Android Pie Bugs - Nokia 6.1 Plus (X6) Questions & Answers

As promised by Nokia, all the Nokia 6.1 Plus users got the Android Pie Update at the end of October. I feel like the update was rushed and even though they had the Beta Labs for the Android Pie, it still consists of many bugs. Not sure if there are any other bugs other than the ones I'm listing but here are the major ones:
Battery drainage is comparatively more
The fast charging is not working. It takes 3 full hours for full charge. Also it no longer charges upto 50% in 30 minutes.
There are issues with the WiFi where it won't connect to any network until you restart the device.
Bluetooth switches on its own, randomly.
Fingerprint recognition is significantly slower.
The launcher (Quickstep) freezes or even crashes if you uninstall an app from the home screen. Also it freezes occasionally when you use the navigation to switch between apps.
Please list down other bugs that you've had, if any, down below. Also if anyone knows when is Nokia most likely to push an update for fixing these bugs, do let me know since the November security update already came without any fixes.
UPDATE:
Nokia pushed a new update last night. I'm hoping it contains fixes to the numerous bugs.

Frame rate drop on WhatsApp video calls . Don't see frame rate dropping on duo , Skype or any other app . Now I don't know who should be fixing this nokia / Google or whatsapp.

Fingerprints is not working in third party apps like AppLock.Casting is also not working. When I playing games touch is not working properly. So,these are the bugs after updating with pie.
Drainage of battery is also very fast..

Launcher3 crash when you don't have it as a default launcher and try to tap on recent apps. Scrolling left and right works, but as soon as you choose an app or try to click on Clear All, it crashes and takes you back to home screen.

For the battery drainage, with Adaptive Battery turned on, mine is almost equal to that on Oreo.
It does tell that it's fast charging, though it takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes charge fully, compared to 1 hour 30 minutes on Oreo.
Wi-Fi works fine for me, no issues.
I have my Bluetooth always turned on for my band, and it works just fine.
For Fingerprint Recognition, yeah, it feels slow. My Mi A1 is much faster at that.
I had some other issues with the device's lock screen acting super weird. I've set up Google's Face Unlock, and the built-in fingerprint, with a pattern. Sometimes it doesn't actually lock with power button press, and the lock sound comes much later. At that time, it would not unlock either with face or fingerprint, and even the pattern won't work. It occurs rarely, though.

I'm having some issues during calls, I don't know if it's hardware or software, but my mic doesn't work on calls sometimes. I have read on other forums that this is happening for many users of this phone.

Lock the phone and scan the fingerprint, repeat this continuously for 3-4 times. The phone gets hanged.
Also, sometimes, the screen starts flashing randomly and erroneously. Haven't been able to find out the exact reason for this.

Hi
Bro same are problems with my device.
But not with my friend's device
I want to ask whether it is the inbuilt problem of WiFi or software bugs?
I was so annoyed that I had planned to sell this phone .

Better request service centre to revert back to Oreo.....i visit there yesterday & successfully revert back to Oreo. Now my 6.1 plus is working flowless.

Bluetooth HD audio AAC doesn't seem to work, judging by the developer options.
Although admittedly, I've never used this on oreo and I know my headphones supports AAC because it worked with another device before.

Is it possible to revert back to Oreo?

When I'm on a call, and if a notification is received, the notification sound is of the battery charging sound. Very weird

You can using ost with bl unlocked

pie bugs
1. watsapp video call lags
2. battery draining too fast
3. phone slow down the performance when battery below 10%
4. phone lags usually
5.charging slowly
6. hiding notch not covering full notch
7. wifi issue

Pie Bugs for me:
--WIFI connecting but no internet. Restarting the device everytime is not a good solution. To make sure that WiFi works fine thereafter I do not toggle the WiFi OFF ever.
--"Ok Google" voice activation not working. Neither able to retrain my voice.
--Battery drain is atleast 10% higher over a period of 8 hours in idle mode.
--Fingerprint unlock has become extremely slow.
--Random freeze while trying to unlock using fingerprint scanner. The screen refuses to turn on even when power button is pressed. This happens for almost 5 to 10 minutes till finally the screen turns on.

Take backup on laptop/desktop, your phone will be just like box pack.

Phone switches to vibra only move after reboot

Did not use the phone on oreo as as soon as i set it up it upgraded to pie. I am not facing any of the issues mentioned in this thread so far.

I ordered one phone for my wife and now I start regretting reading about all these problems after Pie update (the phone is not here yet). I was planning to stop updating it from Oreo, any way to do it or once it gets set and WIFI on it will start updating itself ? Interesting that in your case it works, do you think that they changed OTA so new updates gets a newer fixed version ?

What are your impressions of 5.1?

It took my a while, but thanks to Wugfresh I was finally able to instal 5.1 on my N6. Curious to know what the general consensus is. I've only had it up and running for 6 hours, but has anyone noticed improvement in battery life or memory management?
Thanks.
When I get it.....
For now still waiting.
Think I will like the change in notifications where I can select WiFi hotspot with going into settings.
The battery life has always been great on 5.01
Read all 4 cores are active but I doubt I will notice.

Franco's kernel has given my battery some extra life, I hope this update does the same.
I have yet to get the two bugs that were really getting on my nerves previously in 5.0 and 5.0.1
1- Random restarts. They could happen at any time, but it seemed like they would happen when I was trying to text. I'd try to keep closing my text messenger application (happened with both Google Messenger and Hangouts), but it didn't always help. I'd send a text message, put my phone down and then a few seconds later, notice the Google logo because it was restarting.
2- Sometimes when the screen powers up, all I see on my lock screen is a blank black background, the on-screen back button and the usual clock and what not at the top of the phone. Otherwise, the screen itself is black and I'm basically locked out of my phone until I restarted it. If I was lucky and I was using my Bluetooth headset, if I received a phone call, that would sometimes get the phone to snap out of it and allow me to answer the phone call and then when the call was done I'd get the normal lock screen again.
So far so good with 5.1 *knocks on wood*
I just flash it this morning and I feel like im still on 5.0.1. I only use 1 wifi connection and 1 bluetooth connection, so a drop down menu doesn't really effect my daily usage since I don't switch them. Whatever they did behind the hood to improve performance/battery will be nice, but haven't had it installed long enough yet to notice anything different really.
I would also like to know how the 4 cores being force enabled effects the experience before I make the jump.
5.1 is what Lollipop should have been from launch. It's equivalent to Windows 7 replacing Vista. It's that much better.
Sideloaded with adb on my stock att N6. Seems real quick so far. Don't notice any additional drain on battery.
So far it seems about the same as before to me. However, I am on Sprint and the new radio that prevents duplicate texts is awesome so that part of it makes it seem like a new device.
I play Hearthstone, Kingdom Rush and Clash of Clans on My nexus 6 and they all run fine so far.
I did un-encrypt like before. I cannot comment on battery life yet since it hasn't even been 24 hours for me since I updated.
So far so good. Battery life has certainly improved, it was pretty abysmal for me before. I only experienced one bug that I know of on 5.0.1 where occasionally my status bar and nav bar would disappear and the phone was in a partially locked state. Trying to slide down the notification drawer would show the lockscreen. Hopefully that's fixed.
is double tap to wake.. enable in 5.1??
I'm not on a N6 yet, but my GNex is on 5.1, and to compare (because I've only got 1Gb of RAM here, it's a good test because the margins are so small compared to having 3Gb) the 5.1 update is by far the most stable yet for my device. 5.0 was baaad, but consider how many commits corrected memory leaks and you can tell this is the one. I'm looking forward to getting my N6 with 5.1 on it.
Big dialer bug in 5.1. Anyone else getting it?
My screen immediately locks and turns off in the dialer when initiating or answering phone calls. I have no access to onscreen controls until the call is terminated. I cannot hangup, select speakerphone, go to my home screen, etc., until the call ends and Android gives me my screen back.
I'm stock rooted on a 64gb N6 on Verizon. In order to maintain my data and settings I used fastboot to individually flash the new bootloader, radio, system, and boot images.
The same thing happened to an acquaintance of mine who is not rooted and did a fresh install.
Bug reported to Google, ID 160006, if you're interested.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
I am noticing a huge performance improvement from 5.0.1 already. Battery life is also better. I am not having the dialer issue like some, but have seen 3 instances of people saying the same thing.
Was on stock, now on Vanillipop 1.6 with Franco Kernel r20.
Much smoother and the battery seems improved. Still testing out.

Do you use a screen protector that covers the sensor? I know there is a thread somewhere around here with a lot of people that have that issue and it's because of their screen protector in 5.1 for some reason.

Greatly, its butter all the time.
I haven't noticed a whole lot yet, some games seem to be playing a lot better, the graphical glitch I was seeing on xcom seems to have disappeared so its actually playable now
I've been experiencing an increase in fluidness (is that a word) throughout the UI as a whole, the phone moves from task to task without any stutter and the animations seem to have a bit more polish to them. Checking on the battery now, but I was never a power user to begin with. Overall it may not look like much but you can tell there are some big time enhancements coming from 5.0.1

Android 7 update made my phone very slow. I am looking on the return policy now

I updated my ZTE Axon 7 to Android 7 and I started hating the mobile.
Issues:
1. Finger print recognition is not perfect.
2. whatsapp is very slow - especially - taking and photo and sending it.
3. phone is deadslow most of the time. i.e. I have to click on some apps and wait for sometime, some cases it closes automatically.
Is there a way to go back to Android 6 or What is the return policy. I bought the phone 1.5 months back in Amazon.
I am really frustrated with this thing and I need to get rid of it.
I am with you on this...same happened to me also.
Phone is too slow, fingerprint is not identifying the print accurately and its too slow, whtasapp is a disaster.
Apps opens too slow.
Same issues here...
I read in the ZTE Forum that a couple people have gone back to MM with the file from the ZTE support website but I am not sure if I want to do that ... or wait a couple days so ZTE will HOPEFULLY come up with a hotfix...
There are a lot of other issues also like verizon SIM is not recognized at all, fingerprint issue, battery drain, slow animations, performance over all....
You may need to move to LineageOS
what aboutLineageOS?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/unofficial-lineageos-14-1-zte-axon-7-t3545679
+1 all issues mentioned by original poster, I don't know if ZTE actually QC this release or not ? The whole performance is abysmal after update.
Try wiping data/factory reset

You're not allowed to return it
So I've done full factory resets twice, cleared cache, etc. My phone is still about half of what it was on 6.0. Fingerprint reader is what is killing it for me.
+1 I feel this phone is so slow. Is it under clocked? I came from a Zenfone 2 running an Intel x86 and it never lagged. This phone seems so laggy with scrolling, apps etc. Feel a bit disappointed. Is it the Nougat update? Thanks.

My phone has definately lagged a bit sometimes but its been working fine otherwise after the Nougat update. I did a factory wipe and my phone isnt rooted.
Just a thought, don't know for sure, but you should head over to this thread see if this helps you any

I've done the same thing. Factory reset 6 times and I've also cleared cache numerous times. I've tried a few things because I also had random restarts that would happen from once every 15 minutes to once every few hours and sometimes not turn back on or get stuck in deep sleep. So far as of now I've tried a few tweaks that seems to have sped up nougat substantially. The auto powers are mode seems to be bugged off the bat with nougat. I've been running in performance mode and have gotten better battery life than in auto mode. Also speed is increased and my restart issue has disappeared thus far. If I were you I'd just tweak the settings and give it a few days. After talking with zte support, they are under helpful and both return options for replacement are obscene at best.

Yeah, I've done all of those. Nothing seems to help. Facebook app still unusable, fingerprint reader only works about 1 out of 5 times, even after setting up multiple fingers, etc.... I am not a happy person. My phone is completely stock, too. I was laying off doing anything custom to it because of 7.0. Apparently that was a mistake.
Yeh after looking online it seems that almost every phone that got updated to nougat had a plethora of issues until hot fixes were issued. Even the nexus 5x had issues. Seems zte only made sure it kinda worked and then released it because people kept batching about the delay of initial rollout.

Removing the downloaded but not installed Nougat update

Hi, first post. I asked the question on another site some months back about deleting or stopping the install notification about the downloaded, although not installed Nougat update, no answers were forthcoming. My phone on 6.0.1 works great and I have no issues that warrant an upgrade. I have hardly any apps installed on it and really only use it for light internet, photos, the phone and GPS. I don’t really want to update it to Nougat due to some of the horror stories I have read. I am not (yet) very Android proficient.
Can I just leave the downloaded Nougat updated installed, but stop the daily notification to install it?
Or
Can I easily delete the downloaded but not installed Nougat update?
In this case I subscribe to the notion, if it isn’t broke don’t touch it. Maybe I am being too overly cautious.
Current details
Hardware: XT1642.
Version: 6.0.1
Build: MPJ24.139.23.4
Security Update: 1 May 2016
Any help steering me in the right direction is appreciated.
Cheers,
@CC2005
If you remove downloaded files, still it will not stop, then you will get notification for new update available and to download it.
Better if you update to latest version,
otherwise you need to restrict notification for moto updater app or data for it. (I don't remember correctly if those feature existed on MM, as the way it is present in N)
It looks as if I will have to just go ahead and install the OTA Nougat 7.0 update that has downloaded; as there doesn't seem to be a simple way of stopping the notification to install it. As mentioned, I didn't want to install Nougat as it works perfectly now on 6.01, maybe I am just worrying about nothing, obviously Nougat 7.0 doesn't stuff up all devices.
It is still in warranty so if an OTA update causes problems I may be able to return it?
Cheers

If there is any problems and if it's under warranty, you can surely take it to the service center.
As far as I know, if you get a replacement device, it will be updated to the latest version out of the box. So there is no way going back to MM.
If you still want to use MM, your only hope is custom ROMs.
You can't downgrade the official updates.
Nougat is not that bad. Most of us are waiting for Oreo and I am wondering how are you still on MM
Have a nice Day :good:

I have disabled most of the Motorola notifications "Motorola Update Services", "Motorola Notification" and one or two others. This sometimes prevents the "Install System Update" notification as long as I do not power it off, I put it to sleep by putting if face down. Although most of the time I have to delay the install manually by rescheduling the install time-pressing later etc when the message pops up.
I am a light user, and can get up to 8 days (rarely) usage out of a single charge, I have disabled a lot of Google & other Apps that I don't want to use, and turned off many Google Play Services. Lots of photos, calls and WiFi use I get 2-3 days use, so I am trying to keep the current OS. Also the works reasonably well in very hot weather taking photos and using the GPS-off line maps, it does at times get hot and can suffer camera issues and more so, GPS stuttering and lag above 35C-40+C but shade it from the sun and minimise use and it will work ok.
Cheers & have a great day too.
Ok, I've been operating with Nougat 7.0 for two months now. There are pros and cons and some of the cons I will adapt to as they are only preferences, minor setting and appearance.
My main concerns about the OS update were battery life and heating. Normal use, the battery drains a little quicker without WIFI or Sim data on, not enough to cause concern. But with WIFI and or sim data on, it definitely uses more battery power than before, almost at an average of 10%-15% more-not a scientific analysis. I am not a big data users so again not big concern. Although when using data, downloading, surfing etc, the battery rate depletes at a much quicker rate than before, I would estimate 30%-40% faster. I also notice the battery depletes much quicker when using the camera and the associated heat when using the camera feels (going by sense not measuring it) somewhat higher. The camera and video mode are the one that bother me and I forgot to mention, using offline maps, gps enabled (no WIFI or Sim data activated) the battery use is again higher than before.
So, I would have been better off on MM, yes, but it is what it is and I can work around the battery issue when I know my usage of those features will be heavy. A cheap pocket portable USB charger may need to be purchased.
I haven’t done a factory reset and I have only cleared the cache via settings app. Maybe the next step before a portable pocket USB charger is purchased.
Cheers

When is a stable build for this phone going to be launched?

As of update 15.2016.1805.311, we still have a majority of bugs not fixed. I want to ask if anyone knows when is a STABLE version of the OS is going to be released? Android P maybe? Or at least ASUS should fix the trivial issues that very apparently exist on this phone? I will list some of these issues:
1. Multi touch issue while playing games like PUBG or Dead Trigger (I know this issue is related to all phones running oreo but maybe asus can do something with their next build?)
2. Lock screen at times does not automatically go off after 10 seconds and waits for the whole duration (5 minutes in my case) as set in settings>display>advanced sleep. Lock screen should not use this setting as this setting is for homescreen, by default lockscreen should go off after 10 seconds of inactivity (Looks like some background apps are keeping it awake)(has reduced but still exists as of .311)
3. Snapdragon audio + equalizer vanished completely from play music and other third party music apps after .309 update (each update seems to do more harm than good)PLEASE BRING IT BACK !!!
4. Support for apps like google camera (ASUS, you have promised stock android experience and this goes against that). This will bring a huge improvement in front and back camera performance. Or else, ASUS can develop a better camera app
Its already stable i am getting 12h sot easily for 2 days usage since 309 update.
1 multitoch is oreo bug and will be fixed in June patch
2 lock screen working fine for me
3 you can install manually equaliser
4 camera will not be activated in future updates
The firmware is pretty stable to me. It's more like general android usage issue and this happens to most other android phones.
1) Multitouch is oreo bug but I do feel that phone companies should fix the problem themselves since they are customizing their own rom.
2) Lock screen no issue for me
3) Equaliser I don't use. Not a bug nor something that causes "stability" issue.
4) Camera is working (though not the best quality) and not having it support google camera is not a "stability" issue. They have the rights to not enable cameraapi.

Do you have any idea when is the June patch or the next update is going to be released?
If I may add, ZenMotion gesture doesn't work on me after the phone restart. Needs to turn off and on again in setting to fix it. Normally this should work once enabled even after phone restart.
Other bug is that the screen temperature changer keep revert back to default for unknown reason after several restart (even an unstable custom ROM is better on handling these)
I'm on 311 build too. Still waiting for latest security patch...

Performance / Issues on OP6T 9.0.6

Has anyone experienced any issues on the 9.0.6 update?
I've noticed slowness on the accuracy of face unlock and fingerprint compared to 9.0.5
I've also noticed some lag in speed and apps just randomly closing, not crashing, just closing.
Anyone else experienced these or other issues? Post and these will be shared with OnePlus for review.
Nova Launcher crashes randomly like 1-3 times a day.
Higher idle drain in comparison to 9.0.5.
Rest everything seems normal to me on 9.0.6.
I have had some apps just close. Also get freezing with Nova launcher at times. I cleaned the cache for all apps in TB and that seems to have fixed the problem for now.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6013 using Tapatalk
Absolutely no problems here.
No Issues with Nova and battery runtime
No issues with performance or anything compared to 9.0.5
SOT for me is lower and idle drain is definitely worse for me and a number of others, with regards to performance it's around the same
Has been behaving like 9.0.5 here.
Troubles with Bluetooth headset / car. I think it's when i have switched from one to another (Car - Headset and vise versa), then you are able ho hear the calling part, but the opposite part are not able to hear you. If you reboot the phone, the bluetooth will work again until next time you change bluetooth device.
The use of Dual-Sim on Android Auto are still impossible. You can't even, if you make a call from Android Auto, make the choice on the phone, like you were able to in previous versions (OnePlus 2)
Absolutely no issues here.
Don't know if it's 9.0.6 related, but fingerprint reader unlock appears to be a bit quicker from the actual lock screen rather than the ambient display... Also oddly at times my ambient display will be missing the fingerprint icon (which actually I kind of like, lol) ... no also nothing is covering proximity sensor, I just place my finger where the icon should be and it lights up green still and unlocks like normal. Another issue related to unlocking seems that going from ambient to home screen [via fingerprint] is glitchy while going from lock screen to home screen is much smoother [via fingerprint]... Other problems I've noticed are relative to the force closes you guys have mentioned and I can't recall having similar issues 9.0.5...I was even wondering about a the possibility of downgrading just for the sake of running comparisons.
-I get "ghost notifications" sometimes. Mostly from Download Manager, something I downloaded days ago. Can still show up from time to time on Ambient Display but it's always gone when I turn on the screen again. Yesterday it was the same from Play Store though.
-I get too much stuttering in animations for my liking. Phone needs optimization. I'm not even a heavy user. Not close to it. Still it stutters from time to time and sometimes heavily like 10-20fps.
-Tap to wake is a little bit unreliable at times and wont work the first try.
