I just got my pre order today. So far I am very happy. Excellent phone overall.
Build quality is very good. I like Aluminum back phones. The red accents and other "gamer design" elements are flashy but well done. The RGB strip on the back and effects are actually pretty cool.
Screen is excellent for LCD. Very happy with the screen. About as good as it gets being full hd. Since it isn't OLED I would have liked quad hd resolution but it is a good panel!
Sound is impressive. Bottom firing speaker and ear piece produce pretty decent stereo sound.
Battery life seems very good so far.
OS seems very stable but on December security patch. Would like February.
Camera is pretty good. Good low light pics. Actually surprised. Single sensor is good!
I bought the middle version with 8gb ram and 128gb storage.
Performance is excellent.
For the cost I am very happy. It is a solid device!

Are you on T-Mobile/AT&T? Can you verify if it supports VoLTE or WiFi calling? I can't seem to find a way to ask the company these questions directly.

I can confirm this phone does support VoLTE on AT&T.
Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Advanced > Enhanced 4G LTE Mode
The phone stayed on LTE for data while I was on a phone call.

Cricket wireless (AT&T) I love the phone best phone I ever had been on the China rom just switched to global I'll stay tuned

I can confirm WiFi calling. I have no idea how to navigate to the setting as it was a pop up one day asking if I wanted to turn on WiFi calling.
As for Volte I am not sure. All I can confirm is 4g lte.
Hope that helps.

What would make the g3 perfect...

The display. The colours are slightly too warm and also, the touch input is not the greatest. For example, when writing a text quickly you often get ghost taps which leads to inaccurate input. Compared to my g1, the g3 is noticeably worse.
The lack of led notification. I am confident we shall get this with software updates as its clearly present In cm12 when charging. Active display is just not as good.
Dual speaker. Again, a lot of devices (nexus 5, note) have been tweaked to allow for stereo speaker output. Very confident we shall eventually get this too.
All in all, this is a fantastic device. And with the above tweaks, it would be perfect to me! What do you guys think? Anything ive missed?

The major feature i love in Moto G3 is IPX7 Water Resistance. And also 13 MP Camera.
For the price point we can't ask for more. This is perfect to me.

I get GOOD battery life...not amazing, like all the reviewers say. I'm very unimpressed, based on the reviews. Having said that, for a stock rom and kernel, it gets good screen on time. I'm not talking down on it...I just expected better than my LG G2, since it's 2 model years newer, with a bigger battery....they way people are talking about it puts it on a pretty high pedestal.
The PERFECT phone?? Give me a custom rom with all the features from the Moto X dev edition the hardware is capable of, and a kernel with 20% more battery life and bring back NFC, and I'll call it 'as perfect as it can get at this price point'

Eh, I like the display... It is way better than my old Nexus 4 in color and brightness, can't argue with you about the touch responsiveness though, but I just figured it was my tempered glass screen protector since prior to installing it I had no issues.
Notification LED is a possibility but not likely... it is a single color LED that seems to be tied to the charging circuit somehow, although I hope it can work, I have serious doubts it will ever be useful. If I had to choose one feature I would like, this would be it.
Dual speakers?!?! How can you "tweak" a single speaker to be 2 speakers??? Personally I think for the price point, the sound quality and volume is excellent.
5.2Ghz WiFi would be a plus... Where I am, in an area full of apartment buildings and two hotels within a block, there are 50+ 2.4 Ghz WiFi SSIDs visible, the interference is terrible, but in the 5.2 Ghz range there is two besides my router.
Most other things I would like are simple software or after rooted or custom ROM/kernel is applied... DT2W, swipe to sleep, battery percentage in the notification bar that is readable... Most of these can be handled easily with software of some kind.
I give the speakers an A++. They are easily the loudest, crispest, nicest sounding speakers I've ever heard on any (mono output) phone. It blows my Nexus 4 away, even with faux sound modules activated.
You can tweak the headset speaker to work as a second speaker. I've done this on my nexus 4/5 and note. Sounds pretty good. I agree, the speaker on this is already good! But I wouldn't say no to stereo
The colours to me just don't look too great. I'm use to using colour profiles though, never been a fan of stock.
Only thing bugging me about this phone....touch response. It's bad.
if it had 1080p (my personal minimum on 5" display) and NFC it would be gosh darn perfect.
I just got mine a few days ago. The first thing I noticed is how much snappier it is than my Nexus 4 which it replaces. For a budget phone it really flies.
The biggest disappointment is the resolution. 720p was fine on the Nexus 4's 4.7" screen, but the slight bump to 5" makes a difference. It is a trade off though. Had the G3 come with 1080p it may not be as fast, so I will live with it.
A custom kernel that supports custom color profiles would go a long way. I do miss having that. It worked wonders on the N4.
The best feature for me is the SD card slot. I'm very much looking forward to the Marshmallow upgrade so we can format it as internal storage.

best feature
Nice camera
Perfect is subjective, but for me...
1080p non-polarized display. It's very easy to see the polarizer in sunlight.
Quick Charge 2.0
Gapless body. Hairs/debris get stuck in between the glass and body all the time and it annoys me.
Firmer buttons. They are a little mushy, hard to know when they are actually pushed or not.
Better low light performance for the cameras.

I like it, especially for the price
could have had a larger battery but not too bad
The battery is kinda huge for such a device
I just love this mobile phone
Better than honor 5x
I like the design at back.
Amazing price, outstanding battery. Good Camera, and it's got a finger print sensor. Additionally awesome ROM support on the XDA Forum.
I picked this phone up for my mother, and shes starting to like it as well. Especially the finger print sensor because its easy to unlock while traveling.

I really love this. Might be my dailt driver for the next 2 years.
really love this device..
I just picked up this phone as my LG G4 is starting to act flaky. I'm really impressed that it has the things I've needed to root for in the past. Screenshots and wifi hot spot are the first that come to mind. The camera isn't as good as the G4 (colors seem washed out on auto) but it does have manual mode, which is a big plus. And of course the price is right.

What do you mean by acting flaky?
For the price (US$195) this phone offers amazing performance and storage capacity. In my opinion there is only one downside to this phone and that is the headphone output/volume, it is absolutely horrible and hands down the worst of any phone I have ever seen and used.
I was so impressed by the specs listed when I saw the phone on Amazon that I immediately came on here and read the reviews and bought it. I never thought to research the headphone volume honestly because low output is something Ive never experienced. Sure, some phones are louder than others but the maximum volume on this phone is pathetic....even with the volume on maximum the sound is drowned out by background noise whenever I am not in a quiet room. You can root your phone and then stack multiple sound fx apps to get a little more volume, but even with everything cranked to max gain the 3.5mm jack is so under powered that when there is any bass the highs cut out because the voltage is so low it cannot even drive the headphones.
I spend more time listening to music on my phone than anything else, so to have such low volume is a major disappointment. I would love to keep this phone because everything else about it is so smooth but I love hearing my music and not background noise. Honor knows about this due to plenty of community posts on their own forums regarding the issue going back a year or more but does nothing. In all honesty I will never purchase another Huawei/Honor phone because of this and am giving this phone to my sister and purchasing a OnePlus 5T after less than a month of ownership.
Just got mine last night and so far im loving it! Runs super smooth freedompop also works on it after you put the settings in, Also it games great which i tried a game called crusader of light and it runs pretty smooth even on the highest settings which it does have little stutter sometimes very rare tho but pretty sure its just the server lag. My htc droid dna was pretty much always low on fps on that game even on the lowest settings... Game is hard too run tho.
Battery is so far great i got the phone around 5pm and mostly been gaming on it and its 6:22 am now and still has 30% lol..
And yep i tested the headphones which what dazed said and they are a bit on the low side compare too other phones like my htc droid dna but its really not that bad but can be bad with people that like there music playing loud. I say its about 15 too 20% lower than my dna which does have a good sound chip in it which was pretty known in the dna.
I tried my headphones in Bluetooth mode which are zinsoko z-h01s and its louder lol
There is a fix well kinda. You can just get one of those mini clip amps which will make it alot louder if you dont mind carrying a small clip amp around with it. Going too see how it is when i find mine.
And just one small issue which i don't like much is the speaker grill which can be easy fully blocked when holding it in landscape lol.
But other than that 2 issues a great device and well worth the money i paid which was 150$!
I agree the headphone volume is way too low, even with BeyerDynamics $200 headphones, its not loud enough.
And I just cant understand it. I even installed Viper4Android and its still not as loud at my Moto G4 Play which was a $40 phone.
Absolutely pathetic that even with Root this god-damned phone is so locked down by Emui that I cant even change the date that my cell phone data resets.
I am finally motivated to install a custom Rom, I cant live with this low volume. Its senseless to have such a nice camera paired with such garbage DAC , its like wearing a Tuxedo with a pair of disgusting old sneakers

While this isn't my favorite phone from Honor, it was one of the only Honor phones released with a snapdragon chipset. For that, it gets some points, but overall not a great phone.

Why I'm not selling my U11

Figured I'd start a thread for every one keeping their phone since there's a few about selling them. Share your thoughts.
I love this dang thing!!
I originally bought it even tho my M10 wasn't paid off figuring how much better could it be? Well the 10 is in a drawer.
Lots of storage over my 10. I can now store my flac files on the internal instead of having to get an SD card.

The same for me, I'm past my first year with the HTC 10 and still have til next May to pay it off lol. Although I still use my HTC 10 for when I am flashing or updating a ROM, I have to have a phone at all times for work. Have you rooted it yet?
This is a good phone but.. There's not much standing for it, good camera but slow in comparison to other phones, speakers are a bit better than on the s8 but they're not that special, display is good but not up there with the best and the minimum brightness is still bright for dark environments, edge sense is a gimmick, the water proofing on this phone isnt that good and ive seen people having problems with their phone due to water damage and basically i wouldn't trust to put this phone in water on purpose and i treat it as a non waterproof phone, the battery is pretty good but not that great for me, The bezels are big, there's no option to lower the brightness in camera app and no option to turn off capacitive key light, htc sense is ok but it has bloatware that you cant install and no useful features.. Nothing special aboit it and i guess the only thing good about it is that its close to stock android and the performance on it is great. Basically this is a good phone but the pixel xl 2 will have better camera, performance, battery, maybe speakers too, design and display, software and more support. Maybe also better waterproofing

Looks like you like to hang with other Samsung junkies and parrot everything they say. You all are so worried we might have a better phone that you always have to come here to snoop and see whats going on, taking notes for all the talking points against HTC. My capacitive keys lights are off. What is this bloat you speak of? HTC allows us to disable and hide any bloat if there is any. Bezels are not even noticeable when using this beauty and at least our fingerprint scanner is in the right spot and has been proven to be much more reliable. Edge Sense is by no means a gimmick, I think we are well past that talking point. Any reasonable person knows not to intentionally drown your phone, and if you do you are supposed to dry it first before using. HTC specifically states this. The battery has already shown to beat the competition. The mics beat all of the competition, 3d audio recording. There really isn't much to complain about this phone some people just can't stand that something might be better than their beloved, super almighty Samsung giant. It's like it's their mission to make sure no one wants to experience it. "LOOK AWAY! LOOK AWAY!" LMAO

Yeah I didn't want to either with this beast. It really isn't needed but there are a few things that make it worth it and the main thing that always draws me back to HTC, the freedom of having an unlocked bootloader. Just a few minor things I enjoy like all black theme and apps that require root like the new edge sense plus. To say there isn't anything special about the U11 is just not true. There isn't much you can't do with it especially after the next update.

Did u even read the title of the thread?
Reasons why I'm keeping
1. Solar Red looks AWESOME.
2. Smooth smooth smooth. No stutter unlike my previous s8+ exynos that stutters quite often after 2 weeks of use
3. Edge sense is not a gimmick. It's useful especially after using the edges sense plus app (waiting for the huge official update promised tho)
4. Camera is awesome. Id rather have one lens phone that excels in image quality than a dual camera phone that is only mediocre or even good
5. Battery life is good enough for me. Dual sim, all day mobile data 4g, 6+ screen on time, 20 hours of total standby time. What I did was disable all bloat especially news republic.
6. Did I say solar Red is AWESOME?
7. That speaker.. Really love watching videos on it, good enough for listening music when I don't have my bt speaker around. The included noise canceling earphone is also very very very good. Haven't been using many bundled earphones for previous phones. But this one is a keeper.
8. Never had any problems with waterproofing. Then again I will never believe in waterproofing on a phone since I had incidents with z1 compact, Z3 compact, s5.
9. Fingerprint sensor is EXCELLENT. I have greasy fingers which usually problematic when using fp sensors. Had problems with p10+, s8+, Pixel xl, xzp. 99% of the time it works with this phone.
10. The fact that overall this phone bests everything on the market. I don't have premonitions on phones that comes next. But as things stand this phone is the best bet.

I'll sure drink to this list. The phone is a real pleasure to use and fiddle with.
I've been unlocked and rooted the phone, pretty much I'll stick with it for some periods. That's no perfect phone on Earth when you switched to others you'll find some other problems eventually.
What I don't like is the camera noise though the details is great but it got too much really and do need some more denoise. The size is a bit big for 5.5" too.

That's for you to decide, but here's my honest opinion. If i was supposed to use any Samsung phone, it would be the Note 8, and that's because of the 6gb of RAM, along with the refinements that are included in Samsun's 7.1 rom. The Note is DEFINITELY more fun that the U11, and that's coming from a diehard HTC lover.
However...I still don't feel that Samsung touches HTC when it comes to optimization and performance over time. I highly anticipate that the U11 will be pushing through the bits and bytes much more gracefully than the Note 1yr from now. Samsung ages horribly, and I'm talking from experience. My wife always gets the equivalent Samsung device when I get my new HTC...EVO vs Epic 4g, EVO LTE vs S3, M8 vs S5, S7 and S7 (got it with a BOGO...regrets....), and U11 vs S8. My phone always comes out on top for a longer period of time. So, I'm not simply blowing hot air when I say that HTC has much more consistent performance than Samsung.
Well, Samsungs are consistently inconsistent with performance...so my statement isn't completely accurate.

Should I pull the trigger?

Hi all. I currently have an S7 provided by my company on Verizon here in Raleigh NC. but I am just not a Samsung guy.
Wasn't really considering this phone but after the price drop I stopped by the Sprint store tonight to check out the display models. They had 2 on hand. One black and one white. After all the negativity surrounding this phone I wasn't expecting much. I have to say that I came away very impressed. Both units were as speedy and smooth as any phone I have ever seen. On both units the camera launched quickly and took clear photos with plenty of detail in normal and mono mode. No lag, crashes or any other issues with the camera or any other apps. The build number had 16 in it and I know the build number 20 came out that a lot of people are calling a night and day difference. I guess my only concern at this point would be the compatibility with Verizon. Any issues there? I have seen some complaints scattered. Not sure if any of the updates addressed that. Also, how is the audio quality? I have to say the Verizon HD mode gives me really good call quality and I listen to a lot of music on the phone as well so that is important for me. That being said, the music quality on the Samsung is a sore spot. Much worse than my previous phones which have always been rooted and Rom'd with Viper audio.
Anyone have Viper working on an Essential? How is the call and music quality in general? Is Verizon as a carrier a deal breaker?
Thanks in advance.

I would 100% recommend this phone, especially at its new price. I've been using it on Verizon since released, with no issue. HD voice /VoLTE working fine here. I had it fully functional and configured on my previous phone so I just popped my sim card in and enabled entrance lte in the settings and I was good to go.
The feel, size and build quality are unmatched in my opinion. I like the feel and size better then my Pixel 2 xl tbh. The camera is much better than it was initially, nothing amazing but pretty good overall. The steady updates have certainly been promising and essential has been very transparent with its user base. The biweekly AMAs have been great.
As far as audio, I read the included adapter is actually really high quality producing great sound. The little I used it out sounded great but I don't have any high end headphones any more.

Great, thanks for the information. That alleviates my fears for sure. Just wonder if I will wait for that Ocean color.
I have been using the PH-1 on Verizon for almost a week now with no issues. No phone is built like this one. Love have a big screen in the small form factor. Only thing I had to do was set up Google Voice for voicemail but that is no big deal and it is nice to get the voicemail in a text also.
Tech Crunch puts it up there with the best of them, after the updates.

thanks for the feedback guys, definitely going to pick one of these up

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the HTC U11+, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the HTC U11+ is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I am not at all happy that I bought the HTC U11+. Overall, this phone is a 7 out of 10 at best. I am on T-Mobile and not happy. I have been with HTC since 2009. And was always impressed. The last phone was the HTC One. This U11+ is simply unreliable.
Calls: When I call people they are frequently unable to hear me on the first call. Maybe they do hear me on the second call. We do hear each other if they call me back.
Gmail: Frequently, the gmail app does not load properly. It will give me a white screen. I go out, and come back in, and we are fine.
Battery: It lasts about 30 hours. But I am not a heavy user, and do try to keep location turned off.
Speaker: Sometimes caller does not hear me via speaker phone.
T-Mo tech support said that this phone does not have LTE 1900. Therefore I am operating on 4G 1900. That is not T Mo's sweet spot.
Did I complain enough? I can give you a fresh one. I came back to xda seeking root options, but I think it is a bit early for devs. But they do always save the day. So, only love for this community.

I concur the Gmail bug. Also, the notifications drawer, in the home screen, takes several tries to come down when you pull it down from the centre of the screen. Finally, sometimes, the auto-brightness does not do its job with the brightness very low.
Apart from that, the rest is worthy it.

Sorry to hear you are not enjoying the device. I was concerned about my mobile signal and speed so I downloaded LTE Discovery app.
My U11+ never shows that I am on LTE on the status bar. It always shows 4G. LTE Discovery app shows I am connected to band 4 LTE and speed test shows the same ball park up / down speeds as my Pixel here in SF.
I like this phone ALOT but unsure if I will keep it for the long haul.
I live in the UK and the phone works perfectly fine even though is the Hong Kong version. People in the US should know that this phone was not meant to be sold there.
I am using Taiwan model of this phone on Tmobile in bay area and have none of the issues mentioned above by pklunavat. This phone has a score of 11 on 10 for me. Excellent phone in every regard. See my impressions/review thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-u11/how-to/impressions-review-phone-small-episodes-t3714841
This is the best phone I have ever had. Better than the U11. It offers great performance, design and features.
I love the Sound over Earphones 1++++++
I'm loving this phone
Brightness is good for me, night filter built in is nice to have
Edge sense carousel is great, and I've had no problems as mentioned above
However, I'm disappointed with the camera. It got really good reviews, but it seems that any shot with motion in it comes out blurry
Shots of buildings or landscapes are great, but when I try to take pictures of my kids, it's blurry. Apparently a lot of new smartphone manufacturers are concentrating on HDR processing rather than getting bigger sensors. A friend with an iPhone 8 has the same problem, as does another friend with the Pixel 2 XL.
I'm trying the Google Camera Port on my U11+, hopefully it will show some improvement....

Agreed. I Live in Australia and purchased the Taiwan version. Works like a charm. Love this phone!
Well, do I love it? I do like it a lot. I'm coming from the HTC 10 which I really loved but in the end the battery wasn't up to scratch anymore.
The U11+ is large, almost too large for my jeans pockets but that's not surprising, the phone dimensions were no secret. I got the hyped transparent black version and I like it but I think it's far overrated. Thanks to that ultra glossy glass back it's impossible to use the phone without a case, I'm using a cheap transparent flexible bumper thing which does the job.
The battery life is great, it easily does 48 hrs (without any optimisation other that disabling News Republic) and more (actually more than 72hrs over Christmas when I hadn't used it much) with the same usage pattern of my old 10 which lasted about 10 hrs in the end and one full day when it was new so this is surely a great improvement. The screen of the 10 is the better one I woould say, especially that purple tint when scrolling doesn't look nice, but it's sharp, bright and the colours are good.
I haven't taken many photos but the few I took were at least as good as the already very good 10's camera. The earphones are amazing and so is the fingerprint scanner.
I won't say that I love it but as mentioned before, I like it a lot. I'm still happy that I haven't bought the 5T instead out of impatience! It's also still early into the phone's life, there hopefully will be a few more tweaks and improvements over time.
Coming from galaxy S8. I can say this is the best device that I have ever had. Last HTC device I was using was htc m9.
Used my U11+ for a week now and this is absolute a real good device, it's fast and design is perfect.
Hi, coming from HTC 10. In my opinion, the HTC 10 was a good phone. But the HTC U11+ is absolutely thrilling me. Usually I rooted all my HTCs directly, so far I don't really have any desire to do that, because the device does everything I need.
The sound is great, the battery is excellent. The whole thing is completely stable and I personally find squeezing phenomenal, especially with Edge Sense Plus.
I just returned my Pixel 2 XL for the annoying blue tint and pretty happy so far, not regretting at all.

So while I'm considering the U11+ for its not so absurd price, you're telling me that you got from the Pixel 2 XL to this phone? Nice to know.

I was originally intended to buy the U11+ since I heard the rumors about its existence and that it was meant to be the Pixel 2 XL, so I was curious about what kind of device was this.
For things of life, I finished buying the Pixel 2 XL with a nice discount like 3 weeks ago.
Since the first time I turned on the device, I knew I was not going to be happy because of the screen and the annoying blue tint. I think people out there who diminished the problem is because they are not used to good screens or they are blind, and moreover, when they tell you "I look the phone straight forward", is bull5sh1t as well, because I faced plenty of situations when I couldn't see the phone straight forward and it was annoying.
People can say you can have the best camera, the best software updates, unlimited space for photos and videos, no lag, etc, but let me tell you that all of those "selling points" for the Pixel are not that good:
Best camera - Honestly, I made a photo comparison between the U11+ and the Pixel 2 XL, and in 7 of 10, the HTC was better and with more detail, text was more legible and forms were sharper. I think that HTC learned something after making every Pixel so far, but when I show the pictures, people just blame me and say I'm crazy. Video on Pixel was horrible and the audio extremely poor. The difference in aperture indeed makes a difference, even when it seems a small one.
Software updates - Yes, you have them, but guess what?, it breaks compatibility sometimes with apps. With the Pixel 2 XL I had a lot of force close applications, so what's the point of having the latest release if Google is not obligating developers to update their applications timely?. Yes, 3 years of software updates, but honestly, who stays with the phone for 3 years?.
Photos and video - I don't use Google or any other storage service to have all my photos and videos. I'm old school, and I put everything is a hard drive. I think is safer, besides, I don't like that certain things of my private life are around in the internet.
But the screen is not the only issue, I faced a lot of other hardware and software issues along the way, and thanks to the extremely bad quality control from LG and Google, the device you are getting is overall mediocre quality. I was expecting to receive a device with no serious bugs and well built because it a phone directly from Google, but the reality is totally another one.
Overall, I faced the following issues that made me return this phone:
Blue tint
Slow fingerprint sensor
Super slow "fast" charge (taking no less than 3 hours)
Bluetooth issues while streaming music
Problems with Android Auto
Banding while recording video
Awful sound and video quality
Coming from the Mate 9 Pro, one of the finest devices I have ever had, was a big hit for me to change to the Pixel 2 XL because all of these issues. Each time I saw the screen, it just made me sad and made me wonder: why a €1K phone have these kind of issues?, and moreover, what kind of idiot am I to buy and accept something like this with all these flaws?. Google is not getting my money this year, and believe me when I say that I'm a Google fan, but quality and product overall is not in pair with what most flagships are offering.
Still I see why people is buying and defending the Pixel, and in the moment I was packing it to return it, I felt bad, like if I was betraying Google or the ideology. At some moment I felt fear to return it and better keep it and accept the flaws, but that makes me no different from all the iSheeps you see out there that buy everything that comes with an Apple logo in the back, something that I clearly hate, because we are becoming zombies instead of intelligent consumers.
I have the U11+ for a week now and I can say I feel home again, is like having my old Mate 9 Pro, but with Android stock, and I haven't faced any issues AT ALL, just perfect, smooth and awesome behaviour. I can highly recommend the device.
P.D.: Sorry for the long post.
I have been using the U11+ since December 21st and I love it. The phone is very fast, has a very good display and a great design. The only negative side is that it needs a bit more care when holding it in the hand not to fall.
Overall, this is a great phone and it is the best HTC has ever made.
Hi guys,
Do you know if we get the full Oreo functionality and features? I know about PIP which requires a subscription to Youtube, do we get anything else? I read that Smart Text doesn't work in the U11 section...

Smart Text is not working from me, and I didn't notice it until you mentioned it.
PiP is working for me with maps in driving mode.
Besides that, I haven't noticed much.
