Has anyone got wifi tether router working on moto g7
I am curious about this also. I have an old Verizon plan and have been waiting to buy this phone until I know that the hot spot feature has been hacked.

You are talking about different thing.
The OP asked about if the app "wifi tether router" works, not the built-in wifi tethering. The app can bypass carrier tether account verification so it will allow users to use tether even if the user's plan doesn't have tether.

Our plan is a very old unlimited plan and Verizon has never allowed us native WiFi tether. The WiFi tether on her unbranded phone worked right out of the box.
In the past I had to root and then apply some kind of patch to get it working on what ever phone she had at the time. Her new G7 is unrooted because she has no need or desire for root apps like I do. I assume (we all know the trouble that causes) that because it is the unbranded version of the G7 that the switch that is normally turn off on a Verizon branded phone has been left on. She dropped and broke it a week ago and then bought a new one which came last night. Same thing. Put the Sim card in and began using WiFi tether.
Now I suppose it is possible that Verizon has changed its policy and out of kindness and generosity has decided that because we are such long term customers we can just have native tethering.

I'm not sure about wifi but you can tether with SuperProxiod and a setting your browser to use it as a proxy.

What happened to the hotspot free for a month that was discussed all over the internet prior to launch?
Im not sure what happened with that but if you don't mind rooting the phone the wireless tether.apk works for the Evo

I ran the unrevoked root over the Toast root and now the wireless tethering works great! Using it to send this from my laptop!

i think the free hotspot for a month thing only works if you are in a 4g market.....
My Sprint Hotspot is working and has been since launch day, and I didn't get the tethering.

I talked to a Sprint rep today, some people got signed up for the $29 hotpot plan automatically, those who are using the hotspot app might want to check their sprint phone bill to validate.

i have the unrevoked and wifi tether for rooted evo is still not working. my ipod touch still does not see it. im so flustered with this. can someone help me to get wifi tether working?

I'm pretty sure the "free month" was just a bug and that it was going to be a month until they fixed it. Also I'm pretty sure it was just 4G tethering, not 3G.

Interesting note... The words from Sprint at the bottom don't seen to condemn other tethering options. They just say that the $29/mo option comes with more reliability and the ability to tether up to 8 devices. Which is a valid point.
I wonder who the intended audience was. Probably more for sales people to sell the tethering option to folks than admitting that other options exist.
So I found a patch that lets you use the 3g mobile hotspot for free. I was just wandering if anyone else has tried it, and if so were you ever charged for anything extra on your bill.
I like being able to use my phone with Infrastructure Wifi but dont want to be charged for something I can do for free.
When I say 3g Mobile Hotspot I mean the app that comes with the droid 2 originally and also uses your phone in infrastructure.

Because this allows for actually using Infrastructure mode instead of just Ad Hoc.
And I was just wandering if anyone has used this and not recieved any flak from Verizon? Rather not use this for a month and get an extra 50 dollars added to my bill.
i have verizon since crackberry 8130 was cool with no-pay tethering and i've used my droid eris for tethering and my data was at 1.4gb one month with no vz flack. haven't had usb tethering on my d2. I am curious about getting wifi hotspot enabled.

I downloaded Barnicle Wi-Fi tethering and it works decently. However, after downloading PDAnet, all I do now is USB tether. It much more efficient and stays connected. Barnicle would sometimes flak off and get down to 0kbs but haven't had that problem with PDA.
The FCC has ruled that charging $20/month for wifi tethering was illegal and fined Verizon 1.25 million for charging us that fee. I ran Barnacle tether on my Droid X and used it as a hotspot for my Nook Color. I didn't get the Verizon $20/month screen. Sweeeet!

Not the case today...I'm getting that very page telling me I have to pay up if I want to tether...and I'm rooted.
Verizon probably won't release an update just to remove the inability to tether on the Droid X, I doubt they're under that much legal pressure.
You might want to try calling Verizon with the information from the FCC and see if they will add tethering to your plan, free of charge.
If they do follow through with the ruling --leave it to big red to always find a loophole -- it will probably be on upcoming devices.

Just use the tbh hack, now that its legal verizon cant do squat. I believe you can file a complaint with the fcc if you really want. I know i would.

621-rooted Tether options
I acquired a DroidX already OTA to 621. I got it rooted etc and have been running SteelDroid and 621_Modded_1.0_kY-Signed.zip.
SteelDroid allows me to use Wifi Tether fine, but USB Tether does not work.
kY-Mod does not have USB Tether (from Settings/Networks) but it has "3G Wifi Hotspot" built in. This redirects me to some VZ DUN crap page. But if I run Wifi Tether (aka Barnacle aka Wireless Tether) the 3G Wifi Hotspot fires off in the background. No wireless tethering working, plus it breaks my PagePlus programming until I reboot.
I'm wondering if anyone is satisified with USB or Wireless tethering on 621 rooted... ? I'm guessing that THB Hack still works even on 621 and that is the only way?
(consequently, I've been trying to remove "3G Wifi Hotspot" but it seems embedded in Settings.apk.)

Theres no reason the tbh hack shouldnt work. Just do some research and find the appropriate version.
Its been a couple years for me since I installed it but have used it on : d2,d2g,dx,dx2.
IF you are getting the V.zon redirect page its pretty obvious this hack is still the way to go.... why pay for an app from playstore?
If you are running a custom rom PLEASE research these things before you go and install something like this.
this will require bootstrap or cwm to install, or rom manager.

Sorry to bump an old thread. I work for vzw. Just an FYI, if you call asking for us to add it for free, we can't. There's no way to do so. If we add the mhs feature, there's a charge, and no way around.
The thing is, that fine was imposed on Verizon by the FCC for charging certain 4G LTE customers for tethering. They bought a certain frequency spectrum and the FCC added it into the contract that they couldn't charge for certain things like tethering. I believe it's only in a few markets and doesn't have any effect on 3G (like our beloved Droid X)
I looked into the case to see if somehow I could use it against Cricket a few months back, but after reading how the contract was worded, the actual viability of me starting an uprising with Cricket customers became nil. Verizon still has the full right to charge for tethering so long as your phone doesn't run on this frequency spectrum. Sorry guys
Turns out this isn't just asinine, it violates an FCC regulation. You see, Verizon owns a special segment of spectrum at 700 MHz. The purchase came with a rule: Verizon had "to allow customers to freely use the devices and applications of their choosing." But Verizon turned around and broke the rule anyway. To help set things right, Verizon also accepted a $1.25 million fine.

Hi, I want to share a found, I was playing around with my phone this afternoon, I found if you use Ti backup to freeze TetheringProvision4.06.67 on your ATT note 3, the tethering feature will work(before it asked me to call 611), the mobile hotspot app will crash at first then come right back on, the USB tethering works even better, just plug your USB cable into your computer.
I have no tether plan, I have an ATT note 3 rooted, it is running 4.3 with the latest firmware ending BNB4.

I think they can still catch you, especially because this method does nothing to hide the tethered data usage, like PDAnet does.
However I've tethered about ~500mb with a similar method and never got caught before, no warning or anything. If anything they'll warn you, and if you continue they'll probably bump up your plan.

I found WiFi Tether Router on the GP store and it works on the Note 3. The developer is great and was very helpful when I ran into problems. Initially, it did not work on the Note 3 and he refunded me. A couple months later, a buddy told me that the author got it working. So, I bought it and BOOM...it just works.
I would use this with caution. I used foxfi or pdanet(don't remember which one) to tether my note 2 to my macbook air and for about a month this worked(used it very sparingly maybe 300mb out of my unlimited plan). Then one day I get a message saying that since I tether they will change me a to a more suitable plan(att's way of saying **** YOU). In conclusion I lost my $30 unlimited plan(No way of getting this plan back, I talked to att floor manager for over an hour) and now have a $50 5gb thethering plan(they let me downgrade to the 2gb or 3gb plan, but it was not enough data for my use).

I used to use this back on 4.3 before root, but no rom'ed with 4.4. The only issue I ever ran into is ATT throttling me at 5gigs but that wasn't just tethering.
My question is, what firmware are you on?
I've done the same thing and froze the tethering provision. However, the tether menu doesn't show connected devices like yours. Like the allowed devices or the configure. When I hit menu it only shows a help tab.

I have a Verizon with a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I used to use it a lot with my Samsung Galaxy S3 but a forced update broke this functionality. I would like to upgrade phones and want to know if the Moto X Style/Pure can do subscription-less wireless hotspots? If so, how?
I will venture a guess and say that FoxFi won't work on this. From my small amount of research so far, it sounds like FoxFi doesn't work on Motos. Poeple have also seemed to have bad luck with other app store tethering apps on the Motos. With that said, this being "unlocked," I don't know if the native tethering settings will work.
Either way, I'm assuming if this has an unlocked bootloader and we can root... I'm sure there will be a way around.

Thank you for answering my question. Do you know if it makes a difference if I purchase a Moto X Style vs a Pure?
My assumption is that the Style will be locked by Verizon while the Pure should not be locked? If it is the same thing, I will buy a style since I can get that subsidized with a 2 year plan if this is not the case I will purchase a Pure from a third party.
I have used foxfi in the past with moto phones. I have not needed it since loosing my unlimited data. Those phones were on pre 5.0 android. I have not kept up to see if they have updated it to work on 5.0 and later.

On the droid turbo, nothing worked.
However as long as we get root, which I think will happen. They can modify the apk not to check for hotspot provisions.

Since this is an unlocked phone, wouldn't it work just like how Nexus devices work? I assumed that since you wouldn't have any of Verizon's software it wouldn't do the tethering check.

Me too! If I can tether out of the box, I won't need to root either, though I'll probably unlock the bootloader on day 1, since that wipes the device.
I read elsewhere that it is advisable to do the initial setup over wifi, with no sim, to prevent the device from downloading and VZW software that may prompt the device to check for subscription before starting hotspot.
I know it isn't that hard to watch a tutorial and root, but with OTA's popping up, it would be nice if I didn't need to root.

If you're unlocked and rooted, you don't need Foxfi or any other third party app. Native Hotspot works fine

Not true. I'm with Straight Talk (AT&T) and it wouldn't let me tether. There is a provisioning check. I had to root to get tethering.
Straight Talk is not ATT. It uses other carriers networks to provide service. That's not the same as having serivce directly from ATT. I have Verizon and ATT, tethering worked on both without root.
I'm on Sprint 10+ years and I root and enable native tethering on all of my phones since the Evo.Sprint has never said a word.I average 20-30 GB of data a month .

Hi, have a quick question. I am on a simply everything plan at sprint for 70 bucks a month. But they check if I use the unlimited data with my hotspot. If I tether they limit the data to 3 GB a month and charge if I get over that. Is there a way to get around that?
