Whitestone Dome Preorder - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Accessories

I've never bought Whitestone Dome before, because I just couldn't justify the price. Well, I recently bought a used Note 9 that already had one installed. And now I see why everyone raves about them.
I got to thinking, I usually spend more buying cheap screen protectors than I would if I just ponied up the money upfront for Dome. So I decided to preorder a Whitestone for my Note 10+.
Here's my question for those that have bought them in the past. If I only have one Note 10+, is there any reason to get the two-pack? Don't they come with a lifetime warranty anyway? I think I read warranty replacements are only $10, so would it make sense to spend $15 more for the two-pack? Or am I missing something?
I ask because when I pre-ordered, they only had the single in stock, and I got it for $41. Well now the two pack is in stock for $54. Would it be worth it to cancel my first order and get the two-pack?
Obviously title should say DOME not SOME. Stupid autocorrect cc

Where did you order 2 for 54?

I had the Whitestone Dome on my Note 8, put it on day one of owning the phone. Two years later and it's still sitting pretty with no issues. I have dropped my phone a couple times, nothing major, but every time I approached my phone fearing the worst. The Dome is tough as nails, though. Crack-free since day 1.
I would say the 2 pack is unnecessary for most people, but if you are the kind to juggle your phone or plan to use it as an airsoft scope then sure, pick up the two piece.

They don't work that good with in screen fingerprint, alot of misses.

My wife's started flaking away after it hit something in her purse. Mine has had no issues over 2 yrs. The best reason for 2 is if somehow damage it.

How much is a warranty replacement? I was thinking it was only $10 anyway.

Unfortunately they do not ship to the country I am in. I guess I just have to wait for local distributor to bring it in.

I used them on my Note 9 since launch I'm on my second, first was my own fault put my keys in the wrong pocket and they chipped the edge of the glass then over time it cracked more and flaked away, second is fairly solid but shows signs of lifting on one side, but I work outside and do fairly physical work so they do take a fair bit, but they do way better than any other screen protector I've ever used, they seem to survive drops and hits way better and the screen response is way better.
also the only protector I've found for curved screens that doesn't let dust in behind it due to it being fully glued unlike most that seem to only glue the edges and in some cases it's not even all 4.

I'd wait to see how it works with the fingerprint reader first. The reviews of the S10 one are not great.

Yup, I ordered one but I am kind if surprised by the contrast between the positive recommendations I find in forums and a few poor reviews I read on Amazon, especially about the s10 version. Hope it means that forum users are more evolved users when it comes to installing screen protectors... Paid 60€ to find out, will come back here for a review.

My experience was awesome for almost 10 mos, but the past couple of mos I can see dried adhesive on the top where it looks like air bubbles underneath. No clue why or how that happened but im assuming that it just dried out after a while. That was my first time using it on my note 9, so I have kind of mixed emotions on getting one for the 10+. Depending on the quality of these other tempered glass protectors I bought, I may or may not get one but as far as durability goes, I have dropped my phone multiple times and only this last time which was on concrete did it even slightly crack. So I will give it 2 thumbs up for durability.

that's the problem I have with mine on the Note 9 at the moment, it started to appear after the phone took a bump, I believe it is just the glass lifted slightly in the bump.
on the people and the fingerprint scanner, seen a few reviews some people have said they had to try the install more than once to get the scanner to work properly so it may just be it needs to be installed well for the reader to pass through the glue and screen protector. but for me I'm more disappointed they took the Iris scan out, I've never had any luck with fingerprint readers in the past they always seem to struggle with my fingerprints. so I don't hold much hope on the scanner working well either way.

Are they case friendly? Or will it push off?

It really depends on the case. You'll have to wait for people to try it with various cases to find out.

I hope they've worked the kinks out now they've had a few months to play around with it. I've had one on my Note 9 since the day it arrived and it still looks brand new so I'd feel much better with one on my 10+ next week.

my protector came today ready for friday, they have changed/added a step to the install I'm guessing to deal with the fingerprint scanner, there is a lump of what looks like machined polycarbonate and a suckercup, it slots into the bottom end of the installation jig and is placed on the glas before it is lowered with a ridge facing the phone I'm guessing to add pressure to middle of the protector as it sets, the lump also has a circle on it that it tells you to line the glue up in before lowering the screen protector.
so it seems a bit more fiddly to install as you are aiming for a target rather than just running the glue back to the protector, but I'm guessing it is to help with the fingerprint scanner and looking at how it installs user error could be a large factor in why people are seeing problems as the tolerances seem quite small. also I don't know if the S10 kits had this same install method but I know the Note 9 didn't have the step with the weight.

There is simply not a better screen protector out there. I have had Samsung phones since the very beginning (worked for a wireless carrier for 13 years). I've had every type of screen protector you can buy. I used to stick with Zagg glass as they were the truest to touch and I had a zagg store to install and replace them for $10 a pop whenever I wanted.
Then I found the Whitestone. I travel a LOT, I'm HARD on phones (backpacking, lots of water, etc). I use my phone for EVERYTHING. Once I got the hang of install NOTHING has come close. Durable, perfect tactile feel, nearly flawless install every time. I use fingerprint all the time (Samsung pay) and didnt have issues on Note 9, Galasy S10+ and dont expect them on the Note 10+ either.
You may have a little drying at the top of the protector but only after lots of direct sun, water submersion, or other. Make sure you cure it really well and you won't have an issue.
There is not going to be a better protector as the light adhesive barrier between the screen and the glass makes touch sensitivity perfect PLUS it reinforces the protector.
PROTIP: Get the 2 pack. Whitestone requires a picture of the cracked or damage replacement for a swap (only $10). Buy 2 so you can replace with the new one while getting the second swapped out.

2-pack was sold out when i placed my order. Of course its in stock now, but I've already ordered. I'll just stick with the single pack and take my chances. $10 for a replacement seems reasonable enough.
If I decide i don't like the Whitestone Dome, I'll go back to Ringke Easy Film. Its easily the best soft screen protector on the market. I do love the Whitestone on my Note 9, I'm just not sure about how it will affect the FP reader. As others have said, it seems to be a mixed bag of reviews.

reading the install it sounds like you really need to be precise with fitting the protector, so I'm guessing if you can fit it well enough you shouldn't see any problems.

I've had very minimal issues with mine installed on my Note 9. I have just two short spider-lines at the top and two at the bottom. Plus there is a little bubbling right on the curve of the screen. These all came after a bump or drop, the install was pristine for months. I'm going with Whitestone again!
I've read its recommended to scan your fingers in several positions and to scan the same finger more than once, to get the best reading, and that's what I'll do.

Skinomi TechSkin (screen protector) owners, - a question for you

So I'm interested in this screen protector, as it offers edge to edge protection along with some other features I like:
amazon.com/Skinomi-TechSkin-Protector-Lifetime-Warranty/dp/B009W6C3YO/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header - sorry cant link yet due to post requirements.
However, as I'm in the UK its not available to me. I've searched everywhere for it, they just dont sell it here at-all.
In desperation I turned to a friend who lives in the US, and asked him if he could order it to him first, then ship it to me.
So, my question to you Skinomi owners:
What are the dimensions of the box the screen protector comes in? I know the shipping weight (3.8 oz), but the dimensions are no-where to be found on the web. I've looked on the USPS website for shipping rates to the UK, and if it can fit in a "large" envelope and weighs 3.8 oz, then I'm only paying $4 for shipping, which is good. But if it cant, I'm looking at $70+ just for shipping :S
Description of the large envelope:
Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36"
Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42"
Help please?
Edit, for mods;
The question when posting this thread was "Is this a question?"
Though this is a question, its not directly linked to a Q&A of a nexus 4, thus not wanting to be posting a accessories question in the nexus Q&A, I posted here. Sorry if I'm wrong, feel free to move the thread as you wish mods. :good:
I've still got my box, even though I don't use the Skinomi anymore (ended up with a Spigen). Here you go.
4 3/8" x 7 1/8" x 1"
Approximately.
Why you don't order this from eBay or directly from Skinomi website??

I just got it from eBay, thanks for the idea - its still shipping from the US but I only paid $9 for postage with an estimate of 12 days :good:
I bought a tech skin for my phone and tablet from amazon.com. you can have an account with a UK address. It was cheaper from skinomi on Amazon than through there own site. Also only took around 4 days to arrive. I think in total it was $20 or so delivered to the UK.

I got mine 5 days ago from CA (I'm in the UK), the protector does feel good (not too rubbery), though it doesn't have a high quality finish as MediaDevil has, plus it does peal with my BALLISTIC case, I did get around this with six 1mm sellotape rectangles, their barley visible, and they keep the protector from pealing on the edges. Overall an alright product, I definitely overpaid, but with lifetime warranty, I might make a clam soon.
I used Skinomi on my HTC Sensation before I discovered Best Skins Ever, BSE are much better - they're much less resistive to touch (feel almost like glass) and they do a case optimised version which leaves a small gap around the edges so cases/bumpers won't lift the protector, or a full version which fits to the edges.
I do like the packaging of Skinomi and the premium cloth and squeegee it comes with though.
Mines come tomorrow and I'll leave a comment on its quality, etc.
I hope my seidio case comes too.
Pros: Self-healing that actually works..
Cons: Everything else.
Think I might just go with "Just like glass"
Mine came in today but I'm waiting to install it till tomorrow night. Gotta work tomorrow
So I installed it and it's okay. I'm keeping it because I paid fifteen bucks for it and I don't want to run rawdog without one. I have never liked screen protectors. My gnex had one on it when I bought it and I couldn't stand it. I ended up removing it. It was a zagg I think.
I think I'll buy one of the tempered ones soon.
Just not all that impressed.

Keep your fingers wet. Do it in a hot steamy bathroom to minimize dust.
Follow the included instructions.
I've got one of these. Imo, they are easier to apply than other dry application screen protectors I've purchased in the past. And come with a neat microfiber cloth. I also enjoy the textured protector for the back of the device. It came with pieces to cover the sides, top, and bottom too but those weren't so simple to make use of unfortunately.

Just get a BSE, they're cheaper, better and deliver to the UK. Trust me, I've tried pretty much every wet apply screen protector there is over the past couple of years
This screen protector is a total pos! It is constantly peeling off. & stretching
Back side does not stay sticky
Also every where my case is touching it. It had faded to a matte finish.
I would try to get some pics later today.
I think I will stick with Zagg.

[Q] Keeping the Galaxy Note 3 in PERFECT Condition?

Hi everyone,
I've just today ordered the Galaxy Note 3 and it'll be delivered this coming Monday.
I like to think ahead and I will eventually be selling this thing, therefore, I want to keep it in PERFECT condition so that I can get the most money for it as possible.
Obviously, a case and a screen protector are obvious, so I have ordered those: a Case-Mate Tough Case and a three-pack of iSmooth clear screen protectors.
I am slightly concerned about the camera lens getting scratched. Can I get some sort-of protector for the lens?
Is there anything else I can get to keep the phone PERFECT?
Thank you!

Lol
Any useful suggestions?
Leave it in its original box.
what you want is impossible, anything, once used, will show signs of use, nothing can be kept in brand new condition, if you ede it, it will inevitable suffer to some degree, I would recommend to use and enjoy your device taking the normal care any device deserves
As above...
If you want to protect then get a case, maybe a screen protector to stop scratches. Would suggest to not use s-pen as it may wear on the chrome, you can get another wacom pen online for around $35 Aud...
Just be aware some cases can wear down the chrome on the corners and sides especially if you slip in/out a lot.
Otherwise as stated above, buy a cheaper phone to use and leave this one in the box for posterity...
note 4 will be out very soon (January 2014)... u can kiss your note 3 goodbye . the price will drop down .. better sell it now.. and forget about case
For a built in screen protector (gorilla glass according to the manufacturer) and heavy casing you might want to consider the case in the following link. It's not really waterproof but I would assume very water resistant. A few people have ordered it and I'm waiting on reviews before considering it as my outdoors case. Also included the link to the forum discussing it.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LOVE-ME...Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&var=&hash=item4acc41e748

I believe you can keep it in pristine condition to the naked eye, everytime I resell a phone people are pleased in the as new condition advertised. You need a case like otterbox or similar and a screen protector. You can buy a survior case off ebay that covers the camera lense if your that worried. I usually wipe my device once a month with a lint free cloth. Ive sold many phones and devices that were used but looked in perfect condition, I dont baby the devices either they're heavily used.

I've sold a few phones in perfect pristine condition but I generally sell phones after about six months use..... In the last year or so I've had a note 2, two s4's and now a note 3.... Can't imagine how hard it will be to keep a handset pristine for the full length of a contract.
Think the key is to sell the phone on before the resale value crashes too much.

[Q] Jumped ship form iphone 5 to note 3

Hi there,
I just bought the note 3 for verizon from Amazon and I get it tomorrow. I have some questions. I did search and I didn't see these answered.
With the phone being bigger I thought about getting a wallet case for the note 3. Does anyone have any recommendations on one that maybe you use now? I want a wallet case with kickstand but those aren't made for some unknown crazy reason. A wallet case with a kickstand would be awesome. The idea is to replace my wallet to free up room in my pocket to fit this phone heh.
Do you recommend a screen protector for the note 3? The iphone 5 uses gorilla glass and you don't really need one.
I'm pretty nervous as my experience with android was with 2.x and it was very painful. I'm hoping 4.4 is a lot better. I am pretty excited about the larger display. It'll be nice to actually see things again and browse the web without having suffer whiplash because i'm leaning over so far to see what I'm reading.
How would you rate 4.4 kitkat verses 2.x gingerbread for example?
Wallet cases mostly don't need kickstands - many of them simply fold into a triangle shape that puts the phone on an angle. Samsung phones have used gorilla glass for several years - but I'd still get a protector. I don't know if I'd bother with the glass ones - I bought a plastic clearview for mine. I also have a genuine leather wallet case with 3 x card pockets and a large cash pocket. Leaves room for the S-Pen socket and protects it all nicely.
Ahh true I've been looking and I saw some that fold. What wallet case brand do you have? There are so many I have no idea what to get. I'm looking at amazon and there are literally pages upon pages upon pages of different brands. They generally look the same but which ones are the real authentic ones that don't fall apart in 2 weeks?
Any recommendation for a screen protector? I use to know what brands to get but I've been out of the loop for awhile. I thought about just getting the verizon one and have them put it on for me since I would suck at doing it.
Oh warranty. What are your thoughts on buying a warranty with it? I thought about getting the trade square warranty from amazon.
Sorry I have lots of questions I guess. :cyclops:

I'd go for a tempered glass screen protector since plastic might hinder the Spen. Some popular brands are iloome and mime.

the update depends on your country. Some are late. The quickest way is to download the firmware from samfirmware.com and flash using pc odin. It will not trip your "knocks" counter as it is an official firmware.

This Genuine Leather Case is what I bought. I got a screen protector from the same site.
Haven't had a single issue with the Momax Crystal Protector and S-Pen - certainly seems very responsive to touch. I tried the multitouch apps after I got the protector and found phone extremely responsive to all fingers on the screen so I doubt it's an issue. I got the plastic because I figured maybe the softer material would provide a bit more shatter protection on the off chance I dropped it. (& it was cheaper )
Note that my case DOESN'T fold but it wasn't a concern for me. They have This Case, Leather and Fold that might give you an idea of what to look for in the US - or get it shipped.
I was more interested in the extra card (3) and cash pocket
I decided on this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JA4E5JE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It's cheap and has extra card slots.

Ah well, Australia often slugs us extra for stuff. That looks like a useful wallet replacement but will be quite thick if you fill all the card slots. Mine gets to approx 2cm with 3 cards and cash in the main pocket. If I needed to carry more the one you're getting would be a definite option - I like cargo pockets so size isn't that big an issue for me.
I do like the fine leather of mine though - oozes quality.
Ha ya I already thought of that. We'll see if it doesn't work out it was only 10 bucks heh.

Do you think you need screen protector?

Just like the topic. Do you think you need screen protector or tempered glass? I had awful experience with S6 Edge when trying to use screen protector and curved tempered glass.
I don't have the phone yet, but I have an HTC one m8 and I haven't been using a case or screen protector for as long as I can remember. I have no damage or scratches to the screen whatsoever, and this is Gorilla Glass 3, I would think the Gorilla Glass 4 on the S7 edge would be much better.
Based on tests I've seen on YouTube, the screen appears to be very good at resisting scratches. I'll still be using a screen protector to be on the safe side,.
Yeah, I don't like screen protector. However, the phone is really hard to fix this though. So I wouldn't take the risk.
I have always used some sort of screen protection on all my phones however this time around I'm gonna go naked. I think it will take away some of the wow of the handset.
Yes, absolutely no doubt. Just the tiniest of marks on a screen bother the hell out of me, so I put a screen protector on and change it once every month or two. Pity the glass ones on curved screen phones never make the grade and don't sit properly.

I have used tempered glass as well .. but if they are not good on S7 Edge ... what we gonna use this time. Don't fancy putting on the tacky plastic ones
I've checked out videos of traditional film protectors being applied to the S6 Edge, and it seems a tricky process but one that, if done properly, will result in a very good finish. I've been my family and friends go to for applying screen protectors for years, so I'm confident I'll get them on ok.

Well, hopefully Vodafone (for us) start shipping soon, and we can get to try them out. If you do find a good one, then you probably would anyway, but share the link

Don't hold your breath. In fact, I'd get on the phone to them and make sure it's not happening with your order as well. I only know one other Vodas**t UK member on here who pre-ordered the S7, and his was stuck too.

Told you mate, get on the phone to them now. They're so utterly useless, you won't find out there is an issue with your order until it's not delivered by the 11th and you call them to find out where it is. By which time you will need to wait another couple of weeks. And don't use Live Chat.
Despite what I was told this morning, I have zero confidence I'll get mine and the wife's handsets by the 11th.
I'm using one. All it takes is one little piece of sand, or a sliding drop on concrete.
Normally, I prefer tempered glass. We'll see if any good ones become available soon. For now, I'm using the Skinomi. I put it on Tuesday night, and wow did it look like crap. 24 hours later, though, it looked really good. And now, even better. Strange magic.

Sounds like what I was told on Tuesday via live chat with someone in India I think. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the woman I spoke to this morning was in the UK, and when I brought up what I'd been told on Live Chat, she specifically stated that Live Chat is always with someone in another country, as if that made a difference. Perhaps the information they have access to is different? Either way, we're off topic in this thread so fingers crossed you get yours on the 8th. I suspect that will be before mine, despite my call this morning.
Wonder if screen protectors and tempered glass will affect the quality of viewing for gear vr.
if putting on a screen protector...
I also do not like to use screen protector. I do not use one on my ipad. However, for a phone which are more likely to be put into a pocket with keys and other hard object, I do think it is wise to use one . Also, it all depends on how you use your phone.
I have used "ArmorSuit MilitaryShield" brand of protector on my Camera screen (LX100) and on my Microsoft Band 2 screen. And i don't even notice I have a protective film on those screens, it does not make the screen feel tacky. A side benefit of having the protector on my Band is the finger print doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.
Definitely should. No matter what Gorilla Glass version it uses, you will always get hairline scratches. Always. No matter how careful you are.
I don't use cases at all 'cause it takes away from the beauty of a nicely designed phone.
I have the Note 5 currently and on the front I have the Mime Feather+ Glass screen protector. Amazing stuff. Highly recommended. However though, I may opt for a film screen protector to start until Mime comes out with an all clear glass in the Feather+ line. I looked at their S6 Edge product line and they only have the Feather Glass and the glass have different colors along the top, sides and bottom; I want an all clear glass.
On the back of the phone, I've used a film protector called Clear Coat. My local phone dealer uses Clear Coat so I had them put it on for me. It's super thin, edge to edge, and feels great. I may have them put it on the front for me as well when I get my S7 Edge.

But drop that phone onto a hard surface (which even the most careful person does occasionally) and that nice Clear Coat protection on the back may as well not be there. Unless you're very fortunate, you will have dents and marks on the outside edge or, worse, a cracked back or screen. The key for me is balancing the look and feel of a premium phone with protection. And a thin, transparent protecting cover like the Spigen Liquid Crystal is perfect for that. You keep the overall look of the phone, but combined with protection for all but the most severe accidents.
Just like most folks here wouldn't take the chance of running it naked. Have one on its way. For now this would suffice http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BG2EJYS/ref=pe_861660_138883610_fxm_4_0_n_id until there's a good TGSP out there! Hopefully, they'd come up with something really soon!

$199 replacement- should I do it?

So here is the situation. My PH-1, defying logic, has a cracked screen despite me having a case and a screen protector on it. It started out as a hairline crack at the top of the screen but also with a fair amount of corner damage. What doesn't make any sense is that before I purchased the case and screen protector the phone survived quite a few drops without a scratch. Yesterday I dropped it again, on its back, and upon turning the phone over know it is really shattered. Still works but it is in rough shape.
I scored the phone on the Sprint deal at 145 plus the camera so I can't really complain if I have to spend another 199 to have a new phone. The problem is, I don't want to spend another 199 if the same thing is going to happen again. I have never had a phone crack with both a case and a screen protector installed before. That being said, the screen protector was a poor fit and did not cover the corners at all. It almost seems as if the case had a negative effect which is also very odd. No damage before installing the case.
Just wondering if this is a rare occasion or if it is common.
I really like the phone and I want the company to succeed. But if they are this fragile I would probably pick up an LG or an HTC.
I am on Verizon so a One Plus isn't an option.

I think what happened to you is a one off. You should go buy a lotto ticket maybe? On the bright side, you'd still be paying less than what I paid for 1 PH-1 with the 360 cam, used. I bought my combo from swappa in mint condition for $390. You're only at $344, and you got 2 phones Granted one bit the dust. But if I were you, I'd get the replacement. I'm not sure there is a better phone out yet, imo. Only thing to make this phone better on gen 2 would be to get rid of the black bar at the bottom so it is completely bezeless, and to up the IP rating to 68 at LEAST 67. Motorized selfie cam? No notch? That would be nice. I hardly ever use the selfie cam anyway. Just my $0.02. If mine broke, I'd be buying another one

I literally just put my broken one in the mailbox to go back to Essential (Asurion is actually the insurance claim handling company). Mailman hasn't even picked it up yet. I cloned everything into the new replacement last night w/TWRP. So, there was virtually no on-screen setup (security/fingerprints had to be redone), and I'm back up and running as if my phone was simply repaired. That's something that's just not possible with a different phone.
Essential was quick about responding. They take 1 biz day to process and the replacement is sent FedEx Standard overnight.
I am overall disappointed with the fragility of the phone as its durability was a major selling point for me. Essential still has that PH-1 bouncing and tumbling on concrete on their homepage. But, right now there is not another phone with the dimensions, design quality, and components that can compare to this. Now, if I broke another one, I probably would not do it again, unless the price was at least half.
I am a little concerned about your situation being that you had screen protection and a case. But if I were you, I would still do the replacement, and try completely different protective devices. Especially since you got such a deal on the first one, I think it would be a no-brainer for me. I paid $350 for mine w/no 360 cam, and I still did the replacement.
I mean, even knowing this outcome, (I'm $550 in at this point) I still don't think I would have went for the OnePlus 5T. I really appreciate the form factor of this phone, and I plan to baby this replacement.

Yeah, I am addicted to the form factor after having the hand stretching, ache causing Nexus 6. And the fingerprint scanner for unlocking and notifications. What caused your breakage? Did you have a case and/or screen protector?

I try not to drop fragile electronic devices.
On the other hand I can be a dolt so I always get insurance.
I got a SquareTrade coverage on this phone right after I got it.
It was $140 for three years with a $75 deductible for repairs.
So I suggest getting a SquareTrade warranty on the next one.
It also adds value when you want to sell it.

Since the 'out-of-warranty' replacement is $199, unless you think you might go through more than one replacement, neither the extended warranty from Essential, or the price you gave for SquareTrade would be worth it. That's why I never sign up for them. I figure if I manage to break my device, the repair or replacement fee is going to be either my incentive to be extra careful from then til the next device, or impetus to sell it and try something else.

Actually, $140+$75 = $215 which is a wash if you have one incident at $200.
It also covers any other issue for three years, so YMMV.
But even a bricked device would be covered.
One might argue that insurance is never worth it. you can only make the argument until the first time you drop and break your device, have a battery issue, brick or anything else.
I don't typically break or lose my phones, but there is a first time for everything.
YMMV

Case was the Tudia without the notch for the 360 cam, so a full coverage case in other words. Fits pretty snug and covers the edges for sure. Screen protectors were mocolo. Screen protector can be placed on the phone even with the case on, that is how much screen is still exposed even with the protector. Also, the phone was not nearly as responsive to touch with that protector on. Really surprised that the case didn't do the trick with the corner covered. The corner is where the downfall began.

Can you elaborate on this statement in the OP? Got any pics?
I got some of those edge-only adhesive screen protectors with the black borders, which leaves a tiny amount of screen glass exposed (barely 1mm on top [which allows for the speaker opening], and on bottom, and probably 0.5mm on either side). It appears that even with that gap, only the screen protector or the plastic around the screen could make initial contact on a fall. But, my Incipio clear case doesn't fit without catching the edges of the protector and audibly making them peel up (not necessarily visibly). So it's not wearing a case at the moment.
I have a Tudia Lula 2.0 case coming (the one with the 360 cam cutout), so your incident is a little concerning.
I don't care about the durability of a case or screen protector as long as they do their job when it matters, and that is to prevent the phone itself from sustaining damage. But it's for naught if they don't prevent, or worse even cause damage.

I think phones with an edge to edge screen are way more susceptible to damage from a drop than phones with bezels or whatever you call them on all 4 sides. Unless you get a bulky case with raised edges that completely obliterates the beautiful design of the phone a case will probably provide little to no protection in a drop. The same is true of a screen protector because it provides zero protection for the edges of the glass.

Fair point. I always said screw design, give me a tank.I did pull the trigger on the replacement.Got it in a day.Signed up for OTA 8.1 and had it in a couple of hours. Now I just have to baby this thing. And this one is fully unlocked. My original was a Sprint variant and it was bugging out when I pulled the SIM and I could never have used it on vacation overseas.

Sorry just seeing this now.Cant find a pic but there was a gash on the corner and a crack across the top. Then one last drop and it was a spiderweb.
Hey Guys,
I am from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I dropped my 3 month old Essential Phone on concrete floor face down and the display is completely smashed in one corner and has cracks all over the screen. Mine broke because I had neither the case nor any screen protector on the phone.
I am planning for the 199$ replacement but heard from them that its a refurbished device. Just want to know whether the refurbished replacement device is void and free of any scratches/ dents or any other physical defects on the body of the phone. And also the overall quality of the phone is good before I take this plunge.
Thanks,
Zulfiqar
