can not comment on that. And I have such low wifi speed from my ISP (30mbps), that I can not test 5ghz top download speeds vs 2.4ghz top download speeds (because they both easily top out at 30mbps).
I want to go over the things that have improved my wifi performance.
1: Switching to 2.4ghz wifi. This has made the biggest difference for me. Paul Deemer was saying that not using 5ghz wifi is the best for the ST and I agree. I will switch to 5ghz when I gamestream and switch it back to 2.4ghz when I'm done gamestreaming (when I finally get my gaming PC back next month).
If you do need to use 5ghz wifi, see below for other improvements.
2: Using a wifi analyzer app to set my wifi channels up. My apple router is supposed to do this automatically, but when I used the wifi analyzer app I noticed that my channels were crowded.
I set my 2.4ghz wifi channel to an empty channel and I got a full bar more wifi strength in my living room. I set my 5ghz wifi to the highest channel I possibly could (I think 160) and I got a full bar more wifi strength in my living room as well.
3: Avoiding the wifi antenna. This only affects 5ghz wifi for me. When I use 2.4ghz this issue goes away.
http://youtu.be/7v3AR6gZNYQ
4: Using a cover. The cover seems to keep you hand from interfering with the wifi antenna. This is not a total fix, but it does help. Just like in this video at 6:30.
Wifi Death Grip Samsung Galaxy S4 Workaround: http://youtu.be/ySIUuMAvduM
5: Moving your router. If you're having wifi issues you could always try moving your router. I will be moving my router to my living room where I eventually will be gamestreaming.
All of this stuff has been talked about before in this thread and others. I just hope to help anyone out who is still having wifi issues.
I use Netspot app to analyze my Wi-Fi Coverage. You need just a few clicks to load your home plan or area map and start a network site survey
