Android Firewall. No impact on phone speed.

Before I open any app I open manifests.xml and change permissions. lol
Anything else We can do?
IMO, If you get anything like this. You deserve it! Almost just like on a PC. If your not smart enough to check your stuff before you put it on your phone, then stick to buying your apps. Don't open and launch things from emails you don't know about. Your not smart enough to know what sites are bad and how to control what your clicking through. By all means hurry and pirate an anti... app too please. Then I can charge you to fix it. XXX only make me money.
Did I miss anything? lol
Love,
Your loving IT Pro
Oh yeah I forgot. LBE security guard. Amazing root permissions app. It allows you to revoke certain apps permissions. Like if you don't want angry birds access to your data and wifi you can do that. An added plus is with that you dont get any more stupid adds.

I use a combo of several apps
Superuser (with PIN) for SU rights
AdFree - to block most ads
Droid Wall - to totally block data & WiFI on an app by app basis
LBE Privacy Guard - to remove specific permission from apps that require data access
One of the easiest thing to do, is only get apps from trusted sources, which will drastically cut down on risks
Finally, think twice about installing an app with a low number of downloads.

I agree 100% with this. The UI is super simple, and you can see how much data each app is using. It opened my eyes the first few times I used it as there were apps using data that had no real reason to. It didn't make sense to me.
As UBER mentioned, you can also disable GPS for apps like Angry Birds Space. I love how when you install a new app, a notification shows up up top reminding you to set permissions for that app.
Very basic, easy to use, and most importantly, powerful.

Adblock without root?

S8 is the first phone im considering not rooting since i didnt see much use for it on my S6 except for the adblock app. Is there one that works well without root? One that will work in chrome and youtube?
Edit: Is ad block possible without a vpn app?
Try to use AdGuard - https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html

Adguard is a vpn. I was wondering if there is a ad block without root that's not a vpn service. It could affect speed and battery life.
Someone mentioned "Disconnect Pro" on another thread. Apparently it has exclusive access to knox and therefore doesn't require vpn or anything...

Thanks but at $33 it's too expensive. There's another app call adhell that's open sourced and free. Used the same Knox method. Just installed it and seems to be working.

Pi-Hole
If you surf the web primarily at home, something many might not have considered is PiHole. Buy a Raspberry Pi, slap PiHole on it (takes about 1 minute to setup) and set your Wifi Router's DNS to be the Raspberry PI and BAM! You've now blocked all ads for not just your phone, but also your buddy's or anyone else who uses your Wifi network. It really is amazing and I've donated.
Disconnect pro. It was free a while ago in the galaxy app store. Works really well. Not ads in chrome but more important....no vpn icon or notification. Everything runs in the background just like adblock. I tried adhell but it doesnt remove the space from where the ad were. DP does....

Doesn't AdBlock only work on WiFi without root?
I just installed adhell on my S7E. So far I am impressed. Will use on the S8+ when I get it on friday. If Disconnect pro is that much better than Adhell, it would be worth the 25 to 30 bucks for me though. The worst part of not having root since my N7 and now S7E is not having full adblock. VPN adblock is just too cumbersome for my tastes. I will look into Disconnect pro also. Adhell is not blocking on youtube (I don't use youtube that much on my phone anyway), but so far everything else it is working.

Adguard. Been using it since the Note 4. Have a lifetime license. They have sales every now and then where it costs about 2 years' annual fees (or less). Totally worth it. App is constantly updated and safe to use.
I use the DNS66 route. You get stuck with a permanent notification, but worth it IMHO.
I use Blokada. It works, it doesn't add any noticable battery drain, and it is easy to use.

Most apps, including YouTube, have built in ad serving code. You will have to be rooted or use a VPN to usually block those type of ads. However, you can block YouTube ads if you view YouTube through your browser and not through the YouTube app.

Disconnect pro.. im getting no youtube ads

I have discomnect which i got it when it was free. I got my note 9 yesterday and installed it since it blocks all ads on apps/games and browser. In browser i dont even use adremove extension since DP takes care of it. Is not a vpn solution since it works with knox just like adhell.
Something that i notice. I get no videoads in my youtube app. Even when the video is 1 hour long and u can see the yellow lines when the ads will pop up. It doesnt. I do get advertisement banner in the aps itself but no video ads whatsoever. Anyone can confirm this?
When i turn it off i start getting video ads again.

The free version is only a samsung browser extention ad blocker. The full version is an app itself to block all ads in apps/games.
Not sure about the bad review but i have had just great experience with it. Used it on my 8+, note8, gs9 + and note 9. Block everything, i have tried adhell, blockada, adguard, nds66, block this and a few other this has been the best for me love the UI.
This is just personal opinion and dont reommend anyone to pay more than $5 for it since theres other similiar options for free.

No is not using vpn, ur speed will be the same with or without it, unlike other option like blokada, adguard, nds666 etc. Only uses samsung built in knox security to block ads.
I know adhell 3 works great is another option but a little more complicated since u need a key from samsung.

I've tried saving both to a text file and pointing adshell to them in the format it shows, so

Yet when I toggle domain rules it just removes them.

Any tutorial like this one will do: https://www.androidsage.com/2018/07/28/how-to-install-latest-adhell-3-1-1-with-new-standard-knox-license-key-adblock-samsung/
If you don't want to bother with compiling (like me) you can install a prebuilt version here (you'll have to trust the guy who did this though): https://www.mediafire.com/folder/sb37c6gmhqgbn/AdHell_3
And the fix for Chrome: you need to add a firewall rule under Domains/Blacklist/Add firewall rule and put "com.android.chrome|*|53"
then reactivate domain rules and firewall rules on the adhell3 home menu.
Haha I added hosts from AdAway too... I'm at 73050 unique hosts now XD I guess that's enough now I hope it'll not eat too much CPU/battery though, or I'll disable some of them.
