YouTube app - account switching - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is more of a rant than anything else, as I am pretty confident there is no solution until Google fix this themselves.
But...
Why can't they make it easier to switch accounts???
Both my wife and I use the Shield, and both our accounts are listed in the Android TV settings.
To switch accounts you have to go down on the left menu, sign out, which brings you to a non-signed in page of YT, go back down to accounts, select sign in, and select the right account.
Come on Google, look at Netflix for example! Much simpler process!!

[Q] Storm8 games

Has anyone figured out a way to create a storm8 account on an android hd2?
I cannot find the option anywhere to make a new account and there is no way to do it online.
I haven't seen one yet. They've all been iPhone games recently ported over, and the only way to create accounts was on the iPhone.
Stupid way of doing it, imho *shrug*
I have been searching and phones that come with android seem to be able to create accounts just fine so it isn't only iphones.
Anyone know whatsup?
I play all 8 storm8 games on my myTouch 3G with Froyo 2.2
On any game that you play, go to the main game page, you'll see a "gear" or "gog" icon near the bottom, select that icon. This brings you to another screen with 3 tabs, choose the tab labeled "Storm8". On this screen, mine account is already setup so it shows my information but if you haven't setup an account yet it will let you create one here or give you a web link to the Storm8 page.
Enjoy!

Removing Address Book Default of T-Mobile Contact to Google Contact

One of the more annoying things I have found with my T-Mobile MyTouch 4g which I have Perm Rooted S=Off is that whenever you add a new contact either from log, texts or just create new contact it Defaults to a T-Mobile contact, and if you are not careful or forget about it that particular second you get screwed and have to create it again as a google contact. I want it to default to being a Google Contact so it goes into my Google Address Book automatically, not phone, not T-mobile but the google contact. Does anyone know how to make this happen, or how to modify some sort of file to accomplish this? A tutorial would be great and I am sure other people would appreciate it as well
I would like to know the same thing. It is so annoying that it does that.

I found the solution:
http://forums.t-mobile.com/t5/myTou...ntacts-you-want-to/td-p/584679/highlight/true
Please read this instruction carefully and be sure that you saved all your contacts with your google account. uncheck in the sync menu all accounts (Qik, Exchange etc) except your main google account.
1) On the web, make sure ALL your contacts are in your Google.com contacts.
2) On your phone, make sure sync with T-Mobile is UNCHECKED and that ONLY Google sync IS checked.
3) Go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and choose the Running tab.
4) Scroll and choose Contacts Storage.
5) Select Clear Data - WARNING- THIS WILL ERASE ALL CONTACTS DATA FROM YOUR PHONE. DON'T WORRY. IT WILL SYNC BACK.
6) Go into Contacts. Hit Menu/View. Make sure that T-mobile (and any other accounts you don't want to display) is UNCHECKED.
7) Go back to Accounts & Sync and make sure Google is syncing ant that T-Mobile remains deselected.
You should be good to go when it comes to Google being the default contact entry. If you had contacts linked with Facebook, Twitter or otherwise, you will have to now let those sync and auto-link again. It's worth the trouble, though. Good luck.

It did not work for me as described but I followed the directions on the post from psyclism which says:
My first try didn't work either. I ended up disabling sync on ALL of my accounts, clearing data then rebooting my phone. After that I enabled google contact sync, and viola! Google is now the default. I then enabled all of the other accounts (except for TMobile) and Google has remained my default account type.

Does this still work? I am trying everything listed above, but t-mobile is still the default.

New Member, New Atrix, New to Android

So just picked up my atrix from costoc, coming from a BB 8310 and I'm already fully overwhelmed by this phone.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some good starter tutorial material, what bloatware I can/want to delete (im sure most if not all of it), etc.
Basically need a place to start. So far I've looked at google maps and snapped a few pictures, plugged in the HDMI to see the pics on my TV, and linked my google account....so now what haha
LOL well the first thing I always do is find a good launcher; there are a lot of them outbthat, in my opiniojn, ar3all better and offer more customizability than the moto launcher.
After that, I set up my calendar so it syncs to my phone as well.
Twitter, Facebook, and a new browser and you're pretty much set.
What in particular are you looking for? I'd (and I'm sure others here) would be happy to help.

Initially looking for what to take off I would say (not interested in any of the BS stuff moto puts on there, just not sure what I should be getting rid of and what should remain. I'll hold off on root for awhile just until I get more familiar.)
After that, mostly just basic stuff that people like to tweak a little here and there. There are so many options and functions I could spend days just sorting through them all.
One thing I noticed right away that I think was mentioned here or another board before, I added my google account to sync contact, email, and calendar...however I now seem to have EVERY person I've emailed, even random craigslist people that I spoke with once or twice, in my contacts. I'd really like to get it to sync only people that are an actual contact.
OK well pertaining to the applications, I deleted everything that was on there that I could; wasn't all if it but a lot of stuff could be.
For the contacts problem, to go settings, accounts, and click on the email addresses. Deselect contacts.
At this point it wont sync them anymore and you can delete them from the contacts.
You can also hit the menu key and choose different views for which contacts you want to see.

Just go to Contacts, hit the menu key and go to Settings. There will be a checkbox for "Phone Number's Only". Select that and the ones without phone numbers will go away.
Also, get ADW.Launcher or Launcher Pro. Figure out which one you like better and then upgrade to the paid version. I have ADW Launcher EX and I use it in all the android phones I've had since I bought it. They are so much better and more flexible than the built in launchers.
you dont need to delete anything since its not doing anything if you are not using it. Get apps like "whats app" and "pingchat" which work like BBM. Use launcher pro and customize your home screen. Download some games and emulators

Found the setting you described so hopefully that helps, will I need to manually delete all "extra" contacts that got synced previously? Also, would there be a way either stock or by 3rd party app to only sync people listed as actualy contacts in my gmail account? I have about 300 or so in my actual contacts list in gmail on the webpage, but a few of them that I do use are email contacts only so I would still want to sync those.
Also for syncing in general, does the computer or phone override? So say I delete a contact on my phone, will it delete from my gmail contacts list as well when i get into gmail on my comp, and vice versa?
Concerning synching in general, it goes both ways
Oh a word of advice, if you delete something on your calander on the phone, it is deleted from the cloud (and desktop) calender as well.
So I would suggest to delete all things on the computer if you can; I have my classes set up perfectly and I deleted all next week on spring break and it didn't give me aby options for that week; effectively deleting everything after that.

The phone will push newer data back out to the network. So if you change it on your phone, it will update to google, and vice versa.
I believe the "newer" data will always trump.
It should only push in contacts who are in your gmail contacts, so if you want email addresses only on some of them, then uncheck the box I mentioned earlier and just delete the contacts you don't want out of the google contacts listings.
It shouldn't list a bunch of contacts outside of that unless you have them as facebook/twitter friends and have those sync'd as well with contacts. (application settings)

Both good to know. I like the "newest" action being the overriding factor, so I can change from either location.
Looks like selecting the "only phone numbers" got rid of the extra stuff, but not sure what other contacts were email only I may have now omitted, have to look into it further.
Going to DL some "stuff" now haha
Check out some youtube videos. There's some great ones released by google themselves that can save you some frustration

Can't OTA Update because of Motoblur...

I keep getting this error message when i hit system updates in the about phone section.
"com.android.settings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button"
If I try to load social networking from the applications list, it says i have to setup a social networking account also. But when I go to accounts, it wont let me delete the facebook account (says error) and there is no 'social networking' account in add accounts. This is a really strange error, I'm thinking maybe due to downloading the regular facebook app. I deleted it and still am getting the same error. Not sure if accidently deleted the social networking app but its still listed under the manage applications section.
Anyone have any ideas on this one?
I am having this same problem. When I go into "About Phone" and check for updates, I get a popup message on the screen instantly that says:
com.android.settings.deviceinfo.CheckUpdate is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account, click "Setup" button"
There is a button labeled "setup" and a button labeled "Cancel". When I hit "Setup", nothing happens.
If I go into Accounts on the phone, it shows two sections:
MOTOBLUR Accounts
Other Accounts
MOTOBLUR accounts has nothing under its header, and Other Accounts has my GMail account. When I hit "Add Account", there isn't an option to setup a MotoBlur account, or add my existing MotoBlur account to the phone. Instead it gives me the option of adding MySpace, Facebook, LastFM, Twitter, Email, Corportate Sync, Picasa, Photobucket, LinkedIN, or Yahoo Mail to my MotoBlur Account.
I figured I'd try adding one of those to my MotoBlur account in hopes that it would realize that it lost my MotoBlur account and let me add my MotoBlur account back in. Sadly, this was note the case. I chose Picasa, put in my name and password and got the following error:
"There was an error creating your account. Please try again.
There was an error creating your account. Please try again."
(Yes, it said it twice)
I tried the same thing with Twitter, and again I got the same error message box (and again it said the error twice).
For some background on my setup... I am rooted and have unlocked the boot loader. I also used Titantium to Freeze everything in the "Comprehensive List" on this website:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972459
I did unfreeze everything I had frozen on the phone, rebooted it, and I get the exact same results...
Accounts lists a header for MOTOBLUR Accounts and Other Accounts, but has nothing under MotoBlur.
When I try to do updates and it says that I need a social networking account and I click "Setup", nothing happens.
When I launch the Social Networking App, it says that I need an account, and my options are "setup" and cancel. When I hit "Setup" 3 in 4 times the app just closes on the spot, 1 in 4 times the phone rebooted just after the app closed itself.
So can anyone shed some light onto this? It seems obvious to me that the problem is that my phone "lost" its MotoBlur account. Is there a way to set one up again without wiping the phone?
DK
I have previously borked Motoblur by freezing something I shouldn't have, and thawing didn't help matters. I'm guessing you'll be doing a wipe and clean install in your near future.
This may not be relevant since I'm running the 2.3.4 build, but I have an app called Social Networking in my app drawer. When I click on it I can add a MotoBlur type account for a variety of social networks. I don't remember if this was there in the stock build. I think I remember a social widget of some sort though. Maybe you could add that to a screen, and it would provide the actual mechanisms for adding the social networking account.
Im getting this too in my rooted atrix, the unrotted i have us fine.
Sent from my MB860
Rooted versus non-rooted shouldn't matter. I was rooted on 4.1.26 and did the OTA to 4.1.57, re-rooted and did OTA to 4.1.83.
There must be a way to have the MotoBlur setup to come up again without wiping the whole phone. There doesn't seem to be an icon for it, but there must be something I can run through a terminal window or over ADB that will re-launch the MotoBlur setup.
DK
I put up a post on the Moto Forums, and a Moto Employee said that there is no way to re-run the MotoBlur account setup.
The thing is... I'm nearly positive that there is a way. I'd find it very hard to believe that the application to setup your MotoBlur account when you turn on the phone for the first time is programmed such that it removes itself after its done. That would mean that its still on the phone somewhere. Right?
I'm hardly an Anroid pro, but I am most definately not a typical end user either. Any advice to point me in the right direction would be appreciated. Since I don't "need" OTA updates until GB is out (unless CM7 or anything good custom ROM beats Moto), I have plenty of time to look around the phone for a solution to this.
DK
if you wipe your phone you will get this option back to add a motoblur account again
there is a 'setup' app in the app drawer for those who want to setup blur later.
If you are on bell search flawless bell update I have a howto.
If you're on att you're going to need to find a stock system.img to push onto your phone.

Disable N7 from offering to log me into every Google webpage

Is there a way to disable the N7 from logging me in and offering to log me in to every Google re-seed webpage and service? I like to share my N7, but I don't like that if you open Chrome to Gmail.com, it will log into the Gmail service automatically or offer to do so. I can use a security app like App Protector to lock down the Gmail APP, but I don't want to disable Chrome entirely. I just don't want people to be able to use Chrome on the N7 to be able to log into Gmail, G+, etc.
How can I do this?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda app-developers app
UPDATE: Better, but still no solution.
I found that Chrome has a settings (tap menu, then Settings, then tap your email address listed at the top of the menu immediately below "Basics"). There you will find an option called "Auto sign-in (sign into to Google sites automatically)." By un-ticking this box, it no longer offer to log me into Gmail, merely because I visit gmail.com (or mail.google.com).
This is only partially helpful. Anyone who knows this can simply open the settings and tick the box and then get into my Gmail. The solution is to password-protect the Settings menu in Chrome. Devs, I'd pay for that.
