ps4 controller - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Just an FYI you guys, the ps4 controller works with the s8+ via Bluetooth I'm using it now and I'm downloading some games for vr and games for emulators to test it out but it works fine and connects fine, I can use it to navigate on my home screen and I'll edit this post to see how the game play is. Just press the PS button and the share button at the same time and once it blinks go to settings on your phone and scan and connect, I had to do this twice for some reason but the second time it worked

No problem! And everything works fine I was playing the legend of zelda through my phone being screened to the TV the ONLY problem I've seen is the analog movement is a bit delayed but buttons and all work fine

The newest Xbox controller should also work using Bluetooth. It can also be remapped if needed.

Usb otg is better than Bluetooth no anolog lag

Bluetooth Controller Lag
I have attempted to use my roommate's PS4 controller and noticed some major input delay. I will attempt to move to an icon to highlight and open it, but it will take a second or two before it moves. Sometimes it will shoot past what I was attempting to highlight. The same thing happens when running Metal Gear Solid through FPse for Android. A 1 to 2 second delay occurs when I try to move or take any action.
I also have my own newer Xbox One controller. Has anyone played with that to see if it works better?

delete

I was able to get it to work for me
Hello Iv'e been trying to make the ps4 controller work with my s8 for so long, i decided to see if connecting the included OTG adapter that came with my s8 to the Gear VR and it works the ps4 controller shows a blue light and lets me control the game, for some games you have to change the controller settings hope this helps everyone.

Did the phone have to be rooted? Older phones needed to be rooted. This is good news if no root is needed.

My org cable don't work no more. Can't mount anything and twrp doesn't show anything for mount otg. What do I do?

Samsung includes a USB C OTG in the box so use any controller you want or at least they do in Canada....

They also add it in the States as well.

It works, kinda...
I was able to successfully connect my PS4 controller to the android device. However, i was only able to play Asphalt 8 with. PES2017 didn't work. I am looking forward to more games that can work with the controller. Any recommendations?

Hi,
I've a Motorola Moto g5 and was just wondering if a PS4 controller was compatable with this phone? It pairs with my phone via Bluetooth but the controller itself doesn't work!
Does anyone know if it's possible to get it to work or is it just best to get an android Bluetooth gamepad? Looking for easier controls for my emulator.
Cheers.

No

Nothing works
I have tried using a moga controller through pivot. two separate ds4 (Bluetooth and usbc) and xbox one controller through the usbc. The moga successfully connects and works within the pivot app but loses all functionality as soon as you leave the app. The ps4 cont. Connect via Bluetooth but no inputs are received. Connecting ps4 cont. Via wire just charges the controller from my phone. And the Xbox one cont. Does nothing once plugged in. I just want one of these controllers to work so I can use them on emulators(i have tried many)

USB Gamepads

Does anyone know if usb gamepads work with the Iconia? Would like to use an analoge pad if it can be done to play some PSX games..
Thanks, Sonkey
This has been discussed numerous times since 3.1 was released.
Yes, USB gamepads are supported. Not 100% sure about analog thumbpads for psx playing though. Try it

I use a wireless xbox 360 controller for PC (w/ usb receiver). This works well for nesoid hooked up to the tv via HDMI
why bother using a wired joystick when you can get a wireless joystick at just few bucks more..
i have PS3 wireless joystick and installed sixaxis contoller app... been happy and no problem so far
Those of you using an xbox controller hardwired..
my left analogue stick works but not the right one. also the top L+R buttons work but not the bottom ones..
do you guys have the same issues??
Also..
Those using the PS3 controller.. have you noticed that any buttons arent responding? might invest in a PS3 controller if they all work correctly.
thanks in advance.
I've bought this app on the market
(Damn, cannot post links...)
it's called 'USB/BT Joystick Center'
It's working perfectly to me...
I've tested 3 generic usb joysticks and all of them worked.
You can create the USB driver based on the bits input of the device.
really nice, and no root is needed.

Hey rafinhasantana,
I bought USB/BT JOY center too but i was afraid to install it. check out the permissions on that thing. Says it can record passwords you enter in another application. I know its probably needed to record button actions etc... but i was a little concerned.
Do you have any issues with it thus far? Anyone else use this????

Hi!
Well i've had no problems with that.. It works like an alternative input method, like in the Wii controller input, but you're not gonna use to type your passwords around. I've contacted the developer about the deadzone for sticks and he hass implemented that...
It's working fine for me, and since I don't use the tablet for banking I'm not THAT worried about passwords on it at all...

Those SixAxis Dual Shock controllers... the ones listed as wireless still have the mini USB connection on the back. Is that ONLY for charging, or can those be hooked up via USB to the tablet for use as well?

But before i pull the trigger, can anyone plz confirm that you can connect two wiireless sixaxis controllers simultaneously for 2-player mode in some games? If not, can the wired controllers do it? Anyone know if PlayStation One (dual shock) controllers can work properly?
I have one hooked up via an OTG cable and a USB conversion hub (to plug the controller into) and can only seen to get the analogue sick to work on FPse. The others buttons (other than the D-pad and right analogue stick) seem to be working in the joycentre but I am not sure how to get them to work outside it, out how to tell the joycentre what physical buttons the presses relate to. Does anyone know if a tutorial video in English?

How do I connect a PS3/360 controller?

so it was my understanding that an innate ability of 3.1 was that it allowed us to plug in controllers, including PS3 and 360, and play witht hem. I plugged in my PS3 controller, expecting some sort of "input detected" message, but nothing. theredoesn't seem to be anything in the settings to configure or connect a device, either.
how do we do this? I know there are some emulators that have released updates with controller compatibility in the changelog.
As far as i kmow you camt connect a 360 controller. To connect a ps3 controller u need sixaxis controller. Its a paid app in the market.

I connected my wireless xbox360 controller using the PC dongle. I never got any message, it just worked. There are videos showing how to do it.
I can also confirm if you plug in a usb xbox 360 controller it works almost instantly
Using the xBox wireless usb adapter for PC to play emulators on my a500 3.1. Works like a charm.
The app to support the PS3 Sixaxis controller is only needed if you use it over bluetooth. It works without that program plugged in by USB. Bluetooth support is cool, but you need a PC as part of the pairing process for the controller.
Doing something with the controllers is something different though ... most emulators allow you to map the controller keys to the game, but you need to set them up in the emulator.

does anyone have any tips on disabling the home and back keys on the android while using a different input method? I connected s wired xbix 360 controller to my tablet and I can bind some buttons for emukators but other buttons on the controller are bound to home and back so when I try and use those bbuttons in the emulator they either close or worse I can't even bind the buttons because I'm pressing back. Use an app called bt/USB joystick controller (just search "joystick" in market.) Its a paid app but about 60p and well worth it. I use it with my wired and wireless Xbox pad.
It has custom profiles for all different pads and means all ure buttons work. The UI isn't massively clear but once its set up its a doddle You basically tell ur device that input method is not touch screen keyboard, but instead your pad.
Best part is that I use my pad for some proper games (ie not emulators) and its great. Gta is awesome on it.
Awesome app but I'm having troubke configuring my analog sticks would you ir anyone happen to have a driver for a wired 360 controller appsrentky you can export profiles.

DualShock4 Controller/Gamepad Compatibility

From my understanding the DualShock4 PS4 Controller will work with the Shield TV when using USB/OTG cable. Has anyone tried pairing over Bluetooth?
I think the PS4 pad is the most balanced gamepad for thew type of gaming I do(mostly emu/retro gaming and occasional Android native games)and before I order one Id really like to hear from anyone who uses different types of gamepads
Yes, it works with the regular USB cable.
The PS4 controller can connect wirelessly to any android device using the closed source paid app Sixaxis Controller available on Google Play. This works quite well. If you adjust the settings and default mapping it can work just like a native Android gamepad and start the service on boot. Having tried it on my 16 GB model there are two caviats. Firstly it overrides the Bluetooth hardware to simulate a PS4, so you can't simultaneously connect any normal Bluetooth devices (such as the Shield remote). Luckily the Shield gamepad uses WiFi-direct. Secondly, for some reason the D-pad is unavailable during the gameplay of some games. This is no good for playing Half-Life 2. Also the non-default mapping doesn't play well with GTA San Andreas. Despite these issues I'm still glad I bought the Dualshock 4 (I don't have a PS4) because it's the nicest physical gamepad I've used, and the two issues I've listed are only software problems. My LG G3 running CM 12.1 nightlies can connect to the Dualshock 4 without the app but doesn't map well. Another cool thing about the Sixaxis Controller is that you can use the touchpad as a mousepad. Great for sideloaded apps. Oh and you need root to use Sixaxis Controller.
Got it. I was aware of sixaxxis for other android tablets/phones Ive used but for some reason I thought I had seen a youtube video of someone simply pairing a PS4 gamepad using the native Bluetooth pairing process. I may have been looking at a video of another device, not the ShieldTV
My Sony TV with built in Android TV has drivers for a PS4 Controllers to used via bluetooth, is there anyway I can extract the files to be used with the Shield TV?
Did you root the shield tv in order to use the sixaxis? Or did you change the master address and then pair as normal on the shield tv?

yeah I rooted my shield TV last night and using the Sixaxis appto run my Dualshock4 controller. Worked like a charm.
does the siaxais controller ps4 work with the nvidia shield for multiplayer?
The Sixaxis Controller app claims to be able to handle multiple PlayStation controllers but I haven't tested this. I can confirm that it works multiplayer using a DS4 and Shield Controller (which uses WiFi direct, so isn't affected by Sixaxis Controller overriding the Bluetooth hardware). Interestingly the DS4 now pairs with the Shield TV (via Bluetooth, without Sixaxis or root) and maps correctly as of firmware v2.1. Unfortunately it misses button presses and it's impossible to turn off the DS4 without unplugging the Shield or unpairing it (and it took about 20 attempts to pair). Sixaxis still works well but require root and disconnects all other Bluetooth devices. I'm fairly sure that you can pair DS4 controllers with Sony Android TVs out of the box.
will it work via a cable connected usb without a need for an app?
i want a second controller not sure which one to get
anyone using this with bluetooth be aware: if you leave the sixaxis app running for too long with dualshock bluetooth enabled, it may eventually disable bluetooth on your device when trying to go back.
ive been through 2 different nexus players, as well as a shield tv and all have ended up disabling OS bluetooth, even when turning off the sixaxis bluetooth, resulting in requring either a factory reset or android terminal installed and typing in some commands to get it to work again. What causes the issue seems to be random, as sometimes i can leave the app running and come back and it still works, other times it doesnt though. you can still use the nvidia controller since it runs via wifi, but the remote and any other bluetooth devices wont work. this issue is a random event and doesnt always occur, but it IS there, and its a pain to get it working again.
Perhaps someone can find a compatible app to sideload to enable/disable bluetooth in case this happens? would be much easier than typing in terminal commands.
does itwork fine wired ? and is it a better controler

Yeah, I experienced the same issues in just my first time pairing a DS4 controller with the Sixaxis app... Also, like others mentioned on here, the default layout is a bit weird (Options=Select; Share=Back, etc) which means a lot of customizing in games, etc. Also, the service doesn't always auto-start that well so sometimes it takes some time to get it 'connected and ready to go' and I don't like how the app takes over Bluetooth while it's running. The only thing I did like is that the touchpad feature does work well (as long as the app supports 'Mouse input'), but overall I didn't think it's worth the hassle if I have to this every time I want to use the controller.
BTW, in case your Bluetooth becomes disabled while using this app, the command that worked for me (in adb shell) is:
Code:
su
service call bluetooth_manager 6
Has anyone successfully paired the shield with a DS4 without the sixaxis app? My shield can see the controller (listed as wireless controller) but they can't seem to pair.

Controllers not being recognized?

I was wondering if anyone has tried hooking up a ps4 controller or any other third party? I hooked an otg cable from my ps4 to the phone and the ps4 light stays blue when it should be orange? I tried connecting via Bluetooth and it sees the device and pairs wirelessly naming it wireless controller in the device list but the buttons don't register in emulators or supported android apps that used to work with my note 5? I used to use my controller all the time but now with my new s7 edge I can't get a controller to work? Can anyone else try for me and see if you have different luck? I tried the otg to an x1 controller and it rebooted my phone....
I got the same results with the Xbox One controller. Wireless adapter still doesn't work (expected), but when plugging the controller in via USB my phone would boot-loop until I unplugged the controller. And even then it still rebooted two more times before working again. I haven't been home to try my Wii or Xbox 360 controllers yet. I thought I would just grab the XBone controller and use it with the Gear VR today on my lunch break. What a disappointment.
I tried hooking ps4 controller and had same issue. I found it might be related to faulty not tested drivers in marshmallow system. Yeah I'm disappointed too.
Moga works.
My Xbox 360 wired controller works, PS3 doesn't (wired or bluetooth).
Same problem here. PS3 controller wired with OTG, just has the 4 charge leds blinking, nothing happens.
XBOX 360 controller, home button keeps blinking and also nothing happening other then that.
Same here ps4 controller not working, causing phone to crash and boot loop when connected. I have a wired Logitech pc x input controller that I tried and it seems to work just fine. But this totally sux as I love my ds4 and was hoping to use it with the gear vr. The Logitech is no where as near as comfortable as the ds4. At least I have something that works for now. Hopefully there will be a fix.
i have tried xbox 360 wired, xbox 360 wireless receiver and a xbox one controller, none work in the s7 but the xbox 360 ones work in my other phones...
Has anybody found a way to use an Xbox one controller with their s7 devices?

You mean to sync it to the Xbox? It does but it only blinks twice and then dies. I left it charging over night and that's all it would do. I left it charging again and I'm about to try it with my Xbox but yeah so far no luck lol
you guys know you need a custom kernel with xpadder support enabled and the xbox fixes for the linux kernel version. So if you want it build the support in the kernel and it will work.

no, the DS button I'm speaking of, is one that let u make a "factory reset" of the controller, making it like new (speaking of paired devices) so u can pair again as it was new, that ususally solves when the PS doesnt recognize it properly, but I'd never had an xbox so I don't know if that exists on their controllers
Hope they get a fix for this. Got an xbox one controller to play both on PC and my s7 edge. But.. fook this
has anyone found a solution to this yet? im now running on nougat . just getting boot loop error. it finds the controller for less then a second. soon as the xbox one controllers rumble pack generates the "connected" rumble. it shuts the phone off
Samsung Galaxy S5 SM- 900V Rooted Android 7.1 CyanogenMod 14.1 kltevzw Build NDE63P crashes and goes into boot loop when I plug in OTG cable with Xbox 360 controller attached. The second I unplug it, everything is ok. Different ROM maybe? Trying to play games using Google VR so I need to run a controller or it sucks. I have stock 360 controller and a Powera 360 mini controller (preferred)
[[[[[[FIXED!!!]]]]two things but i really recommend the second option i will explain.. FIRST THING IS FIRST MAKE SURE UR PHONES USB DEBUGGING IS ON... EASY TO TURN IT ON.. GO TO SETTING , TAP ON ABOUT PHONE, TAP ON SOFTWARE INFORMATION TAP ON BUILD INTILL U SEE THE MESSAGE U ARE SO MANY TAPS AWAY FROM BECOMING A DEVELOPER. KEP TAPPING AND WELLA U R NOW A DEVELOPER .. BACK TO SETTINGS SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM SELECT DEVELOPER OPTIONS TURN ON THEN SCROLL DOWN TILL U SEE TURN ON USB DEBUGGING. PS U SHOULD HAVE THIS ON ANY WAY CAUSE IF U LOSE UR PHONE U WONT BE ABLE TO USE FIND DEVICE TO LOCATE UR PHONE.. ALSO WELL U R IN THE DEVELOPER OPTIONS GO AHEAD AND TURN OF WINDOW ANIMATION TRANSITION ANIMATION AND ANIMATOR DURATION SCALE YA DONT NEED THEM AND WATCH HOW MUCH FASTER UR PHONE WILL BE .. OK NOW WHAT YA ALL COME FOR (1) u can download usb/bt joycentre 2018 its green pic of joystick and following this video on how to use it..
.. now im jus saying but i have a generic x-box game pad controller i purchesed from walmart its corded no bluetooth option and tried this with the s7 edge and no luck the app said usb not reconized. u might have luck with a real xbox controller tho cause they support bluetooth and there is an option in the app to do the patch via blue tooth. U DO NOT NEED A ROOTED PHONE FOR THIS.. NO ROOT!! i dont have a ps3 controller to see if it works but the guy in the video that is what he uses and it worked .. now heres the funny thing .. what i got to work was a knock of ps3 controller off amzone.. i use an otg cable plugged it in to the controller plugged the other end into my phone and works like a charm as soon as i plugged it in.. now if it doesnt work give it a second or hold the ps3 home button down for a sec .. i swear this works. https://www.amazon.ca/Controller-Wi...2A9WRGN9BAB&psc=1&refRID=T73ZTYBBQ2A9WRGN9BAB.. now heres the funny part and was so freaking frustrating my walmart wired xbox game pad works on my new samsung tablet a7 but the ps3 controller wont.. the ps3 controller works on my s7 edge but the xbox controller wont. i was about to do bAck flips lol when i decided to just try a ps3 knock off controller and batta bing batta boom COD HERE I COME LMAO.. HOPE THIS HELPS MANG

Ps4 controller won't pair with Bluetooth

I wanted to use my PS4 controller for my emulators but it won't connect via Bluetooth (only works while connected with USB cable). I'm given the option to connect, but it either remains stuck at "pairing" or refuses to pair altogether. I made sure it was not connected to my PS4 , and my PS4 was still turned off. Any suggestions?
I have the same problem it pairs but it does nothing when I press the buttons

I did a little research about this problem and I don't know if this is true im going to test it tomorrow but apartly the early versions of the ps4 controller are problematic with working over bluetooth on samsung galaxy s7 I don't know if that's the case with the s8 like I said I will try to have a update tomorrow
Can someone please reply with an update? I have an older PS4 controller and in another thread, there is someone saying it DOES work.
Fix
Use Samsung smart connect in the app from play store. Use Bluetooth inside the app works on my s8+
