Restore app with data without root? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hi guys. Waiting for my new baby to arrive.
I have a rooted S7 now and have never been able to get Titaniun backup to restore apps WITH data.
Are there any better alternatives for this?
Some apps have a lot of settings I really don't want to have to set them up again.

Why not use Smart Switch?

I'll check it out once i get the new phone

Luckily, Smart Switch will restore data of ALL apps. If it doesn't work for any reason, you can still use Helium backup, this app works on Pie too.

Switch doesn't restore app data; just confirmed after migrating from my S9+ to my just arrived s10+.
Only restores apps, plain without data

Thats way i only use these phones with root... should everyone use it with root.

Smart Switch never failed me when I changed my phones in the past. Are you sure it doesn't work this time?

Crap, i just realized i forgot to mention to get app data, you should backup to sd and restore on new phone. Cable is dodgy. All my app data restored in all apps except games.

This worked for me restoring a game. Gave me back my earned coins and all my levels. It's the only app I tried with helium.

Best way to backup apps and settings? (Clone?)

Without root can we do this? I have spent all week tweaking my phone and dont wanna lose all my settings.
Also, once root is available will I have to set up everything again from scratch?

2.2 backs everything up for you through Google.
Ok, that's creepy. Do I have to do anything? How can I check and see what it's backed up?
AFAIK, there is just a setting which you check if you want Google to backup your stuff. No idea if you can see what they've backed up etc. Doubt there is anything like that.

i have always used mybackup pro. Its on the market i think its like $2
I actually have that app too. I hope I will restore my settings after root.

Root will come!!

Can't wait for Root. Pretty sure I am not the only one willing to chip in a little to help get it going on ATT.
Yes, we NEED root, but we also have to get some money together for a dev. Take this post to the top! I have $50, anyone willing to match or add to?

I did not know that damn that sucks. Why just not ATT? Other Note 5s had root. But every phone I have had in the last 5 or 6 years has gotten root. My galaxy S2 on boost mobile I had root. My LG G pro on Att with locked bootloader got root. Same with my LG V20. They said oh no the bootloader is locked it will not get root.. It got root. When a phone first comes out everyone starts freaking out about root and someway somehow it gets root. Now you did throw a wrench in the machine about the Note 5 on Att. Hope I am right and we do get it.

I hope I'm wrong and we get root on Note 8 like on S8 and S7 versions.
The real problem is that root is not full root. It's always based off the engineering kernel/firmware now (for both the S7 and the S8) and it severely limits the performance of the device.
The S8 can only charge to %80 once it's rooted, it also breaks Netflix, and most of the Samsung apps. Also the bootloader is still locked down tight so there is no way to flash AOSP.
It's really not worth it. There are ways to get almost everything without root now.

yup, I can deal with no AOSP but not the 80% limitation of battery and breaking of apps.

Agreed. Practically everything I used to root my phones for can be done now without root. Theming, ad blocking, disabling bloatware, etc... It's great.

I had to reset my phone the other day and I backed up my phone with Samsung and it did not save any of my settings all it did was put my apps back on my phone with no data for them. Can you do that with switch? Will it save my apps with the data and all?

It saves how your phone is setup, but, no, not data. I think it works fairly well though. I am enjoying the note 8 without root.

program/app to backup phone data before unlocking the bootloader?

Hey! This may sound like a noon question. Ive been rooting my phones for almost a decade and never cared about loosing all my data and apps during the process.
However, now I'm about more concerned about it, and was wondering if anyone could recommend me a free program or app to make a complete data and apps backup?
Thanks....

Nothing that I can think of before unlocking the BL, which is why I do it as soon as I take the phone out of the box.
How about OnePlus switch app that is already present at the phone. You can do backups and restores from the app.

I thought it only worked to transfer data from phone to phone. But I was wrong, I just checked and realized I could make the backup and then transfer it to my pc...
Android Pie has a built-in backup option already. Under system>backup. Hope this helps.

I never had an OnePlus till now , but OP Switch work as expected...
But getting the backup from internal storage to somewhere less volatile is difficult - large files, slow even over USB 3 connection. Oh for a microUSB card...

Oneplus Switch not transfering application's data

Hi,
Oneplus Switch is said to transfer app data along with apps.
However, the games and apps installed by Oneplus Switch are fresh and new. No configuration or save game.
Did I miss anything?
Thank you
Are you sure it transfers appdata? I bet its up to the developer to allow it or not.
It's said to transfer app data since version 2.
Most of the apps I transferred did not have the data properly moved, but a few did.
I was transferring from a rooted OP3T to my bone-stock unrooted 6T 8/256 in hopes of avoiding root for backup /restore. I'm normally a Titanium user for backup and transfer to new devices.
That said, otherwise transition was smooth so far. Have most things working. Nice phone.
Interestingly right thumbprint works great but left is hit or miss for fingerprint reader so far.

Hit or miss. Google backup does a better job at app data imho

I had some settings actually transferred, this is nice. But I could not find any app with my old data (over 50 apps). Coming from OP One however, may be the cause. It was TWRP and rooted, too.

Well, I think it only transfers data from apps which are "Play CLoud" enabled. Right? My games don't seem to be :|

This seems correct. For example my Angry Birds2 data didn't transfer, but it seems that has its own cloud storage these days so I was able to get it over without Titanium.

Too bad games are not generally using Play Games Cloud. However, half of the "Play Games Cloud" compatible games I have didn't successfully get the data back after reinstall. It looks like it's still unstable...
I wonder why this source says that app+app data is migrated:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/program-app-to-backup-phone-data-t3864583
Also other thread is happy with OnePlus switch results: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t/help/program-app-to-backup-phone-data-t3864583
So only reliable and full backup+restore with app+data is root+titanium backup?

This seems to be the case. I have not rooted my 6t; first phone I haven't had to root. Enough things either transferred via Switch or made it through one cloud or another that it wasn't worth rooting just for this.
