Any possibilities with bootloader v3 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

As the title says, I should have read more into the dev community about this phone but I currently have a G950U with bootloader v3. Is there any possibility of any custom roms or rooting for this variant. Otherwise I am planning to return it.
Thanks in advance.

Dev-Edition & Roms

Hey all been out of the loop for a little bit and I have a question. With the phone being as locked down as it is I was thinking of getting the Verizon GS5 Dev-Edition. Can I use ROMs and/or Kernels that are in the main GS5 forum?
Thanks for the advice/help in advanced!

If it's the Dev Edition and once rooted, I would think so. I could be wrong.

Appreciate the quick reply! I'd imagine Kernals might be hit or miss but ROMs would be ok but I could be wrong on both accounts and I just wanted to make sure before I bought it.

Either way, the Dev edition is the way to go. There is a custom build in 'Original Android Dev' for the VZW S5 down a couple subforums that is confirmed stable.

Yea I saw the Kernel but there aren't any ROM's in the Verizon forum, the main GS5 forum is hoping though so I wanted to make sure I can actually do what I intend with the device given the money. Especially since I know the Dev-Edition will never get official updates from samsung.

I'm curious myself. I just purchased an M8 but if we can flash ROMs from T-Mobile/AT&T/Int'l/Etc onto the rooted/unlocked S5 DE I'd probably buy that instead.

From what I'm reading it should be ok as long as we use a Verizon kernel because the Intl version seems to also have the Snapdragon 801.
Waiting for someone with experience to confirm though.
Anybody?

[Q] How to unlock a bootloader if possible? (N900A)

Heya, I'm very new in the vast world of Android rooting and flashing and I've run into yet another problem trying to flash my N900A Note 3 variant. I finally got it SIM unlocked and rooted and just when I'm getting ready to flash I see something about bootloaders. I don't know how to check to see if it's locked but I'm more than certain it is. So, is there anyway to unlock the bootloader? I see people saying it can't be unlocked yet I see guides for unlocking them so really all I'm looking for is a straight answer.
And if I understand it right, Safestrap isn't something I want to do if it's not the 'real' thing, so if it can't be unlocked then I'll be looking into another phone. If I do, would it be better to get another Note 3 variant or the Sony Xperia z1s?
Thanks in advance.

AT&T models are locked at the bootloader, and there's no way to unlock them.
I have similar question....I have 9005 version and want to put new bootloader.....I put new NF2 modem and now i want to put NF4 bootloader....
Is it enough just to instal it through odin?
(Searched for instructions but couldn't find it.....)
Thanks....

Okay, I have a few questions on this subject.
Safestrap is a work-around a locked bootloader right? If I use it to flash a rom would there be that much of a difference?
If using safestrap pretty much the same thing then why do people still prefer to have unlocked bootloader?
Because I see guides to unlocking bootloaders, does this mean that it's just AT&T that won't let us unlock this phone version?
Sorry for the questions, I just want this stuff cleared up.

You can't change the kernel if your bootloader is locked, so safestrap only works with TW-based ROMs -- no cyanogenmod our other AOSP variants.
AT&T is one of the carriers that forces the OEMs to lock the bootloader. I believe Verizon is another one. No other carrier seems to care, or have enough power over the OEMs to force this.

LG G5 H831 Root?

Hi guys,
just bought my H831 tonight, and I'm wondering about rooting/ custom roms, and if it is a thing for this model yet. I tried to follow LG's bootloader unlock process, but i keep coming up with no adb devices, and no matter what drivers i try, i can't get it to show up, if anyone has suggestions, please let me know. As for the rest, anyone have good suggestions for custom roms? just got into the scene with this phone and I have no idea whats happening.
Thanks

There is no root or bootloader unlock for h831, the official unlock method is available only for european h850s, tot method with root and twrp si only available for H830.
Welp. As always, before buying a device, check if there's root or roms available, not after.

Do you know is a root is being worked on/coming reasonably soon? or would it be better to just sell the phone?

Nobody knows nothing, atm there are no dev that are working on obtaining root on other models afaik
Well ****, I miss root, but SafetyNet's been a major pain in the ass as of late, so now my h831 stays stock. Better than an iphone though.

All things root and Bootloader?

Hi Friends,
Hope you're all having a great new year. So last time I was lurking the S7E forums, we had a leaked Engineering Bootloader that was used to acquire root on all US Snapdragon models, albeit, with a lot performance issues and etc.
I came here to glance as well as all other variant forums for the SD model and now we have Root for every model, with even ROMs being baked like the Echo ROM for Verizon, Sprint, AT&T models, usually the toughest to achieve these things on. I'm trying to read through the forums, but I fear I'm missing the details, that will help me pull the trigger for getting the device or not.
Can one of you very experienced, knowledgeable, and kind members educate me on the latest?
1. Do we have unlocked Bootloader and Root for all US carrier S7Es? How is it done? I use people using Flashfire. So no TWRP?
2. Does this process still trip Knox and render Samsung Pay to never be used again on the device?
3. If I bought the Verizon variant, for example, can I root, unlock Bootloader, and etc, and then return to stock, to return to the store in case I don't like the phone?
4. Xposed Framework working for all models?
Much appreciate your responses, any and all of them in advance! Thanks!
1. There is no unlocked bootloader on any U.S models. Flashfire is what we use to flash ROMs.
2. Knox is not tripped by anything you'll see in these forums. Rooting disables Samsung Pay, but flashing back to stock fixes it.
3. Yes if you root or do anything you can Odin back to stock with a clean slate.
4. Yes
Do we really need another root/bootloader thread?

Thank you very much for your response, bud. One last follow up question: Since all the US variants are rooting based on the ENG Kernel, is there really a benefit of getting one variant over another, for rooting or etc purposes?

Thank you again! And they all even have the same radios and bands in all of the US variants?

AT&T s8 are there roms available?

Sorry if this seems dumb. So the AT&T is a950A? When i look at the s8 forum it's showing alot of activity but i don't necessarily see anything specific to our device model number. Do most roms cover all varients? Again sorry but I'm way more confused by this then I should be. Any insght would be appreciate.
The att S8 has a locked bootloader, there's no roms for it. The only roms are for the international 950F that has an unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the clarification. So rooting the att s8 is only for..?
Mods? Xposed? Some kind of backup program (titanium)? Or ?
Thanks in advance for any insights

Basically. It's nothing like it used to be. I haven't rooted since my S5. Really no need anymore since ROMs aren't an option. Just little tweaks
