Can i flashh 955U1 firmware files on AT&T 955U? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello.
I'd like to update my S8+ 955U AT&T to android 9.0.
My phone is currently running 8.0 Oreo.
The OTa update system seems to be broken or something. Some people says that it is because i am outside the US.
I was wondering if this file would work for the 955U as well
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model/?record=2E77B192601A11E99F15FA163EE8F90B
It is suposed to be for AT&T but, the model number says "955U1"
Will it work? if not... what can i do to get 9.0?
Thanks in advance.

I would recommend downloading the 955U software, you can follow the steps in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s8+/how-to/sprint-released-oreo-s8-s8-flashing-t3915872 and instead of using SPR in the Region section on SamFirm use TMB, this is the way I was able to update it to 9.0

Nougat for SM-G930U firmware?

I'm on a Verizon s7 g930V running Samsung's stock firmware g930U and I've read that the phones bought through Samsung (so no carrier to go through) are getting Nougat OTA already.
I'm rooted, so it obviously gets mad if I try to check for an OTA, but should I unroot and check for a nougat OTA?
Do we know of anyone trying this successfully?
Does a Nougat Odin install package exist somewhere with "g930u" in the beginning of the filename?
Let me know if I should bother guinnea pigging on this one.
No need, I just checked and there's no update. Nothing online about it either. Seems only the international models are getting 7.0 at this time.
930/935 U is on quarterly updates. There will likely be no Nougat till April at the earliest.
so is there any possible way of running nougat on sm-g30u?
am i able to flash sm-g30f firmware on this to get nougat or is this not possible as they are different models?

The F model is the international version and it is not compatible with the US unlocked S7. You can however flash any US carrier version firmware on the the SM-G930U.
thanks, are they any known issues in smg930u like the ones i raised earlier?
seems very buggy in australia. Microphone is also recording muffled and louspeaker calls echo on my listeners end and no noise cancellation
getting frustrated with the device, network is bad, any possible way of flashing the baseband from a sm-g30F to a SM-G930U?
I need the network more reliable. Now i regret not checking the model number before buying the phone

Newbie question. Installing Oreo on S8

I'm completely new to the Android OS and have a question.
I purchased a used Galaxy S8 SM-950U (Unlocked with AT&T branding on load) with Android Version 7.0.
How would I go about updating it to Android Version 8.0 in terms of getting the correct files? I probably can't use, for example, the Verizon Oreo version for this phone which looks to be AT&T branded, so would I go on AT&T's website to get the correct files or how does that usually work?

If its unlocked you can use any US firmware you want yes it will just have that carriers apps I dont know the exacts but its not to bad
keep in mind if you are looking to root you have to stay on 7.0 revision 2 bootloader or less any thing 3 or higher which is 8.0 we cannot root

Thank you for your answer. So it sounds like I could even go with a non carrier branded version straight from Samsung without bloatware (if there is such a thing?)
Good point on the root. As far as I have read the bootloader is different from the OS, so would it be possible to root it with a 7.0 bootloader and install a newer OS (8.0 or 9.0). Or do these always go hand in hand?

hand in hand kinda
7.0 bootloaders dont work for 8.0
you can i think use comsy odin and install the 950u1 bootloader 2 firmware which is unbranded to maintain it

SM-T827R (US Cellular) flashed with T827V (Verizon Oreo) - Working no issues

I purchased a US Cellular branded Tab S3 to use on AT&T when I found out they sell them unlocked. I also recently wanted Oreo on it and after some digging found US Cellular still hasn't released an update but there was one from Turkey and one from VzW. I tried to find a concrete yes/no if I can flash other variants of the T827 models firmware without luck so figured I'd roll the dice on it myself. This weekend I tracked down the VzW Oreo firmware and used Odin to install it on my US Cell Tab. The first round I had a couple of errors and for a second thought I had a new paper weight, but kept calm and ran through the process again and it worked!
Just a note:
At first boot it will say the SIM is invalid and to put in a VzW SIM, but you can click ok and keep going. Once done setting up on wifi you can then go into settings and add the AT&T APN and connect over cell.
Could you post where you got the VZW image? I'd like to try this. I can't believe USC hasn't updated their tabs yet. I'm tired of asking when the update will arrive!

Not sure that was a good idea. If indeed you did manage to flash the VZW bootloader then the tablet is now likely bootloader locked with no way of returning to its original state.

Was this verified to be the case? Also would the verizon combination file work on the uscelluar tablet? I picked up a cheap SM-T827R4 that is FRP locked. I am waiting to hear back from the original owner if they would be willing to bypass the verification for me.

I was able to flash the combo file for the SM-T827V (Verizon version of the Tab S3) to bypass the FRP lock. I used the one on gsm-firmware.com After which I was able to reflash the uscelluar firmware from sammobile. I don't know if this is exactly the same as the OP's method, but hope it helps someone else out in the future.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I downloaded the image files from sammobile and installed them with odin. I've been up and running on Oreo (VzW branded) since my post and have had no issues or reasons to flash to anything else. I have tried to run an update but it says it can't register, which i assume is because it's hitting the VzW servers w an ATT SIM from a USC device!

You just need to put a Verizon SIM in it once (and so far only once) to check for updates. The SIM doesn’t even need to be provisioned. Then you can check for updates with your normal SIM.
I’ve had a VZW Tab S3 for over a year that I have been using with AT&T. I updated to Oreo without any issues with my AT&T SIM installed.
Wanted to first say thanks for the tip -- and echo that The T827R4 does in accept the Verizon Oreo firmware via the latest version of Odin, though with a build just a few releases behind it threw an error and would not flash.
I guess if we can't have root we may as well have Oreo.
Samemobile has the January security update Oreo

You're right about Verizon firmware running really smooth. Much better than the US Cellular firmware. After flashed VZ firmware, the model changed to SM-T827V.
in case anyone has the us cellular model, you really don't need to flash the verizon firmware because the us cellular model has a more updated firmware than the verizon model.
the model is actually SM-T827R4, oreo with apr 2019 security and OTA update works too.
though no pie update yet (same as verizon)
So these can't be flashed to the stock 820 pie rom?

You can download the latest at updato.com or sammobile.com and flash using the latest odin tool
Here u can find and download manually android pie for your model
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/
But u can also use updato.com for faster download speed.
Be sure to use latest Odin 3.13.3
Edit: it seems @TheMadScientist was a bit faster then me
Would I still be able to have the unlocked version of the s8 or will flashing the update lock it to a specific sim career?

Depends if you download the U1 bit 5 firmware or the U firmware These devices are hardly locked to any carrier if it is sim unlocked Switching is so easy now
Thanks for the quick replys guys, I was thinking of flashing this firmware for the UK unlocked s8.
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/BST/download/G950USQU5DSD3/268481/
Would I be able to flash different firmware afterwards if this one doesn't work out properly?
BTW I have attached a picture of my current software details: https://m.imgur.com/a/v7j79L4

Yes you can flash another. That's boost Mobile a cdma sprint subsidiary
If your carrier is a gsm it won't work more than likely but as long as you stay bit 5 you can flash any of them
Ohh I see I didn't know it was cdma, uk uses gsm only so a tmobile firmware would make more sense such as this one https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/TMB/download/G950USQU5DSD3/272406/

OTA Update Not Available Galaxy S8 Active (AT&T SM-892A)

As far as I am aware the AT&T Galaxy S8 Active is supposed to be compatible with Android 9.0 (Pie). I just bought an unlocked version of this phone on Amazon and it is currently on Android 8.0 (Oreo). This is the baseband version: G892AUCS3BRG1. I have tried flashing the update file from this post, but I kept getting a PIT error. I also tried using Samsung's Smart Switch, but that also says that 8.0 is 'up to date'. I don't plan on getting an AT&T sim and the phone currently has no sim. Now that you know the information here is my question: How can I update to 9.0 without getting an AT&T sim? The best solution would be a working 9.0 Flash for my device. Thanks to anyone who figures anything out.
