Which Substratum theme are you using? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

I have tried a lot of themes. I want to know dark themes that get applied without errors.
Especially with dark themes, the notifications are not visible properly. Do you guys know themes that are working without problems?

Is your OP5 running OOS Oreo or Nougat? On OOS Nougat I use Substratum Swift Black theme and it doesn't theme the notifications at all (White background/black text). This is because the color controls for notifications are in a different OOS framework. Now if your running OOS Oreo then Substratum support has better integration. I've already read that non-rooted OOS Oreo with Substratum and the add on app ($99 cent) works but there was no comment on themed notifications.
If you go into the "OnePlus 5 Themes, Apps, and Mods" you can find further add on mods that can black theme the notifications but they are not specifically Substratum associated. Most don't work well with the Swift Black theme either as stated in their first post so read carefully.

I have tried 'Swift Black' and it works like it should. The best in my opinion. It also these my notifications. Here are the SS. https://imgur.com/a/LS6Ez

Swift Dark here on stock Oreo rooted with Magisk. Works great

PitchBlack with dark translucent notifications on xXx Oreo 9.1a ROM.

Pitchblack origins is the best dark theme you can get. Work's with nougat oms and oos Oreo. Swiftblack is not so great.

Can you theme Flipboard To black theme
Or dark?

Since I'm on the OOS, I am using the Ozone theme

I've been using nineteen for the last couple months, it offers black and translucent options and looks really nice. The themed notifications work great in both translucent and black, and most system apps are skinned as well. I am running DirtyUnicorns 12.1 (Oreo 8.1) though, so I'm not sure how well this will work with OOS...

Using nineteen here also, also use VaLeRie sometimes too (It's fully compatible with OOS), both themes offer transparent backgrounds which look great with a good wallpaper, even a live wallpaper.

S.i.X theme on Carbon Rom ?

Any substratum dark theme that works properly?

I've tried ModernUI for substratum (it's free) and it's great except the notifications are missing text because the background is black and some of the text is black.
Is there any theme that makes everything (settings, notifications, etc) dark but preserves the text properly? Don't want to buy, refund, repeat for all the themes on the play store. May get banned? lol.

Substratum doesn't work on stock so I barely think op means stock rom.
Nuclear rom has full support for it though.
The stock rom has issues with substratum, but any third party rom that uses OMS will work with substratum. I use Dark DNA theme.
Also look out for Compound. It's paid but looks very clean and professional. You can also get dark or pitch black paired with a horde of other colors. It is the best dark theme I have used so far.

Unless something has changed (maybe they have), Substratum _does_ work on stock, in legacy mode.
Best if used to theme third party apps. It's generally not advisable to try and theme the Android System, SystemUI, or ROM/brand/carrier-specific apps and Settings on stock ROMs.
Plus it's a bummer that on some ROMs the notifications text is hardcoded black. Trying to darken the notifications doesn't work out too well.

Dark DNA is a good free dark theme, but I've found one spot with unreadable text - the prompt that asks you which browser to use when clicking a link has white-on-white text.

Latest S8 Update: Navbar colors

Hi guys,
So I've just installed the latest S8 update, which killed the color picker for the navbar and essentially gives you all white colors (Screenshot attached). Even if I use "Apply current theme", it's still white in some apps (e.g. Play Store, Instagram, Snapchat, Whatsapp many more). So I've downloaded "Navbar Apps" and it does the job of getting my navbar to a full black, but only sometimes. Im using a dark theme and have been using black navbars since they existed (why does Samsung even have white ones lolol) and navbar apps doesn't work 50% of the time and doesn't have the "ripple" animation when pressed, so I would really like a stable, solid black navbar. Any ideas? Thanks!
Same thing here...
The best thing would be to make it translucent IMO.

Lol, thanks that actually worked (although I had to sacrifice the ripple animation). Still looking for a more seamless way to fix this though. To anyone interested: here's how I set it up (Screenshot attached). Can't really notice the translucency, but it looks black and that's what I'm going for.
Cheers!

Switching to dark theme

I just just switched to dark theme and again This is my first oneplus so I'm still learning. my question is does the stock dialer not change to a dark mode when you switch to dark theme? It kinda bugs me that everything else is dark theme ie launcher, messages, system yet my dialer is still super bright. Is this the way it's supposed to be?
Mine dialer is dark. Did you try a reboot?
I did, then I ended up clearing cache and data. No luck! Tried reverting to light theme and colorful theme and retried dark theme again. I did reboot in between switching themes and my dialer is still the same
It bothered me enough to actually factory reset the phone ...I didn't have anything of importance since I just got it this phone. First thing I did after setting it up was go directly to using the dark theme. Works now :good:

Check out Deep Black 2.0 and Pure Google 2.3
They both have the same issue ?
I've found a theme called One Cool very nice dark theme with a toast notification I can read.
Highlights are in red, but I edited the theme.xml files and now they are blue and looks great
Pure dark, directly by Play Store
The emerald gold theme (directly purchased from the themes app) is very nice!
Where did you get the One Cool theme from? Since the last update to Android 9 annoyingly there's no more dark themes on honor 9.
If possible can you share it with us. Thx
A pretty good dark theme from the Play Store: Black Pie for EMUI 9/9,1
1. Download the theme from this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=emui.en.com.pieblack&hl=en_US&showAllReviews=true
2, Apply the theme in the Themes app.
3. Turn off Advanced visual effects in Settings> Smart Assistance > Accessibility. (optional)
4. Reboot your phone.
yeah toast messages and contacts is messed up in dark themes, has anyone found one that has fixed those?

Agreed. Most EMUI 9-compatible dark themes seem to work well on devices running EMUI 9.0.0. However, there are some models (like Honor 9, Huawei P10 and some others) which have been upgraded to EMUI 9.0.1.
íi tried some EMUI 9.1-compatible themes. The earlier mentioned Black Pie theme is pretty good, however, the Messages app looks terrible. The messages cannot be read. In a Hungarian Honor 9 forum, someone recommended the Pure Google v.2.8. Here, the Contacts and Messages apps and most system apps look very mice but the Settings main menu is not so nice. At least for me.
The Pure Google v.2.8 theme is available via the Themes Manager app. The app can be downloaded from the Play Store.

I'd like some info on hardcore system ui theming.

Hello folks,
Recently I have been super invested in the art style from Persona 5. I've got a wallpaper from KWLP, set notification sounds and I even have a boot animation of the loading screen of that game.
I would like to know if there is any way to theme my system UI even further by replacing icons on the notification bar, nav bar, quick settings and so on. App backgrounds will be great as well.
So far, I've rooted my phone with Magisk on stock OOS 11 and have access to EdXposed.
I can make the icons myself so that would be no issue.
If there is any known way, please link me to a guide if there is any.
Any help will be appreciated!
Not sure it's possible to learn how to theme from a response in a thread.
Might be easier to use a framework like substratum.
Xposed won't help, in fact it'll probably hurt more than anything.
See if substratum may help. Also look up building a substratum theme, there may be guides already out there for that.
If you're talking from scratch and with no knowledge, I think this will be a very long thread before you're ready to start.
Great that you want to do it yourself though, dive in and try some stuff.

No I don't think it is, I think it was at one point but something changed
Try the Evo X ROM, the theme possibilities are endless.
Excellent ROM
