Really fassst

Just a little over 1 second. And that 1 second is actually the camera app's opening animation, so basically you can hit that Shutter button almost instantly as it appears. Its that fast.
Haven't tried burst mode (if there's any), but for Portrait mode, there's slight delay when the phone is saving the image before you can take another shot.
And in NightScape mode, you need to hold the phone for 2-3 seconds before moving away from the subject, and another 2-4 seconds to wait the image saving process. The result really worth the wait, though.
Update: Burst Mode works by holding the Shutter button, and the app will count from 1-10 (within less than 2 seconds) when taking images. After 10 shots, the Burst will automatically stops. In Gallery app, there will be icon denoting that an image is from Burst Mode. When you tap it, you can choose 1 or some or all photos to be saved.

Love the double-tap home button action to open the camera app. I find myself taking more pictures because I can snap a picture so insanely fast. Love it.
Camera app is great!
What can I say about how fast you can open the camera app? The phone comes with the default setting of hitting the home button twice. The camera app launches fairly quickly, not at formula 1 speeds, but fast enough for you to take a quick photo or video. Good job Samsung
The camera launches in under a second: I tried to shoot a stopwatch launched simultaneously with first tap on Home button, and there was 0.96 on the quickest shot I made.

I've seen some chatter about the photo app loading or snapping slowly. I have not experienced this. It's fine. Push the button and it captures in less than a second or faster every time.
Yep, the camera isn't the fastest I've ever used, but is def no slow by any means.
I'm not sure if it's just me. But the camera app takes a lot of time to load sometime and also hangs. It struggles to switch to the other camera. I've seen this happen information even after installed Google Camera App. I'm now concerned about it as it could be the the camera itself.
The pictures are great when it works. But its not as quick and fast as my previous X Play or X Style.
Any help to fix or in the right direction would be great. This is just a week old phone. Nothing done to the OS.
The time it takes to open the camera from standby is 1-2 seconds.
The time it takes to take a shot is on par with other highend phones I used (Huawei P10, HTC 10).
The time it takes to focus is instantaneous since this has a dual pixel phase detection auto focus (same as Galaxy S8). Definitely faster than my HTC 10.
The time it takes to save a picture when HDR is NOT triggered is on par with other highend phones.
The time it takes to save a picture when HDR is triggered is ~2 seconds (same as HTC 10).
Try turning off HDR (turn off auto HDR) and you'll see how fast the camera is.
It's the auto HDR processing that causes some delay when SAVING the pictures.

No lag in launch and shutter at all.
takes 1 second from lock screen to camera then to take a picture. Its fast
It's pretty bad according to my experience. A lot of digital noise that I don't take photos as often anymore. and what's sad is it's all on the software end

For me it's really bad... Sometimes takes 2 seconds to open camera and then the camera viewfinder needs 2 more seconds to load.
It's pretty darn fast, whether to load or to shoot, click and done.
For me is pretty fast, test:
1. Reboot phone and wait for auto screen off
2. Double press Power button
3. Capture photo using VolUp key
Time needed between 2 and 3 is only 1sec
not so fast for me after the latest V2.2 update

I'm using these steps too and it takes hardly 2 seconds. I stopped at 1.91 seconds.

For me, launching the camera is nearly instant. I've been able to take at least ten photos in about 25 seconds with little blur. I'll admit that's in daylight or other well lit instances.
Even in low light, I can snap at least a couple of photos quickly and gain some usable photos. I can thank the image stabilizer, and f1.8 aperture for that.
The Moto Gestures for the camera is a godsend. (Twist twice to open the camera app.) I can take candids with this phone with ease and the read-write capability of the phone is extremely quick.
the app is fast to launch, but there is often shutter lag. I was walking around taking pictures and noticed I had a few shots of the ground as I lowered the phone too soon!

it actually bothers me.. from clicking the capture to having the photo saved it takes a good 1 second.
This in turn translates in blurry , shaken, lost moments.
Try this: click the capture then drag your phone. The photo will be from while you drag your phone. I tried a lot of apps, all are consistent to this problem.
The app opens almost instantly. the main shooter is very fast and saves pics fast. the Tele lens is making you wait like 3 seconds! and the portrait is taking forever to take one photo you have to wait like 4 - 5 seconds to take another one.
The video is also **** cause of the dropped frames and its not even 60FPS!
Hope an update will fix all above
