Totally dead phone - any sneaky tricks to fire it up? - Moto G6 Plus Questions & Answers

My wife's G6 Plus simply died when we were out with the boat yesterday. No water anywhere inside the boat, though (we drink other beverages...). Tried to connect it to the wall wart for a few hours, nothing. I know it can take a charge, because I can see my powerbank reacting when it's connected. But no dice on turning it on. We've tried holding down the power button for minutes, and the power button plus volume down. Are therne any more options that can work? When I connect it to a pc there's no reaction at all. I would like to get some of her pics out of it that weren't backed up, but that's of course not happening before I can turn it on.
So is there a sneaky, hidden way to threaten/torture it to wake up, or are we up a certain creek without a paddle?

I did have the exackt same problem with my G6 plus a few weeks ago. After a walk (no rain) suddenly my phone was dead. Zero reaction.
I did bring it to a reparehous and they did a boardswap. My moto is workung fine after that and is was repared for free becourse of 2 years warrenty.

Thanks, but that won't help me get the pics out. The phone is already replaced by a Mate 20 Pro, and it can of course be fixed by replacing the board, but that means loosing the pics, which are the only thing that matters in that thing.

Won't boot.

Probably I'm just new, but since after rooting it, it slowly ran out of battery as phones do, but now I'm unable to switch it on. Tried several ideas but to no avail.
I guess it isn't a big deal, I can always return it to the store later today and ask for a replacement since I only bought it last week.
Whilst I'm here, anyone think it's worth dropping this and switching it for another one whilst I'm at it.
Empty battery? Maybe you should charge it for a while.
won't boot
Hi, my dell streak is only three weeks old, but all of a sudden won't boot. Haven't done anything I shouldn't have. Have just downloaded a few apps, was using it at night and woke up in the morning to find it was off and can't be switched on. Took the battery out and put it back on again. Pressed the shutter button along with the power button, and held down the volume keys along with the power button, nothing seems to make a difference. Can someone help please!

try charging it for a while?
Take it back to the store and get a replacement, if its still under warranty.
Hi Guys, thanks for your replies. It's working now, this is what happened:
I woke up in the morning to find my phone switched off and I couldn't switch it on. I connected the main power charger for 5 mins, then laptop for 5 mins to charge but neither helped. The defect I think is in the charger. I left the phone connected to the laptop for a few hours, then switched it on to find it still wouldn't switch on. Then disconnected the sync cable, took the battery out, and put it back in - and voila, it switches on!
Issues: charger failed in two weeks; the streak doesn't switch on when the battery is down even if it's connected to a source of charging (in this case, laptop). Dead battery - charge - take battery out - put it back in - switches on.

[Q] LG G2 D800 Help needed. possibly bricked. yes really..bricked

So yesterday my phone worked great. I work outside for the most part. It rained its ass off. Phone did not get wet that im aware of. no water drops or anything on it. Had it inside my waterproof jacket. This was early morning..10am or so. I get home from work around 7pm. Phone still works. battery is getting very low though. At 8pm phone reboots..which it randomly does sometimes. I set it down, come back to it awhile later and realize it never came back on. Figured the battery was completely drained past 5%. plugged it into stock charger (not stock cable though but a highend cable still). Phone wouldnt boot up or power on or even show any signs of life. Tried other cables, charges, USB ports on computer, even car charger. Nothing. Set it on charge over night. Still not even a LED blink. Set it on car charger all day while at work. Not even a blink. I took it apart (taken many phones apart in my time haha) disconnected battery and plugged it in...nothing. tried power/volume down, power/volume up, all 3 buttons. held all button combos for over a minute. Still nothing at all. I have a new battery on order that I can slap in there and see if the battery is just completely shot but does anyone else have any ideas on what i can do to get it up and running again? Already had to buy a new phone G3! because i HAVe to have one for work. So i want to get this one working again so i have a backup in case this ever happens again.
Thanks for any and all help

and forgot to mention. when plugged into computer the computer does not notice anything has been plugged in at all. no sound at all. nothing under device manager
well i got the new battery in. didnt work. still no power at all. anyone else know of something i can try? i know the screen isnt dead because it would still give out sound when turned on or vibrate. but that doesnt happen either. is there some other thing i could test? how would i test the motherboard? power button?
This sounds like exactly what happened to my phone about two weeks ago. Phone was randomly rebooting one morning in strange intervals. Once or twice an hour at first, then more often as the day progressed. By the end of the day the phone wouldn't even turn on anymore. I had thought it was the battery as well but after bringing in to an electronics repair shop, it was diagnosed as a bad motherboard and the guy quoted me $130 to replace it. Considering you can buy the D800 off contract brand new for about $220 off the internet, I declined. I'm still really upset about it. I had already had it replaced by AT&T while it was under warranty. However, now my warranty has expired. I really liked the phone overall but now I'm not so sure I trust LG's hardware.
I'm using my brother's old iphone 4 now and it drives me flippin' crazy. I want to get a new phone as soon as possible but I don't know what to get. I'm so torn on the whole issue. Was thinking about the S6 but I've had bad luck with samsung in the past as well. I'd get a newer iphone but ios is so lame compared to Android. I hope you find a better solution than I did. :crying:
Download mode and rom flash?

[Q] Phone appears to be dead

I've been using my phone as I always would. I even used it around two minutes before it stopped working. I went up to get a drink, got a message and responded to it, went back to where I was and sat down and wanted to charge the phone only to notice that it didn't and it wouldn't turn on either.
I took out the battery and put it back on. I've checked the connectors and they seem to be alright. I held the power button for a minute without the battery in it, which was a trick I read on a website. I tried 3 different chargers (2 fast chargers and a regular one) and the phone won't charge (no red light) and the battery was 90% full when I went to get a drink, which I know because I was already charging. I've tried many things (holding power button with battery in it as well), but nothing seems to work and the device appears to be dead. It's a brand new device as well which I got in mars after my first Note 4 got stolen.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My advice for you is to take it to the Samsung. This is a major issue for a almost brand new phone. Good luck.

My 6P died..

So yesterday when after finishing work I grabbed my 6P from my desk and wanted to check for notifications. To my surprise it was off.
I held power button for 2 minutes - nothing. Tried holding various button combinations, still nothing.
I went home and plugged it in charger overnight. There was no reaction and phone did not seem to get warn while charging either.
This morning I took it off charger and tried turning it on again. Nothing. No reaction.
Tried plugging it into computer, nothing new in device manager. Booted up linux and tried there, same.
After all that I just took it into repair shop. It is theoretically still under warranty, but there is a little chip on right side - in plastic between screen and frame.
Does anyone have any idea what could have happened?
Try 4 to 5 minutes to hold the power button, while on charger. 2 minutes are maybe to short.

Yea, I tried holding while on power and while not. Once I held it for 10 minutes (my finger started to hurt lol). Tried Holding power and them plugging in the charger too.
Anyway, does not matter now. It is in warranty service already.
Was just wondering if anyone else had a similar issue.
Happened to me on a trip outside the country. Pulled it out of my pocket and it was dead, wouldn't take a charge, looked completely dead. I bought a burner phone and planned on taking it apart when I got back. Three days later I plugged it in and it charged up and started just fine. I have not had it since (3 months ago). I figure there is some hangup internally and the battery needs to deplete completely before the thing switches off completely. Let it sit for a few days and try again...
So.. The local warranty service basically said that they won't repair it because it is 'physically damaged'.
Which is crazy.. Phone is in perferct condition only 'damage' is between the screen and metal frame. You know, that little plastic edge.
See attached picture (sorry for quality).
I now have emailed Huawei directly explaining the situation. Let's see what they respond.
I will leave the phone unplugged for few days to see if it comes back to life.
try plugging it back into the charger. mine came back from the dead with the red charging led after the mentioned recuperation period. I let it charge a while and switched it back on. No problems since.
I had the same problem. Send to hauwei and they changed the phone. The sad part is the data I lost.
I will leave it alone for few days and then try to charge.
I sent an email to Huawei UK, which is where this phone originally came. Let's see what they respond.
See the attached picture, I made a better one.
Had this two months ago. When connecting it to a pc some weird qualcomm entry popped up in device manager, basically telling me something was very wrong.
Sent it in for repair and got a new motherboard even though it was unlocked and had a custom ROM
But i guess they couldn't check that as it was completely dead

Phone just died in my hands after removing the charger.

Hello guys,
This just happened.
I left my phone charging, and when it hit 100%, I disconnected it from the charger and then I was going to put it in airplane mode, so I could go to bed. When I pushed the status bar down, the phone froze, 5 seconds later the screen went black and it wont turn on now.
When I plug the phone on my PC, there's a sound notification from windows, just like when you plug whatever USB device, but the phone is absolutely dead.
Holding the power button doesn't help. It just got out from warranty last month.... Full stock phone.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
50/50 chance a new battery might fix your problem. But if your not gonna do it yourself might be time to throw in the towel.
Similar event happened with me, phone died abruptly service center people told me that pcb has died and needs to be replaced, will cost more than 300$ for a new pcb. This phone has got really poor quality hardware component can die any time. Never gonna buy huawei built phone in future

I haven't had any problems with the battery whatsoever, it was fine since day one, a little but totally normal wear. The phone charged fine everytime also.
I stopped by in a service shop, they don't mess with nexus devices and they don't know anyone who does (Nexus never came to my country, so it's a rare device to see, iPhones, Galaxies and Moto G are kings here)..
Anyway, I tried everything I could. Hair dryer, downloading build with QFIL, holding the power and volume for more than 20 minutes, leaving the charger on for 24h and everything else I found online and the phone didn't even tried to recover, so I pulled the trigger on a OnePlus 5T. I hope this one lasts me for 5 years, like I was planning with the N6P.
