No video chat on the S8? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I'm getting my S8 in a couple days and I just heard there is no longer the video chat feature. That's a feature I love on my S7. Please tell the S8 has video chat.

Google duo

Facebook, Whatsapp, Google Hangouts..... How many more do you want?

Do you mean video calling? I use it everyday on my S8. When making a call, there is a video call option.

I have video calling available and working on international s8 model.

Video Calling wasn't available on Unlocked US model when I used it with T-Mobile service. I had to flash it to T-Mobile firmware to get that + few other features.

So T-Mobile has some features built in to their firmware, I guess. The Video calling, Advanced Messaging and Digits service which is built into the phone app are all available when you purchase T-Mobile version of the phone or at least as I did by flashing their firmware. Other users can flash to their carrier's firmware and possibly get some additional features that aren't available on unlocked firmware.

Not sure about other recording apps. But the ACR app does not work yet on my S7 edge. It worked perfectly on the S6 edge. Hopefully it can be updated to work.
This is with the Snapdragon version, I can't speak on Exynos.

thx, mine arrives in a few days so I'll try all the apps out and see.
Just tested ACR on my S7 Edge (with Exynos) and it worked fine. The recording of my voice was a little quiet but still loud enough to hear. The other end of the phone was loud and clear.
I tried Automatic Call Recorder on a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (Exynos variant) and it worked just fine
The call recording app from Skvalex working flawlessly for me.

I just downloaded and tried the trial version on S7 edge Snapdragon through Tmobile and it isnt working right for me. It will record, but through the mic which results in the other end being very quiet and if i mute then it records nothing. Is there a setting i need to change to get it working right?
I used to use Call Recorder by Killer mobile, however on the S7 edge it is doing the same thing and recording though the mic as opposed to full two sided recording.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
just heard total recall from killer mobile works perfectly with the exynos version of samsung s7 edge , can anyone here please try and confirm the same [ as to whether the rec n both sides is clear or not]
It appears call recording only works on Exynos variants. Snapdragon phones got it bad this year.

I have it working also but not getting the other side of the call on bluetooth.
I've tried all the best rated call recorder on my Galaxy s7 edge, none work. Had no problems with my Galaxy Note 4. Help? Desperately need another working app.
well ive now tested my g935F and it works loud and clear, both ends, with call recorder from app dev ViktorDegt. its been quite stable for a good years use on the Innos D6000.

hope you guys get root so you can change the kernel to allow call recording, i was prepared to get another s7 edge model if it didnt work.

ACR dev here, I've been tracking this issue related to American version of S7/Edge
It looks like this is more to do with Android 6 firmware for US. As previously working phones such as S6/Edge stops supporting call recording with Samsung Android 6 for US
I have a s7 and a S7 edge and both are US SD820. AT&T to be exact. Both are able to record calls with Call Recorder by Skvalex. Im only getting my side of the conversation while on bluetooth. With Bluetooth off, both sides are recording just fine. As I'm on the road for the entire day, I need the bluetooth functionality to work. Has anyone successfully recorded both sides of the call over bluetooth with any of these apps on a snapdragon model?

Ive tried just about ever one thats offered, none work on my new Sprint Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Very dissapointed as i used my call recorder alot on my previous Samsung phones. Any suggestions besides rooting? I Believe this is a Snapdragon issue, Edges with Xynos don't seem to have this problem.

Using Exynos S7 Edge on T-Mobile

Hi, I've only ever used the carrier-supplied phones on their networks. However, I'm thinking of getting the international version of the S7 Edge due to the Exynos processor. I'm wondering about the following though:
1. Will network performance be ideal? ie. Could some missing band support mean I don't get full speed?
2. How will updates pushed by T-Mobile work? I understand there will be an update for the new 4x range LTE band which has better building penetration. Would an international variant of the phone on T-Mobile receive such an update AND/OR be able to make use of the new band?
Thanks,
Steven
Network performance should be fine as long as the variant you pick up has proper bands.
Updates will be pushed by Samsung instead of Tmobile with an unlocked variant.

Do you think the difference is really worth it if there is even a difference?
From what I've seen one is better with certain things and the other is better with other things but even then the difference is very small.

I've been thinking of selling my tmobile s7 edge and get the international one. I switched from an iPhone 6 plus to the s7 edge, and my god... This thing is a beauty. The only thing I miss from ios is the emoji, and that is the sole reason why I desperately need to root my device haha
Edit: I'm still new to the Android scene but if samsung push the update instead of tmobile, does that mean the international variant will get the update much earlier than the tmobile version?

I could answer your first question as I have the exynos variant and am on the T-Mobile network in usa, yes for some reason there are a lot of network performance issues, when I first for the phone my LTE speeds tested to be 60 mbps now it's only 20-30!

Perhaps you work in a large warehouse with poor cell signal or a large complex building such as a hospital. Perhaps your house is at the edge of coverage where signal is unstable. Plenty of reasons why wifi calling is useful for many people.
Wifi calling is not great but if you're in an area with poor indoor coverage, that's the only option.
My office just happens to be in a dead spot. When I walk outside, I have full bars. Even the tmobile repeater only picks up 2 bars. We have stable wifi so wifi calling works best. Sometime package drop affects phone quality issue but that's the nature of VoIP.
T-mobile Wi-Fi calling is a must for my phone. Tmobile service is not existent in hospitals, office buildings and sometimes on the other side of a tree.
I keep watching tekhd thread in international to see if that is one of the "T-Mobile" rom parts he gets working.

I have the euro version on tmobile, and my speeds are the same as with the U.S version, also I live in nyc where tmobile service is great so I never use wifi calling. I do miss volte though.
so you get LTE speed and everything else, except VOLTE and wifi calling and oh samsung pay ( but android pay will do) right? Because I ordered 1 from amazon so we'll see
Any reason why would wifi calling not work on Tmobile? I was able to enable and use it on my N6P so I don't see why it would be different. If I believe the international version forum, the most recent update enabled it and numerous users report using it on other carriers.
Exynos Lte icons
Hello this might seem dumb but i can't find the answer anywhere. In the past i have owned phones that did not show lte on t-mobile and would instead show HSPA+ now on my s7 exynos it just shows 4g and when making a call it goes to the hspa+. Is that how the exynos versions show lte or is mine not picking up lte. Or how can i check to make sure it is running lte. Thanks in advance and from personal experience i enjoyed using my exynos s7 a lot more then my s7 edge from tmobile. The exynos runs a lot smoother.

Yes, it is LTE. You can check in the settings, phone info area or with an app to switch network data type (in which you can chooses LTE only, etc.)

Thank you. Im new to android. Been jailbreaking ios devices for a long time. I appreciate the help.
You get better battery life and no Verizon bloatware running the unlocked U firmware. I switched my Verizon phone to the U firmware. I'm never going back to the Verizon firmware. I use Google voice for visual voicemail.

Is VVM from the stock phone app working for you with Google Voice on U firmware? I tried it on vzw firmware and it's broken. The voicemails show up but it's unable to play them. Seems to be an issue on most Samsung devices on marshmallow, there's an open thread about it on Google's forums.

I installed the beta, and that option was automatically selected.
Yep. Just tried turning on LTE only and I cannot make a phone call. So option is there, but not working at present.
Anybody know how to enable WiFi calling on this phone, or does ATT block any phone not approved and sold through them?
works for me when i make a call, LTE stays on
I just chatted with At&t. They told me that both my pixel 2xl and my wife's pixel are compatible for HD Voice and Enhanced Messaging. They told me to wait 2 hours and reboot. I'll update this post with the results
How did you get VoLTE turned on?
Edit: Realized there must not be a switch. Also decided to not be a dummy and actually read the first page of posts. LTE stays on for me when calling now.
Now if we could get enhanced messaging (10 mb limit) and wifi calling/texting, we'd be onto something

So after 11 hours still no features. I contacted At&t and am now being told that the original Pixel XL is not compatible. The new Pixel 2XL may be but I will have to be approved. I provided my IMEI to the rep and they are supposed to email me back within 72 hours. I also provided her an ad I found from At&t encouraging people to bring their new Pixels to At&t. I provided some screen shots below for you guys

Yup. I highly doubt this will go anywhere. Even if the pixel 2 has the capabilities, AT&T wants people to lease phones from them with their branding, period. I got an S8 through the Next program at launch (April) and VoLTE worked no problem. Before that I brought my own unlocked devices, Nexus 5, 6, and 6p. None of them ever were able to use advanced features.

Yep. It would be a clear departure from their current position that only AT&T branded devices get these advanced features.
One can hope though.
Just had a chat with AT&T. You do need to contact them and give them your IMEI to get VoLTE working. Mine now works.

6t T-Mobile Native Video Calling

Does the T-Mobile version support native video calling like my Samsung phone does (no third party app needed, just phone number through dialer to compatible phones)?
Since my family and I use that a lot, the lack of that would be a possible deal breaker
I heard the OP6 and OP5\t couldn't do it on TMobile and assuming the unlocked OP6t can't (can anyone confirm?)
