SMS takes a long time to send - Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 Questions & Answers

I have my Max Pro M2 updated to December Patch. I have two sim cards inserted. (From Philippines thats how it works here.) Since then ( or at least i started noticing) that the default Messages app takes 10 - 20 seconds to send every once in a while. It is a hit or miss. Sometimes it is okay. But most of the time it still happens.
I then switched to Textra and Disabled my default messaging app. But again. The problem persisted. Is this an isolated case? Am i the only one experiencing this? Is this a messaging app problem? Or is the stock android doing it especially when im on dual sim?
Hoping for your inputs.

Go to safe mode and try once then back to normal mode. That issue will figure out.

SMS issue

Hi all,
I'm using the factory Messages program & I noticed that in some conversations (not all) my replies are misplaced.
They should be the last message in the threaded sms, but they're not.
I did a hard reset, but am still having the same problems.
Please advice,
D
Are you using a 3rd party sms app? What ROM are you using?
Have the same issue - factory, bone stock device. All my incoming SMS's are 4 hours behind, so they often show up far before my latest outgoing SMS in a conversation.
Some people recommended changing your time-zone around to adjust for the difference when I searched around, but then the rest of my phone gets messed, e.g. email timestamps are then wrong.
It's a network issue I think. I have an unlocked TELUS HTC Hero and an unlocked Virgin Mobile HTC Legend and both suffer the same timestamp problem (mine is 4 hours behind) when used on Rogers Wireless. I thought it might be an Android related problem, but my Sony Ericsson X10 didn't have the problem. /shrug
There is an app that will fix the problem though. Search for “SMS Time Fix” by Matthew Precious.
I'm using stock app. stock ROM.
Right now my setting is:
Menu > Settings > Date & time > Automatic (Use network-provided values).
I'm gonna un-check Automatic & select my own timezone see if that fixes the issue.
Will report back.
Thanks all.
D
Everything stock here too. Try the app posted above to fix it.
ok,
downloaded & installed the SMS Time Fix by Matthew Precious.
But now I have another problem:
When the newly incoming message arrives, it'll show on the status bar. When I pull down the bar to go to that message, I can't find it. meaning the new message is deleted automatically.
The only program I can blame is the SMS Time Fix program.
I uninstalled the program, & so far so good.
weird..

[Q] Played with network options... No texts anymore

Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant. As I'm in Australia, I was playing around trying to connect to another frequency via *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information. I set it to AUS and backed out (pretty sure that's all I did). Then I couldn't send any texts .... at all. Failed.
I switched back to Automatic frequency - no difference....
I have re-falshed the OS with Odin, both with the most recent 2.1 release and also with one that is supplied on the xda post "OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images" (I'm not allowed to post links) (I've still got this one installed right now). Both made absolutely no difference.
I deleted all user data... no difference.
Now I have a stock phone entirely, that will not send any text messages.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
I've noticed that SMSC is blank - I tried to set it to the right number: +61411990001, but it just returns 'update error'. So I tried 0411990001. It didn't 'do' anything, but didn't return an error. It disappeared when I backed out and came back in. it didn't fix the problem.
Is there a trick to updating the SMSC that I've missed? It seems likely to be the error??
there is also no information in 'Your Phone number', and I recall that the default way to access voicemail never worked because of 'no voicemail number on the sim card'...... does this all add up to my sim card not having the correct default information? Is there a way to fix this?
....help

Here are a few tips:
1 in mobile settings click apn and make sure there is a green circle on thee right of the name for your apn. If not just tap on the circle once and out should turn green.
2 in mobile settings, click automatic network discovery then try step 1 again
3 open mms app, press menu and go to settings. Make sure auto retrieve is checked.
Let me know if this works or not.

@crazy25000: Thanks heaps, that led me in the right direction to correct the texting issue. I had no apn at all - no options and had to add it manually. I'm not sure that it worked, but perhaps. I did get to the right settings menu to fix the smsc number though, which is great.
I still feel like my sim card is not quite right - there seems to be no default data for the carrier on the sim.
Immediate problem solved though. thanks again.
i have done the same thing while fiddling with my vibrant. sms wont send because the gateway # is blank . what i did was pop it in a friends iphone and type **5005*7672*61411990001#
(61411990001 is optus smsc # yours may be different)
then i put it back in my vibrant and viola!
altho i still cant send or recieve mms..

Glad to great it's slowly getting resolved. If you don't have an apn, click on automatic network discovery in mobile settings and it will automatically generate the correct apn for your carrier. Keep me posted because this it's relatively easy to resolve so don't stress

[Q] messages, or google hang out with crashing upon sending or receiving an s_m_s msg

thank you in advance. I have an LG g2 d802 which I purchased through Amazon. The phone was working perfectly in the US with AT&T. I then brought the phone to Venezuela where I tried using SIM cards from two different carriers. With both carriers I have the same problem. When sending or receiving an SMS message, whichever app I have set as the default app crashes with no way to send a report, just a dialog box saying the app crashed. I tried wiping the phone from the phone's settings user interface, as well as installing t w r p and wiping from that. I have tried 2 different firmwares for the 802 which I found on the internet, with different version numbers of the system, and still the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could still try at this point to get messaging working?
Thanks
Greg
wow! No one has any suggestions? Anything would be appreciated!
Can you logcat it maybe? Try to pull out your simcard, flash the right kk basebands flash the rom and reboot and reinsert the simcard again maybe it works normally then. I will think of some ideas and i will repost it here again.
Maybe you need to do some build.prop modifications to set the region or what. Does your phone says to which cellular network is connected?
thank you so much! The phone has no sim card, and you can't pull the battery. I did install wildcat and I'm seeing a lot of errors relating to the telecommunications database not being available. Now I'm seeing things like 08-22 12:01:32.128 E/DatabaseUtils(1583): ¿at com.android.providers.telephony.MmsSmsProvider.getThreadId(MmsSmsProvider.java:1332)
thanks again for the reply. I believe the phone was originally from Singapore as it had SingTel apps on it. I have tried flashing a few stockroms from other regions but nothing has worked. I'm going to have to read up about the KKbuild and build prop as those are new terms to me.
Update - I tried using build prop editor to change the locale region from u_s to venezuela and it keeps default thing back to u_s. Maybe this is part of the problem? I did use the phone on a_t_&_t network before bring it to venezuela.

yes my phone does show the network it is connected to, and I can make calls just fine and I can even use the data connection. there are two carriers here in Venezuela for which I have SIM cards, with one of the carriers I am able to receive the carrier's SMS messages which show my remaining prepaid credit, but other messages from other sources crash the messaging app. With the other SIM card I have, even the messages from the carrier crash the messaging apps. So with one carrier it almost works.
I'm in a part of the country with very poor internet but in early September I will have good access and can download roms etc and can follow the instructions you gave me. Thank you! Greg

@takoateli could you post an full logcat? Then i could look into it maybe. Use for the time the textra app which Gemc has introduced. I hope that your problem is going to get solved soon

Thank you so much! That did it! What's interesting is that before installing that app my phone would not automatically get the APN information from the sim cards. I had to enter it manually. After installing the app now the phone gets the APN information from sim cards. So not only does installing that app fix the problem with messaging crashing, but it restore is the proper interaction with the sim cards. Obviously that app contains something that's missing from the stock l_g firmware.

sms issues sprint?

Is anyone else having issues receiving SMS and MMS on Sprint network. I also purchased me phone from Sprint. I am currently on software NMJ32F. I have reset network settings, and factory reset. I have updated PRL and Profile. I have pulled the Sim and reseated it. I have done everything I can think of any suggestions? Phone calls work perfectly fine. Just receiving messages is not working. Data works fine.
I have Sprint but the device is an unlocked model. Haven't had any issues but I'd say you've done everything you can. Take it to a Sprint store and make a stink until they replace the device.

That is the weird thing. I have texted myself and it works. I guess i should have added that this is happening for me for all non sprint friends and family. if they have sprint everything is okay just not if they are with another carrier.
Sprint is having texting problems with this phone and has acknowledged it. They have identified the problem and testing a fix.
The problem identified is repeatedly receiving the same text and not receiving newer ones. If you aren't receiving anything at all, I'd get in touch with support. It could be a provisioning problem.

I've been having this problem, especially not receiving mms messages and duplicate sms messages. They periodically get stuck, and the only way to fix is to get on a chat with support and have them refresh my network connection with the phone off and send a text message. I use Google voice so I can see sms messages in the voice app but know if something is wrong if I don't get a message in the messaging app.

I updated my APN and preferred network and everything is working fine since. No more repeated/delayed sms or hanging mms.

Go to phone settings>mobile network>APN settings then pick the one (or any) that you want. Open it up then tap on any name fields that you want to edit, change it as you wish. After you edited all the name fields tap on the 3 dot at the top right corner then choose save, and exit out. Make sure you check/select the APN you just edited.

I am on 311 (latest update as of July 11)
PS - I haven't tried another dialer.

Thanks for the reply ,not all contact no have the issue but specific no only have issue ,in my case I have three no with the this issue
Hi guys i got an update today, now dialer works fine
Apparently the dialer issue wasn't a Asus bug. It is a Google contact app, so it is Google's app bug.
1. Try updating the phone app and if up to date, opt in for beta then update it.
2. Check for OTA update and update if available.
3. Tell Asus your problem.
4. Visit a service centre.
