Fully COMPLETE Roms discussion.... - XPERIA X10 General

Ok I really disappointed in the Xperia x10 development section.
The only usable Roms are based on 2.1. Now these roms are fantastic. Really do the job well and I would class them as fully operational.
Now the other threads based on 2.2,2.3,MIUI etc are indeed under development. Some excellent work going on and if the 3 Musketeers could only project manage then Im sure a full working rom would be achieved.
So really Im wondering why XDA does not have a full working rom section that allows noobs like myself to go to to download knowing its a fully tested working rom?
Now before the fanboys jump all over me I would state that I am a donator to worthwhile causes and development but seriously the roms released so far can in no way be advertised as stable enough for daily use. It is a phone after all....eg. In one prominent thread today a developer is congratulated for releasing a rom that cannot make a telephone call.......Yesterday one was congratulated for an update that doesnt allow the phone to even switch on!
I do notice in the majority of other areas of XDA there are plenty of full working roms for other devices. Im fully aware that SE's security on this device has so far made it impossible to cook a newer version of android without using old parts.
So perhaps the x10 forum sections do indeed need an area for full working roms. Id presume the developers would also like this so they can transfer there work to it when completed and in return be suitable rewarded for there efforts.
Your thoughts?

I'm releasing a gingerbread rom today with everything working! Oh hai jk guise nothing works lulz
On a serious note, free x10 has been great to me..only issue is camcorder, but it is otherwise perfect

Thanks for your reply. I did indeed try this ROM but I was getting way to many errors in my day to day use for it to be considered stable for daily use. I was also not keen on the support from developer. I believe he has been MIA now for a considerable time....
I do fully understand though that without that developer I would not have been able to do the majority of things I have done to my phone....Hopefully this ROM will one day be Fully working and can be classified as such...

Weird I have not had a single issue... I use my phone a lot too.

I've been using wolfbreaks 2.2.1 CM6.1.3 for about ten days and it's stable. No stock videocam but flash & apps2sd more than make up for it. Very quick and aesthetically pleasing.

I do appreciate though that we all use our phones in different ways....

Again tried and far from stable! Perhaps though that is where the issues arise....One mans stable is another mans manic!
My version of stable is a ROM that allows me to use all my hardware functions and reports no errors.....Just like stock....

Ever think maybe it's you? I've been keeping up with the free x10 thread and most people don't report errors other than the camcorder..

non working camera and videocam is a deal breaker for me, therefore still sticking with official.

No I am experienced enough thanks to this site to dowload the rom and install. If you cant see the other reports of errors in that thread then perhaps it is me and I need my eyes tested....
Battery drainage?
Screen responsiveness?
Dropping 3g connection?
To name but 3......

Anyhow going slightly off topic when really the point is too see if anyone else thinks a section for fully working roms would be helpful?

If thats the one on V4....then i agree its really good. Besides no video recording it has been awesome. Probably my fav rom higher than 2.1.

I think it's a great idea, but it will be difficult because of the word "fully worked/stable" (what for one person is stable is not for another)

Sure you could put that section in but don't expect to see a single rom that is 2.2+ in there. I realistically as much as i hope I'm wrong don't expect to ever see one in there. This phone is pretty much at the end of it's run now and the bootloader is still locked with no intention from SE to unlock it due to certain copyrighted materials and the such. Sad but a fact i think we all need to start facing.
I almost think we're at the point where there is very little more that can be done other than variations of the same roms already available.
Please do not take this as a shot at the devs as i have much respect for the work they do and without them my phone wouldn't be half what it is today. But in my opinion its time to stop wishing and hoping for things that just aren't in the cards with this particular piece of hardware.

did you come here just to complain? atleast they are making something and wasting thier time for us stop moaning and if your unhappy then dont flash the roms otherwise be happy with what you get.

These kind of bugs are always reported about OFFICIAL ROMs also Just read every thread after every update from SE etc
I'm using [MOD][rendeiro2005]Cyanogen6.1.3_v01 (CM-updated) for many weeks now for my daily use... Working awesome... Camera works, just video-recording doesn't work properly... This is the only issue... ROM works like a charm

The FreeX10 (beta4) is still 2.2.1 (I'm using it as we speak, very stable, I can't complain). The only 2.3 ROM I've seen discussed for the SE Xperia x10 is Cyanogen CM7.0 RC1 v005 Gingerbread 2.3.3, which --based on current thread discussion, I haven't tried it myself-- appears to be very unstable at this time.
If there's another 2.3 ROM for the X10 circulating the forums, I haven't seen it. Then again, I haven't really looked through the entire thread.

great
I like what this was supposed to become but not what it s actually.
I'm also a new x10 user, I come from htc desire (z). and I was happy to see that it was far more easy to root the x10i and remove the root when the phone has to go for reparation.
It was not my intention to come and play with different roms, but deu to a wrong installation of a theme I had to instal a custom rom. Now, I like the stock X10 interface. so I'm looking for roms who runs better as the stock rom but look more or less the same...
any suggestions?

Not true. I don't have those issues, and neither does Eternity, Blue Sparks, etc.
I think this is a good idea, but in practice would fail. There are FAR too few "fully functional" ROMs to warrant a separate forum. Maybe we should just start using [STABLE] tags or something.
There would seriously be like 5 legit posts in that forum, and then it would get filled up with crap till it's unusable.

for u, i think the stock rom and the JIT mod will do it for u if u like the stock rom =)

I'd rather post a quick question to people who are dealing with this frequently, than trawl the web, sift through junk and install something which has lots of bugs.
Cheer up, its not all bad.
Thanks for the link.
you'll have to forgive XDA, recently it has attracted many young people that get bullied at home and school, this is a place they can come and anonymously display their e-toughness. Just ignore them.
btw, i dont think there is a sense rom that has everything working like your stock version. i hope im wrong but i was interested in rooting to use sense, in the development section i couldnt find any that didnt have disclaimers about things that arent working, so i havent gotten to try it out yet. But again, maybe im wrong, and i hope i am.
Without a criteria of what he is looking for other than good and stable it's hard to give a good answer. It's not about e-toughness, it's about searching, putting together an informative post, and reading the forum rules.
'cymru' is 100% correct. All it took was a search and reading comments about what does and does not work, then nandroid backup and try the rom and see if it passes the "good and stable" test.

I'd run a stable sense rom if there was one with Launcher Pro as my launcher... I want sense for the camera, calc, dialer, calander, emails etc. not the launcher. The applications on it are just way better quality!

Well there are some roms that have ported sense camera, and apps.
I do believe my "The Official" rom has them. It didn't come stock with the sense camera, but I had it installed (easy to do from spare parts, plus I have 720p recording).
The best you can do is look for a rom with those things ported over.

Luckily i've been a member for a number of years so don't fall into this category...
If it wasn't for XDA recently attracting many young people that weren't taught at home or school in how to do something for themselves once in a while they wouldn't have to come and anonymously display their e-laziness. Just shut up.
EDIT: THANKS JRBOURQUE ^
Hi guys, if the battle for whos the cleverist is now over, heres some feed back for the advice given.
I've installed, Evils q&d sensefroyo. Been running it for a few days, its cool. A little buggy, a few force closes, high battery use, no bluetooth, but very usable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730290
Again thanks for the input, hope this helps anyone else who was looking for similar info.
Cheers.
I tried kingxclikz and Paul's r23 roms, I must say the first one is very buggy and there are no ways to use it even for 24h(though I think it needs an eclair radio),Paul's rom is way more stable but the lack of Metamorph themes, trackball mods and BT are too important.
He promised to release a new version soon so all we can do is wait and see!
Ughh. No BT on any sense ROM then?
Is anybody even working on bluetooth for Desire roms? I don't think anybody actually is. There are a few people I think might be capable like Paul but he's busy with other things now by the looks of it

What I would like to know is which one is extremely stable, or are they all?

No one is going to just hand you the answer. Seriously, it will take you all of 2 or 3 hours to research what you need to know.
There is no perfect build. You are talking about an OS that was never meant to run on the HD2 running on said phone. There is always going to be something wrong or unstable about a build. It's a matter of what you can live with. So there is no true answer to your question. You'll have to pick which one you think will have the least amount of problems and cross your fingers. You might just have to keep researching even after you get his phone flashed because I'm sure you'll have to do it again.
Or you could just teach him how to do it himself because he will have to keep up on which ever build to get the latest fixes.
There are several Builds, i prefer smal ones without pre installed software.
Typhoon or so. Its fast smooth and stable. Well my dad owns a Desire HD not rooted and there is a lot of rubbish on it.
So i think you have to read the threads wich personaly fits to your friend.

HD2 Android development stall

I know there are a lot of people out there excited about getting sense 3.0 on hd2 and all that jazz, but has nobody else noticed, the kingdom roms etc have dragged development on hd2 to an absolute crawl, we've completely dropped of xda's front page and to me it seems that its because everybody is doing the same thing and having the same problems doing such. Pretty much everything in nand development is now about trying to get camera working properly and remove graphic glitches from kingdom roms....really...do I need 15 different versions of the same rom ALL with EXACTLY the same issues, and all with EXACTLY the same time frame for resolution...that is to say, there is no time frame. I'm being a whiney little bugger I know, but seriously, and this is the worst thing I could ever say about xda...I'm bored! Its all the same and its all rubbish...I would much prefere if somebody would do me a favour and return to building a nice simple rom on which EVERYTHING works, just put some effort into that so when I see something interesting, I can just whip my phone out and take a pic, rather than having to explain to everyone nearby that my camera doesn't work because the rom was rushed out so I can have a shiny lock screen instead. The roms used to work 100%, but then everyone got carried away with sense lockscreens and quadrant scores....I don't care about any of those things...I would like a rom that just works all round. And before somebody makes a snarky comment along the lines of "if you want it so bad why don't you do it yourself?" Well...simple answer, I'm not smart enough, I love xda because we're an open community where talented people share their work freely just for the pleasure of seeing something that was never intended to be boot up on our devices...amazing! And I don't mind donating when something is GOOD, when it works and I appreciate the technical work that went in to make it work...not the technical work that went in to make it look pretty, at the expense of some fairy disastrous issues.
Please xda, enough with the benchmark willy waving competition! Please somebody just go back to making things that work rather than pretty...pretty useless...eyecandy!
And one final closer, I KNOW those issues are inherant to porting the kingdom rom...so here's an idea...ditch the kingdom rom! Just go back to desire base...yes maybe the quadrant score is only a third of newer roms...but you know what...the Desire roms FELT fast and smooth because they were simple and quite light on the cpu....all the new roms are slow and tooth grindingly stuttery and laggy, even with their amazing benchmark scores. So I say poo to benchmarking and active lockscreens...how about a working camera and a rom that actually FEELS complete?

Desire base has been ported already and doesn't need more work until the desire gets and update. If you like the desire base so much why don't you just stick to the roms already available? Ill tell you why because you enjoy trying new builds, again that's your decision but you cant then complain just because most of the devs are hard at work on what THEY want to work on rather then what YOU want them to work on!
I personally don't want them to work on anything else apart from the kingdom, why? because its down to personal preference just like yours, at the end of the day its upto each individual dev what they work on!
PS. Please go and learn how to use paragraphs and sentence breaks etc as it just gets on your nerves when trying to read big long blocks like that.

Ignorant people, like myself, don't need banning; they need educating - like in your first posting.
I don't tend to go for the latest development, but rather one that works well.
If I want to try out a different version of SD Android, then I read what the chef has posted and all the posts relating to that specific release version. If it states that the camera isn't working yet, then I'll leave it as I use the camera. If it is noted that Bluetooth doesn't connect properly to headset, then I would use it, as I don't Bluetooth.
Playing the devil here:
At some point I can understand Peteryoung and I have seen several other people complain about this as well.
I have the HD2 just to toy around next to my E71 which makes it easy to say that I don't need a +90% working image. If something doesn't work tough ... and I will try another.
It would be nice to have the old trusty working roms like the one from Rafdroid updated to the latest working apps and all of the known fixes in 1 package.
I'm no developer but I am sure some of you could tweak the 'older' sense roms and incorperate all the latest working things. The GPS fixes are a nice example.
I personally applaud the devs in that thread for feedback and just trying to get it to work using feedback and interacting on it.
If the devs are focusing on newer type of roms, so be it and let them do it.
Lets face it, Android is fun on the HD2 but still it is a bit 'playing' around.
A retraction
Guys, I'm sorry
I think I was having a right cranky day when I penned that last grouchy missive.
I stand thoroughly ashamed and rightfully corrected on my last thoughts.
I really do appreciate all the work the devs put in for free here. I really do love the older desire roms and I guess I'm getting old, starting to refuse the changes of the times
I take it all back, I guess I really should stick to what I know best and let the youngsters do what they do best...making NEW stuff, not old.
I must say, I feel a little aggrieved at the sheer vitriol my post gained in response, but hey I guess after I'd battered everybody else with my tirade - that's just what I deserve.
Anyway, I hope the community can find it in their collective hearts to forgive this old sinner - I promise I won't write any more critical tirades on xda any more!
Apologies xda, I love you really xx
Peteryoung
P.S - Was the paragraph structure a little easier on the eye this time round?
Some just are not happy with ****...hey, you don't like it, move on back to WM6.5 where everything works. This is not a native android device so be lucky these developers are spending hours and days and more hours and more days so whiney ass spoiled brats like you can use their work for FREE. Be lucky you can even have ANDROID on the HD2! Another thing is there are plenty of what I consider perfect roms to choose from and many I have donated too.
Your apology is a joke you are still just acting like a *****...man up and get over yourself....

Exactly
we are at liberty to choose any rom available here irrespective of the development progress
it is fun to flash...Ah, I miss old time when I had to flash ROM 2-3 times a week

[Q] Latest, hottest ROM

I was on Legendary and then SimpleROM but I'm ready for a change as long as it is stable (like the ones I just mentioned). I tried reading the threads but they keep changing and some are very long.
Just wondering if someone knows since I have been on only this 2 ROMs for nearly a year.
tsp
Try out CM9.
It's pretty popping fresh.
Also, MIUI.
And in the future, we discourage best ROM threads.
Depends on how you use your phone. CM9 beta 0 is stable for a daily ROM. But If your a power user like on your phone nonstop then you will find yourself wanting a charger.
Also gotta ask the question to you want to move to the MTD side.... best bet is to read up on everything, then test out different roms till you find one that you like.
Sent from a CM9 powered Epic.
If you want a good stable Rom the marcusant rom version3 and the shake and bake theme are a nice combo. Also cm9 is also kinda nice but its still in beta
Threads are long because everyone is trying to butt hurt everyone else, and there are a lot of useless postings (such as this one). Just be sure whatever rom you use has the appropriate thanks, documentation and GPL reference or you will get blasted even as just a user.
Just try them all, go nuts, have fun! Just be sure to do whatever you can to brick your device so you can provide yourself with the logical reasoning to upgrade as quickly as possible.
Sent from my, is it safe to claim, personally semi-tweaked (but not shared) and still therefore kanged??? sammiEpic running some CM9b0 shiznizzle.....
Thanks to all that offered good advise and options.
And to clarify a few points:
1 - I did not ask what was the best ROM (I know better than that).
2 - I respect the advise of the users here and do not wish to try them all. It simply takes too much time when all the ROMs say to wipe everything clean including data. It's a very long process putting everything back the way it was. The last 2 updates I did did not update my programs so I had to install them all manually plus their data. And as some of you may know, restoring from backup is not always a good thing to do.
So... I really appreciate those that provided a few options for me to try. Will do soon. And btw I alway provide feedback to the thread on the ROMs that I try. Comes from being a technology administrator for many years.
Thanks again,
tsp

CM9! Seriously it's ****ing ICS and you will be surprised by how stable it is. There are bugs but as a daily driver I personally haven't run into any.

In order for someone to answer this you have to let people know how you use your phone. Are you hooled on the Touchwiz interface? Then it would require some work and getting similiar apps for CM7, CM9 or any other AOSP ROM. If you just want to update to the newer firmware and like how your phone is running now, then Sleeper or CleanGB. If you need more app space then you want to go to an MTD ROM like CleanGB MTD. At least read the OP's of any ROM you are considering to know all the features.

CM9 ICS
I've been using CM9 ICS since alpha 2 and I had to Odin my phone back to stock for some weird reason. It was so strange seeing the stock interface after using ICS. "I can't swipe notifications away? What is this vertical scrolling? Bloatware???" So yeah, beta 0 seems good enough for me for now, plus the battery life is way better than stock.
CM9 for sure. The only real issue was the phantom voicemail but there is a fix for it now (as of today).
Loving the CM9. It's like a new phone!
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
Tried CM9 and it was allot more stable than I expected. However it still needs work and is not as solid as stock. The lag overall started to annoy me along with other things like garbled text messaging, 4G issues, occasional reboots, and no visual voicemail, but the devs are doing a great job.
I am on Clean GB right now and will jump back to Thunderhawk when Random updates to El30.
Dont flame my opinion, please.

Hmm, No. I tried the RC0, but not the Beta. I think I am picky and just need everything to work as good as stock or better.

[Q] Best Sense Rom and Best ICS Rom

ive been trying roms here and there but cant find the perfect one, but i want opinions on the best Sense rom and best ICS rom since im torn between the two. i personally likes sense when i had a MT4G and i like how the layout of ICS is. so opinions every one?

There is no 'best ROM'. You'll have to try them out and find one for yourself. What works for one person won't necessarily work for another. Also, if you're going to respond to this directly come up with something better than 'oh I just want opinions' because all you have to do to find that is to look in the ROM thread at some of the posts and to look at the viewcount + post count of each ROM.
Try NexusHD2 CM9 HWA by TyTung
I don't think there is an ICS ROM with Sense. Sbryan 1124 has an alpha version of the 4.0.3 Sense 4 ROM from the One V but it's not fit for daily use. Try the NexusHD2 CM9 HWA by TyTung. It's vanilla ICS but it has very few issues

thats why i said "but i want opinions on the best Sense rom and best ICS" which means i want opinions on why they think its the best, not just what i think is best.. i much rather hear what other people have to say about the rom. if i wanted on just tuned for me i would just make my own.

Lol i know that much, but when i tried sense roms i had some lag. But with the ICS roms i have more reliability, im using Nexus HD2 i like it but its been buggy on me where it doesnt notify me when i get a text so its kinda of making me go "eehh" to that rom for now.

Either way you look at it, 'best ROM' threads are wrong and there isn't an answer so why bother asking?

Having made my point about there being no best ROM, I can say that NexusHD2 works absolutely perfectly for me. I've been notified about every text and it's without doubt the fastest ROM I've tried for playing games and web browsing in particular. I won't say it's the best ROM because this is EXACTLY what I mean about 'what works for one won't necessarily work for another' but it's certainly good. Sense ROMs are in general slow, and you're not experiencing anything out of the ordinary. If you don't like one of them, chances are you're not going to like any of them.

I know what you mean, im sorry for mis-wording the thread, but i just like seeing opinions on Rom's before i try them. But if i dont like one sense rom doesnt mean i wont like a different one, every developer has there on way how they make their rom, so what could be in this rom could be completely different in this one, but hey thats the fun of making a rom. Also NexusHD2 my current daily use rom just because of how clean and stable it is, i probably messed something up to get the notification problem, but it has high potential along with paranoidandroid. but the main reason i like opinions on this subject is because maybe there is a underdog rom some where that isnt really get as much attention as the bigger ones right now that could be actually decent and what im looking for, or maybe and aspiring developer is making something.

I agree with you on wanting opinions I like to see the same... just ignore the above person because there is no where in the rules that's states this is wrong.....he just has nothing better to do..... anyway back on topic..... I have tried paranoid ( which I'm on and I LOVE) the later update allows alot of spirit changes that allow me to have everything to my liking... I have a half table half phone thing going on and its great. I tried aokp but I felt it was too buggy maybe after its off hold it will be better. I myself have been wondering about gb roms my self i haven't tried any hope this helps

The main reason i liked paranoidandroid was becaus of how stable it was and the uniqueness of the tablet phone. It looked nice and felt nice but the keyboard was a giant turn off and when i installed a different keyboard it would bug out like crazy and i couldnt find a way to fix it. But overall it has really good and clean.

Paranoidandroid 1.1a didn't work so well for me. The phone randomly restarted one day and was stuck at the boot screen for hours. NexusHD2 gets the job done for me. I can live with the bugs

Thats why Nexus HD2 is my daily use rom, the only bugs in it are small ones that will be worked out. but other than that its overall great, but personally parnoidandroid does have my attention because i like the whole hybrid style, just some kinks need to be ironed out.

It definitely is IMO it has even more detail into what dpi's can be controlled and it has a new keyboard... the giant keyboard was a true turn off but I fixed that by adjusting the dpi for the keyboard and its great now I have hack zero reeboots or issues and battery life with juice defender and slightly oc is like 17 hrs moderate use for me

Whilst I'm not here to get into any sort of argument, I'd just like to point out that just because something isn't stated in the rules doesn't mean it's not wrong. Back on topic though, Paranoidandroid is really good and different from other ROMs, although as of when I tried it NexusHD2 was far more stable and I preferred it.
