Switching to dark theme - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

I just just switched to dark theme and again This is my first oneplus so I'm still learning. my question is does the stock dialer not change to a dark mode when you switch to dark theme? It kinda bugs me that everything else is dark theme ie launcher, messages, system yet my dialer is still super bright. Is this the way it's supposed to be?

Mine dialer is dark. Did you try a reboot?

I did, then I ended up clearing cache and data. No luck! Tried reverting to light theme and colorful theme and retried dark theme again. I did reboot in between switching themes and my dialer is still the same

It bothered me enough to actually factory reset the phone ...I didn't have anything of importance since I just got it this phone. First thing I did after setting it up was go directly to using the dark theme. Works now :good:

[Q] System-wide inversion?

every time I google this, the iOS way stands out. a friend has an iphone and the system color inversion is awesome for night use. however, it seems that google, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to go holo light (which, imo, is awful) and leave no good way to use the system in a dark room/at night.
is there a way to implement this? maybe through xposed? or a theme changer theme (but it'd have to affect all apps, user and system).
I'm sitting in bed in a dark room at night and I have no problems looking at my phone. If I wanted to inverted web pages that exists, otherwise why would I want to view blue people?

With xposedframework xthemeengine or theme choser you can apply lots of dark themes. Then, you can use system interface during day and dark theme at night

but those themes have to be coded for every app... or for example, take chrome: i want websites like google and xda (with their white backgrounds) inverted. yes, i can use tapatalk and theme google search, but i just want to tap a button and invert EVERYTHING

Which Substratum theme are you using?

I have tried a lot of themes. I want to know dark themes that get applied without errors.
Especially with dark themes, the notifications are not visible properly. Do you guys know themes that are working without problems?
Is your OP5 running OOS Oreo or Nougat? On OOS Nougat I use Substratum Swift Black theme and it doesn't theme the notifications at all (White background/black text). This is because the color controls for notifications are in a different OOS framework. Now if your running OOS Oreo then Substratum support has better integration. I've already read that non-rooted OOS Oreo with Substratum and the add on app ($99 cent) works but there was no comment on themed notifications.
If you go into the "OnePlus 5 Themes, Apps, and Mods" you can find further add on mods that can black theme the notifications but they are not specifically Substratum associated. Most don't work well with the Swift Black theme either as stated in their first post so read carefully.
I have tried 'Swift Black' and it works like it should. The best in my opinion. It also these my notifications. Here are the SS. https://imgur.com/a/LS6Ez
Swift Dark here on stock Oreo rooted with Magisk. Works great
PitchBlack with dark translucent notifications on xXx Oreo 9.1a ROM.
Pitchblack origins is the best dark theme you can get. Work's with nougat oms and oos Oreo. Swiftblack is not so great.
Can you theme Flipboard To black theme
Or dark?
Since I'm on the OOS, I am using the Ozone theme
I've been using nineteen for the last couple months, it offers black and translucent options and looks really nice. The themed notifications work great in both translucent and black, and most system apps are skinned as well. I am running DirtyUnicorns 12.1 (Oreo 8.1) though, so I'm not sure how well this will work with OOS...
Using nineteen here also, also use VaLeRie sometimes too (It's fully compatible with OOS), both themes offer transparent backgrounds which look great with a good wallpaper, even a live wallpaper.
S.i.X theme on Carbon Rom ?
Am using Black Swift Substratum theme

Anyone get DARK mode to actually work?

I have my phone set to dark mode but nothing happens on the new pie update as it still stays light. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much

I have also tried this and it doesn't work. Anyone have ideas why?
I found the fix! Flip the theme to dark theme in the settings and then install this all black wallpaper below. That will turn everything to the dark theme. Once everything is dark you can switch the wallpaper to any other wallpaper and it should stay in the dark theme. Hope this helps!
I'm seeing the same thing on Pie...
@stu5797 why did you make the image 2560x1440? Because the phone resolution I thought for images is 1312x2560?
Actually all u need to do is switch to any of the essential wallpapers that are dark and the dark theme will kick in

Well don't you think we tried that already?
Nope, only changes the App Drawer dark for me, and I assumed all the UI was going to be dark too?

Only thing for me is I have to keep the wall paper , can't change to live one has to be a device wallpaper
Bro how did you get it to work? I have 998 version and the theme but it won't work.
@gorm ahh ok, my bad, notification panel on mine dark too...
You would think the 'Settings' UI would also be Dark? Hmm
Guys - To take a step back to the basics on these conversations, where are you guys seeing the "Dark" theme option, any way? Unless you guys are talking about Rooted or Unrooted Substratum themes with Andromeda (Unrooted)? As far as I can tell, there is no dark option in the stock firmware, is there? Other than inverted colors?
As for my experience, installing a dark wallpaper on the final Pie release, I am in fact able to successfully get the dark notification tiles, NOT the notifications themselves, which are still white.
Sorry for the request for obvious clarity, thanks!
No need to select a dark wallpaper in order to get dark quick settings toggles..that's the only thing goes dark, alongside with the slider of the audio level and the menu when pressing the power button...

Update(s) breaking themes; Need a new theme

I have loved the Material Black theme for awhile now. Unfortunately Samsung has broken it piece by piece.
First was the email update. Once updated it went back to being white. I tried reapplying the theme but it does not work. Then I tried other themes and still cannot get it to work.
Then came the PIE update, blah. Night mode seems to be the only thing I can use to make it somewhat close to what it used to be with the Material Black theme.
Can anyone recommend a theme from the store that will do what Material Black used to do?

The theme creator just needs the update the theme for the new changes. I'm using Oreo Black for now.
Try this one, updated to Pie -

Dark mode on Gmail OnePlus pro 5g

Has anyone successfully gotten dark mode working on Gmail on the T-Mobile one plus pro 5g?
Oh man I feel your pain on this one. It's the only app that isn't dark for me, and it's extremely annoying. The one option you have right now is system -> developer options -> Override force-dark which makes everything dark, even gmail, but also looks a little weird in my opinion.
I had dark mode with the Galaxy S10 and the OnePlus 7T but lost it when I did the JOD upgrade to this. I'd us the force override dark mode but it makes the text on Facebook white on white and it's impossible to see.
Use swift installer to theme your apps. Works well on my 7t
Dark mode was not working for me either. However, I just rooted and started restoring my apps and some data...now it works perfectly fine. And this is the "normal" dark mode for Gmail. I did not restore the Gmail app data either. I don't know. Maybe clear the data and load it back up??
I cleared cache and data. Restarted app. Brought it back up and running again. Rebooted.
Dark mode now.
Hope this helps.
it just started working, Dark mode is now enabled for gmail.
no root, no clear cache, no clear data. nothing. just working

Yeah, something must have been turned on in the background. My horizon light also works now for everything. Not just the built-in messages app, like others have claimed.
