Apps reactivating themselves - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi guys
So I have disabled a few apps but the phone activates Google Photos and YouTube on its own, mainly after reboot. I have disabled automatic app updates on Play Store but that didn't do it.
Anyone with an idea on why this keeps happening?
Thanks.

I feel ya ? ... Just keep trying til they stay disabled. it usually takes a few tries to disable it cause Google reactivates them but after a few times they stay deactivated. I only use Google maps but even then It'll even update itself even if you uncheck the do not auto update.

Are you not rooted? I take it that's the only reason not to just remove them entirely?
Last time I ran OOS I removed a bit more than this, but this is an old list I posted. I never had any problems anything in that post.

Does it take more than 10 times? I have disabled plenty already and it updates because of something related to the language of the apps (I have cleared app data but didn't help).

Nope, no root. The solution is very straight forward with root

How to disable OTA update?

I don't want 4.2.2, my phone has it downloaded but not installed. How do I delete the update and/or disable the notification? I've searched and tried options for other phones but nothing has worked except what I did below.
I found that if I freeze "Google framework services" it does what I want, but it also disables all google services (play store, etc) is there another way around this?

SOLVED(temp?):
Downloaded an App called "autostarts",
go into the tab called "after startup"
scroll down to you see multiple "google framework services"
for me it was the 3rd one, should say "xxxx--xxxx-xxx-systemupdateservice" or something like that
disable it, clear cache and reboot.
May I ask why you'd want to disable the OTA updates?
Just curious...

I like to do updates on my own time, and dont need someone else or my self hitting the OTA install by accident and messing something up.
and LTE support, but thats meh.

Count me in on this - spent a while this morning trying to find any info on others trying to disable this update (I just got the notification this morning). I'm stock rooted and perfectly happy with my N4 as is. I wish there was a way to just cancel the notification or have it not remind you for a while. It's obnoxious that they cram it in your face.

[Q] Facebook updating OUTSIDE of the Play Store?

I run Version 27 of the Facebook app. Since I got my Note 4 last week, Facebook has been updating daily and sometimes more often than once, OUTSIDE of the Play Store.
I have all auto-updates turned off, no unknown sources allowed. This seems to happen only on the pre-installed version. This never, ever happened on my S5.
Is anyone else with any carrier having this issue?

Sorry, I did a quick skim, didn't notice the "no questions here" someone can feel free to move this.
You can't uninstall it, they made it "bloatware". Clearing cache etc doesn't work. This happens daily.

No, Facebook and Instagram were pre-loaded like bloatware. Disable is all you can do. I use the app, just don't want anything above v27.

I think you are correct about those two files, because I saw those show up.
I had some crazy issues with my phone two days ago and Best Buy had to replace it. I came home, didn't log into my Google or Samsung account. While it was downloading Lollipop, my Facebook app updated. Again, outside of the Play Store and this phone had never been logged into the Play Store, I also had not logged into my Facebook app or sideload my Facebook apk.
I saw those two files listed as "downloaded" in the App Manager. I was able to uninstall updates and disable them. Then I did uninstalled updates on the Facebook app and sideload version 27. I saw those two files in downloaded apps before when I did a reset when my original phone when nuts.
Since I disabled those and they don't show up in the "turned off" apps or show up anywhere now, my Facebook hasn't updated again. I was looking today to see if I could find those two files and where I had them disabled. But, again, the only time I have seen them is when I haven't installed my app and the app has just updated by itself. I hope that has stopped it for me. I think if someone isn't rooted, the only way to deal with those two files is how I did the other night.
lol man thanks i know about them but i forgot to disable them

Yeah I could only disable with the first update. I don't even know if going and uninstalling updates to Facebook, will let you do this or if you can only catch them with the first update after a reset or out of the box. All that based on a non-rooted device.
Still no updates for me since I was able to do that the other night and it was updating several times a day. Every time I rolled it back, it would update again not much long after.

What app to freeze to stop getting update notifications

I'm not interested in going through the process of restoring my phone every month so I can flash these incremental updates. I know on my older Androids that there was an app/program I could freeze with TiBu that would stop the phone from checking for updates. Can anyone tell me which app that is on our Nexus 6P?
I don't mind going through the steps for a real update, I just want to make the decision myself on when that's required.

I killed updates from the play store and that killed the ongoing notification of the update. Still downloaded it automatically but at least I don't have to see it.
Thanks, but I am hoping for something a bit more surgical than that. I have Play Store set to notify me of updates, but not install them automatically. I'd hate to turn it off completely.
Same research
I was doing the same research several time ago, but without luck, I already tested cleaning data from PLAY SERVICES, and disable the automatic aupdates from PLAYSTORE, no onde of them works in they way you expected too, after some reboots it comes back again, I just tried to disable the UPDATE SERVICE and worked but not after rebooting which keeps the problem, I will let you know if I find something.

I tried shutting off notifications from Google Framework Services, as suggested in another thread, but I still get the update message upon reboot. I also froze DMService, but that didn't work either.

Play protect disable option not available

I'm trying to disable Play Protect in the menu of the play store and/or in Google services menu and the option to do so isn't there. I have a 918 on 10k. Also need help disabling my own personal Hate for Google button.
I came here from a Google search. The option has disappeared on my phone too. I only switched it off a few days ago.
Now it is back on with no option to turn it off. I can only guess Google have deliberately removed the option
My phone is Doogee BL5000 if that makes any difference. Android 7.0

Same. I Googled it, and my phone and Tab s2 tablet do not have the option Google says I should have. I do not even have the option in my phone setting-google services-security to disable "verify apps". I play around with Lucky Patcher sometimes and the play store calls it a virus but now I'm getting a 504 error updating Kaspersky. Everything else updated. I feel it's related.
Why turn it off?
Sent from my LG V20 using XDA Labs

I also use LP and there's an option to disable play protect within LP, then again we shouldn't talk about LP on xda.
I'm getting warnings about 2 apps, the one that can not be mentioned and SELinux Switch. I don't mind Google protecting us but they should at least allow us to disable it if we are confident.
There's no option to disable Play Protect any more. If you choose to "use anyway" you are still stuck with permanent explanation notifications and a permanent warning in Play Store
I can't find any information about this even from Google themselves
Hope somebody on this site can find a fix for this

I must have found the same info as you did. Are you having any issues updating any apps? There should be no reason my anti-virus won't update right now. I did just install xposed and activate the module for the "the app that cannot be named". I'll try to uninstall it when I get a chance.

No, not that I've noticed. Apps are updating as normal as far as I can tell. I do have Magisk and I'm having issues with getting SafetyNet status. Maybe that is affecting something

Check your play store settings. It showed up finally. I turned it off.
Thanks. Found the option and turned off
No option for me to turn off. Nothing in settings. Auto updated itself today.

Apps still updated after disabling automatic updates

I disabled automatic updates in playstore settings but for some reason apps are still auto-updating. Its getting to be pretty annoying too because every time I remove a bloatware app it just downloads and reinstalls it.
How do I stop this??

Try clearing Play Store data/cache (settings->apps) followed by a reboot. You will need to update/reapply personal settings, including the master toggle for automatic updates.

Most of them are in the oem partition anyways. So remove them from there. But do it in twrp file manager, because trying to edit oem while booted will lock up the device.

Clearing the play store cache did worked for a few of the apps but the ones in the OEM I effectively deleted in twrp. Turns out the OEM partition on this phone is largely useless bloat and not much else.

Also before deleting from oem, first just try renaming them (with a ~ at the end for example) to make sure it's safe to remove. Then boot up and check, if all is good then you delete if you want. Many people delete things, then come back here asking if anyone has a copy because they deleted something they needed.
Just to be safe.

Yea this ain't my first rodeo. I've bricked far too many devices to make that mistake again. I only did away with the crap I was 100% certain was just that, crap, ie boost zone, amazon, facebook, etc. Though I'm still trying to figure out what it was I removed that rendered system webview permanently frozen, but I made a separate thread regarding that.

I was talking to the person I quoted. To make sure they did it correctly.
Sounds like you did a bunch of stuff that could have caused your issue.
