Bluetooth Gamepads not working in shark space - Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Questions & Answers

Good evening I've been trying to connect a bluetooth controller to my black shark 2, I have attempted to use a ds4, c.t.l.r (Madcatz controller) and the Nvidia shield Bluetooth game pad.
All of the above connect fine with the phone and work as intended with the phone for navigation and as controllers in game.
However if I connect the controllers and switch to the shark space, my bluetooth remains active (displays as active) but communication is lost to the controllers.
I've also tried to start shark space then connecting and repairing the controllers but the black shark will still not communicate/connect to them.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? And if so did you find a solution?
I am planning to to download the sixaxis app tomorrow (it's really late now) and manually setting the Bluetooth address for the controller threw a pc, then loading the sixaxis app into shark space, and booting the sixaxis app in shark space.
Any thoughts will be appreciated and I will update once I know if it's user error or a bug and how I got round it if I do

Small update so after trying again this morning I totally overlooked that the black shark 2 is not rooted yet (not had a none rooted phone for a long time) so the sixaxis app is out of the question. But I did changing the Bluetooth address of a DS3 pad manually to match the phone via a pc. But could not get the 2 to pair when the pin request was made by the phone (tried 0000 and 1234)
I also tried using a variety of ime controller apps, auto Bluetooth connecting apps, gamepad enablers etc, all which I added to the shark space and booting in shark space before attempting to connect the controllers.
Again I was able to connect the Bluetooth gamepads (except the DS3) I've got available but they would not function or perform inputs.
At this point am assuming that the shark space is disabling the connection almost instantly after shark space has loaded up. I have got movement inputs from the ds4 in shark space, but only when I've had it functional outside of shark space and then loaded up shark space whilst there's an established connection. But it's only functional for a second or two (most of the time not at all) then the game pad continues to have a lit led like it's still connected, but in the Bluetooth settings the controller now displays as discconected and will not reconnect until shark space is closed. And without root access or a software update I am out of ideas as to how to utilize shark space cause there's not may games I play with the touch screen.

Bluetooth controller
Hi, in using the ipega Bluetooth controller and it works perfectly fine for me even in shark space. I use it for Damops2 (ps2 emulator app) and for dolphin (GameCube and Wii emulator) no issues here, I've got the global black shark 2

Hi, I connect the controller and then launch shark space. The ipega controller is amazing. There's quiet a few different ones but I would recommend the ipega PG-9023

How do I connect a PS3/360 controller?

so it was my understanding that an innate ability of 3.1 was that it allowed us to plug in controllers, including PS3 and 360, and play witht hem. I plugged in my PS3 controller, expecting some sort of "input detected" message, but nothing. theredoesn't seem to be anything in the settings to configure or connect a device, either.
how do we do this? I know there are some emulators that have released updates with controller compatibility in the changelog.
As far as i kmow you camt connect a 360 controller. To connect a ps3 controller u need sixaxis controller. Its a paid app in the market.

I connected my wireless xbox360 controller using the PC dongle. I never got any message, it just worked. There are videos showing how to do it.
I can also confirm if you plug in a usb xbox 360 controller it works almost instantly
Using the xBox wireless usb adapter for PC to play emulators on my a500 3.1. Works like a charm.
The app to support the PS3 Sixaxis controller is only needed if you use it over bluetooth. It works without that program plugged in by USB. Bluetooth support is cool, but you need a PC as part of the pairing process for the controller.
Doing something with the controllers is something different though ... most emulators allow you to map the controller keys to the game, but you need to set them up in the emulator.

does anyone have any tips on disabling the home and back keys on the android while using a different input method? I connected s wired xbix 360 controller to my tablet and I can bind some buttons for emukators but other buttons on the controller are bound to home and back so when I try and use those bbuttons in the emulator they either close or worse I can't even bind the buttons because I'm pressing back. I also am unable to use the right thumbstick for input. Any suggestions and/or help?

Use an app called bt/USB joystick controller (just search "joystick" in market.) Its a paid app but about 60p and well worth it. I use it with my wired and wireless Xbox pad.
It has custom profiles for all different pads and means all ure buttons work. The UI isn't massively clear but once its set up its a doddle You basically tell ur device that input method is not touch screen keyboard, but instead your pad.
Best part is that I use my pad for some proper games (ie not emulators) and its great. Gta is awesome on it.
Awesome app but I'm having troubke configuring my analog sticks would you ir anyone happen to have a driver for a wired 360 controller appsrentky you can export profiles.
I was surprised that a ps3 controller when plugged in with the USB and it just worked

PS3 Sixaxis works wonderfully with Note

I wanted to post a quick note about game controllers for the Note.
Can't speak for everybody, but I have found in hard to find definitive information on what gamepads will or won't work with the Note. I had previously tried all different combinations. Xbox wired controllers. Wiimotes over bluetooth, and even 2 different Onlive controllers. In all cases the results were mixed.
So, I sort of gambled and bought a Wired Sony Sixaxis controller. It works perfectly! This is a Sony branded official Playstation controller.
For the record, its a wired version, I connected to the Note with an USB OTB adapter. It connects from the mini USB port with a female USB end.
I was able to use the controller for several Android Market games, including Grand Theft Auto, and Shadowgun. Also, I connected to Onlive and was able to use the controller without issue.
I have not tried any emulators (not my thing) and I found at least one game that "should" work does not. That's PES 2012. In fairness, I may not have the right version. In theory, anything Xperia Play Optimized on the Market should work.
The best part was that I got the controller for $30 at my local gamestop.
Hope this helps someone.
Don't know if this works with wired controllers but has some nice extra features for wireless sixaxis controllers.
- Keyboard emulation. Map all buttons and sticks to almost any key available in Android.
- Mouse emulation. Configure a button to activate the mouse pointer on devices that support mice (most tablets, and many phones should work).
- Touch emulation allows you to map buttons and analog sticks to the screen. Play all your favourite games with full analog support, even those without built-in controller support!

Have seen this but haven't tried it, looks like it adds the same features as the sixaxis app.

How did you get SixAxis and the PS3 controller to work on Shadowgun?
I have the app, PS3 controller and connect wirelessly via Bluetooth. The controller paired just fine with my AT&T Note. I fired up Grand Theft Auto and the controller works just fine with no additional setup.
For Shadowgun, though, nothing works.

DualShock4 Controller/Gamepad Compatibility

From my understanding the DualShock4 PS4 Controller will work with the Shield TV when using USB/OTG cable. Has anyone tried pairing over Bluetooth?
I think the PS4 pad is the most balanced gamepad for thew type of gaming I do(mostly emu/retro gaming and occasional Android native games)and before I order one Id really like to hear from anyone who uses different types of gamepads
Yes, it works with the regular USB cable.
The PS4 controller can connect wirelessly to any android device using the closed source paid app Sixaxis Controller available on Google Play. This works quite well. If you adjust the settings and default mapping it can work just like a native Android gamepad and start the service on boot. Having tried it on my 16 GB model there are two caviats. Firstly it overrides the Bluetooth hardware to simulate a PS4, so you can't simultaneously connect any normal Bluetooth devices (such as the Shield remote). Luckily the Shield gamepad uses WiFi-direct. Secondly, for some reason the D-pad is unavailable during the gameplay of some games. This is no good for playing Half-Life 2. Also the non-default mapping doesn't play well with GTA San Andreas. Despite these issues I'm still glad I bought the Dualshock 4 (I don't have a PS4) because it's the nicest physical gamepad I've used, and the two issues I've listed are only software problems. My LG G3 running CM 12.1 nightlies can connect to the Dualshock 4 without the app but doesn't map well. Another cool thing about the Sixaxis Controller is that you can use the touchpad as a mousepad. Great for sideloaded apps. Oh and you need root to use Sixaxis Controller.
Got it. I was aware of sixaxxis for other android tablets/phones Ive used but for some reason I thought I had seen a youtube video of someone simply pairing a PS4 gamepad using the native Bluetooth pairing process. I may have been looking at a video of another device, not the ShieldTV
My Sony TV with built in Android TV has drivers for a PS4 Controllers to used via bluetooth, is there anyway I can extract the files to be used with the Shield TV?
Did you root the shield tv in order to use the sixaxis? Or did you change the master address and then pair as normal on the shield tv?

I rooted in order to use the Sixaxis Controller app. I never managed to pair it to the Shield TV via normal bluetooth (like I can with my phone). And the master address needs to be changed either way.

yeah I rooted my shield TV last night and using the Sixaxis appto run my Dualshock4 controller. Worked like a charm.
does the siaxais controller ps4 work with the nvidia shield for multiplayer?
The Sixaxis Controller app claims to be able to handle multiple PlayStation controllers but I haven't tested this. I can confirm that it works multiplayer using a DS4 and Shield Controller (which uses WiFi direct, so isn't affected by Sixaxis Controller overriding the Bluetooth hardware). Interestingly the DS4 now pairs with the Shield TV (via Bluetooth, without Sixaxis or root) and maps correctly as of firmware v2.1. Unfortunately it misses button presses and it's impossible to turn off the DS4 without unplugging the Shield or unpairing it (and it took about 20 attempts to pair). Sixaxis still works well but require root and disconnects all other Bluetooth devices. I'm fairly sure that you can pair DS4 controllers with Sony Android TVs out of the box.
will it work via a cable connected usb without a need for an app?
i want a second controller not sure which one to get
anyone using this with bluetooth be aware: if you leave the sixaxis app running for too long with dualshock bluetooth enabled, it may eventually disable bluetooth on your device when trying to go back.
ive been through 2 different nexus players, as well as a shield tv and all have ended up disabling OS bluetooth, even when turning off the sixaxis bluetooth, resulting in requring either a factory reset or android terminal installed and typing in some commands to get it to work again. What causes the issue seems to be random, as sometimes i can leave the app running and come back and it still works, other times it doesnt though. you can still use the nvidia controller since it runs via wifi, but the remote and any other bluetooth devices wont work. this issue is a random event and doesnt always occur, but it IS there, and its a pain to get it working again.
Perhaps someone can find a compatible app to sideload to enable/disable bluetooth in case this happens? would be much easier than typing in terminal commands.
does itwork fine wired ? and is it a better controler

Yeah, I experienced the same issues in just my first time pairing a DS4 controller with the Sixaxis app... Also, like others mentioned on here, the default layout is a bit weird (Options=Select; Share=Back, etc) which means a lot of customizing in games, etc. Also, the service doesn't always auto-start that well so sometimes it takes some time to get it 'connected and ready to go' and I don't like how the app takes over Bluetooth while it's running. The only thing I did like is that the touchpad feature does work well (as long as the app supports 'Mouse input'), but overall I didn't think it's worth the hassle if I have to this every time I want to use the controller.
BTW, in case your Bluetooth becomes disabled while using this app, the command that worked for me (in adb shell) is:
Code:
su
service call bluetooth_manager 6
Has anyone successfully paired the shield with a DS4 without the sixaxis app? My shield can see the controller (listed as wireless controller) but they can't seem to pair.

Same thing happened to me although I only had the app for about 2 hours before it disabled BT. I couldn't get it to work while installed, and i am rooted. I don't believe it works in the newest firmware 3.0.
What did you use to write those commands? Would adb minimalist work? Same app used to root the shield?

Well, I used the Nvidia Shield TV Utility App to get into an adb shell, but Minimal should work just as well. Just make sure to run the 'adb shell' command before you run the commands I listed on my post above..
I used terminal Emulator on the device and it worked great. Turned BT back on

Xbox 360 Controller issues with local multiplayer through Gamestream/Moonlight

Hi everyone! This might be a long post, but I figured I'll give as much detail as I can in the first post. I recently got an Nvidia Shield TV over the holidays and I've been loving it, incredibly powerful device that's totally exceeded my expectations. However I've been having one nagging issue, and that is in the topic of getting 4 controllers to work through Gamestream/Moonlight.
To give a quick background on what I'm working with - I have a Shield Gamepad with an official Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless USB Receiver and 3 Xbox 360 Gamepads.
With Gamestream, multi controller support doesn't seem to work at all. When disabled, the Shield Gamepad works perfectly without a hitch in single player games. However, as soon as I turn it on through the menu, the controller instantly stops working. I can still navigate the menus of Gamestream, but the actual input of my controller is no longer being sent to my PC in the other room.
Now, Moonlight seems to solve this problem, but only partially. Installed with no customizations, Moonlight will support multiple controllers, but will stop at 3, meaning that I can have my Shield Gamepad and two Xbox 360 controllers functional, but the last controller's input will not go through, even though it is connected to the receiver and able to send inputs to the Shield itself.
I am able to get all 4 controllers working simultaneously with Dolphin, Mupen64Plus AE, ePSXe... You get the picture. It works GREAT with everything, but I have these weird issues whenever I try to get this to work with the official Gamestream app and Moonlight.
I've tried even hooking up a wired Xbox 360 controller to the Shield in an attempt to fix both issues, but the same thing happens. Weirdly enough, when I go to my PC and hook up a controller, then that controller can take over the 4th controller slot! But then you have 3 people gaming in one room with the last player in a completely separate room using the PC.
Thank you so much for reading!
TL;DR - Gamestream multi controller support doesn't function at all, no controller input will go through. Moonlight only supports 3 controllers, but for some reason not 4. Using Shield Gamepad + Xbox 360 Controllers.
Anybody know the solution? I'm still running into issues with this

when you start a stream, as soon as the game starts, hold the Play/Pause button. A new menu will pop up and on the right side is a 3-dot menu. Select "multi-controller" enabled. You have to do this with each stream.
I just bought a 2nd Shield controller a couple days ago, and through my adventures trying to get multiplayer in gamestream i stumbled on this menu. Don't know why nvidia "hid" it in a menu rather than having a giant button on the screen or something.

The weird thing is that whenever I try that, controller inputs on Gamestream stop working entirely.
I guess that's partially irrelevant now though. My Gamestream app has decided to stop working entirely (claims my PC is asleep when it's not). I now use moonlight for all my Gamstreaming purposes, but am still running into issues with the 3 controller cap.

ps4 controller

Just an FYI you guys, the ps4 controller works with the s8+ via Bluetooth I'm using it now and I'm downloading some games for vr and games for emulators to test it out but it works fine and connects fine, I can use it to navigate on my home screen and I'll edit this post to see how the game play is. Just press the PS button and the share button at the same time and once it blinks go to settings on your phone and scan and connect, I had to do this twice for some reason but the second time it worked

Bluetooth Controller Lag
I have attempted to use my roommate's PS4 controller and noticed some major input delay. I will attempt to move to an icon to highlight and open it, but it will take a second or two before it moves. Sometimes it will shoot past what I was attempting to highlight. The same thing happens when running Metal Gear Solid through FPse for Android. A 1 to 2 second delay occurs when I try to move or take any action.
I also have my own newer Xbox One controller. Has anyone played with that to see if it works better?

I was able to get it to work for me
Hello Iv'e been trying to make the ps4 controller work with my s8 for so long, i decided to see if connecting the included OTG adapter that came with my s8 to the Gear VR and it works the ps4 controller shows a blue light and lets me control the game, for some games you have to change the controller settings hope this helps everyone.
Did the phone have to be rooted? Older phones needed to be rooted. This is good news if no root is needed.
My org cable don't work no more. Can't mount anything and twrp doesn't show anything for mount otg. What do I do?
Samsung includes a USB C OTG in the box so use any controller you want or at least they do in Canada....
They also add it in the States as well.
It works, kinda...
I was able to successfully connect my PS4 controller to the android device. However, i was only able to play Asphalt 8 with. PES2017 didn't work. I am looking forward to more games that can work with the controller. Any recommendations?
Hi,
I've a Motorola Moto g5 and was just wondering if a PS4 controller was compatable with this phone? It pairs with my phone via Bluetooth but the controller itself doesn't work!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get it to work or is it just best to get an android Bluetooth gamepad? Looking for easier controls for my emulator.
Cheers.

No

I have tried using a moga controller through pivot. two separate ds4 (Bluetooth and usbc) and xbox one controller through the usbc. The moga successfully connects and works within the pivot app but loses all functionality as soon as you leave the app. The ps4 cont. Connect via Bluetooth but no inputs are received. Connecting ps4 cont. Via wire just charges the controller from my phone. And the Xbox one cont. Does nothing once plugged in. I just want one of these controllers to work so I can use them on emulators(i have tried many)
