Anybody still using Xperia XA? - Sony Xperia XA Guides, News, & Discussion

I was thinking of porting some fantastic roms to this phone but I need to know if people are still using it or not?
As for me, I use it because I don't have money for another phone and I don't really need one(I'm a student).
So, yay or nay?

Yay. Something AOSP or Pixel Expierience like would be great. Not saying Sony has a heavy skin, but I just love the stock android style.

I'm still using it and looking at the current market, I'm not at all interested in buying a new phone in the near future.

Yes, here we are a lot waiting for a soul who takes this heavy charge

I'm still using this phone and waiting custom rom for a long time. rom like aosp would be great.:good::good::good:

I have sent my phone for repair, once I receive it. I'll work on porting roms

Yay

Yay please :good:

Hope it not too late. I'm too still using xperia xa. It would be nice if you make a custom ROM for it.

Hell YAY! Got like patron or paypal.me? Quite willing to support if that's what your motivation needs to get going
Carbon was my favorite custom ROM altogether...right now everything remotely to cyanogen mod, really stripped free of Google, Sony or any other pre-installed (bloat)ware would be a blessing. My personal wish list includes:
- modify grid layout of status icons
- data rate (like KB/s) monitor/indicating symbols for in- and output packets
- killing apps by holding (or double tap) 'back' button
- terminal and please, a very very simple & standard file explorer app
did I say YAY, already?

YES!

here I am!!

Yeah!!

Here! I am still using the Xperia XA I would love a custom rom such as PixelExperience for the Xperia

here!

I'm selling it right now

Fully COMPLETE Roms discussion....

Ok I really disappointed in the Xperia x10 development section.
The only usable Roms are based on 2.1. Now these roms are fantastic. Really do the job well and I would class them as fully operational.
Now the other threads based on 2.2,2.3,MIUI etc are indeed under development. Some excellent work going on and if the 3 Musketeers could only project manage then Im sure a full working rom would be achieved.
So really Im wondering why XDA does not have a full working rom section that allows noobs like myself to go to to download knowing its a fully tested working rom?
Now before the fanboys jump all over me I would state that I am a donator to worthwhile causes and development but seriously the roms released so far can in no way be advertised as stable enough for daily use. It is a phone after all....eg. In one prominent thread today a developer is congratulated for releasing a rom that cannot make a telephone call.......Yesterday one was congratulated for an update that doesnt allow the phone to even switch on!
I do notice in the majority of other areas of XDA there are plenty of full working roms for other devices. Im fully aware that SE's security on this device has so far made it impossible to cook a newer version of android without using old parts.
So perhaps the x10 forum sections do indeed need an area for full working roms. Id presume the developers would also like this so they can transfer there work to it when completed and in return be suitable rewarded for there efforts.
Your thoughts?
I'm releasing a gingerbread rom today with everything working! Oh hai jk guise nothing works lulz
On a serious note, free x10 has been great to me..only issue is camcorder, but it is otherwise perfect

Thanks for your reply. I did indeed try this ROM but I was getting way to many errors in my day to day use for it to be considered stable for daily use. I was also not keen on the support from developer. I believe he has been MIA now for a considerable time....
I do fully understand though that without that developer I would not have been able to do the majority of things I have done to my phone....Hopefully this ROM will one day be Fully working and can be classified as such...
Weird I have not had a single issue... I use my phone a lot too.
I've been using wolfbreaks 2.2.1 CM6.1.3 for about ten days and it's stable. No stock videocam but flash & apps2sd more than make up for it. Very quick and aesthetically pleasing.

Again tried and far from stable! Perhaps though that is where the issues arise....One mans stable is another mans manic!
My version of stable is a ROM that allows me to use all my hardware functions and reports no errors.....Just like stock....
Ever think maybe it's you? I've been keeping up with the free x10 thread and most people don't report errors other than the camcorder..
non working camera and videocam is a deal breaker for me, therefore still sticking with official.

No I am experienced enough thanks to this site to dowload the rom and install. If you cant see the other reports of errors in that thread then perhaps it is me and I need my eyes tested....
Battery drainage?
Screen responsiveness?
Dropping 3g connection?
To name but 3......
Anyhow going slightly off topic when really the point is too see if anyone else thinks a section for fully working roms would be helpful?

I think it's a great idea, but it will be difficult because of the word "fully worked/stable" (what for one person is stable is not for another)
Sure you could put that section in but don't expect to see a single rom that is 2.2+ in there. I realistically as much as i hope I'm wrong don't expect to ever see one in there. This phone is pretty much at the end of it's run now and the bootloader is still locked with no intention from SE to unlock it due to certain copyrighted materials and the such. Sad but a fact i think we all need to start facing.
I almost think we're at the point where there is very little more that can be done other than variations of the same roms already available.
Please do not take this as a shot at the devs as i have much respect for the work they do and without them my phone wouldn't be half what it is today. But in my opinion its time to stop wishing and hoping for things that just aren't in the cards with this particular piece of hardware.
did you come here just to complain? atleast they are making something and wasting thier time for us stop moaning and if your unhappy then dont flash the roms otherwise be happy with what you get.

These kind of bugs are always reported about OFFICIAL ROMs also Just read every thread after every update from SE etc
I'm using [MOD][rendeiro2005]Cyanogen6.1.3_v01 (CM-updated) for many weeks now for my daily use... Working awesome... Camera works, just video-recording doesn't work properly... This is the only issue... ROM works like a charm

The FreeX10 (beta4) is still 2.2.1 (I'm using it as we speak, very stable, I can't complain). The only 2.3 ROM I've seen discussed for the SE Xperia x10 is Cyanogen CM7.0 RC1 v005 Gingerbread 2.3.3, which --based on current thread discussion, I haven't tried it myself-- appears to be very unstable at this time.
If there's another 2.3 ROM for the X10 circulating the forums, I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't really looked through the entire thread.
great
I like what this was supposed to become but not what it s actually.
I'm also a new x10 user, I come from htc desire (z). and I was happy to see that it was far more easy to root the x10i and remove the root when the phone has to go for reparation.
It was not my intention to come and play with different roms, but deu to a wrong installation of a theme I had to instal a custom rom. Now, I like the stock X10 interface. so I'm looking for roms who runs better as the stock rom but look more or less the same...
any suggestions?

Not true. I don't have those issues, and neither does Eternity, Blue Sparks, etc.
I think this is a good idea, but in practice would fail. There are FAR too few "fully functional" ROMs to warrant a separate forum. Maybe we should just start using [STABLE] tags or something.
There would seriously be like 5 legit posts in that forum, and then it would get filled up with crap till it's unusable.
for u, i think the stock rom and the JIT mod will do it for u if u like the stock rom =)

Sooooooo conference is over... I can just image what can be done through development on phones now. Now that the SDK is available, hopfully we will see some ICS this month? Im excited!
What are your favorite features? (If you watched the conference)
Without source code we're basically SOL for a daily driver, but SDK ROMs are cool to check out

The face unlock seems cool but what is your in a dark place like a bar. I hope they have an alternate way to unlocking it in that situation.
The new camera app looks sweet and I love how fast it can snap pictures on the Galaxy Nexus.
Taking out physical buttons was brilliant. Not only does it make the screen bigger but this way you can have what ever buttons you like (fully customizable). Unlike now as I never use the search button on my Dinc.
i Love the idea of the facial recognition, im sure rooted devices could eventually impliment thaf into unlocking apps too.
and when they had the mess up, it looked like it went to the pattern unlock, so i guess thats a back up.
the buttons was also great, much more room for larger screens, but the lack of physical buttons also worries me a bit.
hopefully some nice development will come out of this, so far i think this is the best android version with the most features and ui changes

Here's my question...
The ICS Google Music app was already leaked a couple weeks ago. Will the other updated apps (like Gmail, for example) be made available to Gingerbread users as well (either via apks or official market update)?

I like the new font.
it may not seem practical with our phones, but you could always use the other camera, turn your phone facing you, and hope it recognized you.
the bricked layout is nice, its not as simple as windows phones, but its a great balance between simplicity and advanced customizability.
also i believe some apks in ics will be ported for other android versions too.

Yes, most likely through market updates. Although if your willing to try you could attempt to install the apk from the system dump. I might mess something else up though, and even if it didn't I don't think the gmail widget would work.

Hello! A little introduction...

Hello! I am SirMiaowsalot, and am a long time developer for Android, ever since my G1. I currently own 2 phones, The HTC Wildfire (Hence the forum posted in) and the Sony Xperia Play. As I feel the Wildfire has a more active 'scene', and needs more of a kick in the right direction, I have started development on a Wildfire ROM. I see a lot of 'developers' (or people who call themselves so) simply adding a few apps and changing the launcher of a ROM, then passing it off as their own. Rest assured, I will not be one of those people. I also see a lot of impractical decisions in ROM developing, such as people using apps not for compatibility, but for looks or design. I will be setting out on creating the most stable, practical ROM for the Wildfire you will ever see.
Features Currently Implemented
-Android 2.3.7 (Built and Recompiled from scratch, a few CM7 patches)*
-Market 2.2.7 (Also known as 'Old' Market)*
-Camera/Camcorder fully working*
-Stock clock speed at 245/633Mhz (Most stable, efficient and sufficient in my opinion)*
-Default Gingerbread keyboard*
-A clean Black/White look (Status Bar, Notifications, etc.)*
If anybody has any tips on direction, I would be happy to accept help
I will give a link to downloads once it is fairly usable and stable, and when I'm allowed to post in the development section of the forum.
E.T.A: Early December~ (Beta Release)
Cutting the crap; No pointless additions, Not based on CM7/Oxygen, Completely AOSP.
Many thanks guys!

Welcome!
It`s always nice to see a proper developer join the side of the device you own
I eagerly await the release of this ROM, as it sounds like a minimal rom (i like them small and fast ).
It also would be nice to turn your eyes to the Sense 2.3.3 roms, see if you could kick them in the right direction, or even ICS (probably harder). (this is, if you can and have time. If you don`t, there is no need to do it.)
Anyway, any ROM is welcome as long as there really is some work put into it.

I was genuinely thinking of doing a Gingerbread Sense ROM, or an ICS ROM, but I started this when there wasn't a release of ICS, and I don't like Sense in terms of UI/Performance.
I promise I will put a huge amount of effort into this ROM, I don't want recognition as a half-assed developer who just adds some apps to CM7 and expects people to download it.
I love the minimalistic, functional look, and luckily this can be achieved without any performance drops or any un-neccesary apps. Any help would be welcome, so if you've got pointers, I'm happy to look into them

Project Chameleon - Giving Android a new perspective

Hi guys, I just ran into this post demonstrating Project Chameleon and wanted to share this with you. I personally think it looks great and can't wait for it to be released, or even better, to be ported to the Xoom!

Looks to heavy and cluttered for me.

Looks pretty slick as an all-in-one package, but it doesn't look like anything that couldn't be accomplished right now with tasker, locale, your favorite widgets, and some hub-like home page setups, does it? A build your own variety would offer much more customization. Reminds me of an app I use on my note... car dock home. It is setup to recognize my dock or a bt connection in my car and brings up a totally new home screen with different apps and widgets, and cuts off wifi.

Got my access to Project Chameleon Beta have it installed on my Xoom as we speak Very Impressive and I have to say it is VERY unlikely I will be going back to the default android launcher ANYTIME soon. Anyone who did get on-board via kickstarter can still get it now. Go to the site below for details.

Project Chameleon running on my Xoom
Wanted to support them earlier already, but was only do to so now since you can pay with paypal now. It really is still in beta mode, not all widgets are included either. Only instagram, twitter (2 options) weather, news (rss) and gmail. They included some wallpapers as well, but you can load your own too. It lags a little on Team Eos JB nightly, but they said they are working on it. I do hope for some more settings and gimmicks, and perhaps some mods. I really hope for some drawer mods though, as I prefer the stock one, preferably with some options (my other launcher is nova prime).
It has a lot of potential, so I think it's a good investment in the android modding.

It's totally OK. It's your hard earned money and you have the total control over it's usage. I shared my work in both free and paid forms so that users can test and then only buy if they want to.
I too don't buy apps that often but if a paid app is useful then I wouldn't think twice.
I myself like the stock Sony look but that doesn't means that we shouldn't try new things.
For the note, I have root but not patched services.jar or superusermod but theme works.
Yet it has been previously reported that some themes fail to work that's why I wrote that.

I am selling it because it's useable.
An app/theme can never be complete. There will be something or the other to add/update.
That means I or anybody should never sell anything??

Honestly your price tag is way steap. No offense and you are allowed to charge whatever you want but may I suggest coming down on the price a bit. Notice anyone else selling xperia themes here on xda? Not saying you shouldn't be selling it but I'm pretty sure it's the reason you're getting so much negativity.
Good luck with the theme. It looks promising.

Thank you for your suggestions.
You see the negativity is not due to the price but differences in thinking.
I provided a free version with adequate theming if not much.
I linked to my guide and xposed module if someone wants to make his/her own theme or try before buying.
I am not forcing anyone to buy my theme.
They want 100% of everything at a little or no cost but as a user everyone needs to understand that that's not possible.
I am trying my best to provide the community with good content.
For that am charging a small amount which gives me boost to work better.
I don't work alone. We are a team. I will discuss with my team members for the price.
Once again thanks for your suggestions.
I truly appreciate your help.

Points taken. I definitely understand what you mean about the 100% of everything at no cost. I do appreciate your work though. I really like your Android L theme that you made, I'm rocking that one now on my ZU.
Anyways I do look forward to see how this theme will progress. I do have one request; and that is to not keep the Free version too far behind the paid version. I have seen so many Devs that provide a Free version to their Themes and don't update them. Maybe it's a time strain, I don't know but it would be nice to keep them maybe 1 version apart and that should spark the interests for trials to become buyers.
Cheers

Ya actually it's a time strain to provide support for 2 versions at the same time and as a Dev I need to keep the paid version updated for showing Thankfulness to all those bought the theme.
But that certainly dose not means that I will never update the free version.
Right now I am trying to add Boot animation changer to Xperia Themes[Only Paid for now] as one can with CM11 themes. Taking backup of original one works. Moving bootanimation.zip from Theme App to sd-card works too. Now I need to figure out how to apply the theme bootanimation.zip. I tried 3 different methods but all failed.

Awesome. When you say it's failing to apply, do you mean moving the animation from the sdcard to the media folder?

Yup that's what I exactly mean.
As Sony didn't added direct support for this in Xperia Themes, I searched for workarounds.
Do you have any idea of moving it to Media folder from sd card?

Seeing that it's failing I have a feeling it has to do with mounting and setting permissions. I am in no way a coder/dev of anything, but is there a way for you to add a command string to have the xperia themer(when applying the theme), send a command to a root browser program to do the copying and setting of permissions for you? Kind of how Tasker works.

Did I said that the theme is completed?
It's just the initial version and you are complaining about absence of assets.
If you had ever tried to make Xperia™ Theme then you will understand why Switches are absent.
Read the quote above.

That theme making part was not for you.. @beniamin24 Sorry, it was actually for you but I didn't meant to offend you. I didn't took it hard either. Actually I should say thank you. These comments help me make my works even better.
