Hide Navigation bar option broken in May Security update - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I got the security update G950FXXU4DSDA (dated to 2019-04-01) a couple of days ago.
After the update I can no longer hide the navigation bar.
I've got a new button in the status bar called "Navigation bar" but it's greyed out and can't be used.
I used to have my navigation bar hidden and just swipe up from bottom of the screen to navigate. But that's not possible anymore.
I've searched frenetically for a solution or an answer, but can't find anything.
Reported it to Samsung yesterday.
Is this a known bug or did my phone just screw up after the update?
I'm thinking of factory reset my phone if that would help, but that's the last thing I want to do.

[Q] There are no icons in my status bar.

There are no icons in my status bar except some at the top right which I can't press. It's blank. Anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it?
I'm running Paranoid Android 4.6BETA6 on OnePlus One. Also the home button doesn't work (has feedback but does bring it to the home screen)
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I took a screenshot of the status bar (running Onyx theme to see if that fixed it, it didn't).
EDIT 2: Well, it has notifications through the pick up setting, but still not in the status bar. Also the lock screen won't trigger unless I restart my phone.
EDIT 3: Ahh, a factory reset fixed it, sorry for the question (and the very obvious answer), I just didn't want to lose my data.

How to hide permanently navigation bar

Hi guys, so with emui 5.0 you can hide the navigation bar but I noticed that it interferes with the bot part of the screen for instance when I press the space bar if I go too low it won't get pressed so I'd like to permanently disable them without root.
I noticed that there's a new guide that came out just a couple of days ago that involves adb but it would appear that it doesn't work on my nate 8. I set it to 1 and then reboot but nothing happens. Navigation bar is bad as usual.
Is there anything else that I can try without root?

Lock button in navigation bar?

My previous phone was a HTC One (M8) and the HTC software gave me the option to add a lock button in the navigation bar. I've grown very used to having one right there and I miss it this handy feature with my new LG G6, particularly because the hardware lock button is less accessible.
Is there an easy way of doing this without rooting and going the ROM root? I've tried installing the SystemUI Tuner but it does not have an option to add a new button to the navigation bar.
For what you need exactly, i think is hard.
But why do you need it? Just double tap in the status/notifications bar. Also, in Home and if using a custom laucher, double tap also should work.
For now just using knock on and knock on and off by double tapping status bar is what I do.
Thanks for the replies. I didn't realize you can knock the status bar to lock.
It's definitely a good temporary measure that I'll be using for now. Unfortunately, my hands can't comfortably reach the status bar to knock it, so I'll still be on the look out for a way to add a lock button to the navigation bar.

guestures(hidden) issue cant press home back or navigation, sometimes

recently flashed my s10+ to remove carrier branding and now sometimes i find that the navigation bar when completly hidden, swipe from bottom. sometimes locks its self and wont work at all i have to go to settings and change the navigation bar.
Using nova launcher but hasn't seemed like an issue before, but could also be from the january update? does anyone else have this similar issue when using the navigation bar as guestures swiping from the bottom of the screen?

Navigation Bar hidden

I swear it was at the bottom earlier, but after attempting to update ( I am rooted), it doesn't show at the bottom as before. I have to swipe up to show them. The settings only change it from on or guestures.
Somehow, I was able to get it back. Not posting the setting, as I am not sure what fixed it.
Now if I could get a date and not just the time on the status bar.
