[GUIDE] [OREO 8.0] ROOT + TWRP + DRM Fix | DOCOMO S0-01J | 41.3.B.2.2 - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

***NOTE***
I am not responsible if your device explodes during the process. So Please READ carefully before proceeding.
Put all the flashable zip files on your external storage before you start the procees to avoid delay.
And make sure your bootloader unlockable is allowed.
I created this guide for the Docomo version of Xperia XZ Oreo 8.0 users and I am having difficulty flashing the global version.
Since there is no ftf file for XZ Docomo's, here is the short guide for rooting it.
Watch the tutorial on YouTube :
https://youtu.be/v1mWauNkXg8
1.) Downgrade your XZ to Marshmallow, here is the link for the Japanese firmware https://ftf.andro.plus/ you may use the version 39.0.B.0.361.
And backup your TA.img.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236
2.) Update your SO-01J to Oreo 8.0 via Xperia Companion (since no ftf for Oreo) and unlocked your bootloader.
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/
*Make sure that the OEM Unlocking in Developer Option is ON
If you encounter some errors during the process, I suggest you should have the latest 39.2.B.0.336 Docomo firmware and the two (2) files from Xperia companion for Oreo update. You can grab the file before proceeding to update the process.
file location:
C:\Users\zed\AppData\Local\Temp\xperiacompanion\deltaupdates
3.) install the latest TWRP from here
https://dl.twrp.me/kagura/
Code:
fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img
and factory reset via TWRP[to eliminate the password entry during bootup] then flash the patcher by @AdrianDC.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz/development/mod-sony-stock-patcher-xperia-xz-t3576493. I attached the zip I used below.
4.) pull the kernel.img via adb or terminal via TWRP. I prefer TWRP, and make sure to use an external SDcard since the internal storage is not mounted at this moment.
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=/sdcard1/kernel.img
5.) use the rootkernel V5. 23 (unofficial 2.5) by @serajr to patch your kernel.img
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74724162&postcount=2793
Here's the link of patched Docomo's stock Oreo 8.0 kernel 41.3.B.1.140 and 41.3.B.2. 2:
***41.3.B.2.2***
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eKsvM7s9j8RbEDK8xLUEhrfGi-NcU9Zf/view?usp=sharing
***41.3.B.1.140***
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tSrOG-pReY-nZtXQWDoDrZXC6qsAcuLL/view?usp=sharing
6.) flash the created boot.img using fastboot and restart to boot up (please be patient).
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
7.) install safetyNet cleaning Tool, DRMFix and magisk to root your device.
8.) all done.

you must sim unlock(openline to all carriers) your device to make the bootloader unlockable.

wondering you howto unlock bootloader? My phone got simlock unlock long long ago, but my bootload still locked.

Bootloader and sim unlock are 2 different things. You can unlock sim but have bootloader locked and vice versa and any combination as they are not the same thing.
PS, I added hide tags to your posts as the images were rather large, I hope you don't mind

Apparently not, the OP of this thread includes unlocking the bootloader in its instructions. However, if your bootloader says
'Bootloader unlock allowed:No'
Then there is NO way to unlock your bootloader.

Yes, I agree that sim unlocking a and bootloader unlocking are two different things. But regarding Rooting Status, specifically on "Bootloader unlock allowed" maybe they have in common.
I have an Xperia Z5 Au before a carrier locked, and it says "Bootloader unlock allowed = NO". But when I unlocked the carrier using flashmode (not thru code), the status changed "Bootloader unlock allowed = YES", from no to yes.
So it has a relation between the sim unlocking (depends on the method) and allowing the bootloader to be unlocked. But then again, unlocking the bootloader is different from sim unlocking.

If this is true, you are the ONLY person that I have ever heard that has changed this status without asking Sony or the carrier to do it.

As have you stated, only the carrier or sony can allow this process. I don't know the method of Sony, but for the carrier, they provide us codes and the other one is thru flashmode using a sim unlocking tool which I am using(it's paid though). Or maybe the sim unlocking tool comes from sony(just guessing here).

This is the first time i bought docomo phone, and i hate it very much. What the fak is this bootloader locking. Xioami also do that, but they give the unlock for free, its just that when we unlock it, the guarantee become invalid. I don't care about the guarantee, i unlock just 3 days after bought it. This is gonna be the last time i bought from docomo, never bought it again.
Phone which cannot be customized, is same like nokia 6600 in the past. Only good to fight thief by throwing it straight to the head lol.

This is very interesting. Unfortunately I have unlocked the SIM card with the code provided by Docomo. Of course the Bootloader unlock is still set on No. I guess there is no way to reverse the SIM unlock and then use your method?

I can't guarantee you that it will work but you can try it. but it's not free and you need to buy the credit around 20$~25$.
I guess it may work. because it worked with my Z5 Au(regarding bootloader unlocking allowed).
I believe the tool was introduced here on xda in one of the xperia thread long time ago and it's now being used for business purposes..

[DISCUSS] Unlock your Xperia Play boot loader ( ROOT is now possible ? )

Hello,
Sony Ericsson now made it possible to unlock the boot loader of your Xperia PLAY!
Go here for instructions on how to do so:
unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
It is possible to unlock the boot loader for certain releases of our 2011 Xperia™ phones, such as Xperia™ arc, Xperia™ neo, Xperia™ pro and Xperia™ PLAY. Your phone has to fulfill a number of requirements, for example, you can’t unlock the boot loader if you have a SIM lock protected phone.

For now it means we can root the phone, which I am attempting at the moment. And yes, with root, you can remove the stock apps.
windows (win 7 ultimate 64bit) tells me the android_winusb file isnt the right driver.
Any tips ?
and so it begins....
and by the way it won't work with sim locked devices.

With the unlocked bootloader, you can install the root easily and without having to use or find any exploits first. That said, it is possible that some exploits will eventually be found in the play that allow rooting even with a locked bootloader.

ive a feeling the rom dump will have to modified and flashed... but what flash programs do we have for the play will the X10 one work?

for the arc wonder if it will work on ours?
What if I unlock the sim lock on this then can I unlock the bootloader?
Anyone with a simlocked phone tried this yet?
so i suppose there is no point in going ahead with this at the moment.
forgot to backup syandard driver and uninstalled it before trying to install the driver SE provides... reïnstalling android-sdk and somehow it can't find java now... I recommend not to use the SE .ini file
Edit: succes!

You will now be asked for drivers. Point to the usb_driver-folder where you placed the android_winusb.inf-file, and select the Android Bootloader Interface-file. If you are not asked for drivers, and your phone starts to boot as usual, it is not possible to unlock the boot loader on your phone.

LG G4 (all variants) Unlock and Root Discussion/News (ONLY)

Hoyo folks.
So I'm sure you've all seen the plethora of "Do we haz root?" "How 2 unlok?" "unlok guide here"(which doesn't work) ect. Here in this thread I will attempt to summarize the current status of Unlock, Custom Recovery, and Root for each model.
Some of our devs now have Devices in hand, THANK YOU TO ALL THAT HAVE DONATED! It REALLY helps the entire G4 community! Now we wait with baited breath. (No pressure guys)
So without Further ado, here is a list of the status of all devices.
CURRENT Unlock/Recovery/Root Status, in order of success:
H815 (Europe Open model ONLY) -
Unlocked? - YES (Via LG's Official Unlocker)
Custom Recovery? - YES (TWRP info)
Root? - YES (Root Info)
NOTE: LG's offcial unlocker is a PERMANENT change. You cannot Re-lock, if you wanted to send in for a warranty claim. If you aren't willing to do that, lets wait and see if the dev's efforts will pay off with a more friendly unlock (which it may or may not)
H815 (Asia) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H815 (USA) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H815 (France) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H815TR (Turkey) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H818P (Thailand) -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H818N -
NO to all - "adb reboot bootloader" gets into bootloader screen, locked
H811 (T-Mobile) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
H810 (AT&T) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
LS991 (Sprint) -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
F500S -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
F500K -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
F500L -
NO to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work
VS986 (Verizon) -
No to all - and "adb reboot bootloader" doesn't work, AND no "Enable OEM Unlock" in developer settings.
I suggest editing the thread title to be more concise/official since that is the intent of this thread:
Something like "LG G4 (all variants) Root Discussion/News"
After OEM Unlocking in Development settings and rebooting, TMO G4 reboots only after adb reboot bootloader. Anybody confirm this for TMO G4? We need root first!
For any one that ones the source code is available from LG.
T-Mobile
International
Both kernels are compile-able with a little finagling.
On Root:
From what I can see in the International code is there are the defprefs for all of the p1 versions, and it doesn't "Appear" to have ping pong patched.
I have heard "rumors" that jcase , autoprime and thecubed, are working on a root for the device, but I have not heard from either of them. They did just release pingping v6 which supports the M9, a 64-bit kernel, meaning they have made one that works with the 64-bit linux kernel. For any one curious about their progress you can always check them out on twitter. For those of you posting about root and such, you can always see if there is anything you can do to support them in their efforts.
Thanks for making the thread, I think this phone will be a fun one, and I do expect to see some great things happen.
Have a good day all!

Thanks for confirming. Same behavior on my TMo G4.
Not as skilled as some but I do currently maintain the HTC One M8 for DirtyUnicorns.
I have my G4 pre-ordered from Verizon. It has shipped today and current tracking has it arriving Tuesday 6/2. If no one beats me to it, I will post at least the basics of how that variant functions in terms of adb and fastboot. Anything else needed I will gladly try to provide from the VZW variant.
Ok, so I'm I correct that its possible to root (when available) without it being unlocked? And with just root you could run apps like Titanium but you couldn't install a recovery or different rom while it's still locked?

I know with the last LG I had, the Optimus L90, there was a LAF partition the you had to zero out to get to fastboot. Once that was done, you could:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Now this was on a T-Mobile device, and T-Mobile is known for not locking bootloaders. I don't remember having an unlock.bin file, but I could be mistaken.

Yes, I have adb set up correctly.
Yes, I have tried different USB cables, including the stock white LG cable.
Yes, I have updated the SDK Tools to 24.3 (latest) and Android 5.1.1. I can get adb to talk to my N7, S4, and my M8 fine. Just not my G4.
Yes, I have USB debugging enabled on the phone.

sudo /home/username/SDK/platformtools/fastboot oem unlock " or adb reboot-bootloader"
sometimes had to use su, im sure you could do the same on windows.

You don't need to unlock it, that toggle being there means the bootloader isn't locked in the first place. Just untoggle it and you're good to go. Besides, I knew for a fact before I created this thread that the non-branded international model didn't have a locked bootloader. Samsung do not lock bootloaders, certain carriers when they order their phones ask Samsung to lock the bootloader for them before then applying bloat and carrier features. I'm just hoping at this point that Vodafone UK isn't one of them.

Wrong, that toggle is not bootloader unlock, nor is it an indication you can unlock your bootloader. It simply is a setting within android OS to allow you to use selinux permissive kernels. Even the AT&T S6 had it, and their bootloader is locked down tighter then a submarine.

You try to flash a custom kernel using ODIN, if it boots, it's unlocked.
I would assume there is an indication of whether your device is locked or not in the rom download screen as well.
Beware that flashing a custom kernel on the device will trip the knox counter to 0x1, which on Snapdragon SOC is irreversible (a fuse is blown), it can be undone on the Exynos version (as the flag is stored in eMMC) if the Engineering/JIG firmware ever leaks (this happened a while back on the Note 3)

That's FRP, which stands for Factory Reset Protection. This relates to the OEM Toggle option I talked about earlier in the thread. I was under the impression that, in order for that to be off when you get the phone, the bootloader is unlocked. But according to _Dennis_ that isn't the case.
I would really like an easy way of finding out if Vodafone have locked this bootloader without flashing a custom kernel, of which there are none at the moment anyway. If this thing is locked, I'm returning it so only have a small window to do so.
Been searching everywhere, but it seems the only way to tell this for sure is to flash a custom ROM\Root the phone and see if it works.
Going by past experience with Vodafone since the original S phone, it hasn't been locked, so it would be a shame if they have decided to start doing this!

Most latest posts on that thread indicate its unlikely to be locked, but we still need to wait and see.
We may even have to wait for root to become available before we can find out!
EDIT..............................
if its an international non carrier, sim free and purchased outright from samsung or anywhere else; then the boot-loader is unlocked or at the very least easily unlockable

I've since discovered your claim is completely wrong, it has nothing to do with selinux state, and it is related to the bootloader as I indicated. Read the following:-
http://android.wonderhowto.com/insp...ndroid-even-if-you-dont-plan-rooting-0167840/
Also, look at the description under the toggle.
However, I'm unsure if it does indicate the bootloader is unlocked at this time.

Interesting. Ill see what mine says when I get home. Its strange I never had this on my other Samsung S devices, so it must be new.
My Verizon S7 Edge also has this toggle. I don't know if it actually unlocks the bootloader though.

Could you boot into your download mode and post a photo of the screen? I'd like to compare it to mine.

There is a way. Go into download mode, connect to PC and you can check via the fastboot command in a command prompt.

strange, i don't have fastboot commands works on Download mode.
I always use them with my LG G4
it seems fastboot commands are not allowed ...
My wife said the same when I run through the instructions at home over the phone, I thought it was simply my laptop and a driver error. But perhaps there is an issue with the fastboot command with the S7's bootloader.
I need to find out today if this thing is bootloader unlocked, so I can return it fast if it isn't.

Wrong, that toggle is not bootloader unlock, nor is it an indication you can unlock your bootloader. It simply is a setting within android OS to allow you to use selinux permissive kernels. Even the AT&T S6 had it, and their bootloader is locked down tighter then a submarine.

The dumb thing about this is if you can't boot the phone you cant toggle that option, you can't unlock the bootloader to flash a stock rom.

Prerequisites:

Unlocked bootloader
TWRP installed
Basic understanding on how to use TWRP
If you don't know how to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP see post #2
I am using my device the [FRD-L04] as an example in this guide.
Step 1 Get Firmware
Create a folder on you computer and name it "oreo-update".
Go to the Firmware Finder website and find the Oreo update for your device.
Left click on the "filelist" and it will display three download links. One for "update.zip", One for "update_data_full_public.zip" and One for update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip.
Copy and paste each download link for your device into your browser's address bar and download them to your "oreo-update" folder.
You may see more than three files. The last one will have your model number in it.
Now go to your "oreo-update" folder.
Rename "update_data_full_public.zip" to "update_data_public.zip"
Rename "update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip" to "update_all_hw.zip"
Step 2 Get HuRUpdater
HuRUpdater is a great program that flashes unapproved and approved updates in TWRP.
Go to the HuRUpdater post and download the latest version to your "oreo-update" folder. Be sure to hit the thanks button while your there.
Step 3 Install Oreo
Copy "oreo-update" folder to your SD Card.
Boot to TWRP
I recommend doing a full backup and a wipe before flashing.
Choose install from the TWRP menu and select your SD Card
Navigate to your "oreo-update" folder and flash "HuRUpdater" it will prompt you to hit the volume down button to start the process.
HuRUpdater will flash the update for you. I ended up with three errors which didn't seem to matter.
Reboot and enjoy
Optional Flash TWRP
It may be possible this process relocked your bootloader. So you may need to unlock your bootloader again.
Download the latest version of TWRP from this post. This TWRP wasn't designed for our device but is the closest to a fully working TWRP I could find. DO NOT post any problems or bugs in that post!
TWRP 3.2.1-0
The fastboot commands have changed. The new command is "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY.img"
If you like this guide please consider hitting the thanks button.

The only things I have found is it can't decrypt the Data partition and it tries to mount a partition that isn't on the Honor 8. It will wipe the Data partition though. I'm sure it is only a matter of time until someone builds one for our device.

I seem to be having trouble making it past the registration. I get "system is busy". If I remember correctly you have to register first. Then you can request your unlock code. You might want to try the alternative methods listed.

I can't say for sure, but I would think so as long as you have the stock recovery installed. I know that when I flashed back to Nougat this way I was able to get OTA's.
Check this out. It looks like Huawei is giving us the big middle finger.

I know it is old news, but I don't think the age of the article matters as much as the fact is that Huawei will no longer be giving out unlock codes. Just about every article you read is from that time period because that is when Huawei made the announcement. I admit I might have missed the bus on this one.

Once you have the unlock code go to: One Plus Unlock Token Page
If your phone does not show up in fastboot and you are on windows 10: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-fix-device-not-showing-up-in-fastboot-mode-windows-10.4194491/
The drivers will not install in windows 10 unless you Disable driver signing enforcement first.
In case you did not know, your phone comes with driver installation software that will show up when you plug your phone into your computer. However, if you have USB debugging turned on first, they will not pop up.
This is all basic stuff, but some times people need help with the basics!
(edited for clarity)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edited to add the following next step
One week later (pretty much to the second) go back to: One Plus Unlock Token Page (you should also get an e-mail with a link. Download the file unlock_code.bin and place it in the same directory you will be running fastboot from.
Don't forget that if you continue past this point you will wipe your phone and have to go through the setup process again. Your phone will also ask for confirmation of this.
Also, as of 11.0.4.6.KB09CB continuing will change your widevine to L3.
Open a command prompt or terminal window and run the following:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash cust-unlock unlock_code.bin
fastboot flashing unlock

Rooting instructions

ALSO,
There are differences between

AND
FASTBOOT
How long do they send the token
Can this be done with a temporary sim unlock?

Okay I know this is stupid, but since it takes a freaking week (I thought I'd sit down and flash Lineage "real quick"...joke's on me), does the OnePlus site want everything on BOTH lines of that unlock code section, appended together as one long string? Or is that two separate codes?

Just flash my EU conversion, update to the latest stable OOS, then go lineage away and forget this nonsense unlock.bin.
But to answer your question: Copy both lines as 1 line without any breaks or spaces. Then enjoy waiting 2 weeks for the code, if the website decides to work at all.

Thanks! Yep, in the end that's what I did. Flashed international FW with the MSM tool, then unlocked the bootloader without waiting for the token. Then spent about two more hours troubleshooting a bunch of unrelated stuff due to some user error, but in the end, landed with the phone on LOS 18.1 so I'm happy.

I have done everything that I am suppose to and I will say this is the not the first phone I have rooted however I will say this is by far the most difficult. Now with that being said, have you or did you run into the error telling you to enter a valid IMEI. I know mine is correct T-Mobile verified it with me several times when they were so kind to network unlock my phone the same day I bought it. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Anyone have the conversion zip????
My problem is that my phone shipped with an incomplete serial number. The oneplus token website calls for an 8 digit serial but I only have 7 digits. OnePlus 9 Pro 5G from T-Mobile. Oneplus tech said I needed to add a 0 on the front end, but if I do that then the unlock code through ADB will not match to the change. Therefore my information is incorrect. I am in touch with Oneplus, but wish there was a third party token generator for my current details. Not sure if I have any other options. Grrrr!

Shouldn't need the token on international firmware. A simple fastboot oem unlock should do it. Just be sure you have OEM unlocking enabled under developer options.

Are you on OOS12? If so, then yeah you do need it.
If you just flash the conversion, you can unlock it then upgrade to OOS12
