mod can remove this post - Moto G6 Play Guides, News, & Discussion

To some missing info and inaccurate credits, I've removed this guide.

Interestingly enough, after this my software channel changed from "usc" to "sprint" But let me tell you, Android Pie is pretty amazing. For those who want the one button navigation bar - you'll find that in the MOTO app under "Moto Actions"

Jeter is g6 play, not g6. This guide is going to create many bricks. Your info is incomplete. The update was already posted by the person who captured it. @Starkiller2 is the one who was in the soak test and captured it.
No credits, incomplete, inaccurate information. You should remove this.
It's for the Sprint, boost, Virgin Mobile, Jeter. Moto G6 play.

I'm going to have to second this proposal. I haven't checked twrp yet, but that logo fix was pulled from my thread and reuploaded without proper credit as well. The md5sum matches my "Original" logo.

I would highly suggest that you at least remove the screenshots you uploaded. You posted your phone number and MEID for all the world to see.

[APK Teardown Exclusive] The HTC Myst Facebook Phone – The Facebook App Is Now A Laun

We’ve managed to score a system dump of the Facebook phone! There’s nothing in it that’s too earth shattering, and you could probably guess most of the features, but, since we’ve got it, we might as well take a look at it.
[This is not an April Fool's joke. I promise.]
Now, this being Facebook, nothing really works unless you sign in. The problem is, all of this is pre-release, so it’s set up to only work for Facebook employee accounts. Everything is basically packing unintentional always-on DRM, so screenshots are going to be a little sparse.
Source
And this system dump isn't available anywhere for download, right ?
(And yes I read the articles; No download URLs I saw.)
Yeah so........ you have the system dump but you're not going to share it with anyone???
Who are you talking to ?
Nobody here has it AFAIK.
One of the sites had an article author who had it, but AFAICT he hasn't released it and it hasn't otherwise been uploaded anywhere known.

Potential Bootloader Unlock for Non-Dev Edition

****OK FIRST OFF BY NO MEANS IS THIS METHOD A BRUTE FORCE METHOD OR A HACK OF SORTS****
***THIS METHOD INVOLVES PURCHASING A SERVICE AND PROVIDING YOUR DEVICES IMEI NUMBER****
***I, NOR ANYONE ELSE, IS NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU USE THIS AND SOMETHING DOES NOT WORK***
***IF SUCCESSFUL, YOU SHOULD ALSO KNOW THAT YOUR WARRANTY IS NOW VOIDED, BUT HEY YOUR HAVE AN UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER RIGHT?***
**SEE HERE FOR TWRP AND ROOT INT HIS THREAD INFO ONCE YOU ARE UNLOCKED**
UPDATE: See this post on pg 30 for TWRP and ROOT INSTALL
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51155272&postcount=294
Ok so as some know there has been a somewhat confirmed and discovered way to unlock the bootloader on carrier purchased Moto X/Droid Ultra/Maxx/Mini Devices. I will explain in brief detail what is needed to do. Please understand that I will be providing no links, just a brief explanation of what you can do to attempt this. There are 2 methods.
1 - doing it directly yourself and purchasing the service. (website)
2 - using the service through a 3rd Party (eBay)
The service I found is on a website if you have not heard about it, PM someone here willing to help. Now in order to use the site you need to sign up etc etc and its not in English. Here is where your good ol friend Goggle Translate comes into play.
Now for Method 1
Sign up on the website. The website is called taobao.com. you will need to use chrome and google translate to navigate through the site. you will need to set up and account and payment info etc etc.
Search for a seller selling the unlock codes (Price will no be in USD). Search for xt1080 unlock or something like that. There are many purchase options. Just amke sure it is for your device and read the listing.
Purchase using the sites standard payment method (similar to paypal here) or through credit card elligble for purchases in the country of origin.
*Provide IMEI to seller and receive unlock code.
Usually within 24-48 hours you have an unlock code.
*NOTE - If you do not feel comfortable providing this, then i suggest you stop right away. Always know what you are doing and the risks involved.
Method 2
Certain sellers on eBay will provide a service to do all the purchasing for you and all you need to do it pay the small auction price, and then paypal or transfer them the funds for the sale. They will purchase for you etc etc. You will need to search for taobao on eBay and find a seller. Once this is done then you can work with the seller, provide the link to the item you want and go from there. Please be aware of what you are doing. IN this method you now give your IMEI to not only the person giving the unlock code, but also a person through eBay.
**AGAIN PLEASE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING**
I myself went ahead with method 1 and was successful (see images). Some people have had success and will contest to it. As with any boot loader unlock, please know your warranty is now void and neither XDA, its members, or anyone else including myself is responsible for what you do.
Please use this thread to talk about success or failure using this process if you do. Do not post links to anything or anything that would be frowned upon through XDA. If you want to you can always PM people for more details about things. Not saying everyone bombard me with PM's. I will answer but i also have a normal life and don't want people upset if i don't respond.
Please also note that unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device clean. This includes storage.
If you want more detailed instructions - Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/verizon-moto-maker-bootloader-unlock-t2680651
Good Luck
UPDATE: IMAGES ATTACHED, I HAVE BEEN UNLOCKED. Sorry for the blurry cam pics, only had a work iPod touch that i could snap quick pictures with
As tempting as this is, I'll likely not opt for it. This phone is not a lifelong device, which, coincidentally, also temps me to, and not to do it. Naw, too risky.
fat-fingered and Maxx-ed out.
My concern is what will be done with all these imei numbers that are collected. It's not like they can't be stolen by company employees before the phone is ever bought... I think the big question would be what is the WORST that could happen by providing your imei if you can prove you legally purchased the device

I did option 2 yesterday. Just waiting on the codes now. I will update once I get the file and have the BL unlocked.

Yea thats the big risk. the other thing to think about to is that at any given time any employee has access to all the IMEI stickers on the boxes. all it takes is 1 person to screw around and thats that. im willing to take the risk for right now. if it works YAY...if not then well i'll get a refund and then probably dump the phone for a new one when something else comes out.
And this thread is the reason this method will not last very long.
People don't seem to understand, talking and making threads about such things in the open cuts down the time things like this are available.

Cmon, IMEI is not a secret code you can use to get full access to your phone or something else. It is written on the label of the box of very droid. This way any janitor in Verizon store has an access to the vital information. Seriously? You can generate all droids IMEI on your own, rules are known:

One would make a lot more money selling individual unlocks. 60+ sales would cover that. And think of other phones that use this method too. And likely not an exploit that can be released. But maybe a method that should be kept quiet

I have used the unlock code from the seller. It 100% works. I did refresh my phone which I didn't want to happen. Bad news is he informed me that he is getting out of selling the unlock codes and asked that I not share is information. I will respect his wishes. IDK if there are other people willing to sell the codes.

Queries for Honor

I know we have a thread to discuss source code, but I wanted to make a separate thread to solely address and discuss the queries and requests put in place to honor through @svetius.
I agree with @hackslash that it will be nice to have group of developers who are familiar with Kirin devices and are in good position to make appropriate requests.
I will like for this thread to remain solely about the requests and queries and nothing else. I will be updating as I go with @svetius communication outcomes, as he provides it.

The most important things we need are:
Proper documentation about the SoC and if possible, a Board Support Package for Kirin which will greatly boost development.
Proprietary blobs which don't include EMUI crap and Huawei's mistakes.
We already have the kernel source which thanks to Huawei was zipped in a non-case sensitive OS and the stock firmware images to extract vendor blobs (which don't work well with AOSP/CM).

Indeed, but I don't think that linking Honor to this or other thread is the best way to catch their attention. In my opinion, We should send them precise and concrete requests, maybe with a little description, to be more specific or maybe to explain why is it necessary.
This thread is a great starting point, everyone that wants to get involved could send their requests and whenever We have all of them, We can discuss and finally, send them. It's just an idea.

About the documentation of the SoC, the data sheet is already out, and almost everything is explained, so I don't know what will they send. (If you mean documentation about the inner ICs like the audio amplificator, communications, etc... Then it's a good choice)
About the blobs, those can be found inside emui and are already posted here.
About the board schematics, the schematics can be useful if you are an electrical engineer and want to hook up your Jtag cable, another useful application can be to figure out the GPIOs, but that isn't really going to help someone who wants to build a rom.
Please understand that this isn't a rant, I appreciate what you guys are doing in order to help us, but the communication with Honor is crucial.
I think another request that would attract people to play with their Honor 8 is the warranty void upon rooting.
If possible, please ask them to not void our device's warranty upon rooting it.
UPDATE: Agreed with @XePeleato, we don't need schematics if we are building a ROM, schematics are for those who wants to make it modular (LOL). TBH no schematics or design of the PCB is required if we just want to build ROMs.

For the SoC, I was thinking more in line with what you have stated, amplificator, communications, and things of that matter...I think it will be a good addition personally.
For the blobs, thank you for that inside info! So to understand, those are things we can grab from xda already from previous devices?
And ya, I can definently get your point about the board schematics.
Definitely sitting down and figuring out what is what will be a good start up and gives us a plausible standpoint to argue for the appropriate sources.
It seems you are familiar with emui? What are things that you feel we need personally?
My personal grip right now is the simple things...given the situation i feel having a stable and confirmed way for unlocking bootloader is a must. Additionally, having the firmware available for the u.s models should be a must.
It is not as though it was a simple device released in the wild and xda users decided to try their luck, no. Xda advertised for them...they conversed with them, for them to refuse to unlock users bootloaders is not acceptable.
Company wont release schematics for their board because Chinese fake manufacturers could copy it. I work for Asus and I'm repairing Notebook MB and ZenPads /eeePads motherboards and there's your PC IP and time with Asus logo watermark on schematics so you can't just screen it and post it somewhere. I agree with @mgbotoe that we need stock firmwares and easy way to unlock bootloader first (Edit: easy way like fastboot oem unlock and that's it, waiting for a code from Huawei to unlock can take some time but still hey we can at least unlock it and not to try work around it like for example on S7).
The Board Support Package is a must if we want true custom ROMs for our device. The Board Support Package is the proprietary source code the SoC vendor (HiSilicon) gives to the manufacturer (Huawei, in this case). The manufacturer tweaks the code to implement their stuff and packs those stuff in libraries. Huawei can open source some portion (if not all , HiSilicon won't allow it) of this BSP and this could really boost development. Documentations on how Huawei implements stuff is helpful and if coupled with Board Support Package, this could turn the tables for the development scene for Kirin devices.
I will do my best to give a general summation at chances given.
So the MUST thus far:
Board Support Package?
Official Firmware for all Models provided by Honor, (Specially U.S)?
Official Unlock of the bootloader through Honor, not a third party?
In the spirit of the partnership, and the honor hub...I think it doesn't hurt to push our luck haha

The blobs can be extracted from the stock rom, that is already posted here, and some of them are suitable for rom development, but some aren't, because some have missing dependencies that are available just in EMUI. For example, in order to enable the modem in the P8 Lite/Honor 4C, We needed to include a Java class that was reversed from the C++ libraries, the same happens with hardware graphic acceleration (We are currently working on it) because it needs some pieces of code, that are proprietary and not compatible with AOSP/CM.
I have written some basic documentation about the experience, and it might be useful to future developers.
About what I think it's necessary, at the OP I made a brief enumeration, and I still think it's reasonable.
EDIT: Saw your last post, the BSP would be more than enough.

Wait a minute, hold on. You can't unlock the bootloader through Honor? As it has been for all Huawei devices, you have to go here: https://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin.php?id=unlock&mod=detail and sign in with a phone account or an email account that has been used on an EMUI device for more than 15 days. I have requested 2 bootloader unlock codes from Huawei in the past and had no problems whatsoever. The unlock code is also provided immediately.
Official firmwares are only needed to restore to stock ROM if something bad happens. If you're rooted you can always use dd to extract all images manually from a running device.

See that's the thing... It doesn't work and I have ran it by couple of xder with the device where the option for honor 8 and the setup just does not go through. I brought it to honor attention and they sent me in a lot of circle just to tell me they do not support the unlocks of honor 8. Has it changed since? I do not know but third parties has been the option to unlock since last I was active in the forum. As for the firmware, I feel having a direct availability of it from honor will be nice in the spirit of the partnership and the hub.
If the user mess up process of rooting it will be nice to have, I feel it slowed a lot of people down initially and it should have been provided from the getko
I was able to unlock my phone through the Chinese version of the website (using google translator). The US site would just redirect back to the main page and not let you enter your information to unlock the phone. So it works, just needs to be a better process.

Will have to log back in my account on the chinese main and give it another shot. Otherwise was too much hoopla for me to get it unlocked with a direct unlocked codes.
If nothing works, we have to pay to DCUnlocker then. As they support unlocking Honor 8's bootloader.

So far there is only one, the Firmware (US model)
I wonder if @svetius ever got a response

[CLOSED][SamPWND]USA Model BL Unlock Info [U/U1/W]

Note: This Thread is @svetius Approved!
NOTE: Thread temporarily closed until OP returns
SamPWND Bootloader Unlock Service
Note2: This is an informational thread that links to a paid service. Paid service is not a service provided by XDA.
The service described in this thread is simply to provide a remote service that will unlock the bootloader on USA Samsung devices released from the S10 and newer devices. This includes S10, N10, S20, N20, S21, Flip/Fold models, Tab S7 etc. devices which typically will have the letter U, U1, W or in some carrier specific cases might have a different letter, for example, N976V is Verizon N10! 5G model which is also unlockable. This service is not for Exynos variants or China/HK variants that are already unlockable by default.
Due to the nature of this service, there is no exploit that exists. It is also device specific so it is impossible to release any sort of exploit or method that would work on every device due to it being device specific. I will explain more of the process below but please understand that individual files are needed for me to purchase to unlock your devices and of course that is why this service is not able to be provided for free. You all know from my past experiences and posts that if I could provide a free method I would have already done so.
Spoiler: Process
1. First you should be sure to read the FAQ's and all other information on the website and in this thread etc. then be 100% sure that unlocking is what you want to do. Read the notes/disclaimers, refund policy, etc. etc.
2. If you decide unlocking through this service is what you want to do, proceed to the website REMOVED and in the menu go to the "Purchase" tab.
3. Be sure to read each step clearly and enter in accurate information. Form is designed to help walk you though getting your OneUI version, bootloader version, the correct DID etc. etc. It also includes a brief description of the refund policy as well as a signature box to sign just iindicating that you have read everything and agree. This is also done so that if you are on a device or a specific update/bootloader version that cannot be unlocked then it will tell you so and will not allow you to make a payment or will show 0$. If you can unlock your device, it will show you the price and allow you to make a payment once you have completed the form.
4. It will take 1-2 business days (not counting weekends, holidays, as well as life events such as if I get sick or life happens or my source is not available at the time etc.) to have the payment hit my bank account at which time I will send to my source to obtain your unlock "token."
5. Once token is received, I will proceed to message you on Telegram or Discord (whichever you prefer, you have the option to leave your username for both when filling out the form) and will send Instrucitons in a txt file along with modded ODIN (in case you don't already have it) as well as your unlock token so that you can unlock your device at your earliest convenience!
Spoiler: Notes
I wanted to try and keep the XDA threads short and clean so any notes or FAQ's you have questions for I suggest you view the website including the FAQ's first as well as the support group on TG is a good place to talk to others who have already unlocked or planning to unlock using this service as well as you can ask in this thread as usual.
The "Purchase Form" on the website when filled out correctly based on your device will tell you if your device is unlockable or not so fill that out first and if unlockable it will tell you the price at the end of which you can either pay or not depending on what you decide!
Spoiler: Disclaimers
-IMPORTANT - Do NOT blindly update if you are unlocked already or if you plan to unlock your bootloader via this service. Sammy has incremented the bootloader and updated some devices to OneUI 3.1 which breaks the BL unlock. Devices still on the same rev (i.e. S20 at time of this writing) then you can just flash back an older OneUI firmware and device will be unlocked again. If you update to OneUI 3.1 on new bootloader version then you likely will lost the unlock and can't downgrade (i.e. S20FE on rev2/3, N20 and S21 Models on rev2). That said, there are some devs posting some "safe" update files to allow you to update to latest firmware without losing your unlock so before taking any updates always check in the support group first. You have been warned!
- This method will unlock the bootloader allowing you to use custom firmware, custom kernels and everything else that is allowed with an unlocked bootloader including Magisk root.
- Please read the policies on the website including refund policy. Proceeding with the unlock service assumes you have read everything including the policies and decided to continue with the service.
- This DOES NOT unlock your SIM or carrier/network. it is NOT a SIM unlock.
- This process modifies the steady partition. Therefore if you end up messing with this partition or get another remote service such as combo flash or sim unlock service etc. that messes with the steady partition then you might overwrite the unlock and essentially relock the bootloader. Chances are if you have no idea what a steady partition is then I would not worry about it at all.
- Knox will be tripped. This means apps that rely on Knox flag not being tripped will no longer work i.e. Secure Folder, Samsung Pay etc.
- Once the device is unlocked, if for whatever reason it is locked again then it cannot be unlocked anymore. So make sure that once you unlock the bootloader that this is the choice you want to make and you want it unlocked.
- This service is strictly to unlock the bootloader. It is not a root thread, ROM service etc. What you choose to do with your device after being unlocked is your choice. Once device is unlocked, this thread/service will have served it's purpose. Links to other threads sources will likely be provided in another post just so users who are unlocking will have an easy reference and to keep this thread clean.
Spoiler: Feedback/Complaints
If you have any complaints about the service or want to provide feedback then please do so via PM and/or the contact page on the website or via TG/Discord if we have already spoke there etc. Do not bother the forum moderators with complaints regarding the service itself because they are not affiliated with the service and I simply got permission to post about and talk about the service. I assume this isn't something usually granted but I'd like to believe due to me being a long time member, contributor, developer and moderator that an exception was made. Keep in mind, if this somehow get's out of hand or goes south I am sure I will end up having to delete this thread. Let's not let it get to that point!
Spoiler: Purpose
- This is not a get rich quick scheme or something to make money. Trust me, I wouldn't even bother with this if my purpose was to make money because it is not very lucrative to say the least. There is cost involved with purchasing the actual unlock, site costs, payment gateway fees to be able to accept payments, time and effort to process the unlocks etc. so take all of that into consideration when weighing the cost.
- It has been years since USA models had a device that could be unlocked. I have spent countless weeks researching security since the S8. I released root methods for S8 devices as well as the S9/N9 devices at a later time which took a long time to figure out and that was just a basic root method. I was skeptical at first about this unlock process but trusted my sources and when I first unlocked my device I did various testing and concluded it is legit! At this time no one else knew about it, couldn't talk about it, etc. By word of mouth (until now), many devs/users have unlocked their device using this service. TWRP threads have popped up, some custom ROM threads have started popping up etc. The hope of going public is we get a lot more users purchasing and unlocking their devices (when it otherwise is not possible) and drives the development for USA devices.
XDA is the ONLY place I have published this post and would like to keep it that way. You are NOT allowed to create your own posts in regards to this service and if I see any other posts around this service I will ask to have it removed. You can however link to this XDA post if anyone has questions as to how your device was unlocked.
Spoiler: Website
Note: If you frequented the website before, I have removed the "forum" function from the website since we can discuss everything here on XDA in this thread so there is no need for a forum to be attached to my website any longer. Registration on the website is not required for anything. You can view the shop and purchase the service or view the ROM's section to see some of my SamPWND ROM's and download them etc. if you like all without registering or anything.

I can also vouch for this service. The process is very quick and straightforward. Loving my unlocked Note20 Ultra on AT&T.

No need to question this. All involved were great, and I appreciate it. Loving my rooted At&t 20 Ultra.
Wanted to post & confirm this is legit & after my first samsung(note 4), I now have root on my Note 20 Ultra, whoo-muthaf*ckin hoo!! ; ) Great to see that elliwigy has found the workaround & I am happy to pay the fee especially since he was the primary developer trying to acheive root back then! Well done sir!
I wanted to leave yet another comment as to the legitness of the OP's offer. Worth the money and super quick turnaround. Never thought I'd get to use Viper audio again!
Thanks again!

Hi Elliwigy,
I am planning on purchasing a BL unlock for my SM-G975U but your website shop is for S10 and does not say S10+, which is what my phone is. So before I make the purchase, I'd just like to confirm that this will work for my S10+, SM-G975U. Otherwise, I'm all set to go. Thanks for your time and help, and congradulations with finding a cure to the locked BL on the USA variants!
