Hello. I have a Shield-TV, rooted with Lollipop Rom... How can i Upgrade to the actual Android TV?

Noob question:
What are the real differences between developerOS versions and regular?
I would want to be able to use the shield without logging in with a google account and I have heard that you can start/login to the shield without using a google account, since I have none and dont want one.

Hi everybody,
Maybe a very dumb question, Noob here, Sorry.
Is it possible to install Youtube Vanced on the Nvidia Shield TV Pro 16GB ?
I apologize if am incorrect in asking it here. But if someone has a answer for me I would be very grateful.

Hi there, I have a nVidia Shield 2015 (P2571) which I rarely used. Now that I'm starting to use it more for streaming media playback I noticed it keeps disconnecting from WiFi. I've done a search online and found it's a common issue with no real fixes, just wondered if anyone knows of a solution?
Thanks in advance.

Hey guyz! I have a problem with my 2017 Shield (not pro version). Here is the thing: i pair the controller or the remote it connects works for 30 second sometimes less sometimes a littlebit more then just simply disconnects. I did a hard reset, tried 3 shield controllers and 2 shield remotes, same problem exists. I tried with shield remote app from playstore, it works perfectly, the shield keeps forgetting only the original shield controllers-remotes. Does anyone else faced this issue, and possibly having a solution for it? Thank You!

What's the best way to grant apps root access? I just bought a 2015 Shield Pro 500Gb P2571 with the intention of using a handful of apps that require root - AdAway, AFWall+, etc. - and assumed the functionality would be built into the dev_rooted recovery roms (I'm on 8.0.1 now), but instead, the apps are just immediately denied root. Patching and flashing the ROM's recovery.img with Magisk 23 doesn't change anything - flashes successfully, but no change in app behavior. The "Installed" field in Magisk Manager still reads "N/A"
I'm probably missing something simple. If you're rooted and can use such apps (or any user apps which require root), can you please post your firmware and process? TIA

how different is android tv / shield os from a stock android os? I'm having trouble getting my shield setup using an L2TP vpn connection so it can hit my local network without needing to expose plex to the internet but doesn't seem like that's a setting that's supported on android tv / shield?
Is there a way that I can install the service via command line so I can the standard android vpn settings? My vpn functions how i want on my pixel and tab just trying to figure out shield.

Not quite a noob but most of the discussions here are frankly over my head. Not sure if I am posting in the right place but I would be grateful for any help with my issue. I have a 2015 Shield with launcher ('Launch on Boot') that starts Kodi. After updating recently the launcher has stopped working. I really miss this and have been trying to find a solution but if I understand correctly, this is no longer possible. Is that correct? Is there really no way to launch an app on boot? I don''t understand why this very useful feature is no longer available. From what I have seen, I am not the only one who misses this. Can anyone provide more information?

Also flashing the ROM's recovery.img with Magisk 23 doesn't change anything - flashes successfully, but no change in prime check app behavior.

Noob Question!
I was gifted a 2015 Nvidia Shield TV Pro that was never used, so when I turn it on it gets stuck forever asking for my google login and won't proceed (like this thread here).
I can access the fastboot menu on the unit, and I've installed the PC drivers - BUT
When I open command and type "adb devices" it shows no devices connected.
I'm TOLD this is because I need to activate USB debugging on the unit, but how can I toggle on the USB debugging if I can't get past the google sign-in for a first-time set up?
Am I approaching this wrong?
PLEASE help!

How do I find out what codename/model name I have?
I want to flash my device with https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/foster/#supported-models . The hardware model says: P2897 on the bottom of my device. I can't seem to find its codename from that.
I purchased the shield on Feb 2, 2021, from amazon https://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-Shield-Android-Streaming-Performance/dp/B07YP9FBMM

Unable to pick up STV with USB-a to USB-a cable on 3 separate windows devices. After putting the STV into dev mode and enabling USB debugging, I put my cable in the furthest USB port and put the other end into my computer. No windows "connected device" noise is made, as well as no device resembling what could be the STV in device manager. I know that both the cable and the ports on the STV and computer work because I get the SMARTLINK device pop-up when disabling USB debugging. I can't even use the Nvdia provided drivers for the STV, because there is no device to apply the driver to. What is the problem here?
Side note: I was able to ADB into the STV via my local network (network debugging) and put it into fastboot, but then had nothing to do since I couldn't get the device to do anything over the network while in fastboot. This is now not working at all and I am not entirely sure why.
All help is very much appreciated and if you need any more information please just let me know.
Thanks!

ROOT-
About ROOTING or SUPERUSER-
If you are new here probably ROOT or SU(Superuser) might be a word you are quite unfamiliar with. Probably you would not be able to guess the purpose of ROOTING. But when you are here just don't have any fear. This thread will help you for sure. After reading this you would be knowing what rooting is, the perks, the disadvantages and how to root.

Rooting in simple words is attaining of root privileges on Linux family OS including our Android Platform. Root privileges are very similar to WINDOWS Administrator. By rooting your phone you can overcome the restrictions imposed upon your device by manufacturers. After Rooting your phone you can simply Modify your whole device at your will. You could even install Custom ROMs. There are loads of benefit of Rooting. We will see few of them here.
The Perks of ROOTING-
1. You can boost your device performance by Overclocking. Please see you need a overclock support kernel.
2.If you are on Android 2.1 or less and want to use your phone as Wi-Fi hotspot you can do so by using apps as Wireless Tether for Root Users. These apps require root permission. Also you can use them if you are unhappy with Android 2.2+ native hotspot capability like lack of Bluetooth hotspoting, no WEP etc.
3. INTERNAL MEMORY FULL? Root and use App2Sd to save internal space and use SD card to install apps.
4.Root to browse and modify system files, delete them and more. Also you can get extra space by deleting unwanted apps.
5. Phone has no Live Wallpaper support by default? Enable it by rooting and copying files. You need supported files for your device.
6.Bored of same UI? Change Lib and Framework files to get a new interface,
7...........
8..........
and many more.
The Disadvantages-
1.Potential Threat of Data and Identity theft by programs having SU (Superuser or Root) access.
2. Voided Warranty.
3. You may brick or damage your phone.
Is it LEGAL?
On July 26, 2010, the U.S. Copyright office announced a new exemption making it officially legal to root a device and run unauthorized third-party applications, as well as the ability to unlock any cell phone for use on multiple carriers.
Should I root?
I cant say about this. It depends on you and your use. But in my opinion here on XDA rooting is somewhat you should surely have. If you use a Custom ROM you are already rooted. Depends on you to take risks, neglect warranty that has already expired or nearing its end soon and then enjoy the Android ROM to fullest. Please see no one is responsible if you brick your phone. So are you going to root?
How to ROOT-
1. Download SuperOne Click from HERE!
2. Go to Settings>Application>Development and switch on USB Debugging ON!
3. Switch off you phone
4. Fire Up SuperOneClick
5.Connect your phone via USB and Click ROOT on SuperOne Click window
6. When it says Waiting for Device switch one your phone
7. Wait and it will root your phone and install SU
ok, let me say that i appreciate your effort to minimise useless threads here in xda, BUT the truth is that your making useless threads yourself :/ first you make QnA then you publish another useless Q thread (and you said in your first QnA thread that ask questions here) and then you post another QnA.... And as for the guide, dharamg3 has made the ultimate sg3 info source on dev section and as for the FAQ i have previously posted a sticky in general secfion for that. So what does this thread serve for? And for last, i really do appreciate your effort but still :/

Sorry but actually this is for noobs. I was upset to see people asking how to root, cant root etc so I dedicated a thread for them so that they could ask it here. Also many new members are not having that much knowledge, they dont know what even root, flash is so this is for them. Still if you feel it worthless. Please Mod you can delete it. And again sorry. Sorry for my mistake.

Oppo Find 5 Root with CASUAL

Introduction
Here's a one-click root method for the Oppo Find 5. You can find source here: https://code.google.com/p/android-casual/source/browse/#svn/trunk/GUI/src/SCRIPTS
The way this works is it will reboot your device into fastboot, boot a kernel, inject root and SuperSU(available on Android Market), set permissions, test itself and let you know if it passed or failed.
CASUAL also provides an unroot option to remove root permissions. This can also be done from within SuperSu.
Instructions
Open CASUAL with JAVA. Do you have Java?
Select which script you want (root or recovery_
Click the do-it button
All scripts in CASUAL are automated. Simply click the button and it will "do it". If you are a windows user, please ensure you are using proper drivers.

About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Univeral Android Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. CASUAL allows for automatic updating of its scripts via pushes to the SVN server at android-casual.googlecode.com. While I expect no problems at all, if at any time a serious problem is detected with the script, i can flip a kill switch to shut CASUAL downand you will be brought to a support page.... most likely here. This is intended to add a level of security so that you know this will be safe.
Thank you very much. I will check it in few days
Edit: And, for sure, if it works, you will have a beer
Thanks a lot Adam. Will try this today.
Thank you for the script. I will try it in soon days, when I will receive my Oppo Find 5 32GB. The device is still in Guangzhou Good that I am in China
Nice,now to get it....
Could you please confirm it will work in any Oppo Find 5? Or only in Oppo Find 5 with international firmware?

It should work with all, unless there is some sort of locked down version.
I've read you have Chinese version. Is that right? If so, what about Gapps? Does them run with no problem?

thanks for your hard work
but i have a problem:
I startet ubuntu from a CD and installed the libusb.
But there is no way the "Hack Pack" could recognize the x909.
USB-Debugging is on.
I also tried it in windows. I installed the adb driver for my x909 but the "Hack Pack" cannot recognize it either.
Do know where there could be a failure?
Thanks
Wow,
Bought the phone last Friday @ ebay.com , [ getting it in about a week or so..]
and now there is root ! :silly:
Thanks for this Adam, I really appreciate it
Any plans for it's own forum?
BTW. How much did you spend on this thing, and from where? I'd like to get one as well... (If they release the sources, that is.)

There may be an update which you need. I applied a manual update last week which made ADB work properly with all previous versions of ADB. You also need drivers. I don't know which ones yet.
think I'm going to wait for the Int'l launch before getting it... probably no warranty for those chinese versions bought on ebay(and ebay/chinese resellers - >$600... oppousa.com website says $500)
might want to put th emodel number (x909), helps for searching
@those who have the device, how is it? most youtube videos/reviews have the beta version of the phone, or are just walking advertisements, wondering how good the final retail version is

Thanks for your response.
Do you mean an update for the phone? Where did you get it?
Or an update for the computer? The installation of ubuntu is completly fresh. I just added the libusb and java to run the "Hack Pack".
Did ubuntu immediately recognize your Oppo Find 5 with only libusb installed additionally? Or what software do i need furthermore?
I would like to use the Gapps but if i install the play store from an apk, it just force closes all the time. (like every other gapp)
Greetings
International firmware released:

I suppose, CASUAL also works with it, right?
EDIT :actually, info better posted on a separate thread (as this thread is for rooting the phone)

Solution?

FireTV Stick (FTVS) Root & Firmware Updates

I'm seeing multiple references to rooted sticks, but no guides.
I'm guessing those that have done it are coming from the FireTV original.
Who has successfully rooted the FireTV Stick?
What Firmware was device successfully rooted with?
Can Android OS be changed to a different ROM?
I have 2 that I got on the $19 promotion and don't want to plug them in if there is a chance I can root first.

Nobody. The firetv stick cannot be rooted currently on any firmware. Standard fire tv's could be rooted as of 1 or two firmware revisions ago.
Edit - looks like there might be a potential hardware root referenced here:
http://www.gtvhacker.com/index.php/Amazon_Fire_TV_Stick
They had something similar posted for the original fire tv but noone has been able to reproduce it to my knowledge.

Someone should OUT those gtvhacker guys, they are always "first" with these sorts of "news" items , but often its made up and they cant even give directions to reproduce.
Connecting it to computer is straight forward however I am did not get the whole thing is happening after.
It's a hardware hack, can't flash unless you feel comfortable soldering to points on the board.
http://www.aftvnews.com/fire-tv-stick-rooted-via-hardware-soldering-method/
Hard to imagine this thing isn't rootable. There is a section in the FireStick settings that allow you to enter ADB commands.

I used the fire tv guide and rooted my Fire stick just fine. I have kodi on it as we speak. You dont plug it into the computer. You plug it into the tv and get the IP address and install everything via wifi

Say again? Which guide?
Although ADB is often used for rooting other devices it does not mean there is root on the stick. The KODI installation guides refer to "ADB sideloading" and this has nothing to do with root. I assume this is a missunderstanding by Desertio.

From here.
Two importand facts, I dont know before:
You dont have to connect the stick with usb-power to get access to the nand!
The ground (gnd) solder point should go from the marked-gnd-point to the hdmi/usb shield to the gnd-point on your board. 1 hole wire is good.

What I would like to find out with your help, before I root the next device or somebody, would be to find out what is the newest hardware-rootable stock firmware from amazon, where I should update, before making a hardware-root.
Because at the moment there is no pre-Rooted rom's like, like builded from rbox or realbbb for the Fire-TV-Box-1. Also there is no unlocked-bootloader or custom recovery.
I like the hardware from the stick for that prices! And the software is getting better and better.
Sadly I had some problems with rbox x-posed modules, see here. (Got muted kodi, when enabled)
So theese are my informations about rooing an fire tv stick.

can we load on a new fire tv stick one or two revision ago to root it?
Thanks

1. Downgrades are not possible
2. There was never a software-rootable stock fw from amazon for the stick
Just look here in the future.

You don't need root to install Kodi. How do you know you are rooted?

That made me chuckle Kodi can be installed on any android update as long as you allow unknown sources

Help to enable Miracast feature to Dongles (EZCast, EasyCast, etc) NOT for Smart TV i

Hello:
I've posted a thread in my model of phone, to enable Miracast featura. As you probably know, Miracast feature is used in almost all phones since Android 4.2.x
Heres is the link to thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/zte-blade/general/miracast-zte-blade-l3-t3203223
I also quote the actiones I've been taking in Stock Rom rooted with KingRoot
Hi, this is my first post. I'm a self-experienced using Android. For year I had no problems with my devices. I had a Motorola G 1st generation who worked fine, but I waste it. Now, I bought ZTE Blade L3. Such as Moto G, Miracast feature is not enable (at least in my stock rom).
I want to know if this device is compatible with that technology (read that works in every phone since 4.2.x).
This phone has Android KK 4.4.4.
Tried to first connect trough WiFi Direct a Miracast Dongle (easycast), but the phone doesn't connect. Then, I tried whith screen cast option, and the same. Finally, I looked forums how to unlock modifying bootloader.ini, just as I had to do Moto G. I added the lines with BuildProp editor after rooting with Kingo Root:
persist.sys.wfd.virtual=0
persis.debug.wfd.enable=1
AAAAAND nothing happens
I need some help, first to know compatibility (wifi drect certification page is down, unfortunately), if there is a ROM that solve this problem (CM maybe?) and if there are other lines that I must add to buildprop.
Thank you very much for your asnwers, and sorry for the bad english (I'm from Chile).
If you need any further information, please ask!!!
UPDATE: use #MirrorEnabeler and the message is "Your Rom is lacking the audio_submix file. You must contact your device mantainer and ask them NICELY no imlement it. Please refer to the red part of the original post on XDA-Developers" This going to take long time, so decided to install stock ROM from other country using SP Flash tool, to see if it has the same problem.
UPDATE 2: Stock ROM from other country, same problem. Rooted the phone to make changes using KingRoot. Followed instructions from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...experimental-enable-mirroring-device-t2812193 The thread was closed, and will create another thread for dongles (no chromecast)
It says, or those STILL having issues,
Check /system/lib/hw directory for the file "audio.r_submix.default.so".
If it doesn't exist, ask your device maintainer to add audio.r_submix.default to
the product_packages in the device.mk file. (You may not know what it means, but they will.)
So, Asked my mobile company to do the changes, they said "the manufacter must". Contacted ZTE to do what is being said, and ther is still no answer.
Will ask in thread posted after, to see if they can help me. Please let me know if somebody can run Miracasr in his Blade (also did't found another ROM that's not a Stock one)

I´ve trying to contact manufacter to enable the feature, but It is probable that the stock ROM (from my country) is blocking the feature, just for buying an more expensive phone.
There is NO custom Rom yet stable for my rom (MTK device)
PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Regards and SFMBE.
Got the answer from ZTE.
Said this: " am sorry to inform you that you cannot have miracast individually custom-made to use on this device hence there is no authority of Miracast.
Should there be further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. "
So, they cannot create the file that I asked. So, my mobile company and the manufacter said "no way dude".
CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME IF IN A CUSTOM ROM IS A WAY TO CREATE audio.r_submix.default FILE!"????
SOMEBODY CAN HELP ME PLEASE????
REGARDS

there are no custom roms
rooting is unclear, it might be possible with Kingroot , if KingRoot works it may take several attempts
Kingroot thread KingRoot thread
Thanks, why is the situation so unclear, is the device to new? When would you expect that more details become clear on how to root the latest Fire HD from 2016?

Hasn't been many reports about rooting the 2016 model yet.
I've seen most people replying that it can't be rooted, but a couple that they could root

If Kingroot does work it could take up to 6 attempts before successful
and Kingroot is updated fairly often, once a month or so

Is there any danger using Kingroot, i.e. bricking the device?

Thank you very much, just one more question: Without root, is it able to install the Google play store, and which APKs do I need in which order?

root isn't necessary for google framework and play store
the Supertool can be used or manually with adb or just a file manager
only four apps are needed

I received my Fire HD 8 a few weeks ago, installed Google Play Store and Google Play Services from day 1, and it's been running smoothly since then.
Yesterday, I installed a system monitoring app and found out I constantly have system_server process running, with 30% CPU usage on average.
Does anybody have an idea of what this system_server process is, and why it uses so much CPU?

Hey everyone this is my first time posting and this is my first Android device, well second if you count the short time I had a Note7 lol.
I have the Google play store installed and working but I am trying to connect my playstation 4 controller but its not working. It connects and is shown under bluetooth devices but no functionality. Just trying to play PS4 remote play on it. The remote play works with the on screen controlls but they are terrible. Any help would be great as I am trying to pull away from the Apple products. Thank you everyone!
I ran the install-play-store bat, and the play store seemed to install ok on my hd8/6th gen. However, the removal of lock screen ads didn't work.... or at least not yet. Upon reboot, it initially showed a Google background/wallpaper (pic of some mountain or something) but then the amazon ad quickly appeared over it. Maybe this will kick in after some time and a few reboots...?

I have the same problem. Installed google apps successfully. But could not get rid of the lock screen ads.
I wonder can I get google now luncher without rooting(Since at the moment we can not root). Of course, the best option is cyanogen mod but I think we gotta wait for it.

stock launcher should be replaceable see

Awesome! Thank you again!
Just brought this device today, set it up and everything was working fine. Now that I installed this update, it only boots into recovery. I'm not an android noob, but I don't want to mess up this device just in case I take it back tomorrow. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.
