T mobile lg v20 h1918 Oreo 8.0 stock root question - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Okay so i acquired an lg v20 . my quesriom is as follows . i would like ro know if it's possible still to root and install cwm or tarp on this device ? Im on h191820f software verdiom . I'm pretty familiar with flashing some and rooting and breaking Knox on Samsung phones but I don't want to risk bricking this one by an incorrect procedure / yes i know there is always the risk of bricking. Anyway do I need to some how roll back or is it just a straight shot of using adb and unlockong bootloader and flashing recovery ?

You will need to use a kdz to roll back to 10p then use the instructions in the laf exploit thread to root and install TWRP then you can update back to oreo using the rooted stock Oreo rom

I don't have it as I don't have a h918 I believe you can get kdz from LG website

It's a fairly simple process overall once you have the rooted Oreo ROM flashable zip stored someplace; my recommendation is to have a microSD card handy to put that archive on. You don't need to root the device before you do all this, root is not required to get from what you have right now to the rooted Oreo ROM (which has Magisk preinstalled).
- roll back to 10p (which you can easily do on the H918)
- install TWRP using the lafsploit which requires that Linux USB stick you create which does NOT require you to install Linux on your computer, you will simply make the USB stick and then boot the computer from THAT USB STICK and do what's necessary, it takes like 5 minutes start to finish
- once you reboot back into TWRP the recommendation (at least mine) is to install TWRP (the latest version) directly to the Recovery partition where it belongs and then restore the laf partition (there's a flashable Zip in that same thread to do that), and then shutdown the device totally
- reboot into the freshly installed TWRP (on the Recovery partition) with the Volume Down + Power button (hold Power till you see the LG logo, release it and quickly press it again), then choose Yes for the two options
- once you're in TWRP nice and proper, then you'd do a full wipe (system/data/cache/Dalvik/internal storage - but only do the internal storage IF you have the Oreo ROM flashable zip on a microSD card, if not then it'll have to be on internal storage which of course you don't want to wipe but you can always copy that file to it from inside TWRP if needed from a computer)
- install the rooted Oreo ROM flashable zip, let it boot after it's done, then I'd say do another regular wipe (data/cache/Dalvik cache) and then you'll be totally good to go after the next reboot and initial setup
I've done this like 8 times on my V20 of late for testing purposes and it's relatively easy IF YOU FOLLOW THE STEPS that are provided in the necessary threads.

im done. im tired of trying to do this root bull crap. i got the lg v20 in 2019 because i wanted something that was high end. i got that, but no root or recovery...... why cant root be as easy as just flashing twrp via fastboot and then flashing magisk via the recovery like it is on the budget lg devices like the lg aristo 2..... :\ this blows.

But no, instead we have to do all this dumb ****. downgrading firmwares, booting linux from a pendrive, restoring laf partitions. WHAT EVEN IS LAF?! ive never heard of it in my whole life. wish i hadn't have heard of it. its all just one big ass headache. then, to even get the lastest android update, and keep root. you have to flash that too. why is it so damn hard now. i mean seriously, has the android security been upgraded that much?????????????

i know all this stuff seems easy to you guys, but considering the fact that i have learning disabilities in real life, it's really really hard for me

I understand you have learning disabilities but the steps are pretty straight forward. If you need help just pm me and I can walk you through the steps. Or you can ask a question on XDA. Just be polite when asking...

1050F: OTA Update #S100256_160119

Received this yesterday evening and am wondering if anyone has a good idea of what this update entails. It states is security patch and stability fix, if I'm not mistaken. Probably just a regular non-major update, then?
I am in the middle of returning my tab back to stock to then update to this update... Will report back in a while. @all
If you have unlocked your bootloader to use a custom recovery DO NOT UPDATE. It will soft brick!!! I tried in vain and am having to resort to 'back to stock' as, like a pleb, I don't backup before I tinkered
Sent from my SM-G901F using Tapatalk
I happens to the best of us, man. Sorry to hear. I'm currently not rooted, but at some point will, so that possibility of messing up will ALWAYS be there.
i have just updated my yoga 830LC. But i forgot my bootloader is unlocked. It's soft brick. Can you help me how to back to stock Lollipop ROM. please help me! thanks
Do you have a backup? When I first tried to update I think it did update part of the rom. I reflashed the patched esp (which you should still have if you have unlocked you boot-loader)
It then let me in to recovery and to restore.
Try that and report back
Sent from my SM-G901F using Tapatalk
Hi. I have this update from lenovo too, my 1050F is rooted, how I do a backup ? and you flash which stock rom, before upgrading ?
If possible, I want to keep my data.
Thank you.
I think the only way to keep you data is with something like Titanium backup saved to an external source and then whenever the update is finished re-root and restore selected backed up data
If you have unlocked you boot-loader you must have flashed a customers recovery. I did a twrp back up and selected what I want to restore.
Edit - get the files you need from this post

I have the 8 inch version of this tablet (830F) and received a similar update notification.
I just used the temp recovery trick to root and disable some bloat but left it otherwise stock. The tablet is currently in the process of backing up with temp TWRP and I was thinking of unrooting and giving this update a shot.
But it's not worth losing root over it...
Did anyone apply the patch in the meantime? Were you able to root again?
Thanks.
Yeah I have rooted, unlocked the boot-loader and flash twrp... All is good.
Have you flashed the patched boot-loader? If so you will need to flash the stock 830F ROM
Soft Brick
I'm just leaving my experience in case anyone does the same mistake as I.
I tried to use de "Hide root" option of SuperSu before upgrading, I have a locked bootloader, so I thought that it would be enough but I well... it didn't even boot after de lenovo screen
So I had to returno to stock, after reading what other peole did I manage to finally flash it back to stock lollipop.
I download this stock rom from lenovo-forums.ru

Then, enter on bootloader mode. I did it from de Recovery Mode (PWR on, and after de "lenovo" press both volume keys)
And just flash it with Phone Flash Tool
Everything it's probably pretty obvious for many of you but I leave this here for noobies like me! :victory:

I have understood you have only install system partition. Right ?

Sounds good. No I only have the temp twrp bootloader pushed from the pc. Untethered it is stock but it's rooted. I'll revert that tomorrow and give this a shot. Cheers.

I have a new 1050F which has finished churning through all the updates to get it from KitKat.
It is now at the level of this update (..S100256_160119..)
I was about to root following the "[HOW TO] Root Yoga Tablet 2 [STEP-BY-STEP] [NOOB FRIENDLY]" 1st post instructions by AndroMAN (which uses a temporary pushed recovery) but I'm now a little concerned since that will put me in exactly the position of you -beluga-.
I'd be grateful if you could let me know how you get on (or if anyone else can comment on whether attempting to root this way is now a bad idea)

Ok, this was a success -
1. Unroot through the SU app (just to be safe)
2. Restart
3. Apply the update through the regular system/settings UI and wait for it to finish
4. Re-root as before (using IntelAndroid-FBRL-07-24-2015 and BETA-SuperSU-v2.67-20160121175247)
Keep in mind that I was on stock bootloader and didn't alter much besides disabling crapware. Deeper modifications may cramp your style.
Cheers

LG-STYLO H634 CRICKET Supersu/xposed framework installation guide

ok, so there are some things i've found out by doing some research and combining what i found on here with the issues that some people were having with the Cricket version of the LG Stylo, and would like to share with you guys. while i was rooting my phone with kingroot, i noticed a threat that discussed that using supersu me and supersu wasn't an option without soft bricking your phone with a boot loop, after some research and trial i figured out how to get around the problem. The issue was the uninstallation of kinguser app form the phone, this is because using supersu me uninstalls kingroot and replaced it with the superuser binaries, but it leaves some core files of kinguser behind which causes errors, an if you keep your phone on, you'll notice that you'll start getting error messages for an about kingroot permission and all types of errors until your phone starts to freeze and act up. there is an easy fix for it all that worked for me, and would like to share this information and help people having this issue.....
I'm posting this as a hint for those who needed the help with installing xposed on cricket model LG STYLO only running 5.1.1
so to begin, download system repair 2016 and apps2sd from play store, kinguser directly from their site so it will be the latest version,,,root your phone,,,,,don't delete the kinguser apk you downloaded you'll need it for later,,,,now install supersu me from the play store and open and run it, it'll uninstall kinguser and replace the binaries for superuser, this is where its gonna become tricky,,,,,,download supersu and run which will ask for update of binaries also let it finish updating and uninstall the supersu me control,,,,,now open apps2sd and clear the davik cache and other caches without restarting,,,,then run system repair 2016, it'll show that you had a few errors because kinguser hates the fact that supersu me uninstalled it and left messed up configurations on your phone, then clear the davik cache again, now you have to use the same kinguser apk you get at the start of the process and reinstall it to your phone, or else you will be getting a boot loop issue......for some reason even though all the caches are cleared and the system has been checked for errors, the kinguser app installs itself as a system app, a dependency if you will, like a basic LG/Cricket app that if you uninstall will cause errors, so but reinstalling it we stop that problem, you can run it but don't need to activate the root option of kinguser......this will cause the kinguser permission errors to stop also from this point only you can restart your phone,,,,,now you're able to install flashfire and xposed frameworks, and even restart your phone without worry of boot looping since there isn't much support for the LG-H634 stylo model.........:angel:
hope this was helpful for you guys that was in need of replacing kinguser, and installing xposed framework, i've not tried anything further with the twrp install but keep a look out for the names "vegito6" "vegito69" ....and wish me luck on twrp

I'm pretty sure that you ended up with brick because you didn't unlock your bootloader before backing up. My girlfriend did the same thing. As of right now I'm trying to figure out If there's a way past the bootloader or at least a way to do everything the bootloader can do without unlocking it.
Original Firmware
Can we not flash the original firmware via download mode ? I had this phone (bought from a friend, cricket sim unlocked, phone bricked while i was playing around. )
I'm not super familiar with LG phones, but i keep hearing about a KDZ , is that some kind of official image format ?
If we can flash it for stock via download mode, can someone direct me as to where I might find instructions for our variant of the device, please ?
I was able to replace Kingroot with SuperSu using a guide I found on a website called w0lfdroid, I think. I just Google 'replace Kingroot with SuperSu and it was the second one down (I'm a new user so I can't post the link). I think it worked pretty well, but I'm still not able to flash TWRP or start the process to get xposed. If I can't get it, I might unroot and try the process again with this method.
as anyone with brick try this http://lg-firmware-rom.com/downloads/lg-g-stylo-h634-stock-tot-firmware-v10g/ , they offer files for unbricking, $40 bucks

works great, after flashing with LG Flash tools tot method just take out battery and wait 5sec, and put it back in and turn on, android logo will show and then it will boot normally, now i'm back to working on the supersu install methods to help people from bricking, wish me luck . also backing up boot img and then trying to use super sume to switch to still will cause boot looping to my knowledge. got 2 phones working on it, thanks to our annonomous LG guys for the unbricking

well not really, because if you go into the developer options there is the oem bootloader unlock you can select, not sure but i've got a cricket and boost version i've been working on it for a while, for some reason the phone doesn't like the way SU gets injected into the phone, and writes things to the wrong areas, i've been playing with some scripts for superuser installers from zip, hopefully i get a hit.

I noticed there is no solution posted. I recently bricked my phone and fixed it, thanks to you. I was simply wondering of there has been progress with getting the framework installed. Your help is much appreciated.
So I'm sort of confused... I cannot install xposed, and can't seem to find a work around. I am rooted but not with kingroot. I used a one click root tool on pc, and works great... Using su that is suggested using in this guide, so no trace of king root. Idk, could someone give me a quick run down on how to install xposed?
So no luck with installing xposed yet
So far I am rooted with Super SU and have exposed installer I'm just having a hard time getting the framework installed. I do not have custom recovery installed. Is there any way to flash the framework zip file with like flashify or another app like that?

LG Stylo 2 (LS775) root?

I had an LG Volt before this, that I rooted manually. However, I have yet to come across any method to rooting the LG Stylo 2. Is there any method as of late?

Heya - Yeah the boot loader will unlock from ads fastboot in a sec. the fastboot on the phone (I have the ms550 Metro version) is crippled, however. it will not fastboot boot so you can't just grab a twrp and test it by throwing it at it. I would like to test more, I'm willing to flash whatever since I know the download mode will let us fix all....I'm just trying to get a kdz file so I can have it in the background just in case I totally F it up
Obviously without the twrp I can't flash any of the su versions.
My spidey sense tells me it's not that far away for us. Just be patient. I love the phone ( I liked my G Stylo as well)

If I'm not mistaken I believe the phones are pretty much the same specs still aside from the camera. I have a bootable TWRP. If you run ATB you can boot into this trip without installing it I'd be more than happy to upload it for you guys. I believe the original maker was either Game Theory or DrakenFX.

Can you do that for us along with instructions? I'm kinda scared to do anything with my Stylo 2 since its basically untested and it is my daily driver.
Here ya go...boot zip with instructions
When you are supposed to boot the zip... Type in : fastboot boot.zip instead of twrpblah blah blah....i renamed it to be easier
Any way to flash this twrp thing your talking about without a comp..ill be honest ive only just started to root the last couple phones i owned and have tried to flash any kernels or roms or custom recoverys...but i really want to change up this stylo 2..and the opting out of adpotable storage lg sony and few others did is drove me crazy..i wish i woulds known before i bought this dumb thing

I'm confused. Does installing TWRP get us any closer to root? I mean it's good to be able to get a backup, but it's really root that I want.
Style 2
If boot loader is unlocked in a sence u can get root by pushing su right? And how do u get into factory recovery?
In the event that this fails (Since I have the Stylo 2 and not the Stylo) and my phone bricks, is there a program to de-brick?
Hmm, When I type in "adb reboot bootloader", my phone reboots. back to the lockscreen.
Mine does to I can put it in fast boot with out the PC but then can't get PC to find it that way

Rooting?

I'm new to xda and obviously I'm not a dev. I just want to root my Axon 7 so I can download root apps. I'm not tech savvy at all and I've created this thread because I have no idea what to do with this page : http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165 . Can anyone give a step by step tutorial on how to root my phone?
I feel so so out of place here... please don't scold me :x

I'm running B29.
What version are you running? B20/B27/B29
If you are not tech savvy, do not attempt the root method. It's for advance user and too many people have bricked their phone already. Just read the threads and you will know what I mean.

And yes I can probably guess the amount of people who bricked their phones. But what if everything were to be laid out simple and I follow the directions in every respect? I'm not going to start rooting until I know what I'm doing. So don't worry. I'm stupid but I'm not THAT stupid.
No your fine lmao I started with this phone so we're pretty much same level. As to my understanding it is possible but I would wait just a bit for the b29 stuff to come out.
Don't worry, you're not the only one. I've been reading these tutorials and it's all gibberish, lol.... Every phone I have has been rooted within the first day, this phone I've had over 2 months, and I still can't get it. So you're not alone, lol...
There definitely needs to be some cleaning done on this forum, with far too many threads covering the same topics and many OPs being out of date.
Best rooting guide I found was buried in a thread, but is now also out of date if you're running B29.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68302434&postcount=157
It might help if you're still on B27. I used it, had root and bootloader still locked, updated to B29 for the security patch, and was able to keep TWRP but lost root. Having TWRP still allows me to flash all the Google pixel stuff though, which is nice

I'm looking closely at this phone now myself...
I've seen the bootloader thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204
I'm only interest in this if I can successfully unlock the bootloader and stock root is possible...from what I've read, BOTH can be done. According to the root thread, the model I need (A2017G) is listed as unlockable, correct? What's the difference between a2017g B02 and B03??

OK I have read far too many of these questions here about root on B29 - so here goes.
1. Go to the ZTE website, download the stock B20, and install it.
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/wip-axon-7-root-bootloader-unlokced-t3441204 use this to get TWRP installed on your phone - don't worry about root.
3. http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165 UNLOCK the bootloader
4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68873482&postcount=2 flash boot file, system file, and SuperSU 2.65
Now please relax - anyone here with any dev skills whatsoever are neck deep in other projects (like CM13). B29 hasn't been out long and the only stock image we have from ZTE is B20, which doesn't give us a ton to work with
I also very new to android smartphone and I also feel so so out of place too.
I wish someone make a video how to root this axon 7 phone.
search around youtube jailbrake iPhone is so easy root samsung phone is so easy.... but root axon 7 nothing
I love axon 7 so much now but if I know it's so hard to root i'm just gonna buy samsung phone .
so F..... tired of this youtube ads
ads block is the only reason why I want to root
and that is the only reason why I jailbrake all my ideviese
For me, also with B29, the best and easy way was this from rczrider (thanx a lot). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69507226&postcount=766
But one issue after root: I have no access to system, i noticed that, as i install Gsam Battery Monitor root companion, that will install in priv-app but i was write protect. Also RootExplorer was not possible to copy/delete files in system, because write protect. How to change that?

I forgot to add a final step to that list. I've updated it and here's the new one:
Copy everything off your internal storage that you don't want to lose.
Get all of the files you need from the steps below and put them on your microSD card.
Flash TWRP (recovery) using the method in the OP (B27 file is fine). You don't need to flash the boot image.
Unlock the bootloader (B27 is fine): http://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-how-to-unlock-bootloader-stay-t3461165
Flash B29: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68873482&postcount=2
Boot phone, set it up, whatever
*Reboot to TWRP, go to Advanced > Terminal and type: reboot disemmcwp
This will leave you with an unlocked bootloader, a fully functioning TWRP (no data encryption issue), and rooted B29. You will not be able to receive OTAs.
*This disables write protection and allows your changes (such as AdAway) to stick with reboot. You need to run this before your changes will stick. You don't have to use TWRP (you could also use a terminal emulator or ADB), but I find that since you have to reboot anyway, it's just as easy to do it in TWRP.

So are they still releasing a new bootloader unlock tool? Or should I just go ahead and do these steps?

Yes, ZTE still supports bootloader unlocking on the Axon 7. It is currently on hold, but yes, our understanding is that they will be releasing a new process (likely with Nougat).
I can't think of any reason not to unlock now because you can always re-lock if you want to. Who knows what the new process will entail.

Yea well I was hoping the new tool wouldn't kill the warranty but that's wishful thinking, and after some thought I highly doubt that will happen. So time to unlock the bootloader,l and flash TWRP.....soon as I get off work in 9 hours.

I think ZTE will eventually put out a bootloader unlock without killing the warranty. But, yeah, either way it's easy enough to do it on your own now.

Thank you; thank you, THANK YOU!!!!! I tried for an hour or two, using both ADB and Terminal Emulator to apply this "reboot disemmcwp" fix, and I just couldn't get it to work (I'm on B29). Then, I saw your instructions to use TWRP and followed them, and it worked first time, like a charm!
Thanks again - I'm a very happy camper. You da' man, LOL!

Any way to twrp a CID 11 sm-g900v?

Hi I have a CID 11 sm-g900v that I would like to install twrp recovery on. Is there any way to unlock the bootloader or flash it or do anything to get twrp on it?
The reason I ask is I would love to have magisk manager on it, but from what I understand it needs twrp on the phone first.
I want to have root, but I also want to play certain games on Google Play that won't install if it detects you have root. Magisk has a way to hide root on your phone.
IMO it's complete BS that they do this. It's no one else's business if your phone is rooted or not. I kind of wish I could dual-boot my phone. One partition that has an OS with root access, and another partition with an OS that doesn't. Of course even if that was possible I would need an unlocked bootloader to do that.
Anyways any help would be appreciated.
Install TWRP using g odin
Nah sorry bro CID 11 has no bootloader unlock so you can't install TWRP.
My phone has cid 11 and I install TWRP and ROMs all the time!
What variant of the s5 do you have?
Kltevzw. I flash TWRP for klte in odin.

Unless you've somehow gotten it unlocked, then I doubt that. Give him some info rather than the one line answers.
What can I say? I download TWRP for klte on to my computer. I open the Odin program, left click run as administrator. In the AP slot I put TWRP for klte. Turn off phone and restart into download mode, or Odin mode as some call it. Plug it into the computer.I click Start. I then have root access and can install ROMs. I don't know what other information to give other than that

Great.
It has told us the truth.
Your phone is SM-S902L, this topic is about SM-G900V.
Please, have a look at the thread's title.
The sm902l is a g900v!

I'm afraid you're mistaken. They are quite different.
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-G900VZWAVZW-specs
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SM-S902LZKATFN-specs
At least, SM-S902L is a CDMA/LTE phone and SM-G900V is a CDMA/LTE/GSM/UMTS phone.
The only ROMs I can flash are g900v ROMs! Look at the post a few above this one- another guy has a g900v with unlocked bootloader! My phone is a g900v. Always has been. Kltevzw. Say what you will, but original poster, just put TWRP for klte on your phone with odin. You'll have root. End of story.

Bbsc- I have the Toshiba CID 11 chip. Look in the specs for my phone.
I just upgrade my g900v from Kitkat to Lollipop. Verizon locks the bootloader, so there's no way to get Clockwork or TWRP on it. However, many features of TWRP (including creating an image of the phone to SD card) are in SafeStrap, which does work on this phone. See my recent posts for the links I used to do this, or start researching SafeStrap to see if that will allow you to achieve your goal.

I've tried installing twrp on my phone using the standard method. It bricks the phone. I have to re-image the OS to get the phone working again. So no, we don't have the same phone.
Even if we did have the same model phone, this model has two different chips. I have the "bad" chip in my phone that is hard to work with.
I'm thinking of just getting rid of it. I've had to many issues with this and at this point I just hate it.
I wish phone manufacturers would stop the crap and just give us access to root. Why play all these games?

The only reason I want twrp is to install magisk manager so I can "cloak" the root on my phone and play games like super mario run (which won't install on rooted phones) and still have root access.
I have safestrap installed but when I install magisk it bricks the phone and I have to re-image it again.
I've re-imaged my phone like 5 times already. I'm sick and tired of it. My next phone will either have one-click root or I won't be rooting it. I'm never imaging a phone again.
