sm 530 battery issues - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have had this tablet sitting in my draw for 2 years last night I couldn't sleep and decided I was going to get this thing working. So I did my homework and actually got it up and running. The only thing that seems to be a problem is it's not taking much of a charge. According to accubattery with the screen off it is only charging at 4 percent per hour. The charger I am using is a 3 amp charger. With the same charger and wire my old s5 gets 48percent an hour.
I installed the latest twrp. Los 14.1 12-19 build and magisk 18.0 for root.
Does anyone know of why it would be trickle charging like this? I am guessing it is something to do with the kernel but I don't know enough about kernels to mess with the settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[Q] Really high battery drain for 2-3 hours right after charging, then settles

Hey all,
I'm not sure if anyone else has this issue (I searched the forums and didn't see anything). I noticed that the past 3 times I've charged my phone to 100%, the battery drain immediately after unplugging is around 3%/hour even if I don't use the phone. Then after the battery reaches anywhere in the 92 - 94% range, it settles down to about 0.8%/hour without me rebooting or taking any action. I know these numbers only because I have Better Battery Stats installed however I can't really tell what is chewing the battery since I haven't rooted yet.
Is this normal? I'm coming from a Note II that I rooted and installed a custom ROM and did not experience this.
That being said, I am super impressed with the battery on this thing. I am getting almost the same drain as my Note II which had a custom ROM installed.
Thanks ahead for any help/advice you can give me!
Hi i am also facing same issue. After fully charge the first 5 to 6 % battery draining very fastly approximately around 15 mins of usage then after that the battery settles and the draining will be normal.Does any one else is facing the same issue what may be the problem and resolution for this?

I noticed that as well..
I am considering rooting... not sure but I may get an answer through BBS with root features.
Also next time I charge, I'm going to try rebooting the phone immediately after unplugging from the power source.
I think that is just how the way battery percentage is calculated. I read somewhere that from the first 10 or 15 percent are somewhat inaccurate.
Sorry, I'll try and find a source for this later. Currently at school.
Are you guys charging from the wall charger or from the computer usb? And also, I remember non oem chargers tend to do this on my S4 and htc one.... haven't tested on my s5 yet though
Hi I am using the standard charge that comes along with the phone by the way what is the meaning of non oem charger

Sorry that's info I should have specified in OP... I'm using the charger that came with the phone and it is happening both through the wall and from the computer USB.

[Q] Battery is charging very slowly, but there's no battery drain

Last week I've installed a new usb port for my S4, because the old one broke. I know you will most likely think I've connected it poorly or whatever, but I don't think so, because I've had the slow charging issue before that.
I've got a couple of chargers. A Xiaomi 10.400 mAh charger, the original samsung AC charger, my nexus 7 charger, a Chromecast charger and a generic one from some store. The Xiaomi charger used to charge my phone quite fast. While playing Clash of Clans, on middle-high brightness I would still get about 1% every 2 minutes or so. Same with the nexus 7 one.
Right now however, it's struggling to get charged. It seems like the battery is draining faster than it's charging. But I've recently rooted my phone and installed the 5.0 GPE version rom, and my battery life has never been better. Recently got to 12h with about 2-3h SOT and still 60% left, which made me really happy. But if I charge it and use it, I only get about 1% every 10-15 minutes. Which kinda sucks.. (Right now, my s4 is on 87% and according to the lockscreen prediction thingy, it takes 1h06min to get to 100, while not using the phone)
Has anyone seen this problem before or knows how to fix it?
Do you charge it at your PC/Laptop?
My phone also charged very slowly when connected to the PC.. This was on original firmware.
Now I'm using GPE ROM but I haven't charged it at a PC yet.
There are some options in the Googy Max settings regarding charging.
What if it's the battery?

Nope, I charge it using a wallplug.
I must say it seems like my Xiaomi battery is charging my phone faster today. This afternoon it did about 30% an hour or something.
Edit: What it seems to be doing is charge fast at lower % battery, and charge slow on higher %. Is this a setting of something, perhaps?

I have an app called battery doctor which has 3 charging stages. From X% to 80% theres a fast charge, then from 80% to 100% it (supposedly) reduces the current to ensure a full charge (basically it charges slower from 80 to 100%). I don't know what difference there is in charging time in those 2 stages. But you say it happens on different roms so either you have recently installed an app like battery doctor or it's something else.
Have you tried charging the phone while it's turned off to see if it charges faster or same as before?

The only apps with root acces I have are system tuner, titanium backup and adaway. I uninstalled System Tuner, will see if that helps. And the only other thing that could do it is Googy-Max Stweaks.
I just turned the setting Charge Control Switch from disabled to Substitute AC to USB and got 7 % in 14 min. I feel it's quite a bit faster now. Gonna check it out while having Clash of Clans running. If it's still charging at 1% every 5 minutes, ill be happy
Just tested it for a bit, and went from 45 to 60% in 22 minutes. So I'm happy again

Brand new G4 Play Battery Issue

I bought a brand new unlocked Moto G4 Play from.Amazon Prime last week. Between purchasing it on Prime and the phone being old and OOP I got a great deal. However, I'm having a couple issues.
The first is with the battery. It charges insanely slow. Yesterday morning I had it plugged in for 3+ hours and it only charged 70%, from 15% to 85%. Also, for a battery rated at 2800mAH, it seems to drain fairly quick. Is it possible that the battery lost some of it's power while sitting around in the Amazon warehouse for so long?
My second issue is with file transfers onto my Mac. This is the third Android phone I've owned and it's the first to.cause my computer to freeze up when connecting it via USB. The charger that came with the phone is just one piece, I.e you can't disconnect the USB cable from the outlet plug. I had rummage around for a USB cable to use. It's an old cable, so I think that's what could be causing my.computer to.freeze. I'm gonna buy a new USB cable today and hopefully it fixes the problem.
Getting back to the battery, is there an app the can analyze my battery? So I can find out if it's defective or just not running at 100%? Any other suggestions on what I can do to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
As far as apps go you can check the Play Store, and go by rating to see what is best for you. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsinib.batterymonitor
Charging with the stock charger will take hours. It's only rated at like 527 mamps (or whatever it's called), but it will never charge fast. I use a 2 amp quick charger, and from around 20% to 100% it takes just about an hour.
The drain may be because it's new, and getting settled in, so it should get better after a bit of time. Plus it does take a couple charge cycles to reach its full charging potential. I get an easy 5 1/2 to 6 hours screen on time on a full charge.
Now for using a computer I don't have experience with Macs, but I have heard issues with Android and Macs not playing well together. Maybe newer/better cable will help.
I've used 3C Battery Monitor Widget.
Like said above, the charger that comes with it is very low power, you can charge faster with a 1 - 2 amp charger and it won't hurt anything since there is built-in circuitry in the phone to control charging.
When I first got my G4 Play, I charged it up and let it sit unused for about 2 weeks only checking the battery remaining periodically and it still had ~15% left after 2 weeks on standby.
If your battery doesn't get better, you may want to exchange the phone with Amazon before your return is up.
G4 Play XT1607 Battery Drain
I'd like to revive this post real quick. @adam79 did you get your issue figured out?
I bought a phone from eBay. Ok, a bunch of them. I'm buying broken, fixing, and selling. I have hovered around G4 Plays as that is what I learned with and am slightly comfortable with. This new issue has got me stumped though.
Moto G4 Play - listing stated 'will not power on or charge'. No problem, I have extra parts. I tried to plug it in and sure 'nuff, no power. Tried another battery and she fired right up with Marshmallow already reset. I replaced the charging board and it started charging but it was hot. Hotter than normal I thought. Said that it would take 3 hours to fully charge from 71%. Whatever. She wanted the update to 7.1.1 just like the two xt1609s, the other two xt1607s, and my recent xt1601. I let it update then turned it off. Battery was dead the next morning. Plugged it up and no charging animation appeared. Another battery and it fired up. The heat is coming from the metal plate just above the battery contacts. Drains the battery no matter if it's on or off. What could it be?
Info: XT1607 7.1.1 Nougat
Baseband: M8916_20250112.18.05.45.01R harpia_na_cust
Kernal: 3.10.49-g87b323e [email protected] #1
Build: NPIS26.48-43-2
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Quick charge gone

Last few days I've noticed my 6P is not quick charging. I used to be able to charge from 15% or lower to full in under an hour. Now it takes 2hrs+ to charge from any %. Today it told me it would take 2 hours to charge from 45%! WTF!? I didn't change any settings and have not flashed a new room or anything since I'm stock not rooted. I am on the O preview but I've been on it for months and this just started happening. Any help would be appreciated, tia
I'd probably try unenrolling from the beta and reverting to 7.1.2

Taking a long time to charge and not rapid charging are two different things. Does your display say "Charging rapidly"? I assume you are using the same stock USB-C to USB-C cable and charger that came with the phone. If you install Accubattery you will be able to monitor two important things: 1) charging rate in mA- the charging rate will confirm (or not) you are charging close to 3 Amps when your battery is discharged below 20% . I usually see ~2.7 A, but only when when fully discharged. -and- 2) your estimated battery capacity. In short, when your battery starts to take a dump you will see long charging times and more heat. Charge the phone a few times from fully discharged until the APP tells you the phone is full- not the phone. After fully charging a few times, go to the health page and report your battery's estimated capacity.
Ok thanks. Sometimes I get the charging rapidly message, sometimes it just says charging. Guess I might have to look to upgrade soon. Maybe a Pixel 2 is in my future

Battery/Charging Issue

Hi everyone,
Thought i needed to come to the expert on this one as i've not seen much online, but i have seen a little on here.
I'm having severe charging/battery issues on my Nexus 6p. The phone is about 18-20 months old now (purchased in nov 2015).
So I'm on the beta program so i have Android O developer preview 4 installed currently. Over the last few months ive found that my battery has been depleting rather quickly, which is not too much of a bother as i have chargers scattered around the place, either that are Benson approved or it's OEM. This last week ive been trying to charge my phone and after leaving it on charge all night i woke up with it at 90%. Then when in bed i placed it on charge and was using it before i went to sleep and i found that it was discharging (all with the OEM charger). Now it is taking an absolute age to charge so I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.
1. The battery has reached full cycle and now i need to replace it (i've ordered a replacement battery but dont feel comfortable installing it myself).
2. The charging port is messed up?
3. I need to roll back from Android O?
Please let me know what your thoughts are and if you need any other info let me know.
I appreciate the help.
Thanks
My Nexus 6P is also on the Beta Program - Android O.
The problem I am having is that my phone is no longer rapid charging ... it just says charging.
My brother also has a Nexus 6P and I used his charger and cable that is rapid charging his phone and it is still not rapid charging mine.
Does anyone else have this same problem or know of a fix for this problem?
I'm also on DP4 Android O. I had this problem when I installed every DP. I got a tip around the net. And it worked for the drainage problem don't know about charging problem. Make battery to dry. Make sure your phone doesn't still have any juice left. And Try to startup your phone for a five to ten times without being plugged. And now plugin the charger and wait till it reaches full. This may may or may not work but you can see decent battery life than the previous usage. Worked for me
