OEM skin/software - Honor Play Real Life Review

Are you comfortable in your own skin? Is your phone comfortable in its skin? Rate this thread to express how you deem the skin on the Honor Play. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it adds just the right amount of features, it's visually pleasing, and overall it's additive to the experience. If this is a Nexus phone (you didn't think we hand-wrote all of these prompts, did you?) then use this rating to indicate how the latest version of Android looks to you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Well I usually do 2 things with my new phone :install Lawnchair launcher and BB keyboard. But this time in case of my Play I decided to give it a go to the EMUI and see how it goes in the latest version. To my surprise I find it very handy with a lot of useful "ad ons" so this time sticking with it. But the keyboard is a bit different. Just can't get used the SwiftKey... So sticking with BB keyboard. It's my favourite app in the past couple years and very reliable.

Can I use an Honor Play with Verizon?

The Honor Play is super fast and has a good battery backup but EMUI v8.2 for me was turn-off.
Things i did not like
Cannot expand the notification menu(notification drawer) without unlocking the phone to perform simple tasks like disable/enable WIFI, DND mode, Data...
No notification to dismiss alarm 1hr before it rings. Loved that little dismiss Alarm notification
The default analogue Clock Widget and analogue clock in the Clock App both have Huawei logo. Why ? The Brand name Huawei is etched on the front panel of the mobile , I would like a clean home screen with just Analogue Clock widget on it.

When setting a Timer from the Clock App you cannot just type in the time with a number pad ,instead you have to scroll through the numbers wheel to select the time for hrs, minutes and seconds.
Edit: Just install the Clock App by Google from play store. To get the material design feel and the 1 hr Alarm dismiss notification prior to Alarm.

EMUI is the user interface that comes on installed Honor and Huawei phones. EMUI features Huawei Home, phone manager, themes, media apps, and is heavily baked in to the entire system UI. While EMUI has a lot of great features to offer (Screen recording, gesture controls, camera app ect.) many people have serious complaints about it.
For a long time, EMUI has been considered one of the more negative aspects of getting an Honor or Huawei device. Over the years EMUI has evolved to be much better and now hosts a great selection of valuable features.

What do you guys think about this design?
I was messing around for a little bit and came up with this for weatherpanel, should I attempt to make it happen ?

What would you reckon instead ?
I like this look and would love to give this a try. Looking forward to seeing your developments on this skin.
would it be possible to use in as a plugin (Ultimate Launch)?

1) Instead of TMW (which I think means tomorrow's forecast), should be a link to the multi-day forecast that like the WP default
2) A link to detailed daily and extended forecasts e.g."Currently 100% with wind from the SW at 5 mph. 0% chance of precip. Sunset at 6, sunrise at 6.", that type of thing.
If that could be displayed in the window as an option, that would be great.
3) Cam1/Cam2 could be replaced by a link to 'graphics' since WP also does a great job with the regional weather maps in addition to the traffic cameral.
I like the visual. if you could incorporate some of the strengths of WP in the same display concept, I think that would be just great. Challenge will be to minimize the drill down that some themes today have before you get to the meaningful data.
Just my 2 cents....
Thanks
i think you're focusing a little bit too much on the visuals of the image box, personally, i think it is useful for weather images and cams, but not that practical to spend that much space for current weather images (sunny, rainy).
instead, it can be used for current weather details (wind, humidity, percip. percentage, feels like, last updated, etc...).
you can also change the "TMW" to "5D" or something similar
I tried to apply some of my suggestions to one of your screen shots, you can find it attached. i am not best known for my artistic talents as can tell , just general ideas and you can adopt whatever you like or ignore 'em all.
it doesn't seem that you were that serious about looking for comments on your design, it has been about 32 hours since your only comment on the topic... i could've used the 30 minutes i spent replying and making that modified screen on plenty of other things.

Calm down buddy. I've actually started making the theme for WP. I also have a real world job and family to deal with, I'm not some 24 hr XDA lurker. Know that your suggestions were taken on board, however I'm not looking to make the main screen more than the basic info as shown in the initial screenshot. The rest of the precipitation, humidity etc will be on a seperate panel, like in phatphingers.
Would you like a refund on your 30 minutes ?

Now, we are all familiar with the GO family. It has impressed us for many years, but not now. Though good in looks but this launcher is quiet embarrassing, the app drawer icon is small and on the top of the screen. It has many themes, many addons but still it dosen't fulfil the requirements.

Reserved. Still Reviewing The Rest Launchers
I would also suggest smart launcher , buzz launcher and nova launcher !!
I can make a review for these launchers if you like

I've been using apex for a while. Seems pretty good with a little more customization than stock.
Also i recomend tsf shell launcher.
Its really cool because it has features which no other launcher have. You can move freely(not in a grid) apps and folders, also widgets(resize freely them too). It does need much ram but thats not problem on our tab. We still have much free ram, even after using apps.
Only downside is the prize.
I'm using nova, smooth for my taby

[Feng5 rom review]nexus experience 10.4 for mot0 x 2014 review

I flashed nexus experience 10.4 on my moto x 2014 in september 12 . After using this rom as my daily driver for some days, I think I should write a review for those guys who want to flash this rom as daily driver. [emoji1]
1. Interface
Nexus experience is based on aosp ,but its interface is similar as cm13. Here is some screenshot:

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
There are some stuff like glass effects in lockscreen.
2. Special function
This ROM support ambient display and live display. You can change the RGB in color calibration to fix the yellow screen problem .
It also support moto gesture, like twist for quick capture and chop twice for flashlight.
You can change which app can start when the phone boot up in memory menu.
Theme engine is support cm theme pack,. It also can customize.
There is the one-click-clear button in recent app list.
You also can back to previous app by holding recent button and lock screen by double tapping navigation bar.

3. Performance
I think this ROM is smooth in mostly time. In balance mode(this ROM have three battery mode: performance, balance ,power save). The geekbench4 result is about 1000(single-core) and 2500(multi-core). Let's see some screenshots(based on balance mode):
Setting slides smoothly.
Google now slides a little bit laggy.
Play store doesn't slide smoothly.
Screenshots(based on performance mode):
Everything is more smoothly.
4. Battery life
Battery data log:
9/13
0:07(100%)-21:45(29%)
SOT(screen on time) 2h58m56s 556mah
Cell standby(LTE) 189mah
9/14
23:26(100%)-21:30(11%)
SOT 4:57:30 907mah
Cell standby 366mah
9/15
0:00(100%)-17:27(15%)
SOT 4:10:01 802mah
Cell standby 247mah
9/17
0:00(100%)-22:27(31%)
SOT 3:49:23 785mah
Cell standby 295mah
9/18
0:00(100%)-21:28(5%)
SOT 5:8:55 1090mah
Cell standby 303mah
I think battery life is much better than Miro's stock ROM. I just used ice box to freeze some apps that I seldom use. I don't use any battery save apps like greenify or prevent running.
5.Summary
I think this ROM is great. Battery life is great. The system is smoothly in most time. Many special functions are useful. But sometimes when you swipe to unlock your phone , you can feel laggy.
Maybe this is a little bug and it doesn't matter.
So, finally ,I think this ROM can be a daily driver.
It is stable now and without huge bug.
Sorry for my poor English .

OEM skin/software

Are you comfortable in your own skin? Is your phone comfortable in its skin? Rate this thread to express how you deem the skin on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Samsung has at least improved their "Samsung Experience" ever since the disaster (for me) that was the "TouchWiz Nature UX 3.5" on my Galaxy Note3. If you don't already know, I like the stock Android UI (of Android 4.4 through to 7.1, but 8.0 looks too white to me)
By that, I mean I can download a "stock Android" theme to cover up a portion of the ultra-white Samsung UX, however, it (unfortunately) does not skin the Android SystemUI "DeviceDefault" theme, which affects some apps, like Ted (text editor) and Gboard settings. I then use "Navbar Apps" to force the nav bar to be black, instead of Samsung's white.
However, some annoyances remain, primarily with Samsung's own emoji font, which is hard for me to decipher, and is very different from other fonts. I wished Samsung gave their users the option to use stock Android emoji.
Also, Samsung seems to only allow Monotype's paid fonts to be used as UI fonts, and they don't allow free fonts from sites like Dafont and Google Fonts. It could be circumvented in TouchWiz 7.0 (Android 6.x) and earlier, but not in Samsung Experiece 8.0 and later, so I wish they gave their users the option to use free fonts (by checking file signatures first).
Either that, or hopefully UI font changing and font management becomes an AOSP feature, possibly by forking lines of code from something open-source like KDE Plasma on desktop Linux (that has very good custom UI font in my opinion).
Yes and no.
I don't not like the Note 8 UI, but it's not exactly anything new or exciting.
Coming from an S6, this is my first "edge" phone and it felt way too similar to my S6. So, I downloaded nova, made full use of the edge panel and it just feels so much nicer.

Why did Samsung implement a theme engine, but make it almost impossible to access the tools to create your own themes?!?

Overall love

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Honor 8X, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the Honor 8X is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

best bang for buck!
Was first sure on getting the Huawei P20 lite, then the Nova 3i, then now this appeared!
It's amazing! My only hatred is with the EMUI itself.
Honor 8X the 6.5-inch Fullview Display
Emmmmmm I really appreciate this new feature.

love the design and value for money, hate the restrictive nature and bloatness of EMUI, overall score 7.5 out of 10, considering it is a late 2018 mid ranger.
Just received it this week following a discount on Amazon, it is great. It is absolutely mid-range (I have been playing with my friend iPhone XS max and obviously there is a big gap).
Design is beautiful (I have the blue one, looking very good) and screen is as well beautiful in size although I come from AMOLED and the difference is noticeable. But I bet I'll get used to it.
Battery is as promised, 1,5 day for my 2 first cycles with quite intensive usage (that was my 2 main criteria for this purchase - big screen and long lasting battery).
Everything else is smooth and fine, so far I do not understand very well all the criticism about the photocamera. It seems really ok to me, and I have not been playing around will all the settings available yet.
I don't like very much EMUI, but ok, it is fine as well, the delta with normal android is not that big.
One feature I will definitely miss from my good old Nexus 6 was the fast charging (80% in 30mn!) and the wireless charging (I had wireless chargers spread across home and office and that used to be very convenient, never had to plug it anymore). Here charging is a raw and slow process....
But hey, for 265€ !!! The delivery is quite amazing.
So to stay on topic, true love is there! I suspect it will not be a very long lasting true love (as it has been with my Nexus 6, after 4 years together) but let's enjoy a medium term relationship for that price tag
The Honor 8X is the kind of phone you might buy if you want one that looks new, with all the latest design cues, but don’t want to spend a huge amount of money. That the front is almost all screen is the Honor 8X’s star feature. Switch it on, in late 2018 at least, and it looks similar to an 800$ phone. According to me these three key features make this phone worth buy!
-All-screen front, glass back and metal frame
-Good 1080 x 2340 screen
-Mid-range CPU is biggest sign that this isn't a flagship
in full love with this phone
