Lost Fastboot??!! - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Ok.....so after my other issues i have posted here in this thread...which still appears to be unanswered.....
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/help/modem-issue-t3917268
I have noticed that i do not have fastboot!!! i cannot get to it neither through Axon7Toolkit, not through ADB, and neither through the black warning screen if i hold Volume (-) and select "fastboot", the phone just boots on to the system. I have done EDL flashes through the djkuz's app and it doesn't seem to do anything really, as my computer recognizes just as before and with adb permissions not needed. I though the EDL flash formats data as well........
Do I have a partition missing???? If so, how can I restore it? what is a sure cut way to return as if to stock truly like purchased from ZTE themselves??
Any help guys would be much appreciated

Fastboot functionality is gone after stock B19.
If you want fastboot, you're going to have to EDL flash B19 Chinese firmware, that's the only one that has fastboot afaik. You're not missing a partition, the phone rebooting to system after selecting fastboot is normal.

Hey thanks for that for that answer. I was hoping that was the smoking gun.......So if you don't mind.....if you know....I pretty sure it was discussed here somewhere......what exactly is the "vendor" partition? That to me is a bit new as I do that recall that being a "common" partition as like modem, or recovery etc....there's got to be something missing that is not letting my phone get signal anymore...I can pop my SIM card in and it'll receive a message that I have "voicemail" if I have one that's still new, but it won't get service......I know for sure it has to be something software related.........

Are you 100% sure it's not a hardware problem? The phone not getting signal anymore can be due to many reasons.
Check the SIM card, make sure it's not defective. Try inserting it into another phone and check if it works. If it works in the other phone, then you've ruled out the SIM card.
Check the SIM card slot, make sure no pins are bent or broken. Check that the SIM card goes into the phone correctly, and if you've previously opened up the phone then check if there's any internal damage.
If you believe it's a software problem, try these:
Try resetting the APN (Settings>Network & Internet>Mobile Network>Access Point Names), or manually retype your APN (You can find this by googling for your carrier's apn eg; TMobile APN).
Check that your IMEI is still good, you can do this by inserting the SIM and heading to the Dialer, and typing *#06#
Check that your IMEI still shows up and make sure it doesn't show Null.
Go into your Dialer again and type
*#*#4636#*#*
It will bring up a menu, click on Run Ping Test and check if your phone shows Connected.

Hard Bricked my Verizon LG G2

Hello, I am a new member and I'm having a hard time trying to fix my phone.
Currently, I can't go into any mode. I have neither fastboot or download mode.
I also can't get into my twrp through factory reset since it tries to reboot my phone.
However, whenever it tries to reboot, I get error: Boot certification verify and the screen goes dark.
I have tried to solve it by following this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 but nothing has worked so far.
Can anyone please help me?

By that do you mean you can't even get to the factory reset screen at all? Or you do get there but when you select the option to reset, it simply reboots at that time?

I get there and selecting reset reboots the phone. However, an error about phone ceritication verify pops up
If you have access to a Windows machine, plug it in while on that dark screen and open device manager. Does anything show up relating to Android, Qualcomm, etc? If need be, unplug it while watching device manager then replug. Is the device showing up at all and if so, what's it called?
edit: also try long pressing power for 15 seconds to turn off the device completely. Then short press power (2-3 secs) as though restarting the phone from an off state. Does it boot into the OS then or no?

Hmm, that's not so good. Most of the people who've been experiencing this have accepted either willingly or unknowingly, the new vzw ota update. But others have still been able to boot into the OS normally. It's booting to system from recovery that's been the only problem for them which makes sense considering aboot and boot were updated with the ota. That will break the loki <>TWRP connection since we need a downgraded aboot (JB) and a patched kernel for proper function. Hence the secure boot error.

I would hold tight for awhile and see if anybody else has a more simple plan because I do not. The only thing I can think of with no boot, no recovery, no download mode AND no bulk mode, is to try and force bulk mode as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404
...then use Linux to fix as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
(though I would ammend those intructs slightly to include the dd writing of boot and laf also to restore download mode)
...and then use a restored download mode to return to stock using a vs980 tot as described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
An unfortunately long and less than simple path back to a booting phone, especially for someone new to root. Again, hopefully somebody else can offer up a better plan.
Be very careful

I was in exact same spot, until I got into the dd / phone partitions part under Linux. AN ERROR THERE COULD BE FATAL.
Please be very careful, look for a thread on recovering from "Secure Boot Error" (havent found one specific for that yet) Alot of people had success using the Linux method, I did not (vs980) probably because of a typo (keyboard error, mine) using the dd command.
I'm not saying don't try it, I AM saying use extreme care make no keyboard errors

It seems like i have messed my phone up really badly.. Thank you for the ideas but yes, I will continue to look for more options for now
Edit: I have never tried the first method you showed me before but I have tried the second and the third method and did not work. Would I be able to fix it if I take it to a shop?

[Q] Screen cracked and unresponsive but display still visible. Need help getting data

Hi guys,
I recently dropped my Nexus 4 on the floor today and the screen cracked. As a result, the screen is completely unresponsive now but I am able to see its display when I press the power button. Could you guys help me/point me in the right direction regarding how to get the data I have on the phone (music, photos etc.) please.
My Nexus is unrooted/stock version. I tried connected it to my laptop via USB, but all it does it charge. I think I might have the USB debugging option enabled (as I remember enabling it before sometime ago). I'm running the latest firmware (5.0.1 I believe). Also the bootloader is locked.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
EDIT: I should note that I have a Password (PIN) for the lock screen.
I installed android sdk and tried to enter commands, but it didn't work. When I typed in 'adb devices', no serial came up (I checked sdk manager for the google usb driver, and it says it's installed). Also, when I tried typing in anything i.e. 'adb shell' it said error no devices found. I was attempting to follow a guide to set up adb for any other steps required to get my data from the internal storage. Bear in mind, I don't have much knowledge on these tools, all I'm doing is following any guides. Please can you help me how to get my photos or the contents of the sdcard.
The pin is not letting you boot into the os and that's why adb isn't working. Can you get into the bootloader? If so boot into twrp then try adb
fastboot boot twrp.img. Where twrp.img is the full file name.

Thanks for responding. I can enter the bootloader (if that's the Volume Down + power button menu). Quick google search shows that twrp is for customer recovery. Bear in mind that I haven't unlocked the bootloader or installed anything like recoveries before (it is basically a stock N4). Would I need to install it? If so, please could you direct me to a tutorial or guide me step-by-step on what to do as I don't have too many ideas on what to do to get the data from the phone.
Just to clarify: My N4 is completely stock, Bootloader is locked (says 'LOCK STATE - locked' in bootloader menu) and it is unrooted. I remember having the USB debugging option enabled the last time I was in the dev menu on the phone.

We'll you've got a problem. You'll have to unlock the bootloader to run fastboot commands and that'll completely wipe your device. And with the pin and an unresponsive screen you can't get into the os. There really isn't anything you're going to be able to do to save your files. Sorry about that.
Edit, just one more thought, are you still on 4.4.4? If so there may be a hope. Shoot, you'll need to boot into the os though. So my idea isn't going to work.

Ah that was what I feared ... I'm running the latest firmware (5.0.1). I wouldn't really care about the phone if it weren't for a few images (should have had it backed up!).
Now I need to decide whether or not to change the screen etc. for £35 or just look in the market for a new phone. If I did buy a new screen/digitiser/frame thing, would these be suitable (where I won't need to use heat guns or glue and stuff)?
ebay (dot) co.uk/itm/LCD-Screen-Display-Touch-Digitizer-for-LG-E960-Google-Nexus-4-Frame-Replacement-/331224787829?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item4d1e892b75
OR

Also, if I did change it using the above, would dissembling the phone and reassembling it cause my data to be lost?
Thank you for your help
Edit: I managed to save about 80 photos which were probably in the default images folder in the SD card using AndroidLost. I'm guessing the other images which were in other folders i.e. WhatsApp Images etc. aren't recoverable using the site

LG US996 keeps going into Firmware update.

tl;dr
Hey guys, The title says it all basically. So here's the actual issue. My US996 was running great. Then, a week or so ago it just randomly started getting super sluggish. Today, I turned it off and when i turned it back on, it went right into the "firmware update" screen. I pulled the battery, played it with then got it into the recovery screen. Only thing is, i was able to move up and down using the Vol down button and power button but, i couldnt actually go into anything. So i once again pulled the battery, and now it wont do anything but go back into the "firmware update" screen. after playing with it some i finally got into the Fast Boot screen. which allowed me to do nothing. I pulled the battery again and it wont do anything but go to that "firmware update" screen.
I have tried using Uppercut to flash it. But when the LGUP program does it's reboot it dumps me right back off on the same screen. Since Uppercut and the correct KDZ are not working. Is it a hardware or software issue?
Also please forgive me, I do not understand all of the Android terms. Like, I am not sure what ADB means. I am a bit tech savvy.
Try using LG Bridge. It will reset your phone to complete stock, but it should fix up your phone.

I've tried that, Uppercut, pretty much everything. I think it's the dreaded bootloop issue. When I connect it to Bridge it tells me "no updates available" . Or, the update failed.

I did. It went through the update process on the phone. But, once again, when the phone restarted the it went right back to the "firmware update " screen. That tells me it's a hardware issue, right?
This doesn't make sense. If you had a bad NAND then the flash would fail because it wouldn't pass the hash check. If you had a bad CPU, it wouldn't be able to just load firmware update.
I am guessing that you have a corrupt misc, persist or persistent partition.
Use the patched LG UP to dump misc, persist and persistent. Then...
With the phone off, hold vol down and plug in the USB cable. That should that you to fastboot. If it does:
fastboot format misc
fastboot format persist
fastboot format persistent
Let me know what happens. If that fixes your phone, I can help you determine which partition is corrupt and help you fix it.

I do appreciate your help. I attached a photo of what the ADB command prompt was telling me. but if for any reason you can't see it. It's telling me formatting isn't supported. Perhaps I'm using the wrong cmd
Weird.
Try erase instead of format.

Yeah. Everything about this situation is baffling. It just randomly started to happen.
Also, That command didnt work.
Did you unlock the bootloader with the bin file or using DirtySanta?
If it was with the bin file, you need to unlock it again. If you used DirtySanta, there is nothing that can be done. When you flashed the KDZ it replaced aboot, and now you can't fix the corrupt partition unless you can unlock it again.
I always tell people that if you have TWRP, don't ever flash the KDZ to try and fix your phone. There is nothing that it will do that you can't do if you have TWRP, and in your case you have an issue with a partition that isn't flashed by the KDZ ... and now no way to fix it.
Sorry, just reread your first post. I read recovery the first time and just assumed TWRP, but you meant the "vol down / press power" screen.
Is it possible an OTA got taken? Either way, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no fixing this except sending it to LG.
---------- Post added at 07:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 AM ----------
Actually, send me a PM. I can send you a tool that can wipe those from download mode. You may be able to save your phone yet.
I didn't try to root the device. It did all this on its own. The device is still under warranty. I got in contact with LG about it. They sent me an RMA. All i tried to do was use Uppercut to try and fix it. Everything was stock on it when it did this. I purchased it brand new unlocked from B&H Photo. But, nonetheless thank you for your time and effort to help me.
I'm going to send out back to LG. But, i wouldn't mind getting that tool from you. I like LG devices. So i do plan on getting more.
I had the same issue. The phone was locked onto the firmware update and I could not override it. Pulling the battery and trying to re-flash the phone would not work. LG could not resolve it unless I sent the phone in for repair. ($42.00 + Shipping both ways)
This is what finally worked. Use the USB cord from your charger and connect the phone to a computer then power up the phone. This will override the firmware update and let the phone boot up normally.
Good Luck.
I gave up on this phone a while ago because of this issue. The only way i could start it up was if it was plugged in.. recently i started playing around with it again due to aosp second screen and started looking into the issue again. I forget where (it wasnt on xda) but i read that putting a little bit of water on the c type plug that goes into the phone fixes the issue. I dont know how or why someone discovered this and i first thought that it was someone joking or being malicious but i tried it and after 8 fricken months my phone can boot untehered!

Soft Brick, A2017G, Bootloader unlocked, Stock Recovery

(or is it hard brick)
Hi,
A2017G
Started with marshmallow,
Unlocked bootloader
attempted to install Slim7
seemed to work but with some possible errors, (wouldn't sync with google... retrospect I should have looked elsewhere before...)
attempted in install stock rom
using
ZTE_A2017GV1.2.0B04_BootStack_by_tron1.zip
ZTE_A2017GV1.2.0B04_Stock_System_by_tron1.zip
which wouldn't boot
So I tried reinstall Slim7
then stock again,
then, like the noob that I am, I removed twrp with
ZTE_A2017GV1.2.0B04_Full_Stock_Reverter_by_tron1.zip
which installs stock recovery
so, now I have a stock rom that won't boot,
an unlocked bootloader
and stock recovery
Not sure what to do from here
thanks in advance for any assistance.
I can abd sideload and update from SD card, but everything I have fails signature verification.
edit: so frustrating trying to find that 1 zip

Just use MiFlash, that one's guaranteed to work. Read my DFU unbrick guide to know how to use it. Just skip the part where you have to disassemble the phone, since you can get to EDL mode by (with the phone off and the USB cable connected to the PC) holding both volume buttons and inserting the USB-C cable to the phone.
I did read your guide, was, hoping to avoid dismantling it...
I tried pressing all 3 buttons.
Am I understanding the procedure correctly:
[phone switched off] + usb-C cable connected to PC only
MiFlash running at this point??
Hold both volume keys in and in insert Cable to Phone
at this point is the phone supposed to switch on?
At no point am I supposed to press the power button?
fyi: I will try different combinations, is great to have a solution, thank you.
Ah.... ok... so, the phone will display nothing, rely on the sound of PC and/or the device manager check and/or hit refresh on miflash
Fyi to anyone, if you have axon7toolkit installed and thus can't install a second version of MiFlash, open up the toolkit and hit 7 (unlock bootloader) to fire up MiFlash... or just go to C:\XiaoMi\XiaoMiFlash
the FULL_EDL file I have produces a couldn't find script Error when loading into MiFlash
so far when attempting to flash all zips
I have started MiFlash with admin
unzipped FULL_EDL file to a folder in root C:\ and ensured there are no spaces in address.
Every time / Every file produces couldn't find script error when loaded into MiFlash
when I attempt to flash the file it says cannot receive hello packet and then times out with an error
Tried disabling anti-virus/firewall, still same error
upgraded MiFlash to 2017.4.24.0 ( older 2016 is included with axon7toolkit), this removes the couldn't find script error, but still not receiving a hello packet, gunna fiddle with the phone as I'm pretty sure the error is coming from there
YES!
rebooted phone, turned off, restarted into EDL, flashed the stock rom from zte site... is in chinese... but it works. Thank you Thank you
so adventure over, after all that I am back to 6.0.1...

I got it from here: http://www.ztedevice.com/support
selected:- United Kingdom > Mobile Phone > Axon 7
it offers a file "AXON 7(ZTE A2017G) SD card software package(328540B2634ZTE A2017GV1.0.0B11)"
which hints at being compatible with A2017G... but is A2017V and is chinese, although you can change the language in settings there is still plenty here and there, plus chinese bloatware
and No, I didn't get cell signal.
I've gone back to Marshmellow, I will try again, didn't think it would be so different/difficult... Although wow at MiFlash.
FFS!!!! Relocked bootloader and bricked it!!! there should be a warning!
you gotta laugh,
I am a bit livid, I know the guides come with disclaimers, however, you'd think it would be an obvious important warning to make... DO NOT RELOCK YOUR PHONE.

... after I finally got it working again (thanks for the assist), I thought relocking it was just making it secure again. I been rooting/unrooting and swapping out roms since the galaxy s2, who'd think you can't unlock and relock... I do think there should be warnings as it is too easy a mistake to make... lmao stop doing dumb stuff you start first
My phone is insured so I'm not overly fussed, but others will be less fortunate.

Hard Bricked 6T (No TWRP, OEM locked, MSM not working)

Hello dear community,
I've been playing with my 6t for a long time, hundreds of custom roms, kernels, etc..
Lastly I went to official oxygen 10. I tried to install twrp via fastboot but every time I tried to push the files, I would get a error. I reinstalled drivers, tried different ports, different tools..
I got mad and blindly followed some article where someone suggested putting "persist" in the fastboot command, I tried it, I thought it is some kind of "force push" the file and that is how I probably corrupted persist partition. DUMB
Phone not booting of course and I went to restore it with Msmdownload tool.
It did not fixed it.
I tried different versions of msm, I tried going to Hydrogen, tried different USB ports, tried type C ports, different PCs...
No luck, phone is stuck at bootloop, with no TWRP and bootlocked.
I read somewhere that Msmdownload tool is not flashing persist partition and I assume that is the reason why my phone can't be restored.
Fastboot commands are not working anymore and EDL mode is probably the only possible way to communicate with the device.
I live in Montenegro and I can't send phone to oneplus to repair it.
I searched the threads and noticed that some users with similar problem eventually succeed to restore the phone by flashing it with Msm multiple times. I am still trying to do it but no luck.
I would really appreciate help from dev mastermind.
Thank you!
If your bootloader is locked again, i think it is not possible to use Msn tool. I think the only way is to send it for repair if you can't boot the phone.
But maybe i'm wrong and someone else know the sollution.

Thank you for response, but I think that msmdowload tool is made mainly to be able to flash even locked bootloaders, although I am not 100% sure...

You are correct. Msm tool will work on locked bootloader.
Man that sucks. Seems like you might be screwed. I screwed up a couple times getting to A10 but I was able to get msm tool to work for me. You are using it while your phone is powered off, correct?
Try different version of android with msm tool. Like try using the Android 10 msm tool then try the Android 9 msm tool

Hi GeekMcLeod, That's right, I boot it in bootloader mode, select "turn off" just to be sure that phone is shut down. And then I hold volume up and volume down together and plug the cable so it goes in EDL mode. Windows recognize it just as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008, and that is all right I think.
Then I start MSMdownload tool and it flashes everything in around 200 seconds. I leave phone pluged in while it try to boots, but it never boot up. I left it for 45 minutes but still nothing...

I tried several versions. I was hoping to find Android 10 tool for oneplus 6t but it is still not available.

Sounds like a driver problem to me. Try gathering a few (by Google, OnePlus, perhaps even Samsung) and keep trying different ones. I had to do this on my OnePlus One years ago. Then suddenly I found one that worked and I could revive it back from the dead. Not saying that it would work for you but it might. In my case it was a Qualcomm tool. If you still end up with nothing but dead ends today, I'd initiate a chat with OnePlus on this page (select your country at the bottom of the page first).

The only solution is to use smt mode inside msmdownloadtool, which will restore persist partition, but with some disadvantages.
Be aware that you WILL LOSE YOUR IMEIs and WIDEVINE L1, use it at your own risk.
If you decide to do it (remember you WILL LOSE YOUR IMEIs and WIDEVINE L1!) follow this:
1.- Run MSMDownloadTool.
2.- Click on Verify and wait till it says "MD5 Check OK!".
3.- Then click on SMT Mode.
4.- Then click on Start like you would normally do with upgrade mode.
5.- The you need to enter as password "te123" and select your phone's capacity.
6.- If it says something like "Port disabled by user", go to the top left corner and click on "SMT", "COM Setup" and check everything, then click on the left button, and retry steps 4-5.
7.- When the process finishes the phone won't reboot, so you'll need to hold VolumeUP+Power until it powers on, then wait around 5 minutes and your phone will be back to life!!
8.- If you have an IMEI backup, just follow this guide (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/how-to/guide-oneplus-6t-unlock-bootloader-t3851789) (I don't know if this is the correct way to post links)
I hope you get your phone fixed.

Don't go to edl mode. Just have your phone powered off and use msm tool. I used it a couple times while getting to A10 and I only ever had to power my phone off.

@Papagaj do this....thats the only fix....I purposely wipe persist for to test something and I did that to recover from the boot loop.. persist store sensor information that vital to getting phone to boot....that's why it not booting..kernel is look for the sensor info but can't find it

Timmmmaaahh I am so glad to see you on my thread! I learned fundamentals of flashing on your guides back in Bacon days, and never bricked it even once! But this A/B partitions really gave me headaches....
It is highly likely that drivers are causing problem, I tried to flash it with msm tool on fresh windows where I let it to automatically download required drivers and the msm progress appear to be same as when I used drivers which are recommended by msmtool developer. I will try several more and will be back with results within few hours.

Is there a way to backup IMEI and WIDEVINE L1 at this moment? I think it is highly unlikely because functionality is limited to EDL only....
Or is there a way I can restore it later if I manage to fix a device with smt mode?

How do you mean? I can't get phone connected with msm tool if it is not in EDL mode.. It is not recognized when in stock recovery, bootloader or trying to boot up OS, that is only three states this phone can be at the moment.

You and me both! ? lol...
I recently got stuck in a weird bootloop thing with a, what i think was, corrupted boot.img. Try finding a stock android boot.img, boot to fastboot, and run the command fastboot flash boot <boot.img> on both partition A and B. If you can't find a stock boot.img, i managed to find one and can link to a download.
All right, here is the situation.
I finally managed to boot up the phone. amt911 gave working instructions on post #10. Thank you bro, you are awesome, and Thank you Tech_Savvy for confirming the method, you are badass who deletes partitions just for fun!
All right I got the phone booted up but as amt911 mentioned, I lost my IMEI numbers, without IMEI numbers you can't dial numbers, receive calls or use mobile data.
BACKUP IMEI NUMBERS FOLKS, you never know when the partitions will screw you over!
I was dumb one without backup and I had to contact Oneplus support for help. I was suprised how quickly I got into communications with one of the assistants.. in less than 10 seconds.
They ask you to do full reset via stock recovery and some other basic troubleshoots, after nothing, obviously, fix the missing IMEI they will arrange remote session to get your phone fixed.
You have to persist on remote session as some of assistants told me that I have to send the phone to repair.
Before they arrange session for you, you need to show them "proof of the purchase" ALSO KEEP THAT FOLKS I lost mine long time ago but luckily I found photo of invoice I took when I bought phone, phew*
I didnt have it at first when I contacted them and they say there is nothing they can do without a proof! DON'T STEAL PHONES FOLKS and then ask for support...
They will contact me for session within 48 hours and I will share the experience here.
Thank you again people!

Thank you JTVivian for helpful suggestion, but that method would not work. When your bootloader is locked, fastboot commands are useless, you can't flash anything.

Ah you're right, i wasn't sure if that was the case but i thought i'd throw out the suggestion anyways.
