Need Help, S8 G950U on ATT won't update - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

Baseband version is G950USQU2CRB6, patch level from February 1st, 2018. It doesn't find any updates, factory reset has done nothing. Smart switch has not found anything either. I tried flashing to stock with Odin, but I couldn't get that to work, it would get stuck on setupconnection or initialization. I tried update over ADB too, but I couldn't find the right firmware from CRB6 to another one. I want to be able to update to the latest or whatever so I can do an ADB update to One UI. Please help me. I tried everything, and yes I was in download mode when doing Odin. Is there something else I need to do?

can't boot phone

Hi, I started a thread needing help with my wifi but it has developed into not even being able to boot at all; it stops at the galaxy logo and either freezes or keeps booting. I have gone to the Odin page with all the different things to do and flashed the file to get back to the original rom but that is really where the trouble began. right now the only thing I can do with my phone is get into download mode, I can't even get into recovery. I have flashed a pit file that worked the first time but I don't know if that is part of the problem or not. Can someone please give me some directions, thanks
Also the phone won't boot at all unless hooked up to a power supply, the battery alone doesn't do anything.

More info is needed. What firmware / bootloader are you on? Was it rooted? Did you have a custom recovery installed? What version of ODIN are you using?

Right now, it sounds like you might need to use enewman17's ODIN debrick file.

It is the AT&T s4. To be honest I don't know what firmware I am on, it is the one the Odin page said to use if you want to go back to stock. I never rooted it. The bootloader would be whatever the latest update was for this phone. I can't get into it to tell you anymore. I am using ODIN 10, the latest one. thanks
Well I finally got into recovery and did a factory reset, now it boots into the AT&T white splash screen before it just turns off. I am also wondering if my battery just died for some reason?

ODIN 10? Try using ODIN 3.09 and see if that helps. The latest update would be Android 4.4.4 NJ4 firmware. This link should help you, it will give you root with safe strap recovery though: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642

Check out the link I posted in my last post. It should help you get your phone fixed.
I have been there. I went to the very last option which seems to be what I need unless I am missing something.
Neither odin 3.09 or 3.10 will even flash any file now. it either says invalid md5 or fails when it attempts it.
Well, I finally got it to boot into android but it is flaky at best. It is android 4.3 instead of 4.4 where it was initially. The wifi still doesn't work and now the keyboard keeps crashing everytime I do something. The build is jss15j1337ucuemk2 which I know is older than I had before. Does this give anyone a better idea of what I need to do? If I can get a stable flash then can I flash a modem file to fix the wifi? I really need some direction, thanks
Turns out the battery was completely drained which was causing some of the boot problems, I don't now how that happened but I am charging it now.
Well after using odin 3.8* I got it to install some older firmware ending in mk2 rather than the nc1 or nf4 that I had before the trouble. After I got it to boot, I went back into download mode and flashed the modem file and now everything works execpt I had to force stop Samsung keyboard and use swype. I would like to upgrade my firmware but since for a couple of more weeks it won't have a sim card I can't upgrade OTA. For some reason Kies says that firmware upgrade and initialization isn't supported with this model which makes no sense to me. It also says my firmware is up to date
Does anyone know how to flash to the latest firmware without me going through this nightmare again? thanks

If I were in your shoes I'd flash the nb1 tar file in Odin, any vein should work. See this for the tar file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56453100. You can then ota to the latest firmware which is 4.4.4, nj4

I haven't found anything from Samsung to download. If I flash a newer build, do I also need to flash a modem file and a bootloader or can I just flash the PDA? thanks for explaining this to me.
And can I do a dirty flash so I don't have to lose everything again?
well, now I see that there is no sound. so I guess I will have to flash again.

There's. Something I'm yet to understand. Did you finally manage to boot into recovery? If so, flash a custom recovery (I recommend philz touch recovery) then use it to make complete wipe.
Then boot into download mode and flash latest pda firmware in the compressed file you downloaded. Ps: make sure it's from your region.
May be if you provided me with your region I'd get you all the files required

Update (PH7)

I updated to PH7 to see what would happen. After update I try to root with success but after set up a pop up notification said Samsung has detected your device is rooted.
I got no activating reboot loop it just didn't active me at all, not even manually .
So I flash a stocked PG1 and staying stock until a good rom arrives. I edit my APN at lease i got tethering.
I tried the Echoe Rom but I got stuck on splash screen.

You try the ##72786# trick to get your number associated with your SIM card? I had to do that when I rooted and couldn't activate, ended up activating after doing the ## and rebooting. Though it wasn't the update you're talking about, and I didn't get the "your device is rooted" and notification. Anyways, thanks for the heads up.

Anyone have an odin flashable PH7? I tried to OTA update and it fails. I even tried factory reset / reflash PG1 and OTA still fails.
I checked at Samsung-Firmware.org and PH7 is not up yet. Did you extracted PG1 zip into a folder and added to each slot in Odin?
BL AP CP CSC the last slot is HOME_CSC not CSC_SPT . Try PF2 or PE1

Same here, I tried a lot of different things and could never get the activation to stick while it was rooted. Ended up going back down to PG1 so I could keep it rooted.
IDK why anyone would want to update to PH7 It wont activate your phone. PG1 is working perfect
I was previously rooted and flashed via ODIN back to stock PG1, and everytime I try to OTA Update to PH7 and it fails at 32% during the update. I think it knows some how that I was previous rooted or some ****. I'm going to have to flash the PH7 via ODIN if I want to update, but I'm sure it'll reset my entire phone, unlike the OTA... RIP

Just got n910t november n910tuvs2epk2 ota update in 60mb

Just got November ota update in 60mb i am just curious to know if it is gonna lock the bootloader.
UPDATE-/ BOOTLOADER STILL UNLOCKED I TESTED & DOWNGRADED TO 5.1.1 OK1 .
I just received it as well. I use my phone for work so it's encrypted but could you try to downgrade and let's us know what happened
Yes, you can still downgrade to 4.4.4 with the new update
This update should give me enough time to read the details of the update before it reboots my phone in the 25 seconds. At that point, we don't have the ability to "abort" or decline the agreement anyway.
Note 4 tmo, downloads the 60mb update, phone enters recovery mode then i get "update failed phone will recover the original configuration" .
I'm full stock, no root, no custom recovery no nothing. Anyone could help me?
I'd recommend you use the desktop version of ODIN with the latest FULL ROM to restore your device (without wiping) to the version before the OTA update. You can then try the update process again.

I encountered the same error last night. I held POWER + VOLUME DOWN to boot into Recovery mode, then I rebooted to System. My phone went through the app optimization process (you know, the screen that you'd see after wiping the Cache/Dalvik Cache).
I assumed that the update failed, but when I checked "About Device," I noticed that it now has the November 1, 2016 security patch (Baseband Version N910TUVS2EPK2).

Note 3 Factory Data Reset Daily -

Ok - haven't seen this problem anywhere - all I see are posts and articles regarding how to get it off the Samsung screen during boot... Which is a Factory Data Reset... I have to FDR my phone daily.. not running anything custom (accept this was originally a Rent-A-Center phone - and I know they have a special system built in to kill the phone if its not paid for etc... Was paid off well over a year ago)
How do I fix this?? Do I have to root and install a custom ROM?? Do I have to do something else? Having to FDR every day, and sometimes twice is becoming rather annoying.

I have searched both Updato and Sammobile - nothing but European and otherwise non-USA Firmware - I also cannot get Odin - or frankly Kies to work either... Kies does not find the device, and Odin acts like it is there, but nothing I put in it is working..

ADB and FB? They briefly flash on my PC screen and vanish - no options to do anything... I have updated the Samsung USB drivers 4 times... So I am not sure what to do next..
Thanks for the help so far!

What's your phone's model? It doesn't have to be carrier-specific to be able to flash it.
Also, try TWRP instead of CWM recovery, devs seem to prefer TWRP overall.
SM-N900T is the model number.. I'll give TWRP a shot next. Maybe I'll have better luck with it.
Could the RAC software be putting a wall up that I can't get through? I bricked a phone I was getting through them once because I tried to update Android through Kies (on an S5) and discovered they don't use stock ROM's with their phones.

I've got a N900T and I've found software in both Sammobile and Updato, I don't know why you're not finding anything (N900T is supposed to be T-Mobile's variant)
Anyway, I would try out the following tutorial: Link
I found it very useful when I wanted to completely flash my phone clean and root.
I am not sure about what roadblocks you could have of this phone being a RAC phone, but if you still want to give it a try I'd suggest you try out the tutorial I showed you

Yes, you can use this and flash back to Nougat.
Yes, this is bootloader version 3, so you won't be able to flash back to any previous build in bootloader version 2.
No, it won't break any future OTA updates. If you do experience any problems with OTA updates, I do have them available to flash manually, if needed.

No, I dont think so. I've tried to download it 20 times already. First time I downloaded, it says download finished. Then when i went to unzip it, there was 5 files and I got some sort of error unzipping on 2 of the 5 files. So I downloaded it again, this time I only got 2 of the 5 files with another error. Redownloaded, got 5 files, error unzipping. Tried different download managers, different browsers.... I'm lost......

Hmm, weird. No one else encountered this problem. I'm going to have to upload a new file link.

Make sure your phone is in download mode. I'm about to give this a go when I get home tonight. There are lots of little things about Oreo that I don't like.
Should be flashing all files that match up with the slots in Odin. I don't think the HomeCSC is absolutely needed (I believe it preserves your data, not sure). I've never used it before. Just know this will erase everything on your device.
My phone is currently bricked, or at least I believe so. It was bricked before and I flashed a different firmware, and after I had it working I upgraded all the updates through the phone to Oreo, from Nougat 7.1.1, and then tried to root it which was stupid on my part, now the firmware that un-bricked my phone won't flash again and it stops after it says xbl.elf. Also on my phone after it fails it says something about SW Rew 3 > binary 2 or something along those lines. I believe this is happening because the firmware I am trying to flash that worked before is now older or something, and right now I am downloading this firmware to try it out.
I have tried flashing this onto the phone, the first time everything went fine, but then when the android came up it said Error..., then it just goes to the charging circle but it doesn't show what my battery is at, and also what I have noticed is my phone will not go into download mode or do anything unless it's plugged in, I have no idea what to do as of right now.

Had a couple of scares but it worked fine.
1. After selecting the files in Odin, it took a while for a couple of the files to populate into the slot. Wasn't expecting it to take so long to analyze the files.
2. After it finished, there was a pause at 32% on the phone saying there was an error. After a minute or so it rebooted.
3. When it rebooted it went to a screen saying the phone was encrypted and to enter my password. I had never encrypted the phone, plus, I had done a complete factory reset before flashing in Odin.
The solution to fix this was to power off, boot to recovery, factory reset and clear cache. It booted up fine after that.
Now I'm back to what I wanted. I had purchased Package Disabler a while back so I first installed that and disabled software update so it won't upgrade to Oreo.

No. Read my last sentence in my last post. I did all this so I could go back to Nougat and stay there by disabling the software update. I did not like Oreo. I didn't like the way notifications were changed for Oreo. Badges were tied to status bar notifications, unlike Nougat.
Plus, my phone didn't feel as smooth in Oreo and my battery life was worse.
I'm staying on Nougat for a while.

My phone is not unlocked. The UI in Nougat and Oreo are very much the same. There are some features that are different to each one.
I don't see how you can upgrade to Android P. Oreo for Samsung was just released back in March. Unless there's something I don't know, P won't be released for this phone for quite a while. But I hope I'm wrong about that.
