6t T-Mobile Native Video Calling - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Does the T-Mobile version support native video calling like my Samsung phone does (no third party app needed, just phone number through dialer to compatible phones)?
Since my family and I use that a lot, the lack of that would be a possible deal breaker
I heard the OP6 and OP5\t couldn't do it on TMobile and assuming the unlocked OP6t can't (can anyone confirm?)

*Request* Wifi Calling for AWS Streaks?

Is there any hope of this working for the AWS Streak? Us AWS owners seem kind of few and far in between, so I'm not sure if this has even been addressed.
I know there have been some phones that never came with the app, nor were meant to ever have it (Nexus One for example), and they now have Wifi Calling. I'd be willing to give a pretty generous donation if anyone could get this to work.

Do you mean you cannot do it using Skype and Fring and so on?
Some tmobile branded android phones have a feature callled wifi calling which basically makes the phone a microcell. Regardless of your cell signal, you can make calls with your regular mobile number. The app is a preinstalled tmobile app, but has been made to work on some non tmobile branded android phones.

OK, and your on T-mobile, so have you tried installing a apk from one of these threads?
As its T-Mobile specific and sometimes hardware specific, unless someone with a T-Mobile AWS streak posts the apk for you, your not gonna get this working, if all else fails there is always google voice, skype and so on.
According to this thread, it will not work.
Im pretty sure its not hardware with android phones. Some of the android phones that currently support wifi calling were out way before they made the feature possible with android. The nexus 1 for instance, was never intended for wifi calling, but with some tweaks, they got it working. From my knowledge, the only real limitations for android phones are aws bands and a tmobile sim.

Use Groove IP. I use to use pbxes before with csipsimple to make free calls through google voice but now I just use google voice and Groove IP
The only issue I have is none of the roms I've tried have the right audio driver for using the bult in echo canceler for voip/sip calls. Basically the person I'm speaking to always hears an echo when they talk
Anyone else have an echo issue?
Still no devs that are willing to look into this?

Is Sprint replacing original S4 with tri-band?

If one takes an original S4 into a Sprint store and it needs to be replaced are they replacing with tri-band spark model now or with original S4?

Yes its been happening since December. I'm sure there are some regular ones out there but most I would sat 90% are Triband phones.

Mine has been acting funny and I have avoided taking it in since I like using 3rd party roms. I understand Spark and now WiFi calling will be lost on the tri-band using 3rd party Roms.

Spark, No. It's confirmed working on most Roms. WiFi calling will be lost as its only a part of Triband software not regular gs4 software.

Hopefully that will get resolved at some point. My Airave is horrible and I would like to be able to ditch it at some point and still reliably be able to send and receive calls. BTW The Airave make receiving MMS at home impossible using Hangouts. I have had to switch to GO! SMS Pro.

Anyone replaced their T-Mobile model with international unlocked?

Right now (just started looking into this) this seems like a no-brainer. Performance is much better and it's rooted!!!! I know you lose wifi calling in theory (although mine hasn't worked since I purchased it despite hours of troubleshooting and tweaking (sucks bc no coverage at home (rural)), but that can potentially be addressed by a custom rom? Thoughts?
I did the switch. Battery life is better. Speed difference is unnoticeable. Signal/Calling quality is fine. I would most likely switch back if root was available for the t-mobile model (but wouldn't if advanced calling was available for international).
Getting wifi calling + VOLTE + video calling is no small task if that matters to you (the S6's wifi calling was never ported to international models even though they shared the same chipset). It would take porting a qualcomm written csc to a exynos chipset and either porting t-mobile's custom ims implimentation or making the standard ims implimentation work with t-mobile. That being said, it has been done. The Galaxy S5 saw advanced calling from the S6 ported back, HTC's flagships have had wifi calling ported.
I had an international Note5 on T-Mobile's network. I hated not having WiFi calling and advanced messaging features and such. I was able to flash a ROM that included some of the lost features luckily, but that would not be the case here since the chipsets are different (at least not possible now). Additionally, for some reason the signal was always worse than my girlfriend's Note5 even when side-by-side. Consistently worse... I wouldn't deal with the hassle again.
hi, I switched too and I'm glad I did, battery is definitely better and I didn't notice performance differences (nor reception). I believe wifi calling hasn't been/can't be ported but some roms support VOLTE. Just be advised that samsung doesn't honor the warranty of international variants in the US hence insurance companies such as Upsie won't insure your device.
How do you switch?

Just got an international variant yesterday. Loving it but been struggling to change my CSC to one that supports Samsung Pay. I know the LYS CSC supports it and I've flashed it in Odin which reported success and did fine but upon using my device it didn't change my CSC. So confused as to why...

This is the first phone I've owned that I really haven't felt the need to root. I used to want to root to disable bloatware and to change the theme of the system which I can do on the S7 edge without root. Only thing I do miss is the ad blocking with root but that's a small annoyance that I can live it. Also with the T-Mobile version you get all the necessary bands for extended range LTE which is amazing here in the LA area. Everywhere I go I have solid LTE whether it's indoors or oudoors. I also just used Samsung pay yesterday for the first time at Sprouts grocery store and it worked so easily on the first try! This pay system is flawless. The old lady behind me had a surprised look on her face when I payed that way. Got a free $20 gift card from Samsung for using it for the first time. Just my personal opinion on why the carrier branded T-Mobile version is better.

And the G935F connects fine to band 12

My experience with my international S6 was very similar to yours. I moved back to the states with it and signed up with T-mobile. In my gym, which is underground, I could barely get a 4G signal (or nothing at all). Emails and notifications wouldn't come through even when I was connected to 4G. I got the s7e on tmobile and although signal still isn't strong, notifications come through reliably.
Not too scientific as they are different phone models and I've never paid this observation too much mind but now that I've heard your story, I'm inclined to think that carrier specific models might be better at picking up signal on that carrier.
Been using international version for a while, returned my t-mobile version on the 20th day, by that time it was apparent to me that the t-mobile version would not be getting rooted anytime soon. In my opinion this device is much better rooted, especially since i like a lot of color schemes on my status bar and the Ads were driving me crazy. would've preferred a rooted t-mobile version, but a rooted international version is light years better than a stock version of any kind imo.

No video chat on the S8?

I'm getting my S8 in a couple days and I just heard there is no longer the video chat feature. That's a feature I love on my S7. Please tell the S8 has video chat.
Google duo
Facebook, Whatsapp, Google Hangouts..... How many more do you want?
Do you mean video calling? I use it everyday on my S8. When making a call, there is a video call option.
I have video calling available and working on international s8 model.

So T-Mobile has some features built in to their firmware, I guess. The Video calling, Advanced Messaging and Digits service which is built into the phone app are all available when you purchase T-Mobile version of the phone or at least as I did by flashing their firmware. Other users can flash to their carrier's firmware and possibly get some additional features that aren't available on unlocked firmware.

Google Fi Carrier Switching?

I'm curious, I'm VERY new to the android world (My iPhone XS Max is still my primary)
I started with Androids about a year ago out of both boredom and a desire to learn.
So, I picked up a Pixel 2, then an LG V30, then S8, then S9, until I found the OnePlus 6. I was instantly hooked on the OnePlus 6, only replacing it with the 6T for the fingerprint reader in the screen. (I still have the 6 and 6T, all others were sold)
Anyway - Google Fi is intriguing to me, as I end up in areas were T-Mobile simply doesn't work. I would like the carrier switching, but I don't have a desire to switch back to a more expensive Pixel 3 XL, that really ONLY offers me the advantage of the carrier switching. Overall, I found the OnePlus 6/6T running Pie to be the cleanest experience.
So, my question - Does anyone feel that someone may be able to get the OnePlus phones to do the carrier switching? Or is this actually a hardware feature? I know nothing about how Fi works, so please excuse my ignorance.
Thank you in advance for any productive responses.
Alternatively, maybe I should just sell the 6 and 6T and pickup with 3XL?

Yes, I understand that. But the question was "Does anyone feel that someone may be able to get the OnePlus phones to do the carrier switching? Or is this actually a hardware feature?"
In other words, if the switching software based that may be able to be patched into the 6/6T, or is it a modem hardware feature exclusive to the official Fi devices?

I was hopping this would be fully functional as Fi announced support for non Fi devices, but apparently network swapping is not going to work or work so well. See the write up for the explanation.
https://www.xda-developers.com/project-fi-samsung-oneplus-lg-moto-iphones/
looks to me like the one plus 6 is on there, so, the T might work as well.
contact google directly, and ask them, thats the best way to find out
Ugh, is no one actually reading the question?
I'm not asking if the phone will work with Fi, I'm asking if the carrier switching is does in hardware or software, and if it is software do the devs here feel that they may be able to port the carrier switching to the other supported phones?
ok, now I understand..
asking questions here makes people assume you are discussing the 6T, NOT project fi/android in general..
good luck

Everything I read is that you would only be using T-Mobile. But since the 6t is dual SIM you can have dual service. I plan on getting a one plus 6t and using fi(TMO) for phone calls and texting and Unreal mobile (ATT) for Data. I am not sure if you can use VZW or Sprint for the second SIM but T-Mobile and AT&T is better in most cases than TMO and Sprint (no US Cellular in my area)

Alternatively you can get a pixel 2 or 3 and project fi esim and an alternate SIM. Although it's only one SIM at a time. That way though you do get essentially 3 carriers to choose from for service
So I found if I could dial a code in my dialer for fi, with the Google Fi app installed and activated, and get "cannot switch carrier", all I had to do was clear data on my app and the dialer switch would work
It's on their site. When you choose the 6t it shows what's supported and what's not. See attached image
To answer your question, yes it appears to be a hardware problem. It is either that we don't have the cdma radios needed for sprint or el goog is playing favorites and only wants certain hardware to work for carrier switching between tmobile and sprint. I am not familiar with the us cellular required radios but it is likely the same el goog restriction in this case as well. My vote is that el goog is trying to get people to buy the officially supported devices for full functionality, they are becoming more and more just like all other carriers now, huh?
Either way I think I am switching back to fi now that the 6t is at least officially compatible for use on tmobile and I am almost certain that wifi calling will work where service is poor. I am on tmobile now and wifi calling works just fine, I made a 30 minute wifi call last night and worked perfectly.
So it's a software problem. Google will not release the software as part of an update included with every android release or they won't work with the manufacturer to update the partition responsible

OnePlus 6T has full support for T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and US Cellular. For Verizon and US Cellular, it also supports every CDMA Band.
For Sprint, it has every LTE Band and is missing one CDMA Band. Sprint doesn't allow unapproved devices on their network, and activation is tied to the device MEID unlike Verizon. There's no hardware reason why Fi can't allow at least LTE on both T-Mobile and Sprint. Perhaps the issue is that Sprint restricts them in some manner from using Fi on devices not in Sprint's database. Also Band 71 (T-Mobile) oddly doesn't work on Google Fi, so maybe it would lend credence to there being weird LTE Band restrictions for Fi's carrier agreements.
Well I am going back to tmobile, fi doesn't allow wifi calling and tmobile does so for me it is a no brainer. I still think that there is more going on here than just hardware issues but that's just my opinion. I mean, why is wifi calling not allowed on fi(tmobile) but it is on tmobile?
Not sure if you already switched back or if you are open to trying another service again, but i have been using Mint Mobile for a while now and love it. My monthly payment comes out to $24/Month with 5GB of data and an additional $10/1GB or $20/3GB.
