Unlocked AT&T LG V35 still not updating after placing $10 AT&T prepaid sim on phone
I''m using an AT&T Unlocked LG V35 and noticed that updates did not work with my Cricket Sim Card, i bought a prepaid $10 AT&T sim card, placed it in, and updates are still not coming (stuck at December 1, 2018 Security Patch).

it fixed itself when it was actually checking for updates a few days later, before it was just saying that the phone was up to date without checking.

Just Today I have received Pie update with May security update.
Thnx at&t.

Pie!!!

Did you register your sim, it just plug it in?

I still can't get the pie update for some reason, i'm doing the date and time method where you go 5 days forward and it says that my phone is up to date, it previously worked earlier in June updating it from December 1 2018 to April 1 2019 updates.

Just bought this phone! received no software updates?

I just bought this phone 20 hours ago and I was expecting a lot of software updates But I received non! it says I'm on the latest version.
Is this normal? I have the FD version, the guy on the store said the dual-sim receives the same firmware and I shouldn't worry about not getting software updates!
Dual SIM receives the same updates. I usually get the updates at the end of the month. I'm currently on the November patch on a dual sim version. Just wait for it.

Android 7.1.1 or later for Verizon Customers?

I have a 64 GB Nexus 6P, currently running Android Nougat 7.0. Verizon is my provider. On 12.5.16, I received a notification that the update to 7.1.1 was available, but when I attempted an OTA, I did not get the update, nor the security patch. I read on the internet that Verizon blocked the update for Nexus 6P customers due to a SIM issue with this update. I am still running 7.0 and Settings shows my phone as up to date. Verizon has not been able to provide any information about why this update was blocked. I was told by a T-Mobile store supervisor that their Nexus 6P customers did get the update to 7.1.1. If I were to leave Verizon and switch to T-Mobile, allowed the update to 7.1.1, but then found T-Mobile reception was not good, I don't think I could return to Verizon with a phone updated to a version they had blocked. I was looking forward to Visual Voicemail, which I believe was introduced in 7.1.1. Could someone tell me if this block from Verizon is expected to affect all future Android upgrades for my Nexus 6P or is Google known to be working on a fix. ?Am I blocked from any future upgrades now that Verizon has blocked this one? Verizon told me there was a similar issue for the Pixel, but it was fixed because Verizon sells the Pixel, but never sold the Nexus 6P.

There are many "stuck" posts on XDA, but sometimes the Verizon ones get buried. Your phone is not blocked from getting an update, nor have Verizon phones been blocked- it's just stuck and sometimes that just happens. There is a 7.1.1 January update expressly for Verizon phones (N4F26J) that includes a new modem to address the Visual Voicemail and other Verizon specific issues. You can try various methods to force the OTA again such as a SIM swap, but you can also download and flash the full OTA directly to the phone. You don't have to be unlocked or rooted to do this. To address the other part of your question, you can definitely swap out SIMS from different carriers and go back and forth- not just in the US but many countries overseas as well. That is the beauty (and purpose) of owning a carrier unlocked phone.

Unlocked S8 US

Anyone know why Samsung takes so long to update the unlocked version? Is it due to compatability with all carriers and need to push carrier updates to get approved then they can push update to unlocked?
I'd imagine one reason is that they sell far fewer units for the unlocked versions.
I believe it is for security reasons. Easier to push out updates with errors that you can't exploit because of it being locked. Then having to make sure updates for the unlocked versions are more secure
I doubt it has anything to do with carrier compatibility, because I know that Samsung is not certifying the unlocked S8 for ATT. That is why the unlocked one cannot get VoLTE on ATT. There are very few unlocked devices that ATT certified for their network (HTC A9 comes to mind) and get on VoLTE. Verizon is not too far from this.
So, if we scratch carrier certification (because Samsung is not doing it), who knows what kind of contractual barrier with carriers is preventing them from updating the unlocked S8 and S8+. I guess similar contractual barrier that is preventing Sony selling their unlocked models with enabled fingerprint readers.
Got it. Well it finally received its first update this morning.

Ok that's the difference. You have a T-Mobile version that got a similar update except from what I had read it is May security patch. I actually have a factory unlocked S8 that isn't from any carrier. It got the update with June security patch

Can I put sim from another carrier into new S8+?

So I just got my S8+ (was going to return it because of no root yet, but said the hell with it... phone is too sweet to return). Anyway... I am currently under contract with MetroPCS on my Galaxy S5 and my S8+ is from Xfinity, but I have 10 days to activate it and I'm going to wait the full 10 days, because I'm paid up on MetroPCS till the 17 and since billing doesn't kick in with Xfinity until I activate, was wondering if I can put my Metro sim in it and use it till it activates?

LG V20 H910a won't Android update

So my wife and I both bought LG V20 H910a (AT&T unlocked phones) from newegg and amazon about 2-3 years back. We are using AT&T services so we are not off network but either of us can not get updates through AT&T OTA updates. We are still running Android 7.0 and software H91010m (April 2017) and can not receive any updates at all. AT&T has been little to no help. Any ideas on how to get update as feel kind of rip not getting Android 8.0 or 9.0.
