How do you keep up with the updates after rooting your P8?

Afaik you loose the OTA updates after rooting (because of twrp) so how do you keep your system up to date? or is this somthing that you risk in order to root your phone
You can try to flash the stock recovery back and install the firmware manually or using the updater, or you find the firmware in flashible zip format and flash it through twrp. I personally rooted without keeping Twrp so i can still update.
Thanks for answering! And yeah the problemas is that I cant find the firmware updates anywhere, so how do I root without a custom recovery? Can you tell me some hints to find the solution or a link? Thanks again
EDIT: Oh, just found a way, and in case someone is also wondering heres how its done: You have to boot to twrp through adb, and then you can flash super su without flashing the custom recovery . This is the generic way to do it, have not tested im my P8 yet, will report later.

*No need to go through all the hassle there is an automated script which i used it myself if you are still on stock recovery, it installs Twrp to flash superSu and then restores the original recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/p8l...otloader-root-p8-p8lite-t3164956#post62851688
*If you are on Twrp, you can download "Huawei update extractor" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454 use it to extract your firmware (update.app) and take from it the 'recovery.img'. Then go to platform-tools where you open the CMD from, place the recovery.img in it you can rename it to "stockrecovery.img"
then "shift+right click" open the command line.
type: adb reboot bootloader
type: adb devices ----->to see your device
type: fastboot flash recovery 'type hear the name of recovery'
example: flastboot flash recovery stockrecovery.img
type: fastboot reboot ----->reboot device
some tutorial i found on youtube:

By the way the method for Twrp i haven't tested but that's the theory, so please do it on your own risk and do the required research. Goodluck:good:
Edit: Another method in theory if you have Twrp could be to use 'flashify' app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify&hl=en to flash the stock 'recovery.img' which you extracted from the stock firmware. No need to use adb.

I still haven't changed the bootloader so it will be easier, I was waiting for the email from huawei but never received, but with the link you provided I was able to get the code instantly (since my model GRA-UL10 isn't on the list) its late here so will try it tomorrow. But I have a final question, will be possible to flash SuperSU without flashing twrp? There is a command that lets you boot twrp without flashing I just don't want to reflash my bootloader unnecessarily, thanks in advance. After this I will probably post a guide since it is not easy to find everything in one place.

In order to root your device you need a custom recovery which gives you the ability to push files which is not possible with the stock recovery that's how i understand it. The script in the link i gave u automates the steps you have to do manually, if you are going to root the device using the command line you will need a su.zip to flash using twrp, and a twrp recovery image through which you will access the file system, and finally knowing the command lines to do it all which is all in all is a hassle. So booting into or flashing twrp isn't really a big deal (at least for me) as long as you have the stock recovery by the end of it all.

Is this is TWRP for Marshmallow? Because the recovery files.you have uploaded are dated 25th September 2015?
@mfbcool yes...this is for Marshmallow... But dont swipe allow modifications!!
Member gettin error after swiping...just do read only...
I root my device by this method yesterday
but today root not work in titanum backup
I check it by root checker and everything is ok
Even though this method works, I would not recommend moving SuperSU to system partition. I didn't moved it and still SU permissions are working fine. I say so because Chainfire in his new SuperSU adopted a 'Systemless Root' method that roots without modifying the system partition so that apps like Android Pay work properly. He achieved this by patching the Boot image and so root is installed in boot image and is enabled at every boot (that's why you may experience some boot loops after rooting). This makes taking OTA updates and unrooting the device easier as you can unroot by flashing the Stock Boot.img instead of flashing the whole system partition.
I believe moving SuperSU to system partition destroys the main purpose and idea Chainfire had while making SuperSU compatible with Marshmallow. We all know EMUI won't update on Rooted devices. So it would be a pain to reflash whole Stock System Partition before taking OTA.
Hi thanks, I'm root my mobile I'm in android 6.0 now how to get back to kikkat a stock rom from twrp
@G E N E R A L open supersu app and tick the mount name separation and restart phone... Titanium, kingroot all will recognize root

I have successfully built TWRP 3.0.0-0 for our device which fixes the weird swipe to allow modifications bug and is fully compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-twrp-3-0-0-0-huawei-honor-4c-t3349495
Also, to re-flash Stock ROM, you don't need to flash Stock Recovery. Huawei phones have 2 inbuilt recoveries. The second recovery (which is the Stock) can be accessed by 3 buttons method (Power + Volume Up + Volume Down).
@mfbcool i saw that thread early... Great work man... I know huawei have 2 inbuilt recoveries but 2nd one is erecovery and thats of no use at all... I tried it too many times!! If twrp 3.0 can flash update.app files,,, it gonna rocks , wish u best of luck man!! You did it

Possible to flash twrp in edl mode?

I'm on build b25 right now, bootloader is unlocked looking for a way to flash twrp recovery. I have heard its possible but there are two issues I am having, maybe someone can help me work through it or point out the obvious that i have no idea whats in front of me. so:
A. I for the life of me cannot seem to find a miflash that works for me, no matter what version i try to use it either doesnt find the device or says there is some error with the file no matter what i pick including the b19 edl full flash
B. I tried using the various axon7tools utilities to flash twrp to the recovery partition in edl mode and they all failed.
Am I missing something or its just something that cant be done right now?
tried using this guide here https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/axon7tool-flash-backup-boot-recovery-t3514254 even though its a little old but i used the latest twrp from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/recovery-official-twrp-zte-axon-7-t3515715 and this also failed. it did however allow me to make a backup of the stock recovery?
Nevermind! I somehow did it! ha ha using that guide. you gotta follow the guide to a T but you do not have to mess with the boot.img only mess with the recovery. rename the latest recovery from my previous post to "recovery.bin" place it in the same folder as the axon7tool.exe and when running the command do not put "axon7tools -w recovery recovery.bin" only put "axon7tools -w recovery" it took quite a few times but twrp seems to be installed correctly!
better twrp https://dl.twrp.me/ailsa_ii/twrp-3.1.0-0-ailsa_ii.img.html

Is it possible to root OOS 10.0.1?

lately I did a clean install of OOS 10.0.1 on my International 6t. Installed OOS and magisk from TWRP.
After booting there was a Magisk Manager in applications claiming that Magisk itself was not installed. I tried to install Magisk from Manager, but failed. Then I reboot the phone into the recovery and TWRP was gone!! There was only a stock recovery. Well, I tried to run TWRP from computer with 'fastboot boot .\twrp-3.3.1-28-fajita-Q-mauronofrio.img'. Error - "remote: unknown command".
I searched forum and found a thread fastboot boot twrp.img FAILED (remote: unknown command). @dbarrett480 wrote: 'Twrp can't flash anything to system in A10 right now, so unless that is fixed there is no point at this moment anyway. A10 uses a virtualized system partition which doesn't allow R/W access to system....'. Does it mean that rooting is not possible with stock OOS and only possible solution is to use custom ROM?
It is. Look for the patched boot.img and flash that through fastboot. Make sure to install magisk manager first.

The information you found is outdated. I'm surprised you didn't properly read through the official TWRP thread here, more specifically this post clarifies the error in your use of fastboot (or better said: the use of fastboot according to the mistakes made by OnePlus). Which is also mentioned several times in the page you linked to.
As a senior member, please don't create new threads inquiring information you could easily find. Even though the methods to obtain it have been challenging for a short while, being able to achieve root has never been interrupted for this device. Even without being able to modify system files. Systemless rules!

So, should do following:
Install Magisk Manager
Flash patched boot.img through fastboot
Install TWRP
Install Magisk
Is it correct?
The patched boot.img already contains magisk.
But you don't need twrp to be rooted, unless you really want to use it for something else... But i don't use it anymore. So I'm fully stock, except that I'm unlocked and rooted.
So it should be:
1. Install magisk manager.
2. Flash boot.img
3. Enjoy. But check magisk manager if it was successful.

That's only if you need TWRP.
But for what I've been reading, you don't need TWRP and then i suggest to not install it.
Just flash everything stock and keep it that way. Only thing to flash is the patched boot.img with root in it.
You can always update Android from the settings and patch/install boot with magisk manager on inactive slot. This will keep your device rooted without the need of TWRP.
Here what I found:

Today I installed the new update, 10.0.1 for OP 6T and then I discovered that there is no magisk patched boot.img yet. I extracted it with payload dumper, patched with the installed magisk and flashed successfully.
I uploaded it to my drive for others. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1kb...VgWNaWgLN6j17b
The commands for flashing are:
fastboot flash boot_a magisk_patched.img
fastboot flash boot_b magisk_patched.img

I still don't get why people don't use the good old way:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img (latest version)
If you just need root use twrp to flash Magisk zip
If you need twrp flash twrp installer also
Reboot
All the mess before was because we didn't have a working TWRP! Now that we have it don't need to use patched boot img made by others.

Unable To Root??

I sent my phone in for repairs and so i had unrooted and relocked the bootloader, then factory reset. I just got my phone back today, its on build 10.5.13IN11AA.
I enabled USB Debugging and the option to unlock the bootloader, so then i went and unlocked the bootloader, but i can NOT get TWRP to boot so that I can install Magisk. I'm guessing i need the patched boot.img but i cant find that anywhere either.
Does anyone have a patched boot.img for the global variant on 10.5.13 they can link? Or am i doing this wrong?
I got this figured out. I downloaded Magisk Manager and installed it on my phone, then downloaded the entire 10.5.13 update from a link a found here and extracted the boot.img file. I used ADB to push it to my downloads folder on the phone and used Magisk to patch it. Then I copied it back to my PC and used fastboot to install it, done!
