Is there a root for SM-G955U? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been scouring the forums and other varients are supported, but this one doesn't seem to be. Am I able to root? S8 plus with Jan 2019 security patch and 8.0. Thanks

ZTE Grand X 4 Z956 root (from Cricket Wireless)

Well, this is my first time posting on XDA. I have a ZTE Grand X 4 Z956 running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the January 1, 2017 security patch. The forums said I had an Axon 7, and there are no forums on my device, so I might as well post here. I cannot achieve root on this thing with Kingroot, Kingoroot, iRoot, or Towelroot. I even tried the dirty cow exploit before it updated and that did not work when it had an earlier security patch. Please help!

You won't get help here, even some axon 7 mini guys came and were utterly ignored
Try Google or whatever

Ok sorry I posted here.
Wow talk about community
The thing is, it's a different device. It's not much point asking because who knows, advice could cause a brick. The Axon 7 mini is a different device too. It has a different SoC.
Obviously the basics will still apply so bootloader unlocked is a must.

Root help

Is there a way to root muy phone, everything I find is outdated & for an older version.
Provider: Verizon
Service: Metro Pcs
Android: 7.0
Security update: June, 1, 2017

Are you sure that this will work? I didn't see anything on the security patch being supported? He only listed a T-Mobile edge security patch

The root kernel listed will work with all version.of the os you root, 6.0.1 or 7.0. There have been no posts about certain security updates not running root right, just the posts about supersu updates causing glitches. You'll be fine
So just to understand, security updates are irrelevant if the android version matches?
It's been awhile since I've rooted anything, just trying to get the basics down to avoid a brick.

Yeah. The better news is that using Odin and flashing any of the flushable packages through Odin for any carrier will not brick your phone as long as it is a non-Chinese snapdragon variant. So vzw, unlocked, AT&T...whatever your flavor. Devs have hybrid roms that run without root and provide some customization as well.
just did this, sorry was away because of work. say's "custom unlock" now so it worked with no issues! Thank you!!!
@Dirtydcs
Thank you for posting that it worked helps keep info up to date for others.
I just got a SM-G930V from verizion and also have Android Version 7.0, I'm at Security patch level May 1, 2017 and have Baseband version G930VVRS4BQC9 and was wondering if this was the same baseband version you where running? When you rooted.
Thanks
Finger print issue can be fixed by just clearing the prints off your phone

SM-G935P: is it rootable?

So I have been trying to root my Sprint S7 Edge for quite some time now. All my attempts have failed and I don't know if its my carrier, my software or the security updates.
Here are the details:
Software Version: G935PVPS4BQG1
Android Version: 7.0
Android Security Patch Level: July 1, 2017
Baseband Version: G935PVPS4BQG1
Security Software Version: MDF v3.0 Release 1, WLAN v1.0 Release 1, VPN v1.4 Release 8.0, ASKS v1.3_161228
Im only doing this so i can get an S8 ROM. If anyone can answer this, thanks in advance.

Theres a search bar at the top of the forum. IF you type Sprint S7 Edge followed by what you want to search, you will find many threads for root... pick thats most recent.. no more downgrading, or I don't believe anyone wants to because of the horrible interaction of the firmware(s).
Anythings possible right...though Any random joe isn't going to figure it out..ever. This is meticulous and comprehensive work.
I think you should read up first before posting a thread that's been made numerous times.... If @Chainfire isn't cracking it then I don't see it happening quickly by another dev or expert without reassurance of another device if it turn into paperweight.
Read Chainfire's impressive but yet disappointing hypothesis/post regarding what you exactly want to know.. hes not saying he can't do it but its a matter of user agreement and not practical on the average root we all see-spread out.
This isn't just the S7 Edge.. Samsungs Devs are real aholes but also packed tight with security.... hence they aren't really doing anything wrong but pissing off those(we) who are doing the opposite of the agreement we are all 'supposed' to oblige;
Chainfire, "The main reason I do not feel like continuing trying, is because this appears dangerous."
If you don't think wasting almost near a grand is dangerous then learn how to do it.
I was thinking about donating $500 and hopefully he can screw up a device for me(hopefully not lol) and break the bootloader. This will also help figure out other Samsungs.
Although, IDK if he'd respond because he's out there in terms of Developers. The Developer. Money talks and i think that's a fair amount.
It's the best answer to your question:
https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-...tion-and-root-on-the-sgs7-variants-on-nougat/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72204306&postcount=978
This is posted in a different variant forum... I wouldn't go browsing and trying to apply stuff. Idk your level of comprehension haha
But seriously.. read the whole thing. Then read it again. Then read it another time.
Im not wasting near a grand. Im just asking if it is rootable and not that im actually going to go ahead and try to root it once more. If it cant, then so be it. If it can, then why not go ahead and do it?

Well , thanks to the last update they intentionally slowed down the phone. Haha. Apple style. My guess is that you may only flash an older version of the firmware. I am a noob, as the name implies. But you can give it a try. It's a safe shot.
Otherwise, try getting a new one. The note8 is kind of a beast, so
But keeping the note 4 is good too, just don't update it.

Afaik only if you can get hold of a firmware with this patch and flash it with Odin.
But why on earth do you want to do this?
Mine is working perfectly well with custom Q.

Root possible for SM-G950U on Nougat 7.0?

I remember the issues with the locked snapdragon bootloader on the G950U when I was looking to root back around 2017, and talks about it maybe being possible. Fast forward several years and I haven't really looked into it ever since, and searches are giving me a mixed bag of answers. I am still on the old Dec 1, 2017 patch on nougat 7.0, would be nice to get onto 9.0 with root, but I'd be happy to stick with 7.0 or 8.0 if it means having a root. Have been holding out from upgrading for a long time in hopes that maybe something would come along, but if there still isn't something available for the Dec 2017 patch after all this time guess I'll just bite the bullet on the updates and look into an upgrade
